@@2011hwalkerYou should be confident in your ability to reach your potential. I guarantee Jakob has been confident to the point of delusion since he was a kid
As someone who competed in track in the 60’s, I barely recognize the sport now. The training is so precise and measured. Comparatively speaking we were more or less clueless. Still love the sport.
You paved the way. Check out the coffee club podcast if you don't already. It will remind you of vintage running culture. My 82 year old friend Smitty, loves that podcast. He is an old ultramarathoner from Alaska.
You guys were still running crazy fast times though, especially when you look at the track and equipment quality. Seb Coe was running faster, for the most part, in the 70’s and 80’s, than the guys are now.
Jakob is an extreme example of this. The Norwegians do this the most but not everyone trains like this these days. Although the Norwegian method is proving to be very effective.
They are not open or accessible at all. See sweat elite, there are so many hoops that people have to go through just to make things like this happen. Flotrack getting this access is a loss not a win for our sport.
I loved that when he said "One perk of being a runner, Getting high everyday" Whenever I have to go for a run in the morning there are 2 stages. 1. where I feel terrible not wanting to move out of bed feeling sad and thinking is it even worth it? then there is a second stage and this starts when I complete my morning run, I would be smiling, feeling so happy relaxed, everything seems more beautiful from birds chirping to people walking or running, the smell of the air and the feel of the grass, the sun on my face and the chillz of the morning cold air. That's an insane workout at sea level, never mind at Flag. I can't imagine he's anywhere near recovered after only a minute on those 400s. A workout like that at altitude is downright panic inducing as you try to catch your breath. I guess that's why he's the Olympic champion. In any case, really cool to see Jakob on WW and to get this level of insight into his training.
That is the Flagstaff High School track. My old elementary school is on the other side of that baseball field fence, Marshall Elementary. Impressive session by Jakob Ingebrigtsen! Altitude training in Flagstaff at 6,932 feet is no joke. Those 12x400m and 10x200m intervals show his dedication and skill. Thanks for sharing, FloTrack! 🏃♂💪 #TrainWithCOROS #AltitudeTraining #OaxSport
At the pace he was running he needed more than 400 meters to raise his heart rate to the level it can reach at such pace. If he ran 800 meter repeats at the same pace, each repeat would probably end with a higher heart rate.
Love Jakob! Even though he lost today only just to Kerr, what’s exciting is Jakob is not at his best and is running at 80%. Can’t wait till France, he’s got my vote all the way 🎉
Yep Time (of lap) indicates the external physical load, and blood lactate indicates the internal physiological load, those parameters are important for obtein the optimal load session... especially some internal load current parameter. The splits are crazy knowing that the 400s should be at "threshold". He ran 64 and 61 for the first two and even crazier is his avg heartrate of 135 and 147 in these two reps 🤯
He said "threshold plus", so I don't think those reps were at threshold pace/effort, especially considering altitude. I'm sure the max HR of most of the reps went well above threshold.
