What makes Mr. Maude's lessons great is that he explain the "Why" part well, not just a set of instruction and telling people "if you do that, it will work". Thanks!
Hey Danny. This REALLY worked for me today! I had several greenside shots that were deep in the grass. Your instruction proved amazingly accurate. The key was swinging with "commitment". When I did, each lob shot landed within a reasonable distance to the hole. Thank you!
I’ve applied this technique and I’ve slid the club under the ball. I’ve even seen pga tour pros making the same mistake. Later on, I understood that it was because I used a lob wedge and added loft to it. I’ve been nailing it ever since. Good vid, Danny.
Great lesson..this was exactly what my pro covered today. By watching your video many times has given me a great visual on what my shot should look like😊 Thanks again.
Thanks Danny …very clear and helpful for a common situation - unlike other coaching which assumes a perfect lie, this is reality especially in the winter!
Danny, I keep repeating every time I play this shot " hit behind the ball and COMMIT to the shot " I love it and it works !!😍🤓 Golfers should reviewed time to time during this period of the year in Europe. 🌧☔️ merciiii
Can only say thank you, went out yesterday to practice this, it worked. It took a few tries, but it worked, now know exactly how to handle these types of lies.
I think the biggest problem the average golfer has on these short shots is just how much you need to swing the club to get the ball to move a relatively short distance. It just feels like you're going to hit it miles and that anxiety strikes about a millisecond into the down swing and the instinct is to put the brakes on. Hey presto you duff it! Practice and commitment along with sound technique such as this are keys. Good video Danny!
Danny your videos are GAMECHANGERS! Two years ago I could not break 110...lost almost a dozen balls every game. I have been watching your videos and practicing (as much as I can...I probably play once or twice a month...golf is EXPENSIVE) and I broke 90 last weekend using your tips. Thowing the clubhead towards the ground and getting that feel changed everything. Now...let's work on breaking 80! I need a video on chipping when the ball is higher than the pin... how do you make that shot without the ball rolling 20 yards pass the hole?!?! I know there is an antigravity chip shot somewhere in your game.
One of the shots I really struggle with. I often blade the ball and run it over the green. Now I know why and more importantly, how to correct it. Another great job of explaining what’s going on with my game. You really get a hacker’s faults.
Hi Danny, I've been trying out this open stance shot in the horse field at the back of my house today, you can imagine how long the grass is its long, and every one is popping up out of the grass & flying through the air, thanks Danny & Happy New year to you & your family 🖒
Thank you for this Danny! A terrific option I’ll try from these fluffy pies. A polite request if I may, the chip around the green I struggle with the most is the bare lie I encounter seemingly every round at least once! A video on this would be really helpful as I’m always caught between 2-3 potential shots in my mind and then end up chunking it. Cheers
Thank you for sharing. I was just today practicing this shot but like you said ended up with a fluff shot of 4 feet in front or a Screamer across to the Green. Need to practice this one because I notice when I play a round of golf that this shot always comes into play….big challenge. The Green you are playing seems awfully high…another challenge.
@@DanielMaude I practiced the Rough Pitch shot this morning and found the swing method does work. I found out there really needs to be a full-swing and commitment to the stroke. No “chickens” allowed. It was fun and hope to implement on the GC tomorrow. My Sand Wedge with a 10 Bounce worked better than the 60* Thank you for helping me to improve.
I've been working on this particular chip! Here's what I did. I bought a small hula hoop from the local Dollar Store. I am lucky to have a very large back yard area. So, I place the hoop on the ground, then set some balls about 15 to 20 yards away in the grass, which is something like a rough. Now I practice your tips and aim for as close to the hoop as I can get it. The idea is to hit inside the hoop, of course, and the all will bounce and run a bit. Sure make it easy, rather than running to the coarse, and it givs me the practice I need!! Thanks for the brilliant tips!!
Hi Danny! Thanks for this fantastic video! Although I m new to golf, this trick of yours works like a charm! I have a question about which club you used in this video? If you don't mind, it would be really helpful for us the beginners if you could provide this information at the description of your videos. MANY THANKS!!!
Danny, since this is the start of golf season in 'my part of Canada I am very lucky to have someone who can answer quite a few of my questions. First of all thank you for your teachings, quick responses and in-depth answers, very informative.I have started hitting balls at the range using your guidance, I hit the ball sometimes my best, sometimes below average and sometimes not worth mentioning. My question is how do I establish permanent ball position to develop consistent ball striking? This may be a difficult question to answer without seeing me swing, but hopefully you can give me some guidance.....thank you
Another great video Danny. Thank you. Do you have one or two tips how you teach your arms to consistently strike the ball first or the ground first at where you want to?. Is this simple a matter of practice and more practice, assuming correct set up? The question assumes there is no problem with the set up.. Is it the watching the spot where you want to hit at all times during the swing? Or would you say.. if one sets up correctly with the correct body Mechanic (ie.back swing, down swing and release) then the club head should make the correct contact where you want to.. Thanks for your comments
I love doing this shot! The thing you have to do is commit to a hard swing down under the ball ,to get it shooting straight up. I practice this shot behind a tall bush in my yard. I place the ball maybe 5 ft away from it. Open the blade, and stance, and give a full swing right down under the ball, and it shoots straight up and over the tree easily. Its scary at first, but you have to commit to it. Ive played with my buddies on the course and if I get an errant shot behind a tree , they think Im screwed. But, when it shoots high over it , and lands softly, their jaws drop and call me a lucky SOB! LOL. Its really fun, and really not hard to do. Its basically what Phil Michelson does when you see that big swing go a short distance.
I have been using “toe down” chipping for this kind of shot with mixed results, most often hitting a shot that goes too far left. Sometimes too much roll. I have used your technique when in deep rough and needing to carry a bunker. Problem with that has been rolling off back of green as ball doesn’t stop softly enough.
As always good lesson. Tried it and works perfectly. I have a problem when I’m 2 to 3 feet off the green in thick rough. I find that I’m having trouble committing to that shot. Could you do a lesson on that particular lie? Thanks
Hi Danny, great video. Thank you. I blade much more than fat shots , I guess I flip my right hand and not I hang back. Could this be one of the reasons? Thank you.
Is this the same as a parachute shot and is it the same mechanics as bunker shot? Love your instruction, easy to understand. Now i need to practice it.
Excellent as always thanks Danny. I must say however that the shot that really spooks me is from a similar position but where the ball is lying on a bare patch in the grass or a bare divot. The fear of thinning these is horrible! Do you have a video on this?
@@DanielMaude hey Danny love your video's. I have a question for you. Would you play this same type of shot from Bermuda grass? Or would you approach it differently? I play alot on Bermuda grass and that is some tough rough you get out of. It really stops your Club and grabs it big time. Just wondering if you would love it or pitch it the same way using the same technique? Anyway love your videos. Just curious because all the other techniques you teach are really good. Thanks.
Great video. This shot is common in Pittsburgh. Since this is a hilly city. how about a video for extreme uphill, downhill, sidehill shots. Theoretically, I know how to play these shots but I am not consistent.

Great video. You said similar to a green side bunker shot. That comment made me think of your one bunker video where you said to slice the crust off the top of the bread. Is this shot like that?
Hey Danny, obviously with a bunker shot the ball is sat 'on the ground', with this type of shot I find part of the difficulty is deciding how far OFF the ground the ball is being held by the grass, too high and you could end up missing the ball completely!
Absolutely, if the ball is lying above the ground a lot keep your weight evenly balanced across both feet and instead of allowing the head to striking down behind the ball still hit behind the ball but make the impact more shallow
Hi Danny. Thanks for ur helpful clips. But with this case in rought, sometimes I have a trouble with thick grass. when I strike 1 inch behind the ball as ur instruction, the grass's made my club open when inpact the ball. So I miss the line and the distance. How to solve it? Thank you!
Hey Danny. Nice Video and great expalined as every time from you :-). My Question is, what would you to when your Ball where 2-3 Yards closer to the green and not in this deeper grass where it is easyer to came under the ball. Thanks Brian, on fluffy lies you need a shallow angle of attack. Don't hit down on the ball. The club head needs to slide almost level with the grass not down into like you would do if it was buried
Thanks David, not a conscious effort no as this will restrict your chest from turning to face the target and could get the hands taking over too much. Instead keep your eye on where you would like to strike and allow your eyes to follow the flow of the swing

Danny Maude Thanks Danny. I find your videos very helpful especially when you recap/summarise towards the end. I haven't yet tried the shots on the course but from my back garden I'm hitting my plastic balls better than ever.
Make sure your alignment is good and then try this simple drill to learn a new feel. Set up two balls inline with one another. one above and one below as you look at them. Address the top ball and then swing and hit the bottom one, it will cure it instantly and give you the feel you need with practice to cure it long term
Excellent video again Danny. Many thanks. I notice you don't mention breaking the wrists, but rather encourage a full swing, and aim to use the bounce of the club and make impact about 1" before the ball and then follow through fully. Would you ever use a shorter swing and break the wrists, thus creating a steeper attack at impact to get the same results with the full swing, (as I've seen in other videos), or is this just choice on your part? As Mark Twain said "There's more than one way to skin a cat" Thanks for considering my question and look forward to receiving your thoughts if you can spare the time. Cheers
I play at my local country club in central Texas where we have thick Bermuda grass around the greens. It takes strength to cut through this stuff and get the ball to stop. I might move to a 60 degree or even a 65 degree wedge.
Greetings Danny, i am probably one of the worst golfers on the planet but i have a Question. You refer to this shot as a chip shot however it looks like the back swing has some hinge on the wrist and goes back further than a chip shot. Is this really a pitch shot ? Thanks.
Once again the way you describe the swing action in such simple terms makes watching your videos a joy. Thank you Danny.

Steven Todes 60 degree would work just fine for this shot
what about the left right leg weight distribution?
favour front foot when you want to attack the ground more steeply and evenly for standard strike

THANK YOU MATE! THIS FLOP-TYPE SHOT USE A FAVORITE OF MINE AND REALLY GOOD 4 ME - WHEN I WAS A LOT YOUNGER!. THEN, FOR SOME REASON, I LOST THE TECHNIQUE THAT YOU HAVE HAS BEEN EXPLAINING HERE...NOW I AM READY TO TACKLE IT AGAIN...CHEERS FROM NEW ZEALAND.👍😊⛳⛳⛳
Thanks for the comment Paul, more loft is better, also make sure the bounce is high too
Sensai speaks, I listen.
I enjoy your videos. Always really well explained. I would like to know which clubs you use...sand wedge, lob wedge, gap wedge for some of the trickier shots you do. Thanks!
Hi Jackie, thank you for your feedback. The more I want the ball to stop when it lands the more loft I use...hope this helps
Great vids. I watched your bunker shots video the other day. It looks like the principle is the same is that correct?
SileTa Mus exactly the same for this shot 👍
Danny Maude Thanks Danny. I find your videos very helpful especially when you recap/summarise towards the end. I haven't yet tried the shots on the course but from my back garden I'm hitting my plastic balls better than ever.
Hello
Danny can you tell me why i

Help me
Make sure your alignment is good and then try this simple drill to learn a new feel. Set up two balls inline with one another. one above and one below as you look at them. Address the top ball and then swing and hit the bottom one, it will cure it instantly and give you the feel you need with practice to cure it long term
Hello
Thank you
I am going try it
Yemen Dabak pleasure
What loft/bounce do you recommend for this shot? Hoe do you control distance?
Soft grass like this I like to use a high bounce like 12 degrees
How about chip shots on the side of that green. Please!
As Mark Twain said "There's more than one way to skin a cat"
Thanks for considering my question and look forward to receiving your thoughts if you can spare the time.
Cheers
Would it not better to play a pitch shot?
yes if you wanted the ball to travel further but in this situation we want the ball to go up quickly and stop quickly
Danny Maude l see; thxs
What is the loft? 52 or 56 degree?
Rene Wojcik 55 here Rene
I play at my local country club in central Texas where we have thick Bermuda grass around the greens. It takes strength to cut through this stuff and get the ball to stop. I might move to a 60 degree or even a 65 degree wedge.
Rene Wojcik that sounds like a good move
Greetings Danny, i am probably one of the worst golfers on the planet but i have a Question. You refer to this shot as a chip shot however it looks like the back swing has some hinge on the wrist and goes back further than a chip shot. Is this really a pitch shot ? Thanks.
what if its a tight lie?
One with very little grass
@@DanielMaude is it possible on those tight dirt lies
