    You did a fabulous job of covering all the issues. I would also comment that almost all of what you presented applies to the 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport; same chassis, same tranny & drive chain. I have 3, one being a seized engine donor truck. A donor truck, like you, has saved me thousands.

      Thank you for your comment. I had a feeling it would apply, but don't have specific experience. Although I've been recently tempted to pick up a Range Rover as I'm seeing quite a few of them in need of repairs. Definitely glad I picked up the parts vehicle.

      Great video. I definitely think you need to pay attention to what you need/want in order to get the right one. There are so many options. I admit they do look sharp and seem to be advanced for their age. Thanks

    That was a very good summary of typical issues!! Thanks! I'm not a mechanics but I managed to avoid the dealer/garage on my 2016 LR4 for the 2 years of ownership. I did PCV membrane, front break/rotors, Oxygen sensor, Front lower suspension arm and coolant pipes/pump. I used the cheap aluminium replacement pipes and used very high heat o-rings. You were wondering about those so I wanted to say I recommend them. They are cast aluminium and the ends are machined smooth and well shaped. I have acid-cleaned them before putting them on just in case. I think having a plastic pipe sticking out of an aluminium engine is just asking for trouble and the aluminium alternative put my mind to rest! Oh yeah, I changed the supercharger coupler for a solid plastic one as the spring in the OE was getting loose but that SCV6 engine is really cool and no issue. More power and less gas is win-win. On another note, I fully agree with you on the air suspension. It's just the best thing on earth! Having both street and off-road performance is another win-win and the system is pretty reliable. I do take it off-road and it is amazing! Keep up the good Land Rover content and Cheers from Canada!!

      Thanks for the great feedback on the aluminum rear cross over pipe! I've been keeping an eye out for a good deal on the 3.0 SC V6. Thanks for watching & the comment.

    Excellent video! I have one with same issue not shifting out of 3rd. Replaced all solenoids and the valves on the Mechatronic. That’s didn’t fix it. My next step was to open up the transmission and see what’s going on in there.

    Very very thoughtful and thorough. I just bought my wife a 2011 lr4 hse lux with 100146 miles bronze out and tan inside. Paid $8500. The guy had paid about $7000 dollars in parts and labor at the land rover dealer for suspension and brakes and other stuff except the timing chain. I purchased $1600 in parts and tools hopefully I'll have piece of mind for a good while. Then again it's a landrover.

      Just remember to check the coolant level at least once a week. As soon as you have to add coolant, find the leak or start planning to do the coolant cross over pipe. Remember you’ll most likely get the low coolant warning first. I tell my wife as soon as she gets that warning to safely find a place to pull over and call me. If you wait until the temperature gauge tells you over heated, it’s probably too late. Otherwise it’s a great driving vehicle that is fun to drive. Also, 5k mile oil changes with good quality oil and filter.

      @@mountainviewsgarage thanks for the tip. I bought the rear cross pipe made from aluminum. Yes chinese but after I deem it worthy it's going in. I have a lathe, a diy milling machine, a cnc router I can cut aluminum brass and steel all be it very slowly. I bought two extra keys knock offs ($50) but they work. I hope to get rid of all the plastic crap and switch it for aluminum. Also swapping rubber hoses for silicone hoses. Looking into micro controllers like the arduino platform to swap out modules when they go bad. That is probably wishful thinking but it's possible. I use one to run my cnc machine. Thanks again for what you do.

      Nice! Sounds like you have a good plan. I've purchased several knock off key fobs and they've been working just fine for us. Let me know what you think of that metal rear cross over, I plan to try it on my next project. I work for a company that puts instrumentation/sensors and computers on drilling rigs.

      @@mountainviewsgaragejust curious what you think a good deal is? I’m shopping around and 2016s LR4 with under 100k miles are at or just below $20k.

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  9 днів тому

      @ Well that’s a tough question to answer and everyone’s idea will be different. But for me, I typically only buy vehicles that already have issues. So I budget for a replacement engine and other basic maintenance items. I do all my own work. $20k would be high in my mind for a LR4 unless they have detailed records that don’t include extended oil changes. If it has had extended oil changes it’s just a matter of time for major repairs.

    Great video! I am an original owner of a 2013 HSE in Baltic Blue. I have 112,000 miles and still love it. No major issues to this point but do have some type of coolant leak and as you mentioned no puddles or obvious smell in the vent system and had it pressure tested but the shop did not see the point of loss including at the plastic cross over. I have been keeping up with the maintenance via a local shop. Should I have the timing chain changed as a preventive measure or just keep on keeping on? Thanks!

    • @mountainviewsgarage

      The 2013 model year supposedly had updated guides. If you’re the original owner and have maintained good oil changes, keep on enjoying it. Use good oil and filters, you should be good to go. Thanks for watching and the comment!

    I love thr LR4 style, but put off buy reliability. Would you consider swapping in an LS3 engine. Would the chevy engine give better performance and reliability?

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  Місяць тому +1

      I love the LS3 and the reliability of a pushrod engine, but I don't think I'd swap one into an LR4 with the 5.0. The biggest reason would be to get all of the computers to talk so that you can keep the traction control and other features. If maintained properly I think the 5.0 can be a reliable engine, I'm curious to see how many miles we can accumulate on one of these as a test study. My daughters just passed 200k miles, which is more than double the miles that our previous Triton 5.4 V8 had on it before needing timing work.

      I do agree, the IID GAP Tool is really useful and small enough to keep in the glove box. It will get you out of bad situations. Electric parking break got stuck during a family vacation and I was able to unjam it with the GAP. Also made 2 additional key FOBs for free, I think it paid itself right there!
