    I can't thank you enough for this piece of advice. I have always struggled with these shots. I played 9 holes today and had 3 shots like this next to greens. All three stopped within 3 feet of the hole, with 1 almost dropping in!! Cheers!!

    The golf club is a tool, same as the ones in the shed. Loved this video. The V versus the U striking angle was the key for me. Thank you!

    Chris, I had to search through all of your chipping videos to find this one, and I am so glad that I did. your first 2 demonstrations looked like all of my shots. Ever since I found this video I have been able to stay on the green on my 3rd or 4th shot and have taken quite a few strokes off. Thanks

    great video...I knew to come in at a steeper angle to avoid the grass behind the ball but did not consider opening the face for more height on the ball...thanks for the great tip :)

    Great stuff! I played a round yesterday and had a Tin Cup moment where I tried to chip/pitch out of the rough right next to a great but the green has a wicked up slope adjacent to the thick rough. 3 times on a row I chipped/pitched it out of the rough onto the wicked slope where the ball proceeded to roll right back down into location in the same green-side rough. So my 4th attempt I hit it too hard and it blew across the entire green and into the rough on the other the other side. Ended up taking a 10 on a Par 5 that I had reached in 2 and hoped for a birdie. Wish I had watched the video before that hole. Great tips!

    It's absolutely extraordinary how much good information you cram into these videos; I just watched Hank Haney's video on the same subject matter he gets a one out of 10 and you blew him out of the water Club shaft neutral at address the energy has to go somewhere open Club face, steeper angle of attack absolutely great stuff can't wait to try it.

    another excellent video Chris, by far the best youtube coach, you explain everything in a fact based way without sensationalising it. none of this hit the ball 300 yards BS which most amateurs won't ever do. can you please do a video on launch angles of pitch shots. i.e i heard someone saying that whether you us a 60deg or 50 deg club you should look for the same launch angle (plus or minis 5deg) on chip to control distance but to me this seems counter intuitive surely the launch should change to control distance. given the same club head speed. thanks for the effort you put into your videos we love them

    All of the setup & v-shape swing points shows just how much information is shared beyond the title of your videos and how extensive the thought process behind each golf shot for the best results.. always tricky with grass to determine the spin upon landing.. but as a drill i might suggest taking a dozen or so balls and observing the flight, spin & carry patterns to develop until you are confident and consistent tracking the ball toward the pin.. get that chip-in or setup for a birdie putt! cheers

    as a mid to high handicapper i would have tried shot 2, but aim for a wider part of the green, yes you are putting from 40 ft but you have a good chace of 2 putts and only dropping one.

    Hi Chris great videos. I'm hooked on your channel. You explain why you do things which is key for me. In most of your other videos you stress the importance of keeping the club face square at impact. Here you are opening the club face so why does the ball not shoot off to the right ?

    In those circumstances would you try to finish with the tee on the back of the glove pointing up or pointing more horizontal? I’m guessing if you point it up you can go higher with more momentum through the shot.

    Give it the ol' "karate chop", let's call it. I actually find it useful to name the various types of shots I know around the green for easy recall. Let's see, I have the "Jason Day" (very open wedge with a no wrist putting stroke), the "Fred Couples" ( big lazy swing with a slightly open face taking outside about 15 degrees the sort of dropping the right shoulder to get under it upon contact), the "Matt Kuchar" (inside to inside mid range chip when I want good crisp contact), etc...

    Great lesson Chris, I've been struggling lately on my course where off the fairway is rough which is fairly long and springy so it grabs the club and I'm thinning the shot and losing distance even causing a shank. I've always used 7,8 9, or pitching wedge just to take my medicine and get back into play. I playing on championship courses so long and challenging and the semi rough is penal. Should I be breaking my wrists like in this video? Many thanks and keep the great videos coming!

    If you do this chip and you have not practiced it a heap you will thin the ball at warp speed past the pin into one of your playing partners. I do NOT recommend this type of shot. If you have to make this type of shot from time to time on your course then practice the hell out of it. Then practice it again.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  4 місяці тому

      Hey, I think all shots need practice, short or full swing. Blading this over the green would require the low point to be shifted excessively forward, back or raised by a significant amount, which part of this technique do you think would cause either of those?
