I've been binge watching your channel. I love your content and editing style! Your content is fairly different from other sailing channels, i love the photography and spear fishing. Your story is so unique as well, your boat is (from what i've seen at least) something that most people would NOT consider buying for full time cruising. You've given so much great stuff on how you've improved it. I think it kind of proves that as long as the hull is solid, put enough work in and you can cruise in any boat small or big. Keep the videos coming!
Man, that was helpful. I have planned this for years but can't till my senior rescue dog has her promises kept. Yes, going simple and small. I'll cruise my boat in the Florida Key. She has a 4 inch draft with leeboards with one sail and no motor. Two nine foot oars and not being in a hurry. I have had five years aboard at a lake marina while working a full time job and several small cruises. I love saltwater cruising. It a complete life full of wonder and danger. So alive when one with shallow water sailing.

Out of all the sailing videos, what I like the best about your videos is your humility and showing newbies how it can be done. Starting simple small and doing it to start off with is great advice, then build up. Have you looked into alternative fuels like hydrogen to run the motor?
Hello. I'm not Dan, perhaps he will answer. Unfortunately hydrogen is ... some far way off being an option. Very, very far off. That I know of it's been a "just around the corner" possibility since the 90s. All sailing vessels are eagerly waiting for the lithium replacement. As lithium is STUPID HEAVY. Generally an electric cars weight is about those thirds its batteries. Weight is the enemy of all sail craft. I hope that helps.

Really good information. You have put a lot of thought into this lifestyle and are making it work. Are there things to do better ? Yeah, probably but, you have the major things covered or at least planned out. Very good young man. Good for ya and just be safe out there.
Pilot bread is a food that we use on boats in Alaska, you might in the future look at trying some for your journeys, it preserves well and goes great with cheese/meats/PBJ.. 90% of the Pilot Bread that is made is sold in Alaska, as it is cultural there also.
Amazing. The one thing I would worry about is going to sleep and waking up to a storm that can topple my vessel over. The other thing I would suggest is if you can manage the space and means you could probably set up an aquarium fish farm and store fish there. Buy a gallon of fish food and you can have ready to eat fish in there. Of course you won't raise the fish too long because aquariums can get clogged up with poop and get dirty, you can just use the sea water to replace the water. But it's just a thought in case you want to spruce it up.

Fresh water only for sprouts. I'm a little older and I've noticed a lot of younger sailors on UA-cam. Getting a channel to be popular enough to make money with it is quite a challenge. I'm not sure how younger people do it, with small UA-cam channels being the only noticeable source of income. I've been preparing for a possible change to sailing life from land life. I've built a PV charged solar system with LiPo DIY batteries. I'll be looking hard at your DIY system. The boxes look good, keeping water away from the batteries. Mine is larger, 7 320ah batteries. I have a Renoggy 40 amp charger and might want a larger one. The Renoggy is really great, it has some features many chargers don't have. You've really got a lot of equipment, Nichole doesn't have the funds for that equipment. Your water maker will probably help her survive in the Bahamas. Thanks for the video. I recommend a book called Wilderness Medicine and following their recommendations. The medical kit is amazing ! Its a great book.
I'm halfway there. Still building my sailboat after my last one sunk in a hurricane! I've been on the water for 3 years now and just got a hunter 27! Hopeing to make a trip to the Bahamas in a few years !
@user-tu2xf4uf3n I've seen rowboats go across the Atlantic! A hunter 27 is a fine ship to take to the Bahamas! Atleast I'll figure it out either way haha
I would have added a biodigester toilet, which will provide gas to cook and vertilizer for some small fruit trees in containers for a total off grid package.
Great Video and advice, I was born in Freeport and then moved to Canada when I was 3 or so, as my father was Canadian and mother Dutch. I do plan on a getting boat and moving to the Bahamas…it’s the “Go Now” portion of your advice that always keeps blocking me. Thanks to videos like yours and many others I can at least see it regularly.
If you ever are looking for crew for a voyage think of me! I’m 23 and live in Western Massachusetts so there’s not a lot of room for sailing without driving 2 hours away. I’ve recently taken an interest in sailing so if you’re ever up this way and need some work done on the boat I’d love to learn!
I am trying to invent a reverse propellor generator DIY install.... i dont know what im doing. I just know what i want. This could provide 220 for laundry machine. so you could do your laundry with dishwasher as you sail. There are already small dishwashers that run 110 and small washers. you can install a dryer upside. You could put a large generator on you motor with its own clutch to run 220.00. people dont utilize the tech right in front of us. you need more sour krout. if your getting alot of protein. you need to clean your system with that k... something. you gotta eat vegies just to clean out the proteins once in a while or your arteries clog. just learned that today. i have been watching a bunch of sailing videos. non of you can yourselves. glass is not all gunna break and you could store them in a better state as they are all the same size. maybe we start a new canning diy and build a machine to do it ourselves for metal cans. dont be afraid of canned chicken or spam! I would still grow plants off the side of the boat. like tomatoes using fresh water run off when it rains and a timed sprinkler system. I would find ways to collect the rain water. Like 3 upside down umbrellas ??? that went to a different tank. another invention. put in 2 shop vacs and have an ice making machine. you can freeze salt water ice for one of the shop vacs, put it in reverse and have AC for the boat. still boil the salt water. clean the ice maker! have ice!!!! nobody has ace machines on thier boat. aloce centralized vac??? HELLO!!! you can use a small dishwasher to store your dishes.
Great video. And beautiful boat. I've been living a nomadic lifestyle for the past 7 years. I've traveled the U.S. And Mexico on foot, bicycle and now a self built off grid van. I've just started researching my next adventure. And I'm very happy to come across your channel. And now I believe I know what I'm looking for. Thank you for the inspiration. Safe travels.

We tried the sprouts while sailing in the Bahamas, but they all rotten in the heat. Lack of veggie is one the thing that got us to come back earlier, my wife got a sun allergy from too much sun and not enough green veg. Be careful with the sun, skin cancer is the sailor disease.

Nice you should go for it!
hahahah - a 27 ft going to the bahamas --=-=-hahahahah !!!!
@user-tu2xf4uf3n I've seen rowboats go across the Atlantic! A hunter 27 is a fine ship to take to the Bahamas! Atleast I'll figure it out either way haha
Love your videos going to binge watch every single one as your living the lifestyle I've been dreaming of for years
Thanks Karl! But I hope my videos inspire you to get out on your own adventures as well buddy.
@@Adventureman_Dan won't be long bro 👌
It is interesting to get an insight into what skills you have had to master and what discipline you must have to achieve your freedom.
Indeed! Though I don't consider myself a master. :)
I would have added a biodigester toilet, which will provide gas to cook and vertilizer for some small fruit trees in containers for a total off grid package.
Loved it!!!... and subscrived. Good job. Keep them coming and I'll keep them watching ;)
Will do buddy!
Yoo that part about personal cost was great.
Glad to hear it reached you Flint.
Excellent overview. Thank you. Be safe and enjoy every minute.
Love your style! Keep it up brotha! Very envious of the life u live!🤙🤙
Thanks! Will do!
Great video, lots of insightful information. Gotta check out more of your stuff. 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Glad to hear it. I hope you make it out.
Thanks for the info, I'm looking into this type of lifestyle freedom
Glad to hear!
Fantastic video! Very well done! Thank you!
Many thanks!
Right on, will do buddy.
Very inspiring I’m almost there, two three weeks away. Meanwhile this is maybe the best video I’ve seen on sailboat lifestyle and costs.
You can do it! Glad to gear you're inspired.
Man!!! This is an inspiration! Thank you for the video.
Thank you for the comment! :)
Really nice. I appreciate the advice!
Glad it was helpful!
Dear Dan, thanks for the very inspirational and informative vid. All the best to you and Fair Winds. Greets from beautiful sunny Greece.
So nice of you. Thank you.
This was a great video. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Right on buddy, thanks for all that. :)
Thanks for sharing! Would love to see you out here!
Launching Saturday after 9 months on the hard with my new 1981 Orion 27. This is the living free style I am growing into.

Good stuff Dan... excellent presentation of the essentials of the boating lifestyle ! Now for the spearfishing (love diving)
Can't tell for sure, but that looks like a 100 lb. White Sea Bass (maybe different name in NZ)
Yellowtail
Yeah probably not a 100lber. lol
This is a great video buddy. Very informative Nice one 😎
Glad you liked it!
What a great video! Wow so impressed with you and what you’ve done. Wow ❤
Thank you so much!
This is great information!!!! thank you man for sharing all this!
Glad you liked it!
If it wasn't for youtube, how would you go about financing this lifestyle? I get that it doesn't cost a lot of money, but it does cost some.
I wrote up a list a ways back and should put in the effort in making a video about it. Because this is a frequent question that would help a lot of people.
@@Adventureman_Dan Hell yeah! I would love if you did so. Where did you write it, say?
soo amazing!! thankk you for sharing this! excellent for a beginner guide
Glad to liked it!
just got me a morgan out islander 41 CC ketch , im going through this shit too. the rigging and setting up for full time off grid.. lots and lots and lots more monies to do this on hired help.. im already working one job, so i hire all my work to be done.. i got maybe a year or two left to set free for good..
Perfect, good stuff!
Glad you think so!
God bless you in your journey
Thank you!
First time stumbling across your channel. Very interested in trying this in the near future.
Welcome aboard!
There are a few greens powders you could also try.
been wanting a live aboard for years, came extremely close once on a 40ft missed out on it by 3grand, if you're ever in naasau, i would love to kiteboard with ya, i know all the good spots
Cheers buddy, sounds good.
Sprouts are a great idea! Such an easy thing to grow. But the potential negatives always freak me out
So true!
Great video thankyou. I like the factual detailed approach.
Glad to you liked it buddy!
Right down to Earth, there. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
i gave myself a 10 year goal to be on a Caterman off the grid. i'm ready for it Dan.
I've been living on boats for years, this was a good video. But I'm surprised you didn't mention how you deal with trash, especially in the Bahamas. Also, boat insurance and laundry. Good job!
awesome Dan....thank you
Glad you liked it!
This is a great share, thank you!
Glad you like it!
Amazing and I love your content and editing style! Your content is fairly different from other sailing channels
Glad you enjoy it! I try to set myself apart.
