The sad thing is most British people know nothing about the British Empire because it is very deliberately not taught in British schools, because there is no national pride in learning that Britain was the greatest parasite nation in human history and all their wealth comes from stealing from their colonies. So they are used to a romanticised fantasy version of the British Empire in movies like Zulu, that makes British colonialism of stealing people’s land, wealth and resources look heroic. So when these British guys a confronted with a more truthful less heroic representation of the British Empire, you can see it leaves them uncomfortable, because white people tend to bury history where they are the villains.

The British initially just wanted to trade and buy pepper, because it got more expensive in Spain. But then they realised that the Indians don't have weapons, but the country was quite rich. They had gold in the walls of their temples. So the British just raided the temples . And took India.
British Capitalism conquered India. The East India Company abused a royal charter for trade to maximize profit. Much of parliament was bought off and it wasn’t until the company ruined India that the upper government and crown stepped in.
The word great in Great Britain is the same as the word greater in Greater Manchester. It's describing the fact that the combination of England, Wales, and Scotland creates the larger area of land called Britain. The word greater is often used to describe extended geographical areas that are influenced by another area (e.g. in culture or economy). There's even a Greater India. Obviously, that kind of description wouldn't get a lot of laughs.
