and also spreads the upgrades into 2 items instead of just the armour slots , loads of gems at level 21 can get bought for a few C , but a five and six link gem will be more valuable
I was thinking about this as well. I rarely ever have the ideal base item for my gear. It's already so hard to get the exact stats you want, and then the colors as well. So unless you can get lucky or take the time to manually add and remove sockets repeatedly until you get what you want, getting everything together all at once is really difficult without crafting everything. This is a welcome change. There's no reason sockets should be tied to the gear stats.
Canonically people of the Vaal empire used to have virtue gems attached to their bodies as a source of power, so it seems our exile is finally trascending
The socket change makes sense. There are only a limited number of skill slots so if you have too many active gems you won't have enough slots for them all without stopping and manually swapping just to cast something. It also makes minion builds very hard to balance since they could potentially have every minion 6 socketed from all those active gems. Having a hard coded number of gem slots for each character seems like a great way to solve all these problems.
Also support gems could take progressively growing bits of spirit to now allow for 9+ 6-links. To me it makes sense lore-wise: going insane from excessive thaumatergy

I am completely new to PoE, played about a month... I started with the original Diablo, played others, such as Grim Dawn. Diablo seems hopelessly broken to me now. Diablo IV is basically a playable demo for far better games, like PoE, Last Epoch, etc. This video makes me really excited to try PoE 2. More so than any other. GGG should send you some money for it.
Thanks for the video! I am very excited for the skill system in PoE2 and being able to have more freedom to have multiple skills and elements. Also very happy with the aura change.

I am constantly striving to improve the tightness, editing, and quality while informing folks new and old. Thanks for watching as long as you have, Il.
6-linked sockets were the reason I stopped playing this game. Can't wait for PoE 2. I figured out that to craft such a gear on your own is quite impossible and the easiest way is just to farm currency to buy such a gear. Sorry, but I found zero fun with this approach. Funny enough I completed all the maps to get 6-linked recepy with my 4-linked gear. But this was not funny at all. Once I got it I found out that there is no way to make such a gear yourself by just going and buying it after countless hours of farming currency. So I dropped this game :/
It's definitely an improvement in comparison, but I'm worried about the droprate of 6l skills. In poe1, we can get tabula level 1 and blast through the campaign if we want to, but in poe2...
The number of slots is upgraded using specific items. So, we'll be farming for the upgrade item instead of the 6l skill. The higher the link the rarer the upgrade item. This was talked about at ExcileCon 2023 IIRC.
I Stopped playing PoE 1 because of the socket system. Every season I'd be stuck in red maps because I'm using an old 5 or 6 link body armour and I desparately need to upgrade but I can never get an upgrade with better slots. It was a major barrier for me. When PoE 2 announced with this change I was super excited. This was pretty much the only thing keeping me from this franchise.
Not getting cucked by RNG / forced to use specific gear because of the sockets / farm thousands on thousands on thousands of fusings just to get your gems setup is gonna be huge. It's a huge reason I don't even bother playing PoE into maps. If I don't have a deterministic way to improve my character, there is no point in me even playing. My biggest issue with PoE is that EVERYTHING is a gamble, that forces you to optimize every second you play into efficient grinding of resources or you'll never have the resources to actually have a shot at making a cool build that works. It takes all the fun out of just playing the game for fun... and then once your character is finally fun to play -- you've already destroyed the entire game and either the league is over, or you wanna try a new build. I'm all for "give me all the tools to make my character fun to play, early enough to actually play the game with them." I shouldn't have to grind for 100 hours just to be able to afford to try gambling. Gambling currency as a casual player in PoE is like throwing all your currency into the trash... or betting your entire 401k on winning the lottery with one ticket.
Ive watched all the POE2 discussion and I have a different thought with respect to skill gems. I got the feeling that there will be limits on the number of six socketed gems we can have. At the moment we can have a max of 24 if you dont count unset rings and maloneys. I understood GGG's statements as meaning that any skill gem could have a max of 5 supports but we would be limited to a total number of sockets, just in a broader way. Also, skill gems are meant to have varying sockets available. So you might find a 3 link skill gem, or a six link skill gem and these sockets wont be modifiable. Find it or buy it, but not make it. Further, considering the 3-23 skill gem change it seems GGG are going down a path where a transfigured gem with 5 sockets might be extremlly rare.
Honestly, the way I can compare them, is PoE1: "I *want* to use this thing, time to hunt all the stuff down and hope I get it" PoE2: "I *WILL* use this thing, time to grab the things I need to get this done!"
I Liked the First interration From exilecon 2019 More. Still in gear but links in gem. would male Weapon Switch More active instead of Just Setting it up once in a Menu and allow for 2 Differenz skillbars.
Always afraid of big changes when you start from a so good game... And for those saying "The gem system was one of the main reasons I didn't play PoE 1.", well, PoE 2 should please the PoE actual players base, not players who did not like PoE 1...
If gem cutting is limited to basic abilities then it can be usefull for deterministicly filling in the gaps in a build. Uncut gems should be uncommon at most but aquireable somewhat early in game.
Do you know if the skills will all be the same on CD? The truth is, I would like to see skills with different cds and some ultimate types, for example, the one without cd, which does 100 damage, the one with 10sec cd that does 1000 damage, to compensate for the time without being able to use it, or 500cd damage. Not the best example but something like that
I haven't played since they removed Prophs. Don't plan on it either. Since PoE was the only loot based, fully online game I played - being a HUGE Diablo II fan and playing PoE since early 2013, I am not really missing it all that much. I might play PoE2 as its completely different than PoE. We will see.
My god i hope they change the goddamn UI to make it look and function like its run on a windows and not USSR computer. PoEs interface was outdated back in 2010 and i sure hope they dont release it like this.
Have they confirmed that we're actually socketing gems into our characters? There could be some other lore friendly explanation for why we don't need socketed gear. Perhaps our characters all have some sort of new invention they keep with them that they sockets gems into. This is supposed to be set sometime in the future from PoE1.
I don't see how it will be as good as PoE1. Like in maps with a lot of mobs... all of the footage we saw are with small number of monsters and all new form of skills we can see (gun, bear etc.) are for small packs (based on the footages, I hope there will be option to make them better for huge packs). The game currently seems like a Van Helsing and a Diablo child.
Gear beying gear and skills (i.e. gems) beying skils is by far the best thing they could have done. I was not thinking they were smart enough to do it but here we are. Amazing.
The lore implications are kind of fascinating, but on a mechanical basis: This is what is a true refinement on PoE 1. It fixes a major gearing problem while helping out balance enormously. Getting a build running with the skills you want should be easy, perfecting it should take time. Gear being stat sticks (aside from weapons determining what skills are open to use) makes that work this way. To speak to those lore implications, with the knowledge of the risks involved it's likely that some refinement of the gems is there to keep that problem under control. Though it may be a case of 'everyone has different thresholds of safety' akin to the risk of cyber psychosis, with the player character being an outlier with an extremely high threshold. That unknown refinement could well be the resource for adding sockets to gems. The sockets could act as regulators to the gem, while also drastically cutting down on the number of gems in the body. Consider: If I have eight skills with six linked implanted, that is a total of forty-eight gems in my body. That is _six times_ as many as I would need if the support gems are built into the skill gems themselves as PoE 2 will do. This could be the innovation that makes implanting gems practical. That older civilization may have not had access to some new resource for this job, or simply never pursued the ability to do this as they saw no problem with doing things the way they were. Alternatively, the literal god slaying going on may have changed the fundamental laws of how the world works.

Let me speculate a bit about what our old characters will look like when we dip back into standard in POE 2. Two words, Lady Dialla. The way she became after firing up the rapture device is what we are gonna look like. "Phantasms in crystalline form". Do you think we will need to heat up some blood(source-wherever) and soak the gems before we insert them into our wounds? As i understand it, we will only have seconds if we wish to succeed. Lol. Hows that for lore? Edit: I just watched back the sequence of gameplay after the skill "Comet" is put into "Cast on Shock". The character did 8 lightning attacks and the comet went off on the 9th. Is shock going to work on a gauge that fills up similar to poise or how freeze works now? The previous footage of the overhead lightning bolts procing volcano's was cast on crit or was the same? Do crits reduce this gauge faster than regular hits now?
@@apexfalllegendarium349 In 1, we are not gemlings. In 2, it appears we may be. The gems will socket into the character. Supports will socket into skills and skills into us. It does seem that there will be sockets on some things like the crossbow

This is a great change, only problem i have is that we may be getting too many skill gems. If 9 is the base, how many skills are they expecting us to use?
I'm already thinking of builds, like the mercenary with the rifle crossbow and then a on hit gem with some big damage skills and then get mods on gear that makes sure that my mana stays filled.
I prefer being able to play what I want and find gears, then being force to use a set of gear because I have socket link and the color I need. It always bugging me that link was on gears and it make finding the right socket more important then the stats on it.

The PoE2 development reminds me of what D4 "could've been or, should've been." By intentionally holding features and end game content back, IRONICALLY, this approach from Blizzard achieves the opposite effect and it shows. Where GGG is going ALL OUT on game design and fun, and worry about the F()cking cosmetic microtransactions later. Blizzard devotes a HUGE amount of resource on cosmetics...the only problem is that there won't be anyone left to show off 😂😂😂 Poe2 4 THE WIN!!!!
Have played PoE since CBT, but after few years the game started to become a way to complex, I quit, and come back here and there, my problem is that not playing poe constantly, every time I came back had to watch to many hours of guides to keep up. Looks like that poe2 going to be much more accessible for every players, this is a total win.
you dont have bad performance in act 1 , you have bad performance in maps that have hundreds of effects on screen , poe 2 will have greater clarity due to less shit on screen , and consequentially better performance
It’s funny how you always shit on Blizz for sometimes taking inspiration from PoE, but then you praise GGG for taking inspiration from other games all the time. The hypocrisy of the PoE cult is insane.
What? I WANT Blizzard to steal from POE. I crap on them because they refuse to. Last Epoch takes obvious inspiration from POE and it's AMAZING. Blizzard need to do it more.

Do crits reduce this gauge faster than regular hits now?
the gem are in the armor though not our character we are not the gemling guys right
@@apexfalllegendarium349 In 1, we are not gemlings. In 2, it appears we may be. The gems will socket into the character. Supports will socket into skills and skills into us. It does seem that there will be sockets on some things like the crossbow
Will there be the Italian language?
Thank you for the info! and your dedication!
I didn't know about this Gem/Socket change so thanks for the info. Not sure I'm excited for Supports are Drop only. Makes SSF a poor choice for me.
So what happens to tabula rasa?
Around 10:10
Not sure where that game footage derived from but you have to love watching a 20fps frame drop with a single mob on the screen.... Looks promising.... 🙄
I put 20 hours into poe 1 on ps4 but I just got a ps5 should I wait for poe 2 or finish out my character?
Keep playing POE1, it's an amazing game and it's...deep. POE2 will be a bit :)
Never wait to play a newer game and not play the old one. 99% of the time games get worse with each release
Never again will I stare at a trade menu for 10 minutes making sure there are 6 links!
This is a great change, only problem i have is that we may be getting too many skill gems. If 9 is the base, how many skills are they expecting us to use?
Quality content as always! ❤
This is the first time i’ve seen the lore application being acknowledged. And that makes me happy, since I love the lore.
Ruthless🔥
Are you able to link the original video? Apologies if I overlooked it somewhere.
Didn't they say we could move the xp from 1 gem to another if say i had a lvl 12 fireball but i found a 15% superior fireball i could transfer my current fireballs xp to the new superior one?
I heard that as well
Lovely, I always dislike the gems in gear system
The PoE2 development reminds me of what D4 "could've been or, should've been." By intentionally holding features and end game content back, IRONICALLY, this approach from Blizzard achieves the opposite effect and it shows. Where GGG is going ALL OUT on game design and fun, and worry about the F()cking cosmetic microtransactions later. Blizzard devotes a HUGE amount of resource on cosmetics...the only problem is that there won't be anyone left to show off 😂😂😂 Poe2 4 THE WIN!!!!
can we put support gems on skill gems and then socket those in meta gems?
That is an amazing question. I have NO idea.
I hope the optimization in poe2 will be better than in the previous game.😑
you dont have bad performance in act 1 , you have bad performance in maps that have hundreds of effects on screen , poe 2 will have greater clarity due to less shit on screen , and consequentially better performance
Is PoE more demanding on CPU or GPU ?
CPU
Also need min of 100 mb ram
It’s funny how you always shit on Blizz for sometimes taking inspiration from PoE, but then you praise GGG for taking inspiration from other games all the time. The hypocrisy of the PoE cult is insane.
What? I WANT Blizzard to steal from POE. I crap on them because they refuse to. Last Epoch takes obvious inspiration from POE and it's AMAZING. Blizzard need to do it more.
@@TalkativeTrinah dude is on the money. you do this all the time. you come off as a crazy fanboy. Mounts in d4? so dumb...mounts in poe 2 ?!!! omg its just pure genius!! multiple skill builds(*d4)...its so crappy..d4 bad...poe 2 wants to do the same thing...ITS GENIUS!! OMG john rogers marry me?
Don't know what I think about the uncut gem system.
Uncut gem looks like rng to get specific skill
you know the feeling of dropping a corrupted level 21 gem and its worth 3c ? , now a uncut gem that is 5-6 linked will be worth more than those
Mark my words, new gem system will be biggest fallacy of PoE 2. It will open flood gates for super meta builds and build diversity will go down the drain. Everyone will be playing the same shit. Things will get old pretty fast.
The Diablo sounds was cute, but we all know that PoE was never based on anything remotely close to that venerable game. Still this looks interesting.
And to not give D4 a pass, but Activision COULDN'T learn anything from D3, because that team is completely gone. They were replaced by a WoW team. It's how the business works in Activision Land, sadly.
POE2's new Gem/Skill system, along with dual speccing and combat fluidity, is truly a dream come true for me (and hopefully everyone else). GGG has always spoiled us with POE, but everything they've revealed for POE2 so far has left me speechless... and, there's still more to come!
Love your work, Talkative Tri. Keep doing what you do best, mate.
What will be the state of pure summoner builds? Developers keep trying to force me to play my fantasy game like a quick reaction shooter. I enjoy walking along watching y minions do my will :p
Why is everyone talking about skill gems? We all know about em, they are going to be sick, we are all wondering if we now get d2 itemization back in poe, which would be absolutely fucking nuts, imagine bases rares and uniques with runes gems jewels, which is now possible due to gems freeing up the space to do so, honestly I hope it will happen.
"some of us aren't into the lore"
My dude, you're literally the first person I've seen that even knows lore exists in Poe.
It's funny looking at the innovation in this game and then going to something like D4 that feels like it's 10 years past its expiration date
Path of Exile 2 gonna be the best free Diablo type game ever
As long as there is an in lore explanation nobody cares.
i really hope they design the game for the masses and not the whales.
