You have the most graceful, delicate touch while cooking. You mix the ingredients without mashing it up, you form the patties without squeezing the mix, you turn the patties without flipping them around. You treat it like something you would really want eat, best cooking lesson I’ve ever seen. I’m going to make these today! BTW reusing grease is a lost skill when I grew up my mom kept a lard crock that was a collection of reusable cooking grease. Clean hands is a key part of safe cooking.👍

The bones of canned salmon are VERY soft, and are an EXCELLENT source of calcium! My mom made salmon croquettes throughout our childhood and told us to stop trying to pick those bones out! They're good for you! Of course, now I make salmon patties and croquettes from my leftover oven baked salmon. A 100% improvement over the canned version. No sense wasting any salmon from a previous dinner! Thanks for the memories of my mama. She, too, always fried hers in a cast iron skillet. So do I. Pssst....a tablespoon of bacon drippings added to the cooking oil will ALWAYS put it over the top.
Thanks Donna! My Mom passed 3 yrs ago, and I was looking for a simple recipe that would remind me how she used to make them which I loved. Watching your video I remembered and yours hit the nail on the head! I think my Mom stole your Mom's recipe! Well now you have another new subscriber! Looking forward to more of your recipes. John
My Mom is also gone but I used her Salmon recipe for over 40 years. I just happened to see Donna's and wanted to see if there is any similarities and believe it or not it was identical to my Mom's even from picking out the skin and removal of the bones. It was on point and the best Salmon recipe. I have passed it on to my Grandson Tim and I think his is even better. Kudos to DonnaL
My mom taught me to always wipe the top of a can off - all you need to do is look at the dirt on the wipe after you're done to see it was the right thing to do. Nice video, great recipe!
I recently lost my mother and this took me back to when she use to make these. It was breakfast with grits, biscuits and syrup for us. It was amazing. Thank you for reminding me of a childhood memory. Momma used a boiled potato as her binder and rolled them in seasoned flour, I am sure it all taste the same. I will have to try it in a sandwich.. Love this video!

I completely agree about the hand washing, taking out the bones and skin, and the cast iron skillet. My mama cooked these too, and like you, I don't care much for seafood, but I do love Salmon Patties. Thank you.
Those look sooo good! I'm glad you pointed out that they need to be cooked all the way through. I've watched two other videos on Salmon patties where the cooks said you only have to worry about getting them brown because the salmon is already cooked. The salmon might be cooked but all that raw egg mixture needs to cook through and through!

I’ve never made the Salmon Patties. But my step mom liked to make them. It was good! Yes! Morton’s is the way to go for me. Oooh! Those look so good! I love to see people eating what they cook! Take care of yourselves!
I hadn't thought of the days that my parents reused grease or oil in decades. They also used lard on a regular basis. I only like Tuna and Salmon patties in the seafood world. As a child, I did like Sardines and I always ate the bones. Don't think I knew that's what they were. Looking forward to trying your method.
Thank you for this recipe. I haven't cooked this in years. I like to use a small cooked mashed potato and egg to bind the salmon. Never thought about old bread...good tip!
I use soda crackers in my salmon patties with an egg to hold it together! My mom used crackers & so do i. I've never used anything else & they're so good. I make mine with crackers ! Then we eat them with mash potatoes and I make a sweet peas white sauce and put the sauce on potatoes and patties !! The next day we eat left overs on a grilled cheese sandwich !! So yummy !!
I just made some salmon patties about 2 weeks ago. I grew up eating it with rice and nice warm pillsbury biscuits. But trust to know, eating those salmon patties with just some nice warm butter biscuits fresh out of the oven “alone”, will still hit the spot! 😋.
Love me some salmon patties. I've made them both ways, bone-in-and-out. Delicious either way. Saltines, Ritz Crackers, flour, toasted white bread and of course your bread crumbs are good fillers. I also use bell pepper along with the onions. Which ever way hits your fancy is the right way. Makes my/your mouth water. Mucho Kudos for an excellent presentation and may God continue to bless!

It's a little difficult to tell, but the handle on your cast iron skillet suggests it's from the 1960s to 1970s. If you look on the bottom of the pan, there's probably a description of the size of the pan, such as 8 INCH SKILLET or 9 INCH SKILLET. It may either say MADE IN TAIWAN or MADE IN USA. Cast iron frying pans made during that time often looked like that.
Wow!!! I had to go look, and it does say TAIWAN!!!! My mom used this cast iron skillet when me and all my siblings were little, so I know she had it in the 1960s if not before. Thank you sooooo much for sharing this information with me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my cast iron skillets!!!!
Looking good. Reminds me of how my mother them back in the day. She used Onion as well, but I cannot remember if she used Bread Crumbs or Flour to bind them together, but they were Bomb. Thin and crispy. We usually had them for Breakfast with some Syrup and good old Homemade Biscuits. Thank u for sharing!
I love your cooking. I like to eat my salmon patties on a hamburger bun with tartar sauce tomatoes & lettuce. I also like them with buttery rice & biscuits. Both ways are delicious. Thanks for sharing. May The Creator of Grace continue to bless you forever more.

I just found this channel and I must say I'm already liking what I see, I fix a lot of food the way you do I love it... I also take the bones out before the rest of ingredients i use mustard, onion , black pepper , garlic powder and onion powder egg, bread crumbs , but I also use flour I don't know why but I like the way they cook up with it .. I never measure I just dump and mix , I know your suppose to but I don't.🤣😂🤣. yes I agree wash your nasty hands I wash mine before touching something else every time I'm cooking ..

Absolutely!!! Errrrrrrr time!!!😁😋
Love me some salmon patties.
Thank you! Made salmon croquettes for the first time! We ate them inside of buns as sandwiches. Delish! Thank you!❤
Like the bread crumb idea, it thickens the patties and holds together!
Heyyyyyy there Faye! Yes!!!! It definitely helps hold it together along with the eggs. Thanks for watching!
Mam your demonstration and explaining of this dish is a Breath of Fresh Air Thank You and May God Keep Blessing Your Journey

I Love Salmon My Great GrandMother Cook With Grits Thank You I'm Learning how to Cook Salmon some people don't no how to cook salmon!! Thank You!!!
Thank you so much Hattie!!!🥰💕
