The events in "Mr greg" was only possible because the distance between both. At that point is more a development for Pearl than Greg. It's not like an scene of mutual development where bot learn something to each other because Greg works as a wise man for Steven when the others fail.
As a bisexual individual myself, I can clearly see Pearl being bi but more lesbian leaning. Even if pearl has feelings for Greg she doesn't know how to address it.
That's a good point. There's no reason to assume every bisexual is going to be equally attracted to both men and women. Hell, I prefer women myself, but that doesn't invalidate any relationships with men.
Welllll I mean the Era 1 Gems' ability to shapeshift gives a bit of weight to it.... not to mention the countless AU's giving the Era 2 ones that ability, mmmhmmm
Oh, let me tell you about a story from the 30s called The Dunwich Horror by HP Lovecraft. Now, normally, there isn't much shipping in these old stories because there aren't any women. This is possibly the first Western example of a woman being shipped with a tentacle monster. And they have kids. Apparently in a letter to Clark Ashton Smith, he described the logistics of that last point. There is a movie, but it's terrible.
I really don't care. I've seen weirder ships. And I don't see why the creator of the show cannot ship their own characters. Eh. Whatever. It's exhausting.
Probably mainly the headache since as Rebecca said there was a lot of biphobia in the fandom back then. The SU fandom was (I don’t know about now) very toxic in the past. So Rebecca probably didn’t want to deal with the anger and headaches it might have lead to. I don’t blame Rebecca if that’s what caused the idea to not happen in the end.
Honestly, as someone who has dealt with a lot of grief in their life, I can absolutely see Greg and Pearl having a messy situation-ship after Rose's formation into Steven. Being able to find solace in each other as they go through the same grief for the same loved one would absolutely be something that could realistically happen. Grief is often said to be love without a place to go, so it being redirected at one another, I could see it happening. In the early days after Steven's birth especially, I personally don't think it would have been more than just them taking comfort in one another's embrace, but it very well could have developed into more after they reconciled. Grief is incredibly difficult to go through and deal with, I can only imagine Greg and Pearl would want to share their experiences and bond over Rose and how important she was in their lives, and that very well could have created a bond deeper than friendship after a while. People often forget that sexuality is fluid and can change at any point as you realize more and more about yourself, and especially so for a gem from space that probably doesn't have the same rigidity toward sexual orientation as we do. We create labels and boxes for ourselves in an attempt to understand who we are better, but they aren't as rigid as people think. Pearl being bisexual with a preference for women would absolutely make sense as well given that she is from a planet of traditionally femme presenting space rocks. I prefer how the show ended with Greg and Pearl just having a platonic relationship, but I GregxPearl is honestly not the most out there ship at the end of the day.
as much as i like my queer rocks i feel like pearl and greg coming together through there past and present to spark a relationship that benifits steven and them both
They are friends or co-parents, they mainly hang out or show concern for the other if it has to concern Steven, other than that they are civil and respected each other's space and privacy.
Pearl also could very well be bi with a preference for women . That’s another thing about bisexuality that ppl ignore, some have a preference for one or the other, whether it be based on experience or otherwise .
That crackship tiktok is so funny and such a mood for fans of crackships honestly. I agree that these probably shouldn't have seen the light of day. You shouldn't put someone else's brainstorming and rough drafts out without permision. Watched through to the end. It must have been rough for Rebecca with the amount of biphobia in the fandom and people on the storyboard team (possibly) shooting down bi rep in the show on top of that. I'm glad she got to see some cool bi headcanons for various characters. I love that she stood up for peoples interpretations/headcanons of the characters and relationships. So often in fandom spaces people use canon couples as a way to completely invalidate headcanons and storylines and possibilities of other relationships that are also meaningful and its so tiring.
Can't really see a romance with his RIP wife's ex being a great story idea with the kid still being in the picture lol. I'd rather suspect these were sketches made for fun and memes if anything. Or some people like to imagine characters interacting with each other im scenarios not related to the canon story, as it helps them write the characters more believably. If Rebecca was able to imagine how the two would act if in love, it'll also help her imagining the beef they'll have instead hating each other. Or mayyybe these were some super early on concepts from before Pearl's relationship eith Rose and the story arch from "It's over isn't it" were fully established. Edit: That being said, I am very much looking forward to seeing more bi representation in the show if it's ever continued, just not sure about this one

If SU were to come back my vote is to make it an adult animated series centered around this pairing in particular.
@@unripetheberrby6283 I always thought that pairing was good for the episode they were doing in Future, but I'm not attached to them. Not as much story/drama potential as Pearl and Greg.
I'm not sure about it. The whole family dynamic will change. Pearl will move from "be a sister " to a "mother". A wall between pearl and the other gems will be builded. It changes everything around the key episodes like Rose Scarbard.

Why yes with Pearl and no with Amethyst? Because, in my pov , there's not a big difference.
Here’s the thing about gregxpearl: in future it’s low key implied that at least a reset pearl would’ve been in love with Greg. The way she acts around “my-um-greg-universe” and the duet kinda acts like this mini hint, and I think Mr.Greg and the intro (where she’s literally carrying him) have enough mini moments to hint it probably could’ve been a thing if the circumstances that potentially could’ve led to a relationship happened but it’s also something that would’ve taken Pearl and Greg time.

Well I knew about this ship's existence but getting a whole drawing from Rebecca was something new Steven universe is beyond just a kids show, if it was targeted for older audience I'm sure themes like this would be more openly discussed
I feel like they would possibly be a temporary couple but it wouldn’t go anywhere. Pearl and Bismuth are still the definitive couple in my book. Also it’s nice to know Pearl and Cinnabar fusing in my fanfic doesn’t completely go against this character. Especially because it’s more of a platonic style fusion like Smoky Quartz.
That's the point. From a writer perspective this doesn't feel correct. Or even with common sense. It doesn't really show here since people are tame compared to the other sites, but believe me when I say that a lot more people are mad about it. Both sides are deeply offended but one side is DEEPLY offended. Lots of other stuff too, but those are just the ones I remember recently.
@@SpinDualityI wish people could just be normal about this stuff. Like, bi and lesbian erasure are both actual things that are issues in media and fandom...but for the most part even if pearl was canonized as a lesbian, there's no harm in someone personally reading her as bi(it'd be suspicious if the person had a habit of saying they think all characters that are canonically lesbians are actually bi or something, but more often than not a couple of headcanons that are well spread out are just someone projecting on a character they like and should be seen as harmless). Not all headcanons have to be Canon compliant. There's a degree of discretion people should use, but honestly the point of leaving those things not explicitly stated is often intentionally to leave things up to the interpretation of the audience so the audience can engage in headcanons freely without people trying to weaponize canon stuff against them. And if you're really uncomfortable with someone else's interpretation of a character? Block them. Don't engage with that content. Find people with more similar headcanons and interpretations to you. Sometimes there really are social issues underlying our interactions in fandom space, but you can't solve them by yourself so curate your spaces and keep your peace. I can think of at least a couple characters I love but my interpretation isn't the common interpretation and I have blocked many people who don't know I exist, who I can't even remember the name/profile of, because they have strong feelings about the character I disagree with. It's not going to affect you in real life if someone online doesn't have the same opinions as you do about a character or series or ship, but it will negatively affect you to get worked up about it. A lot of people are taking the whole thing too seriously. I've seen both sides up in arms over a variety of things at different times and I just wish people had better things to do with themselves. And engagement drives algorithms so people end up in a negative feedback loop. It's miserable and pointless.
Well the appeal of Pearl x Greg ship and how it could work at all comes down to trauma bonding. The question i wan the answer to is if it is healthy in real life. If in the future writers would go down this road, i hope theywon't be blindly romanticizing this idea the same way the internet shippers are.
I thought he was finna show the art on the video *sigh* but you know what I'm such an AwestuckVox fan I enjoyed every single second of your reaction and analysis haha!
I can see Greg with a guy based on the zoo interactions and for Pearl well honestly I could see her with Greg I mean if I'm going to be honest I have friends who actually bonded over having the same ex and are now currently married it's not far-fetched as one might think
I'm enjoying seeing the alternative ships coming out that was probably thought about behind the scenes or in the making. We already have the canon ships established what's the problem? It's definitely got the su fandom buzzing again which is always neet when that happens like gravity falls having a small come back. Am enjoying the what if messy ship drama with the gems. Amethyst and Sadie was a surprise. Pearl and Greg can kinda see that as a possibility from that one ep but more as a rebound sort of fling that happened from grief.
Rebecca Sugar once drew a sketch of K.O. and Dendy kissing. On the lips. Yeah, I can believe these are real. And then there's the Amethyst and Sadie drawings.
I saw a comment on tiktok that I think can explore concepts of relationships like this in a more adult/mature way. Steven Universe is in the perspective of Steven only and how he viewed the world as a child growing up. You could have a series that takes place before future (or even before the events of the original series) that gives a spotlight to the side character to explore these messy relationships and how they became the characters hey are in the original show. I think Amethyst story (from what I can see from the sketches) follows a very important dynamic of trying to connect with others and make the people around her happy with shape shifting into people the other person cares for to get closer emotionally (they even tease this idea when amethyst transforms into rose in front of Greg and he pleads he can't go through "this" again). The other being Pearl and Greg trauma bonding over the lost of Rose and how the dynamic of their relationship sours and eventually builds back up. You could show how Pearl slowly finds herself exploring her own sexuality and accepting herself and Greg trying to become a father without having an anchor (Rose) being able to help his alien son. I think the idea creates many different possibilities for all these characters and you could even include other characters and how they explore trauma on a much more poignant level. Steven's story is pretty conclusive but I think there's options to explore the other gems
Its honestly not surprising at all to me, the two of them have a very fun dynamic and they cover each other well when it comes to Steven. I think the movie tapped a bit into that energy as well.
I haven’t seen the sketches and I’m gonna keep it that way considering what I’ve heard from fans and well…this video 😅 (great as always btw) Honestly I like the ship but still advocating on Pearl and Bismuth if we get a series revival.
Hot take: what we call biphobia in queer fandom is less of a phobia of bisexuality (though it is absolutely real), and more of a frustration with a media environment that constantly queerbaits with ambiguous characters, then suddenly makes them straight whenever corporate pressure or the political environment makes it convenient to hide the character’s unconfirmed queerness. And then we never get them back. I think there’s a way around this, though- if you want a bi character, you’re just going to have to be unambiguous when writing them (for example, Marceline from AT in later seasons). I get the fear of depicting a character being openly bi, but we at least need to see flirting with or attraction to men, women, andor nonbinary people. Whenever I see those types of interactions left up to interpretation, it makes me uneasy because now I have to wonder if I’m being queerbaited. SU was full of those kinds of scenes, but after Garnet’s reveal, I was definitely less suspicious of being queerbaited. All this said, interpreting most of the SU cast as bisexual genuinely does make a lot of sense, and I wouldn’t blame anyone for not picking up on that, or the creators who felt the pressure not to be so open about it. I feel we were very lucky to get the show as it is. And any small-f future SU? I fully expect nothing less than unmitigated bi chaos. pls
"We've been advocating for a revival." We have?? I certainly haven't. The show is complete and done and I think it went on for plenty long enough. I certainly don't want to see a half-assed injection into that corpse.
Something I love about the colours that Pearl and Greg turn during Both Of You is that, with the context of who Rose Quartz was, it feels like it could even be Pink Diamond's feelings toward Blue and Yellow as much as it was Steven/Rose about P+G.
i believe the storyboard writer. the show had a trajectory but i remember a shift occurred and then suddenly the show started down what i believe was a different path to the original plans. can't recall where in the show atm i'd have to rewatch but it was pretty obvious since the content of episodes changed so drastically.
Yeah... Let's be honest, girls do strange things sometimes. Specially with hormones involved. Don't mind to much on it... they are humans, imperfect humans who commit mistakes .

It's not like an scene of mutual development where bot learn something to each other because Greg works as a wise man for Steven when the others fail.

I hope not
I really don't care.
I prefer how the show ended with Greg and Pearl just having a platonic relationship, but I GregxPearl is honestly not the most out there ship at the end of the day.
as much as i like my queer rocks i feel like pearl and greg coming together through there past and present to spark a relationship that benifits steven and them both
bi is still queer
"What does the B in lgbt stand for then....Bionicle!?!"
Thats pretty much what it was, there are a bunch of super random sketches from people that worked on SU, mwinly rebeca
@@ks58843 true.

A reseted Pearl does its thing: to serve her master.
Considering the implied similarities between Greg and rose...maybe pearl just has a type?

I was always into Greg and Pearl having a connection via grief - a lot of older folks who are widowed, which they both are more or less tbh, get together with other widowers because they understand that magnitude of loss. I get why it would be wildly unpopular or uncomfortable for some fans though.
Whenever I see something Steven universe related I always get hyped like “omg is the show coming back” but I’m always happy to see anything Steven universe related. This also makes me wonder if they were able to do anything they wanted with the series, how would it turn out.
I saw Sparks between the two and I actually kind of hope they would end up together. They both have a love of Stephen, rose, and deeply share an emotional bond with them.❤

Also it’s nice to know Pearl and Cinnabar fusing in my fanfic doesn’t completely go against this character. Especially because it’s more of a platonic style fusion like Smoky Quartz.
That's the point. From a writer perspective this doesn't feel correct. Or even with common sense.
I'm also a fanfic writer, i also try what Rebecca do... is doomed, is strange, toxic , irresponsibly and self-destructive. It share a lot of pain to everyone around. (Just add another trauma to the list of Steven's trauma).

@@cluckcluckchicken I'm bi and even I read her as a lesbian
@@cluckcluckchicken Comes from the fact that people are mad Rebecca Sugar drew Pearl and Greg together and they were mad about it. It doesn't really show here since people are tame compared to the other sites, but believe me when I say that a lot more people are mad about it. Saying stuff like, lesbian erasure, 'Pearl is canonically lesbian', sending actual hate to the creator again, saying it's hate against lesbians to like the ship, or even straight saying that Rebecca Sugar just made Pearl straight.
Gosh, the Fandom is so dramatic. Who cares about some sketches the creator made with their OWN characters
I personally don't really mind the concept art since I know it is probably a crackship at best and shouldn't be taken very seriously. ❤
Honestly, given the fan art of this unique couple I could see this.
Well the appeal of Pearl x Greg ship and how it could work at all comes down to trauma bonding. The question i wan the answer to is if it is healthy in real life. If in the future writers would go down this road, i hope theywon't be blindly romanticizing this idea the same way the internet shippers are.

I haven’t seen the sketches and I’m gonna keep it that way considering what I’ve heard from fans and well…this video 😅 (great as always btw)
Honestly I like the ship but still advocating on Pearl and Bismuth if we get a series revival.
I think the love triangle was done well because it builds tension and drama but also character development.
