Same here. After 2000 hrs I finally made a proper item instead of just being reserved with easy ones like potions and medium clusters or use mechanics like RoG.
1000 hours and best crafts I did are some fracture and essence spam.. Didn't even touch crafts for divines in crafting bench, does that count as crafting?
Tried it myself many years ago with friends, we never made it past the "tutorial". Returned shortly before the new league, beat the "tutorial" and started the actual game. At first I just wanted more of the things the campaign (tutorial) gave me, but soon I got addicted to progressing through the maps and seeing more and more and better and better loot. Had to install 238957 different things to help keep track and manage it all. As of just a few hours ago I beat one of the first actual bosses, The Shaper. Then I learned there were about 12029358 more bosses, and also got my first t17 map drop. I've only just started scratching the bottom of the end game scene. Send help! :o
I think one of the key things with Path of Exile is that you are actively encouraged to "break" the game - not necessarily in a true exploit way, but by honing in on item and skill interactions to create incredibly powerful combinations which most other ARPGs would outright stop you from doing for fear of the player becoming "too powerful". As a very simple example of this, you can use a unique item to lower your elemental resistances but cause 40% of fire and cold damage to be taken as lightning. Then, you can use a passive bonus to make another 10% cold and fire damage be taken as lightning. Then there's yet another passive that causes 50% of elemental damage to be taken as chaos damage. This allows you to focus on ONLY those 2 resistances, as now 100% of damage from cold and fire is going to those instead. There are much more broken interactions, but that's just a light example of some of the shenanigans that you not only can, but are expected and actively encouraged to do. There are ways to give yourself effectively infinite HP, and its accepted. Yes, it might cost you an arm and a leg to do... But you can do it.
The game started out as a passion project in a garage made buy a group of buddies sharing their love for ARPG games, and they have never gone astray from this passion and love for the game/genre at any point in the games existence. Some changes made have been poorly recieved by the community, but even then they never fail to show a deep interest in feedback. The complexity of this game is not there just for the sake of complexity, but as a product of passion. This IMO is what makes PoE one of, if not the best game of all time - and definately the titan of ARPGs. Welcome, exile!
I don’t normally comment on videos but dude this was an awesome video. I think you might do well in this space. Glad to see new content creators for path. It’s been my favorite game for almost a decade. Good luck on the journey brother.
Been playing POE for like...8 years. only skipped maybe 5 leagues in all those years... killed Atziri for the first time like.... 4 years ago... beat the maven and all base bossess for the first time in affliction league :O. Now I can consistently create a character and defeat all pinnacle bossess in around 2 months. Slow still, but the point is.... you get better at the game at your pace and its amazing how rewarding it feels. I play with a friend who started playing like 5 years ago, he still cannot beat the Maven on his own, but getting there.
This. I see too many people who look at experience POE content creators and think they need to do exactly what they do to be good at, or even enjoy the game. They forget that those people literally make a living playing the game for 8+ hours a day, it's their JOB. You do NOT need to treat a game as your job to enjoy it. Play it and experience it in your own way. Comparing yourself to others is never the best way to experience anything.
i never killed her.. not even once.. Every league i farm my own 2 voidstone and the other 2 just pay people for it.. Never really like bossing.. Good thing is you dont have to.. Made mirrors every league without touching those bosses.. I have a guildie where for some reason he likes to make build a build based on those viral-ed by youtubers and sell them.. guess what, he made more than me every league.. Best thing about poe is you can play it however you like..
I've been playing the game off and on since 2012 (the closed beta). I didn't kill Uber Atziri, Uber Elder, Sirus or Maven until THIS league. And I finally completed my Atlas with all four voidstones.
6000 hours in, have yet to kill multiple endgame bosses. Haven't seen Mageblood till 12 leagues in. If you're just starting, have long term plans. Short term plans will make you want to destroy your computer. And life.
I've been playing off and on since 2014. I've yet to even attempt the Maven fight, much less any of the Uber bosses they've added in the past few years. I think this just goes to show that you can still enjoy playing the game without worrying about experiencing everything it has to offer.
Best advice in the video: Don't give up! I grew up playing grindy games (MMORPGs) and Tried the game probably 3 years ago. I was able to finish the ACT but wasn't feeling it (maybe it was the mechanic of the time). But now with the new season, i loved farm/town sim games and a bit of a gamba and actually tried to delve in deep into understanding some (if not all) mechanics of the game and blew my mind on how complex and fun the game is. Highly recommend for those who have spare time in their life. Haha!
New player friendliness from the community is a 10/10 though. Had so many questions and copious amounts of people would comment to help or offer words of encouragement. Love the poe community
@@Hueybro that is not what is meant with playerfriendly ! Playerfriendly is when you get everything explained in minute detail or get everything put into your bags without much doing like in Diablo 3 and 4 where you basically get your endgame gear easy and just have to upgrade it ! Playerfriendly means that your are basically treated like a small child that gets pulled around by their parents ! Poe is different ! you dont get much explanation at all and just get thrown into the pool without being able to swim ! If you dont think so play ssf or hardcore or even ruthless !
@@Hueybro and i dont argue that the community is mostly good and helpfull and kind ! But there are others that are the complete opposite ! Look at Belton or the tft-skandal ! Or were you ever scammed ? Normal people dont do stuff like that ! Or shouldn't at least !

This league is my third time playing POE - once back on release, when Piety and Dominus were the end of the tutorial (I don't think I did more than like 3-4 maps), once in Crucible league where I didn't make it past white maps (Couldn't figure out how to upgrade my gear enough to keep scaling), and then this league, where I'm now running a multi-mirror build and have dumped like 400 hours in. Wealthy Exile helped me understand what I had that was valuable, and Faustus made it possible to convert most everything to usable currency and unlocked trading. Without the two of them I would have probably bounced off the game again. From my limited experience, this is the best the game has ever been, even if it's more complex than it's ever been. 10/10 game.
Been playing POE on and off for around 10 years now and still learn new things every league. Still remember my first character when I went in completely blind as a teenager. Had absolutely no idea what I was doing, was using a really bad starter skill the entire time and stacked nothing but damage with no defences or resistances. Safe to say I quit without even completing the campaign (back then it was just the first 3 acts but repeated 3 times with increasing difficulty). Now I'm blasting through Uber's and T17's league after league and very much looking forward to going into POE 2.
i love poe , i remember the first time i did the campain it took me about 40 hrs , figuring out stats , trying skills and overall exploring all the maps , i didnt know about anything , didnt have a filter or knew how to sell items so i pretty much was playing like ssf till around act 8 , in that act i had my *** handed to me several times, so i decided to look up stuff , i loved the game before and every time i got a new mechanic or understood even basic game knowladge it felt really good , one of the most best feeling i had was after looking up a guide i managed to arrange my build to suit a cyclone "meta" build ,the game is so much complex that even when following a build guide you feel really like having a nice puzzle to solve or at least for me , i looked up the suggested talents and gear but didnt read the guide in per se so was really fun aiming at something , getting it , experiencing how better the build felt and figuring out why it did ... i think so far it's the only game i played that accomplisced that
the dramatic drum sound when you mention something is killing me 😆 thanks for the laugh, great video! hope to see you playing PoE with us for a long time to come
Nice job, welcome to the game. I started playing like a year after release, and being a vet of ARPG I figured it would be fun, well I was so overwhelmed by the skill tree I said f it and went to another game. With the newest season I went ahead and decided to retry the game, this time using a build guide. Well I can't put the game down. I have -played 3 different characters to end game, and now trying to get through maps and Maven. I've only done minor, minor crafting, as the high end crafting seems a bit overwhelming, thankfully there are a ton of guides out there. As someone who is addicted to ARPGs as a whole, I am truly addicted to PoE
I hit the 10th anniversary of making my PoE account last month and I am definitely one of those regular players that learnt bit by bit on each league release. What needs to be stated though is that this isn't a game which requires this level of knowledge all at once. Pick a goal for yourself and complete it then repeat. If you approach the game in bite size amounts its really easy to progress and learn over time as things will feed into eachother and its very much a choose your own adventure in you get to pick which content you focus on.
Just like you, I have been playing games for 29 years. The only game that comes close to having this tight of a grip on me over all this time is WoW. This is my 3rd league, best one so far! Clocked in about 2k hours total. Every league I have a watch party with my friends and launch day we LAN. Brings back childhood feelings. That being said, I still feel like a noob, specially when it comes to crafting 😂 I am gonna play my first gauntlet starting now on the 26th! Recommend you trying it out. Welcome Exile! Hope you stay here a while because I sure will. Will check out your stream 😊 Love to watch new player experiences.
I started during affliction league. Didnt really know anything about the game but the challenge league rewarss really hooked me into getting better. Necropolis and now Settlers league, having 1000+ hours to the game i finally crafted my first item. Its a game changer to be honest. I dont understand the other mechanics yet but its a game where you learn one step at a time. I run the past 2 leagues with all uniques items. Had a shock to see guides where people pull out a spread sheet and just numbers without gameplay and see the comments saying "nice build" or "thanks for this" without understanding anything i was watching until now
Well, I started playing PoE in the middle of Necropolis season. And it was a blast. Now I`m clearing T16 maps and still progressing, because there is still so much to do, still many mechanics to understand to. Amazing. :)
As someone with 1400 hours watching this video: "Wait what the f are tattoos?" I needed to give this game 3 tries and finally force myself through the first few hours because of how the game doesn't explain crap but once I did that I was hooked so hard. Zana sums the complexity of PoE nicely with one of her quotes. "Still sane, Exile?" Welcome brother
Wow, your video is possibly one of the best if not THE best for players who are new. Very articulative and concise with canonically complicated topics! Hopefully this video makes it big, you deserve it.
My fav league mechanic is Beastiary by far. When I'm trying to decide how to navigate the Betrayal Chart, exchange items between the 4 different vendors of expedition, or keep track of all my essence items, it's so nice to hear the Einhar shout "HA! I caught the doggie!!" with such simplistic innocence. Never change, Einhar. Never change.
This was a delightful video to watch. I've never seen PoE described so succinctly while also demonstrating the depths of the game involved. Great video.
wow a new player that actually got far into the game and can give a fair rating, and even more impressive, feel like u actually understood most of the concept of the game. this cant be the first time you played??? great vid.
I played a few weeks before league, but got a lot of stuff gifted to me by Twitch chat so I learnt nothing. Now Im doing my first real character in SSF, yes first time.
You forgot to add it's also unplayable in endgame without like at least 30$ worth of stash tabs... :) I like how PoE players conveniently skip this part and boast about it being f2p. Yeah it is if you're only playing campaign. And if you're playing endgame without mechanics stash tabs + at least a few normal ones then you're a masochist.
@@DoctorStrange01 Annoying yes, completely unplayable no. If you wait for a sale, you can get the essential tabs for less than $20 total. And to be honest, only playing the campaign is already way more content than most $70 games today. So given that, I do consider it free but if it makes you feel better, call it a $30 game that's a bad deal.
@DoctorStrange01 sure but you can try the game out for free, and by the time you NEED a stash tab, you have probably already played a dozen or so hours. 30 to 60 usd is a fair price for a game, and that's about how much you need to spend for a currency + map + quad tab, along with one or two others. (on sale ofc)
Welcome to the family fellow Exile. Too bad u missed girl named Zana and her favorite quote: Still sane Exile? after 5k+ hours, i can safely say...yes still sane. and i still learn some new things about game every now and them. learning curve of this games is beyond godlike, but like you said it in the video, the game is masterpiece and very very replayable. by far best ARPG out there, and well its free game lol. it costs nothing, tho pretty sure that every exile out there spend atlest 200+$ on a game both to support devs, cuz GGG is amazing company, or simply to have some sickass MTX.
Welcome to the family Perfect time to join, with PoE2 coming in a few weeks, hopefully you'll be able to join us and "grow with the game", it's a fascinating community!
Game is free and has the best type of minimization of all games ever, the way they go above and beyond to create cool visual skins that people really want to buy that fund the game is crazy. Yeah there is stash tabs, but that great of a game, you can justify spending 30 ish eur on tabs after like 10-20 hrs of gameplay where you can see if the game is for you
Talking about monetization, I usually dislike practices like expensive mtx and pay for convenience things even in F2P games. However, PoE is so good, I wanna throw money at them every season.
I've been playing for like 10 years now, and this is THE best new player introduction to PoE video I have EVER seen, by a large margin. You are new, and already got it pretty much spot on. 1 bit of my opinion tho - if you _can read_, and are NOT immune to learning, it's way more new player friendly than it might seem. At the start, all you really need is the poe wiki. Overall - I think someone needs to ping Chris to put it on the main page, no joke. I get a feeling you will explode soon, you make content a ton of ppl can relate to 👍
"The campaign is just the tutorial," is a phrase often said by veteran players. But know that if you're a new player, there's no shame in only completing the campaign. Just know that there's a massive endgame to explore, should you want to.
noone ever said PoE is beginner friendly but the players are beginner friendly always happy to help new players. As leagues go on the game becomes bigger and bigger, that's why Diablo 4 although it started well it became extremely boring compared to PoE's wast endgame content. If you are interested in the game lore it worth the time for once to go through the campaign with even listening of what's going on because the story is good and dark, Diabo2-like
for me POE is like being a mad scientist. You get to create a crazy character then send him out in the world and see if it was good enough to prosper and then you continuously tinker with it to fine tune it for better survivability as you take on bigger and badder monsters in the world. It is almost more a simulator than a game! The cool thing is that if you like tower defense games well hello blight or dungeon crawling, welcome Delve, there is probably a nook or cranny in the game for everyones favourite type of gameplay.
i`ve been playing for 10 years now and i spend days helping new players on discords step by step explaining and guiding them for a smoother experience. 100% a masterpiece. you just need a guide and a lot of videos to make your journey amazing. great video !!!

I have been playing PoE since the beginning and its quite possibly my favorite game of all time I have OVER 30k hours in the game. But personally I NEVER rush the campaign, I always take my time trying out new skills, new builds, new side content. I like to test the c thats how you get used to a build as you are leveling it. People get way to caught up with instantly going the meta builds and getting bored after a couple weeks,... Its like back in the day when people started using trainers for games and then got super bored because they could steamroll everything and didn't get that feeling of acomplishment working your way up to that point. I mean not saying the speedrun each league is a bad thing, Just don't think thats the only thing thats fun in the game. Hell it has a pretty good story as well if you stop to talk to the npc's and check out the lore scattered about like they do in souls games. Such a brilliant game! Still can't believe its free to play
Nice video glad to see it. I've dumped a considerable amount of hours into this game over the years. IMO this is the pinnacle of the genre and GGG are fantastic stewards. The ironic part of the game being uber complex is that after a certain point it becomes like a worn comfortable pair of shoes. I'll do a new build, put the work in for items, but then I can get to a point of zen where I can just play and my brain gets a rest. Its the only game I continue to come back to every 3-4 months.
The acts aren't the tutorial. They are like the introduction screen. The first 500-1000h is when you start to grasp and feel comfortable with the mechanics that you have chosen to focus on. This is coming from someone with 6k+h in the game. And btw i still look up stuff and watch tutorials regularly. The game is so open ended and modular with your strategies and build creation that there is literally no one that can claim to know everything about the game. There is no ceiling for learning in this game.
This is such a good video, when i started playing i watched a ton of new player guides and stuff. All useless because it's been 10 years since these people were new-players. I needed this when i was starting out. Also I love how comments on new player video's are always wholesome lol.
It's rather possible, not entirely playable. I wouldn't say free, I say: cheap. It cost you around 20$ to set your stash (currency tab, map tab and at least 1 premium tab for selling items). Then you're good to go for eternity.
@@karolw9466 all i meant was you can try for free to see if its your type of game to play. I understand what you are saying but, Nothing to do with what im trying to convey.
Hihi.... really enjoyed your video and I see myself in the same situation. I'm a >40 years old guys, I played games beginning of 1990s and have lots of comparison, but there is nothing comparable to PoE to be honest :D. So I feel very connected to you. Let's see, I'm currently playing more Grim Dawn again because it's just a lot more ‘relaxed’ than PoE or Diablo 4, but I think I'll definitely give PoE2 a go as I really like the style and the bosses! And.... don't know why but it seems like I am following lots of Australian streamers 🤔
Thanks for the comment! I love Grim Dawn and played it through twice before I found PoE. I will also try and stream PoE 2. A lot of Aussie streamers in this area it seems...
In my opinion PoE is one of the best games ever created. Soon 6k hours at my steam. Kalguur league already on 36 challenges. 20 Chars lvl 90+ from different 20 leagues. Started @ Harbinger league and still love this game
everytime i take a break from PoE and take a look again, i dont recognise it anymore and have to read a thesis just to learn what changed from the last time i looked
Yup has take me 1200 hours to actually come up with a build good enough to do all the endgame bosses and actually figure out farming enough to get a mageblood, my first character to hit 100, refusing to use build guides slows things down a touch haha, got my friend started this league and was able to get him to endgame bossing and unlocking all his map slots in his first league xD Essense crafting and fossil crafting, especially in fractured items are going to be your staples in terms of beginner crafting, good luck!
Played for something like 6000-7000 hours since mid-closed beta. I could write for ages about the game, but I will just say its unlike anything else on the market, and everyone who likes aRPGs can find something they like to do in this game. Don't let the complexity scare you off if thinking about playing PoE, you don't need to know even a fraction of what the game has to offer to have fun playing it, even those of us who have been there since the earliest days of the game don't know even close to everything about it, there are players who specialize entirely into a single aspect of the game to master it and make it theirs.
"Increased" and "More" are just the tip of the iceberg though, you might also have to understand the different ways in how each of the "Added", "Extra", "Converted" and "+ to" work. And then you have each ailment (bleeding, poisoned, different kinds of burning...) working in a slightly different way, some of them also adding damage over time which itself has its own rules (and like how there's chaos over time that is poison, and then CoT that is not !), and also the way how some critical strikes guarantee some ailments, but not others !
The sound effects made me laugh out loud. Good video. POE 2 will be easier for a new player to start because we are all starting at 0 plus the tutorialization will be actually good. The league mechanics added every 3-4 months is why it's a 400 complexity so it will be really nice to start from beta like some of us did 10+ years ago.
(2000 hour noob) I think of PoE as the cross section of Agency and Challenge. To keep the experienced player base interested they seem compelled to release every new league mechanic complex enough to require an excel spread sheet to play it correctly. On the flip side any new player can learn to craft jewels with basic gear like Augmentation, Chaos, Exhalt, and such. And Barbs can run summons and Necro can run bows and that's cool.
To be fair, long-time PoE players are usually trying to be helpful towards new players and will help them with explaining various stuff. I am doing this myself as well (been playing since Delve league)
ofc we do.. we want to trap more of people and make em Exiles :D more exiles online - more chance someone will actually repond to your whispers of trade :DDDD
I'm a relative newb as well. 522 hours in, and only completed campaign for the first time this league. Just did my first tier 7 map yesterday. Still have a LONG way to go to understand basics like gearing. Have done almost no crafting. I'm still loving the game though. As you said, so much to learn and explore.
@@VollKaracho209 Multiple times trying the game with one class or another, no build guides, no UA-cam exposure, but eventually giving up each time to turn to other games. It wasn't until Darth Micro started playing more seriously that I got interested enough to actually watch vids, look at build guides, and play through the campaign.
I played in the closed beta up until about 5 years ago. Started again for 3.25 and was lost again. What makes me mad is stash tabs cost like 10x they used to. You could get a premium stash tab for like $2 back in the day, which is required if you wanna trade
That's why I didn't put that the game is free. A lot of people said I missed that, and sure maybe some people don't buy tabs - but come on, the game cost me more than any other game with enough tabs for quality of life.
Since totalbiscuit videos about this game i have been a poe player from the beta, and its incredible the evolution the game has gone from those days, and its all possible due to a great development team and a community working together tuning this master piece and i think this is how live service games should work indeed 🤔

Haha. I actually don't have headhunter to play with. That was when I tried PoE in the last league, a few days before it ended. I'm doing SSF now... I have to find everything myself and I have no special uniques.
I really like your take on this. I have played this game since day one on and off. The things that frustrate me the most are the necessity of outside resources to function and the needlessly poor overlap of crafting methods. There are so many things that conflict or block other things and nothing really tells you how they work together because they don't in most cases. It's the one area of the game that IMO really suffers from bloat. The rest is fantastic.
So I recently found Path of Exile. A few months ago. I've been streaming it ever since. This is my review.

Yep!!!
Yeah I find that totally fascinating. The more I find, the more I like it.
I love that the devs actively support keeping wardloop viable
Yeah. I am amused by builds such as Cast When Damage Taken Auto-bombers or Spell Slinger / Volidead. Poe is one of a kind.
Dude, this is a really well done video !
Thanks!

Thank you so much! Appreciate the kind words brother.

You know PoE is both fun and addictive when I ask myself, "why play this when i could play PoE instead?" whilst playing other games.
True.
I do this to, but I still get to a point where I have to play something else, since I do eventually get burnt out during a league lol.
Haha!
Thanks! Great comment.
Ratings 11/10, Complexity 12/10, Replayability 15/10 and new player friendly -100/10 🙂
Krangled 10/10

10/10 game.
Thank you!
Listen what, kids. I wasted half my life with WoW...
The other half will be wasted with PoE.
Haha
i love poe , i remember the first time i did the campain it took me about 40 hrs , figuring out stats , trying skills and overall exploring all the maps , i didnt know about anything , didnt have a filter or knew how to sell items so i pretty much was playing like ssf till around act 8 , in that act i had my *** handed to me several times, so i decided to look up stuff , i loved the game before and every time i got a new mechanic or understood even basic game knowladge it felt really good , one of the most best feeling i had was after looking up a guide i managed to arrange my build to suit a cyclone "meta" build ,the game is so much complex that even when following a build guide you feel really like having a nice puzzle to solve or at least for me , i looked up the suggested talents and gear but didnt read the guide in per se so was really fun aiming at something , getting it , experiencing how better the build felt and figuring out why it did ... i think so far it's the only game i played that accomplisced that
Yes it took me 40 hours!
the dramatic drum sound when you mention something is killing me 😆 thanks for the laugh, great video! hope to see you playing PoE with us for a long time to come
LOL. Thank you!

Cheers, that's my approach.
Thanks Exile! I will stay the course! Yes I have some people in my community playing WoW also.

Fun fact: I have probably 1.5k hours in this game and this is the first time I've ever actually read what Mageblood does lmao.

Had a shock to see guides where people pull out a spread sheet and just numbers without gameplay and see the comments saying "nice build" or "thanks for this" without understanding anything i was watching until now
Yes I've struggled to get understandable content on PoE. Hence I will be trying to make it (in my spare time!).

3.5k hours and counting, cant wait for PoE 2!!!
Nice. I'm playing that too!
Einhar is a legend and he's so funny
"My whole screen has come to a standstill! Thats a good map!" Funny and true!
This was a delightful video to watch. I've never seen PoE described so succinctly while also demonstrating the depths of the game involved. Great video.

great vid.
I played a few weeks before league, but got a lot of stuff gifted to me by Twitch chat so I learnt nothing. Now Im doing my first real character in SSF, yes first time.
For many players it went Diablo > Diablo 2 > Path of Exile, because that's the kind of depth we wanted from Diablo 3 after rune words and synergies.
5:42 dunno why but that was so funny

As someone who has played PoE for over 9 years, this is one of the best new player reviews I've seen and I agree with everything you have said here.
Wow, thanks very much!
You forgot to mention it's free... :)
So TRUE! I really should've said that!
@@DoctorStrange01 This game deserves all the boasting. You get an incredible amount of great content for absolutely nothing, stash tabs or not.

Haha. Well I don't know if I was sane to start with, but enough to play the game. Thanks!
Thanks. Yeah that is rewarding.

Thanks
Once you understand the difference between Additive Damage and Damage Multipliers, this game is INCREDIBLY simple.
Yeah I was explained that early on thanks. But no I don't find it simple.. you are smarter than me is all :)
@@kapproach just takes some time to get used to it. Didn't become simple until after 600 hours 😂😂
Thanks. Yes PoE 2 will probably be hard but at least I can grow with the game.
(2000 hour noob)
I think of PoE as the cross section of Agency and Challenge.
Appreciate the insight!
To be fair, long-time PoE players are usually trying to be helpful towards new players and will help them with explaining various stuff. I am doing this myself as well (been playing since Delve league)
Yes I have a great experience with experienced players helping out in my stream

Thanks
