1700miles in a Tiny Speedboat - Part7 - Lundy
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 січ 2021
- We're attempting to go around the UK in a tiny rigid inflatable speedboat from 1976. It's a very long way and we don't really know what we're doing but hopefully learning the ropes along the way. How hard can it be?
In this episode from mid-summer we pick up where we left off, leaving St Ives on the North coast of Cornwall and heading East towards Devon and Lundy Island. The weather turned out to be rather unpredictable and my co-driver for this episode had rather a bad case of the seasickness.
Places we visit in this episode:
St Ives, Newquay, Port Quin, Tintagel, Lundy Island, Clovelly and Ilfracombe.
You might be wondering what the delightful piano accompaniment is in this episode, composer Angus MacRae has written an entire score called the Goodwin variations inspired by the original theme tune.
Here he is on UA-cam: / angusmacrae
You can listen to the score on Soundcloud: / the-goodwin-variations

The boat is an Avon Searider SR4 rigid inflatable and only 4m long with a 30hp honda four stroke outboard. It has seen a lot of action but is still going strong. Hopefully a lot more banging to come. - Наука та технологія
Who needs the BBC when you have beautifully fillmed content like this 👍
My sentiments exactly
Stop crying about the BBC. If you don't like it then don't pay the license fee.
In the good old days (obviously not in Yorkshire...) this would have been independently produced and shown on the BBC. We can all hanker for it, my mum and dad told me to watch only BBC and not that terrible ITV. And probably that’s still the way I feel some 55 years on...
Exactly what I was thinking, love these videos
Because they are completely different non competing things
Can we all give a like to the guy in the Land Rover discovery who always helps with the towing around :)
Probably round all of the country love him for making this possible without most of the fun
Is that not Harry's brother?
Impressive lamb chops too!
Strange comment
@@derektrotter4287 ?
This is the best travelogue about the UK anybody has ever made
I agree - hoping it gets a proper TV airing. It deserves it
Just found it....what a treat
yep - 2 years later and it still is , fantastic series !
I just love this series... never knew the UK coast was this beautiful. Harry should receive an award from the UK Tourism Board! 😂👍
and the Queen !
When that music kicks in I'm in heaven ! what an amazing Island we live on. I take it Harry is inline to be Knighted ? somebody have a word for goodness sake... :)
It's like finding a wrapped present under the tree on Twelfth Night.
My son has been pestering me for months "Has he posted the next power boat video yet?"
Bedtime viewing sorted
I'm intrigued as to how you're going to cover the Highlands & Islands, and the Isle of Man. There's a lot of coast line to cover north of the Mersey
That lighthouse concert was incredible!😂
Sam has some serious pipes!!
They’ve always said that lighthouse keepers eventually go mad, but after only a few minutes the modern man followed in their footsteps 😳🥺😂
Powerboating and neo-Gregorian chanting in the same video
Don't underestimate how much these chronicled adventures mean to those that wait for and watch your journey. I've just a rubbish day that got better towards the end and now this update is my bedtime meditation.
I think this is probably my favourite UA-cam series. Thank you.
Me too. Made my evening to see this new one posted :)
Did you start from the beginning when Harry was Gifted Goodwin after foam mining?
@@fastasfox haven’t deliver that far back - just done the journey so far :)
I agree 100% whenever I see a new episode I stop what I'm doing and watch it with a mug of tea. I love it . Music makes me cry it's so emotional and uplifting. Go Harry !!❤
Hope our camping advice helped! Safe trip guys🤙🏽
Ahh it did indeed! Also good anchoring advice after we hit the bottom.
@@harrydwyer I had visions of another prop replacement, with the two of you camped on the cliff until DPD could deliver a fresh one to the slipway. Do you carry a spare?
@@harrydwyer I've just brought a bungee anchor line from Boatworld. Not tried it yet but the idea is you drop the bungee line with anchor off the stern 20m from the shore, then slowly motor onto the beach(remembering to lift the OB before it gets too shallow ;-) ) secure the bow line with a land stake and then once disembarked with all of your kit hold on to the bow line whilst the bungee pulls the vessel back out into deeper water. Once in a safe place secure the bow line again back to the land stake and Voila! Boat should now be safely anchored up just off shore. Then when ready to depart simply pull the boat back toward you using the bow line, jump in, let the bungee pull you back to a safe distance to drop the OB again and finally retrieve the anchor :-) As I said I haven't tried it yet but cant wait till lockdown is lifted to give it a go. If you search on here for 'Bungee Anchor' there is a video of the guy demonstrating it. Good luck with the rest of the journey and wishing Goodwin and all who sail in her a safe passage.
@@simonfrewin5734 this sounds perfect! I need one! How long is the bungee?
@@harrydwyer I think they have a various sizes. The one I’ve got is 14ft stretching out to 50ft. Good luck on your adventures 👍
I've loved every one of this series and can't wait for the next one. The music is better than most documentaries and so atmospheric. The drone shots are fantastic and really make this stand out. Just a fantastic piece of artwork. Thanks.
With 3 months between episodes, it's a brilliant surprise when one pops up, and at the same time a little depressing knowing that we might have to wait 3 months for the next.
Harry -"Scotch egg?"
Sam - "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
He’s back. Looking forward to this!
Such a wonderful adventure and so good to see the British upholding their great maritime traditions.
Yeah, that little boat represents britain very well 😆
I always appreciate all the great drone footage. I also like how there’s lat least 4 stages of boating. Excitement, Dread, fun, and slogging through the waves.
I didn't think there would be another episode after the last one until next year, so it was great to see another one popup!. Great videoing, really interesting they are delight to watch and thanks for making them!.
It is next year
That hat/mask is incredibly practical. Wind burn, sun protection, hi viz and good looks all in one!
I was just wondering where you were . . . . Welcome back Harry!
When Sam started with the low rumbling in the light house, I thought for sure that he was going to start singing the Misty Mountains from The Hobbit.
Harry, this is brilliant mate. I have had small boats for nearly 30 years, mostly used up here for loch and coastal fishing, currently run a Whaly 370, probably the smallest boat I've owned but certainly the most robust, versatile and stable out the lot. When I've been out on the coast, I have often thought about whether or not I would be able to motor round the whole of Britain, what fuel I'd need, where I would stop, how long it would take me, what challenges would lie ahead, all that kind of stuff 😊 and here you are doing it😂 good on ya ! , I love it ! honestly bud, this makes top viewing, even my wife is hooked. I only found this by chance last week and it makes you just want to keep on watching, can't wait for the next instalment Harry :) I love the fact that you add in a dose of history to the event and tell us a bit about where you are and that you take different folk along with you for the ride, brilliant ! keep it up matey. PS We both have to laugh when you edit in little corrections to what you've said !! Oh and a big up to the guy in the Land Rover 😂 in fact, a great big up to all your support team 👍 take care, Jim (Castle Douglas) PPS When you get to this coast line within the Galloway coast area, let me know where you land, love to come down and hook up !
Great video/film Harry, enjoying it immensely right now. Would it be possible for you to post an episode overview in the video description of when (starting date and ending date) each episode was filmed?
Sykes is so right. This is a terrific set of films that showcase the beauty of the UK.
Stumbled across this wonderful little series. Had been thinking of doing a round Ireland in my own rib for a while... now I'm definitely on for it! Fair play lads!!
Eagerly awaiting the resumption of this enthralling journey. Part 8 needed
I keep coming back to check for a new video lol. Never been this hooked on a series
It's unfathomable this channel still hasn't reached 100k subscribers. Fantastic content. Respect from Brasil
This is such a joy , wonderfully edited and thoughtfully put together. Nothing better then making adventures with your mates. Best series on UA-cam. On a side note , there are two types of sailors: the ones who touch rocks and the ones who lie that they haven’t ! :) look forward to the next trip !
Probably the best thing available to watch on the internet since the last episode...
YES! More interesting content with amazing cinematics and good background music - can't wait for the next episode.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos Harry HD Dwyer... what a caste of characters you dredge up! Sam has crazy pipes and i thought he'd crack glass in the lighthouse. I'll be aping an English accent for days. Crack on then.
Such a pleasure to adapt your theme and hear the Goodwin Variations accompanying your adventures, Harry! Great to have a little involvement in your amazing series. Keep it up!
Pt 8 already please!! The suspense is killing me!!!
This has made me thoroughly homesick for the SW. Beautiful, fun and inspiring film. Thanks guys
Amazing (unintentional) advert for British tourism!
glad your back! theres nothing quite like your content out there a nice balance of ambiance, information and excitement.
Without a doubt... this content and filming is worthy of prime time tv in the same flavour as somewhere at sea with Tim Spall.
Im absolutely loving what you do and really hope you continue another series after you finish this one..
Hands down, this is quite possibly the best uk round trip series I have EVER seen. Really amazing. I think at the end of this you mighy get quite emotional, because this will be quite life changing for you.
I will be emotional, and will have a lot more grey hair.
It must be getting close to resuming the adventure 🤞🙏👍
Scotsman living in US, I am excitedly waiting for you to get the Hebrides. Keep up the fantastic series.
O my god! My face just lit up. Best lousy weather Sunday gift. Going to make a lunch and watch this
That poor bugger looked miserable. He ain’t ever boating again.
@@beachcomberz Probably true, but OMG if he never had the best mask you've ever seen in your entire life! So much better with the sun glasses I thought 😎🤣😜
Oh yes! Gonna crack open a beer and settle in with my favourite series on UA-cam!
Absolutely lovely. Lighthouse acoustics were brilliant. My favourite thing on the internet.
Great trip. Beautiful video
You’re making the finest content on UA-cam at the moment. Thank you for all you put into these episodes.
Imho this was the best hat so far. Not only in terms of looks but also practicality.
The most intelligent, authentic and charming series anywhere- never mind just on UA-cam. Brilliant editing, and fascinating content. It'll be a long wait until the next HD upload notification :(
Such a wonderful adventure, I had no idea how beautiful this trip would be
Another amazing slice of your adventure. This is exactly the get-away content I need to watch right now. Sorry that you're back under lock down and hope we can all be back to adventuring again soon.
More to come!
I loved the bit in the Old Light lighthouse. I found it very endearing.
Fantastic. 🇨🇦 Hello from Canada
This travelogue is better and useful than £500k TV program 👍👏
Lovely to see you out and about again. I really like your casual and humourus attitude. I enjoyed this video particurlarly much, as I have been walking all the coastline that you now passed by boat up to Westward Ho! Except from Lundy, which is on my bucket list 😊
In 1974 or 75 before breaking up for the 6 weeks holiday from school, we were all herded into the school hall to have announcements made and films to watch. This film was called RIDE THE WHITE HORSES and it was about these fast speed boats with 3 and 4 Mercury outboard engines onthe back of each one. The race was the total circumference of the British Isles. It was a great film at 9 or 10 yrs old. I've not watched it since. Perhaps I should. Anyway your endeavour made me think of it... Good memories.
Oh yes, it's a classic: ua-cam.com/video/N1ieTqVy5MA/v-deo.html
Your films really embody what it is to be a live. Love it and can't wait for the next one.
It´s an very fine trip, we enjoy every episode give us the next one.......
It’s a quality and genuine production Harry, well done!
Looking forward to episode 8! No doubt waiting for warmer weather.
The UK is a stunningly beautiful country!
I've just watched all 7 episodes on the bounce... What an adventure so far! I know this might not be the appropriate word to use when we're talking inflatable boats but I'm hooked.
Love it guys, I'm guessing covid is the culprit for the delay of the next leg of the journey.
I've just bought a small boat and you've given me some serious inspiration. Cheers for the content and keep it up when you can 👍
43:14 I finally understand the term, Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
Yes! Thank you for another video. Definitely enjoying the series.
A nicely put together series showing what's possible with enthusiasm and a little help from your friends. I hope you are able to complete the full circumnavigation. Like many others, I'm looking forward to the next instalment.
We like Rob, and the cheery skipper of Oldenburg ! 👍
Yes! So excited for this. Thank you for sharing such an incredible adventure with us!

whats not to love about another episode of this classic series. Thanks!
Absolutely love this. Please keep going, it’s amazing.
Made my day. Thanks, roll on part 8 it's just what we need to give us that sence if space as we approach lockdown 3. One of the things that struck me after lockdown 1 was seeing the horizon for the first time in ages.
Loved the latest instalment, great storytelling and editing.
Every once in a while another episode pops into my watch list. Always enjoyable and a welcome tonic. Thanks.
Been waiting for this! Love the series
That little Goodwin is a trooper
