@@bigboy8474 Haha most missionaries gain weight and lose a lot of fitness on their missions. Depends on how the two years go but isn't a "leg up" on the competition in my opinion.
@Clark Harney If people haven't been on a mission, they don't understand just how little opportunity there is for training. You often get physical exercise in the form of walking and/or riding a bike, but it's really low-level and limited by the fitness of your assigned missionary companion. Most people end up gaining a decent amount of weight. All that said, there certainly is the benefit of added maturity, and, I suspect, the body appreciates the time to recover and is perhaps more resilient to injury with the extra two years. So, it's definitely got positive and negative aspects to it. But it's certainly not easy, and there are many, many athletes at BYU who leave on missions and are just never the same after coming back.
Don't be a slave to the news and the federal government. Go outside and run. Don't wear a mask, carry one with you and put it on if you have to enter a store or crowd.
I was a sprinter when I ran track and a D1 football player. I have had a lot of good coaches but this man knows how to get the most out of his athletes . Always positive and uplifting.
2 main takeaways: 1.) Ed Eyestone is an amazing coach. It’s obvious how much he cares about the success of each and every guy on the team. 2.) Connor Mantz has insanely good form. His core stays totally solid, and his knee drive and hip extension are both almost perfect
That's funny. My main takeaways were: 1) This video didn't need to be 25 mins long 2) Mantz's arm swing is asymmetric...which causes his torso to rotate more that necessary. His right arm moves forward as if he were a sprinter but his left arm sometimes swings completely across the body. The guy in the white shorts running with him on the last 2 intervals has better form. Also, he's arrogant talking about he likes to get into other people's heads because it's fun LOL He's probably including his teammates since he mentioned day-to-day thoughts while running
I play football, have no interest in XC, and will never understand why someone would make themselves run this much but yet I still find myself here and am somewhat interested 🤣
runner's high is a big motivator for me. Feels like death to run like this, but the satisfaction that hits 30 seconds after a workout makes it worth it.
Mlacodalia 15 I agree with running addict’s comment but would add that an important buzz comes from just “running on auto pilot” at speed and enjoying the fact that your body is strong and efficient enough to do it. I used to run at this sort of pace at school, and I remember that it just felt good to run fast and not get that tired. Wish I could say the same these days...but at 52, just running sub 4min 1ks seems about as much as I can handle.
help me get 600 subs by tomorrow It’s nothing special, but a consistent, well planned, 6 month training cycle will make you run times you never thought possible beforehand. The starting point isn’t important; the destination is what matters

alongside Kipchoge, Bekele and Gebreselassie , he is indeed the only runner I know with perfect running form. Just perfect. So beautiful. I cannot understand all those coaches coaching runners with poor forms. There are so many of them and it is so easy to improve motion patterns! I give biomechanic workshops full-time and I am in awe of how many fast runners there are - especially on the women's side - with disastrous form. They have such huge engines but do nothing with them.

If a missionary served in a foreign mission (about 50%), there is even less opportunity. Any kid who takes a break for 2 years from lifting, trained running, diet control, etc. will tell you there is no benefit athletically to the mission lifestyle.
