I know Hunter tends to get comedically taunted by everyone in the show but it’s honestly really sad how much he’s been through at such a young age, so much we haven’t even seen. I’d honestly say he’s been through more abuse then anyone else in the show, and even then he’s probably got off the better then any other grimwalker since he actually managed to get away from Belos. I really hope we get a good, serious scene in season 3 where he talks about his issues with Luz, Gus or Willow. I’d love a scene in the show to play out like what happened here where it’s Luz, she was the first to see how bad it was for Hunter and I’d like to see her comfort him. Very good animatic, very well done, good job.
Well, I think a situation where Hunter has to talk out his problems with Amity would make a lot of sense as well. In Eclipse Lake, she was the one who got an insight into Hunter's character and his problems, and found out that they are very similar. Amity could have that empathy for Hunter in Season 3.
when you mentioned that he was the only grimwalker to escape belos (as far as we know) now I think Belos might make another one?? that would be cool to see and even more trauma for hunter LOL RIP

Holy shit this is phenomenal- 2:19 Hunter's reaction to the "blood" made my heart sink. The initial shock cutting to past traumas and what Belos did/was going to do to him. His mind jumping between that to still being horrified to have watched a death, regardless how much Belos has hurt him... g o d That was portrayed so damn well
2:17-2:41 OUCCHHH. First of all, all that being part of a dream sequence until he wakes up paicked out of his mind is REALLY good storywise and hurts me in the right way. I love it so much but MAN does it hurt. And on that note, secondly, Hunter being the one to initiate the hug between him and Luz here REALLY HURTS. Because he hasn't allowed himself to open up to anyone really except for maybe Gus. (He trust Luz enough to do this with her and be vulnerable, just like with Gus in Labyrinth Runners.) Luz and Hunter are very much 2 sides of the same coin and she's also the only one who saw and experienced the traumatic events that he went through, from finding out he's a grimwalker, to realizing the person he idolized was nothing like he believed. Only they have that sort of closeness because they literally shared being in Belos/Phillip's head space and that is something they're going to remember for the rest of their lives. It's just done so well. 👏🏽👏🏽💕💕
this was so GOOD!!! I gotta come back and rewatch later with STudious Brain but your staging and camera angles- the use of Traumatic Flashbacks and i Cannot TELL You how far through the floor my jaw fell when Hunter was first 'teased' with the Golden Guard mask and it panned below to the pit. The entire sequence of Hunter's nightmare with Belos , I could feel my Own chest getting nervous with how Palpable that fear and dread felt . this animatic is EXCELLENT and i think i will watch it ten more times to re-experience all the Emotions that just devastated my whole being
0:50-0:54 OH THAT WAS SO SICK- 2:13-2:18 Again, absolutely sickening and beautiful- That whole ass nightmare montage was an award winning scene WHEN HE HUGGED LUZ I HONESTLY WANNA CRYYY 😭
God this is amazing, Hunter being shown the mask and the transition to the pit, the whole scene of Hunter and other coven members going up the Knee, his face when one of them falls, god this is so good! The poses and expressions are wonderful!
It breaks my heart that Hunter had to go against ALL of what he did and the people he met. Especially when he spent most of his life as the Golden Gaurd.😢
This animatic does an excellent job at highlighting Hunter's substained innocence even with his coven childhood: chasing after birds and even smiling and waving at the winged visitor in the aftermath of patching himself up....only faltering when it can fly away and he can't follow. I think Hunter must have looked out that window to the outside world alot over the years, looking at what he's locked away from, especially since it was highlighted at the end of Hunting Palismen...
Holy shit it’s perfect. The song, the timing, the frames, it’s beautiful and GENIOUS AND PERFECT. A preacher loosing faith in their god because their god does nothing about evil and aren’t as great as the preacher originally thought they were. And the transition from belos to the monster in “I’m struggling to see the plan in your! Maj-es-ty!” ITS PERFECT IT GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS
I don't know much about animation and I don't usually write comments like this but this... this is kinda special. Omg, it's super cool! I don't know what I should say, I Just Like it! I like this great atmosphere of the mountain, when Hunter wants to rush to the guard, but he is held back, and you understand that someone (it's Steve, it's definitely Steve!) is taking care of him. The shot of all the rookies walking down conveys the desperation, the horror of this situation, and I'm in awe of the transition from a dying guard (rookie? apprentice? recruit? whatever) to a gold guard with a bloody mask. the only negative is the music, my taste in music is very specific so I couldn't enjoy the musical accompaniment. But that didn't stop me. It's just...perfect why people can't properly rate it. I apologize in advance for any mistakes, English is not my native language and I'm not very good with animation.

i feel like its overlooked the fact that the scouts had to undergo traumatic "basic training" like most of these people probably died in less than a day but hunters rose colored trauma filter brands it as nostalgia but its kinda just ptsd his brain is trying to cope with
I felt so much watching this. I truly felt his fear and I just still feel it...I- just the waking in cold sweet and crying from ptsd is just so relatable for me and the feeling of wanting to hug someone in that moment and break down in more tears... I just wish I had someone there like that...

I remember seeing a bit of this on Tumblr and seeing the full thing is amazing! The way you do transitions and storytelling through the song is just wonderful. And the transition to the pit of masks is 😭👌 Absolutely adore the ending of Luz giving this boy some comfort, he def needs it.

I loved how it all encompassed to Hunter dreaming because one of the few people he could trust was there in the room. There is still some doubt in the back of his mind like you've expressed in one of the panel's and I thought that was absolutely brilliant!

And when at the end when Hunter was having a nightmare about Belos and he woke up to Luz and started crying, that almost made ME cry! I've re-watched it a bunch and it never gets old. I love it! This is really awesome and really well made, and I know I already said that, but it's that good! You're really good at this!
Wow. That's the only thing I can unironically say. The animation was like a funnel, smoothing out and focusing the condensed feelings and messages and story of Hunter's life. The music was form fitting, played with passion, pain, and purpose, like a dirge tailored with the discipline taught by abuse. Ironically, my first reaction was "Holy shit," then "Jesus Christ." It's as if Catholicism is so far reaching even our swears are minced oaths. I know this is a bit preachy, maybe pretentious, but these remarks come from a place of enamorment in the story and worlds of this show, so please don't roast me too hard for this cringe comment.
