Danny, absolute BEST chipping advice I have ever gotten came from YOU. And it is this: "keep the handle quiet- it stays right in front of you." Wow. Using this tip, I am hitting high, soft consistent chips. I had always wondered "how do they do hit those beautiful straight high shots?!?!" Now I know! Thank you Danny! No dragging the handle! Minimize its movement! Perfect.
When I get frustrated and dont feel like practicing anymore I can just come here and watch a Danny Maude video and all my excitement and energy comes right back. Its fantastic!
just tried that on the back lawn. you are brilliant.... works on the lawn ..can't wait to try it on the course your instruction is so uncomplicated and easy to follow the best
This method is brilliant. I watched your video a couple of times & tried it out at the chipping green. It's so basic and that is the best thing about it. No nonsense. I showed my brother this morning before our round who is useless around the greens, by the end of the round he couldn't believe how good he was chipping with little practice. 👍👍👍
This simple technique wsa transformative for me. Having just started playing again after an 8yr hiatus, my chipping has been woeful, lots of duffs and thins. Having watched this video, applying it on the course, I only hit 1 poor chip which was just a result of not hitting it hard enough. Of course, I was sometimes long due to not choosing the right loft (club) to use but this will improve through practice. However, I can say it saved me shots and it made the round much more enjoyable, rather than being frustrated around the greens. Thanks Danny for this and other videos, which I am now starting to watch as a recent subscriber.
My Pro showed me this technique but without the same clarity. Now I know to use it only when the circumstances are appropriate - so thank you. It certainly makes the contact purer on shortish chips. Good video.
Thanks Danny, I followed these instructions over the weekend and it improved my short game instantly. I will definitely recommend this video to all my pals. Cheers.
Hello Danny I was standing on a putting green frustrated out of my mind because I cannot hit a short chip to save my life and I golf a lot and I love the game I decided just to google how to chip in your video came up so I tried it and it worked thank you so much you saved my game
Great lesson. I use this technique combined with holding the club with my putting grip which really encourages the back and forth motion like a putt. I also use a specially designed “chipper” which is 38 degrees and the length of a putter.
Just what I wanted great instruction. As I have just joined you I have gone back over a lot of your videos and boy has it helped please keep up the good work. Regards Peter NZ
Danny, great tip for the short chips. For some reason on occasion I have been toeing my chips and would love to learn a remedy for this issue as the practice possibly permeates other parts of my game. Can you advise the forum on this or point me to a video which may assist with a remedy. Many thanks.
This is the only chip shot type that I have ever had any success with around the greens. It, along with a couple of other golf tips from my pro, has taken me from a 20 handicap to a consistent 13 in about two months. I shot 46 front and 38 back, on Saturday, and it really felt great to know that I can shoot lower scores again. My average over this year has been 92, but in the last month, it has been closer to 84. If I could greatly improve on the short game, bunker play, and wiser shot choices, I think I would definitely be near the single digits....first time ever, and I'm 65.
castlecg, it’s simple isn’t it...with some practice you can adapt it slightly to improve your longer pitching too. I will release a video on this shortly
I generally putt with an iron and change loft depending on how much fringe I have to clear to the green but this idea of using the toe is interesting. Can't wait to try it. BTW great to find out you are local to me hope to get some lessons with you soon☺
Danny, do you have a video that shows various shots around the green, and which clubs and techniques to use when? When to pitch? When to chip? When to use an 8-iron/putting motion? I like it when you also discuss what you're thinking about, and how your eyes are aligning.
Hi Danny will give it a go as my chipping is a weak part of my game. I played with a guy yesterday who chips with a reverse grip and swears by it. Gave it a try last night felt weird but the loft was there plus the balls flew straight. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this?
Paul Lucas, reverse overlap is a great exercise to do. I use it a lot to help golfers remain more solid through impact. Spend keep it and use it on the course some just use it as a drill. Just experiment and see what works for you
Hi Danny. When using the chip putt method, where on the club face are you striking the ball since the toe of the club is the only part of the club interacting with the turf?
Sounds like a workable idea. I will try tomorrow :).... As contact is made, is that contact spot at the bottom of the arc or is the bottom of the arc just after the ball? ie. Is there any downwards blow to the ball as the face makes contact? Does keeping your wt. partly on the left leg, promote a downwards blow to the ball?
Hi Danny, There was a video on a one hand chip shot that you were showing, i cant seem to find that video. Can you tell me which one it is ? Thanks Mate.
Hi Danny. I think about buying some PM Mack Daddy or PM Mack Daddy Grind Wedges. Will this what you show here also work with them? I ask, because the PM Grind have a much bigger percussion plattform... Will this caue to problems with this technic?
I really like how you explain things. I was wondering, could you make a video about why amateurs always over swing the golf club. Professionals usually dont over swing but most amateurs do.
Do have a video on how to hit a 3 wood in the fairway and how to hit from the rough at a distance of 150-160 from the green . l am a senior 125 lbs 5'1 high handicapper.? Thank you. Also what club would you advise me to use.
Gaudencio Obial I will create a video for you. When coming from the rough a lot will depend on the lie. However during many of my on course sessions I often see my clients taking a club that doesn't have enough loft attempting to get it as close to the green as possible. Instead take something like a 9 or even a PW and get it back in play. This may even mean hitting out at almost 45 degrees. Then get it on the green with your next shot. Technically it will also help if you lean the shaft towards the target at address and hit down quite steeply towards the ball. Hope this helps
I'm about the same height as you, a senior golfer, and I generally use a 7 or a 9 to cut through the grass and get out of the rough from a longer distance, plus I try to get the ball a bit back in my stance so the club hits it on the down swing. You can always experiment which club is best for you. It's all trial and error. Sometimes I find it best just to hit side ways onto the fairway and then have a good shot up to the green. Our rough is challenging, shall we say. The 3 wood I find a bit more difficult, so I often I use a 5 wood and find that easier to hit, it goes a good distance and I have more confidence in it..
Danny I used to be a great chipper and putter , Then covid hit ,and I have struggled with both and have really become scared and and now when I do hit it then its not far enough. what I used to do is think batsman , yes how he stood and the bat in the crease while awaiting delivery of the ball it worked for me then but not now , off 16 h/c on a par five I hit a lovley drive followed by a better 3w then its WHAT DO I HIT PW, 52, 55,SW , 8 IRON INSTEAD OF A WEDGE ?? paul P.S. I will try this ta
Hi Danny ive just sent you a message but wondered if you can help me . PUTTING ON VIDEOS IS ALL ON FLAT LAND. Now the course I'm a member of does not have a flat green anywhere whether putting green or on the course . They are all Mackenzie greens and I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE PIN IS ON THE TOP LEVEL I'M ON CENTRE LEVEL BUT LEFT OF PIN WHAT DIRECTION IS THE BALL GOING TO GO UPHILL, ? DO I START IT RIGHT ACROSS THE SLOPE SO IT GOES LEFT ON PIN LEVEL.? AND OTHER ONE IS RED FLAGS DOWN CENTRE OF A FAIRWAY WHAT IS THE PURPOSE AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN. ? I SAW THESE ON A VIDEO MARK CROSSLAND PLAYING IN IRELAND WITH A RYDER CUP FORMAT BUT JUST 4 PLAYERS. PAUL
Red flags mean pin front of green, yellow middle white back. With regards Mackenzie greens simply put on them and learn to see what happens. The green will tell you immediately 👊🏻
Chief I like the chipping and pitching drills but you Don't indicate which clubs are being used.Would knowing what club is being used make a difference? Thanks

Hi Danny, just watched this about a month ago and using the technique my short chipping has improved from 50% duffing to 90% making the shot. Thanks!
Amazing, thanks Joe

chris mostert this is great for those little chip shots
very simple, effective and less likely to result in chunked and bladed chips. I use putting grip which seems to help. Great video Danny!
Simple and effective this one, glad you like it
Hi Danny found this chipping technique and putting techniques very helpful my close game has improved heaps still room for improvement 😊👍

Just tried the technique this evening with immediate results around the green. Thanks Danny
Peter Oldfield, thanks Peter, it’s really easy for those chips on the edge of the green
Good teaching Danny, well done.
Thanks M B, if you get any questions just ask
Excellent as usual. Thank you.

@@DanielMaude Thanks Danny! Have always been a good putter. I played Putt-Putt as and Amateur and Pro for three years.
Hi Danny - with the simplified vertical chip method, which club would you recommend? Love your videos, helped me enormously!!! Thanks!
You could use any really, just experiment
Brilliant. It works immediately. Many thanks!
castlecg, it’s simple isn’t it...with some practice you can adapt it slightly to improve your longer pitching too. I will release a video on this shortly
Used this method Sunday ,piching wedge to 7 iron .No shanks which was a surprise being the closeness of the ball to my feet. Thanks for tip.
Robert Fitzgerald this one is great for those little ones

Simon Templar, thanks Simon, yes I learned this one from an old coach of mine...it’s great on difficult rough lies near the green
Danny, do you have a video that shows various shots around the green, and which clubs and techniques to use when? When to pitch? When to chip? When to use an 8-iron/putting motion? I like it when you also discuss what you're thinking about, and how your eyes are aligning.
Thanks a lot about the chiping tecnique. Success for you Danny. Walter Jose De Martis Suares.
walter De Martis, great for the small chips and poor lies in the rough next to a green
Hi Danny will give it a go as my chipping is a weak part of my game. I played with a guy yesterday who chips with a reverse grip and swears by it. Gave it a try last night felt weird but the loft was there plus the balls flew straight. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this?

Off the toe

Franck9476 absolutely, it's very much like putting

I really like how you explain things. I was wondering, could you make a video about why amateurs always over swing the golf club. Professionals usually dont over swing but most amateurs do.

Almost straight, but it is real a arc path.
Not straight path.
KALIA988 absolutely, there will always be some arc to the golf swing
Great tip but why wouldn't you be chipping onto a green?
Good question, all the greens were taken
This is really a putting stroke, no? It’s a chip-putt, thanks for sharing.
Kind of yes
Thx Danny! I birdied my fist two holes using this technique...
Fiveshark 593053 brilliant, thanks for sharing
Tried this today. Didn't work for myself. Just feels weird leaving the toe on ground.
I can appreciate that Joe, if you could persist with it my students love it
But it is scalable if you use a 7 iron or an 8 iron instead of a wedge.
Give it a try a let me know, I have Players successfully using it with other irons
Google how to take a divot
