I sold my 2011 HSE LUX with 92,000 miles on it. We were spot on with scheduled maintenance and it was as reliable as any Honda product I’ve owned. 19-20mpg on the Highway, 17-18 city. Insane snow capability, the split heavy duty tailgate, mosquito nets in the doors and sunroof, significant fording capability, etc. I wish we still had it.
Thanks, you just convinced me to quit my job and live in my LR 4. Mine has the highest Trim Package. LR 4 LUXURY. It has the Heated Steering Wheel, Heated Seats, and the Refrigerated Center Console. Land Rover sells a Solar Power system to keep the Battery Charged, and the Cold ones cold.
About the Big F Bottle, you can remove the rubber cushion in the cup holder to fit a bigger bottle. I have a 2016 and it's just snapping in and easy to remove. Cheers!
I've always liked how the Discovery/LR4 looked (before it got smooth and anonymous). The boxy look with stepped roof and asymmetric tailgate is iconic. They're very capable and comfortable. It's a shame the British still haven't figured out how to put a car together properly. It's a labor of love and money to keep this going. On a lot of Land Rover products you can trick the air suspension into sitting higher by default for an inexpensive "lift". I like that clock. It looks like a field watch dial. I guess Land Rover intended for the Defender to be the Discovery's replacement. If Land Rover had kept this in production it would still look fine today. The current Discovery looks like a generic entry-level Range Rover.
The Engine is good, it's just the Timing Chain Guide that has a manufacturer defect. The Dealer will upgrade the Timing Chain system as part of a Out of court settlement with Land Rover.
Owned a 2012 LR4. The problem is that the timing chain guides are made of plastic which starts to warp around 100k-120k miles. If you bring it to a dealership it’s almost 10k to have it fixed. There’s a guy in RI who fixes it and replaces it with a metal part for ~5k
My neighbour had a brand new LR sport sold it back after 3 months last year, it broke down all the time and lost patience. Shame as it looked nice but I wouldn’t entertain one. Like the guy says big wallet no problems is what it is
I’m always shocked at the reviews given to the third row. I’m 6’2” and I’m completely comfortable back there!! Compare it to Lexus 3 row vehicle. I literally can’t sit in third row. The third row 4runner I also can’t fit. Literally can’t fit! The LR4/3 has sooooo much room!
I noticed that you have changed some stuff in the delivery of your review, and it became better now... You altered the delivery of some sentences, and they now feel much less pre-programmed... Much much better... Kudos... Cool LR4... What was that whistling sound coming from the car at the end monologue? Bad weather insulation?
The design is, beside the newer generations of the XC Volvos, the best ever rolled out! No german SUV would ever come close to the beauty just because they are too traditional (BMW) or too over the top (Audi).
Given its a DS3 with a rebadge. It's actually from 2004. Land rover owners love Thier cars even though they are far less reliable even if you service it more frequently. Ie the timing chains.
@@dougcoleburn1579 primarily because the 4.4l v8 is a super bullet proof engine with no real weak points. Lr4s suffer from some pretty major engine faults over time. Lr3 is also better made. The lr4 was a mere facelift and was really designed to cut costs where as the lr3 was the culmination of Land Rover, BMW, and later Ford trying to make the best suv ever and it really shows in the build quality. Imo the lr3 seats are also much more comfortable. The only feature I’d like to have from the lr4 is the heated steering wheel.
Why did they rename the Discovery for the US market? LR4 doesn’t sound appealing but Discovery name immediately brings a picture of Land Rover into my head.
Its because in the US, the discovery 1 and 2 were known to be extremely unreliable. Land Rover rebranded the Discovery 3 as the LR3, which actually was/is a fairly reliable vehicle. The LR4 followed, and they changed back to Discovery with the Discovery 5 (which would have been LR5). In short, the name change was purely to mitigate the reputation a discovery came with in the US: unreliable.
Your videos really are informative and entertaining but I wish you would show more of the cars you review. For example you sit in the back seat and describe the features in the back but don't show them on video. Another example is not showing features of the car like folding down the second row, and in this particular video not bothering to fold up the 3rd row and maybe sitting back there to show us how much space there is.

5:18, those inserts in the cup holder are removable to be able to fit larger bottles, it looks like it would’ve passed if you had removed the inserts

I love the bodystyle of the LR4. Timeless. Just needs a better engine.

@@davidhall3747wait what? They do it for free?
The 5l engine is quite good actually. Chain issue won;t bother if you change the oil on time (5-8k mi)
That’s not true.

My favorite rover 😍

The design and looks have aged really well. Everything else, uh…
Getting one of these soon and doing a Duramax swap and replacing stock air suspension system with an aftermarket compressor and heavy duty air bags.
You will be creating a magical machine.
I do like these, in spite of the reliability
It's a good looking and capable truck. I always liked the Discovery/LR4 before it got blobby and generic but I'd never own one.

5L V8 thats crazy!
I love the body style of those.
It held together long enough to complete the review???
You forgot to mention it’s a high performance engine and need to fill up the fuel with 91 or Higher octane gas.
The LR3 is the correct version.
Agree(d). ✔️
Please explain why the LR3 over the LR4

These are still called discoveries overseas
Has anyone tried putting an LS motor?

Not yet! Although it has been filmed!
Seeing this dissected made me realize how the Jeep Commander really copied these looks!
