Very good stuff here but you're basically just swapping out parts until it turns back on. Most people don't have a spare power supply laying around and if you do this a lot I'm sure you know by now you probably should have went ahead and tested the motherboard on its box, especially since you already had a power supply sitting out..

Some PC could shut down due to static changes when your hand is only touching the power button to the PC that’s made of plastic. This happened to my PC two weeks ago - dead, from one day to the next. When switching on the fans ran for ten seconds and then nothing. The Asus Mainboard H97M-E did not even boot to the bios. I tried many things but when it came to investing larger sums for new hardware, I gave up. This is only worth it if the PC is still new. And then there is usually still a warranty on the machine.

first-time builder here, I've gone through all these steps and different variations of these steps. I can only get to post with one RAM stick in the manufacturers suggested single stick slot. If I have two in the suggested slots it will not get to post. I think I can count out a short from the case because I can get there with the one stick. You guys definitely thinking bad mobo?
@@UltimateTechHub Hey thanks for the quick reply, it goes to the American megatrends screen where it will say that I have 8 GB of RAM, processor, etc and then hit f2 or whatever to BIOS. I actually haven't entered BIOS yet, I have been stopping there and testing Rams etc I really think it's the slot on the motherboard. one other thing is that I've tried different slots with the RAM and it will only boot in that suggested single slot. Also when I reseated everything I noticed The stick of RAM that was in there was out just a hair from its clip. I retested all the RAM , it didn't hurt the stick but I'm thinking that there may have been some damage done to the slot. I have not tried cleaning with an eraser mainly because it was brand new.
@@Windowlesswhitevan ok and you tried to boot with each individual RAM stick? Just want to make sure both RAM sticks are good. If you can boot with each RAM stick but not both then yes I would say its the MOBO RAM slot that's bad. However if one of sticks does not work then its a bad RAM stick. I would check the RAM slot for damage and or dirt. Maybe blow a little compressed air into the slot.
@@UltimateTechHub yeah I got four sticks I ordered a set of replacements in case I needed them before I got the test and yes all four wheel boot in that manufacturer suggested single slot setup. This helps a lot thank you my prebuilt cyberpower pc was having issues after a year of use which are commonly known for using horrible power supplies my monitor kept freezing and shutting off and my computer would stay on only way to fix it was to shut it off fully and turn it back on I switched the monitor out thinking that would fix it but no so I switched out the power supply and there was a burn on the internals of the power supply so I switched it out and put a new one in the issue is still here but doesn't do it as often so I think it's my motherboard like I said before this helps a lot. (If anyone knows that it could be other components please let me know).
I'm hoping it's not a dead motherboard. I think I'll try removing the motherboard's battery and see if that fixes it. It's quite crazy, it was working perfectly until yesterday, i unplugged it after shutting it down yesterday, and all of a sudden it was making this weird noise when turning it on today, so i thought my power supply was probably dead, swapped the power supply, removed my GPU just to see if i could get an image out of the APU, and still nothing... Fans are spinning, and my motherboard's lights are on... Weird issue, but hopefully one of this things will work and i won't have to get a new motherboard -_-
Thank you so much, I tried to do a Bios upgrade but when I pressed M-Flash to start the upgrade my monitor turned black, I just let it rest for hours but it was still black. I unplugged the battery from the motherboard for 3 minutes and plugged it in back again and it all started working again. Thank you so much I was scared.
I have a question this morning my pc will not turn on, its not receiving any power lights or case fans wont spin.. i assume its either the psu or case itself... Im waiting on a new psu if thats not it ill bypass power button and check the case function.. is this the correct order for troubleshoot? Could you see anything else causing this issue?
@@UltimateTechHub the exact same thing is happening to me but I tested my psu and it works fine. If this is a motherboard problem, how do I know for sure?
Nice video, although I think I would test boot outside the case on the motherboard box and powering it on via the front panel pins with a screwdriver this would make sure it wasn't a metal contact issue, chances are the board is still okay. not 100% though just an idea for the future, but as you said the customer had a power surge so probably not.
When he mentioned the power surge and the amount of dust I pretty much figured MOBO failure. I cleaned the heck out of the case and the MOBO and used a stock SSD drive too. And nothing. But thanks for the great advice on boot outside of the case I have done that before but with this situation it was 99.99% the motherboard. Thanks for watching!!!!
we jus had a couple of power outages today from storms and it looks like I'm in the same boat. Tried all tips and last option is the main board. A replacement is on the way so well see.
Hello, I hope you check this comment. My pc shut down a couple of days ago and im trying to figure out what the problem is. I don't have an extra PSU nor a motherboard. Whenever I remove the CMOS Battery and put it back, I can go to the same screen at 4:53, I go into BIOS and save then restart - after that it goes back to being black screen. Is this the motherboard or the power supply? I hope you can help me.
I'm trying to find a solution to my Instability, I had a bios battery leak over my pcie slot and I feel that it has damaged my motherboard. i can only get a stable system when the gpu is in slot 2. Can someone please recommend how to find a solution please, Great video Btw
Have an issue with my current rig. I think it the motherboard failing cause sometimes my PC won't turn on at all andi have to fill the PSU off and back on sometimes. and in another instance it failed to start CPU fan, also 'fixed' by toggling power switch.
Yes it sounds like a motherboard problem or a PSU problem. Sometimes PSUs can start giving symptoms like not consistently powering the PC or suddenly losing power and then acting normal again. Mine did that a few years ago. So check the PSU first then the mobo. Thank you for watching and keep me posted.

Either the PSU or the motherboard. Its hard to say since I can't see whats going on. Is your hard drive plugged in correctly to the SATA connection and power is connected to the hard drive? Does the motherboard make a beeping sound?

Hey. So what's your take on this scenario: I have a pc, it does not have a power supply. It's a lenovo motherboard, I use a lenovo laptop charger to power it. We just use the pc as a headless server for the home theater, it was functional for at least 8 years before it one day just didn't want to turn on anymore. I have no hope or desire or time to spend money to fix it because it was purely a hobby build. However how would you diagnose something like that when you don't have common signs to where the issue is?
True, CPUs can become bad from heat, age, overclocking and power surges. However the 4 solutions I mentioned are usually the culprit but you are correct with checking the CPU. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
I have an issue where I can a black screen most of the time when booting but when it doesn’t black screen, it goes past bios but freezes right after. (Can still get into bios fine) Things I’ve done: Replaced motherboard Tested GPU, RAM, PSU, SSD not an issue with any of that. Tested with different parts. Reset CMOS, Updated BIOS same issue. Only part I haven’t tested is the CPU, I have been told it is extremely rare for a cpu failure. All the research I’ve done doesn’t lead to a CPU issue.
Sounds like it's the motherboard to me. My only other advice is to take everything out of the pc case and start over from scratch with installing the mobo amd make sure all of the cables are connected correctly. Like make sure the CPU power connector is plugged in from the PSU, that will cause it not to boot. Sometimes motherboards have jumpers that can fall off during install and that will cause it not to boot. A bad CPU is very unlikely but you can remove the CPU and look for any bent pins. If there are bent pins that will be the reason it's not booting. Keep me posted and thank you for watching.
Great video quick question, how come you didn’t consider the gpu being the problem if there was no video output? I’m learning computer repair so any helpful info would help 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I plugged the monitor directly into the motherboards HDMI and got the same result which rules out the GPU. So do this to verify if the GPU is bad. Thanks for watching!

I have a gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 motherboard. My pc sometimes dont power on, sometimes okay. I just bought a new power supply yesterday because cleaning ram with eraser and reinserting the c-mos battery wont solve the problem (not a single fan works when I hit the power button, many times, that is why i assumed i was my power supply that is failing). Hello. i have random signal losses. Screen goes on and off randomly. Sometimes i have to press a key on keyboard to have the signal back. The display cables are new. Could be a dying mobo?
Thanks for your detailed video, straight to the points :) Is it a dead giveaway that your mobo is faulty when your PC wont post - and does not recognize your usb devices? I tried everything: checking all cables, swapping the psu and gpu, run the pc with only one ram (cycled throu all 4 slots, with both of them), even unplugged both ssd and hdd, but i get nothing.. the pc refuses to boot/post. The Mobo's (an msi b350 pc mate) VGA led lights up, but even without a VGA OR another 100% working gpu it stays on. Tried the other pcie slot, same result. So i thought, okay, I'll try a bootable usb with freedos.. but nope, the pc wont even recognize the USB-Stick (works fine on my other pc). Narrowed it down to the CPU or Mobo, but I don't have anny spare parts for that. The only thing that i think is strange and make me believe it's the Mobo, is that my keyboard and mouse won't light up. Any thoughts about that?
Damnn, my motherboard died last week, it was fine for 2-3 months then suddenly died so i went to the store where i bought it and got it RMA and they advise to wait for a month. F for pc gaming :(
Is it safe to say, if I only plug in the cpu and the power pin and the pc still stays dark that it’s the mobo that is dead? Ram and everything else already reslotted
Question, what can I check on an older ECS motherboard that I can't get to power up? Thought my power supply was dead so I tried a known good supply and still nothing. I know some resistors are bulged out from a quick look. I'd like to restore this thing to it's old school glory to run Windows 98 SE. I don't know what other board to get if I can't get this one going.
Seems like the solution to my problem but i dont want to buy a motherboard before i know my cpu is fine, because i am confident (after replacing psu and checking current on the motherboard, which ends where it gets power from the PSU). How do I make sure my psu isnt dead as well?
I need your help. Comp was working fine, woke up and it doesn’t turn on any more. The only thing that turns on is a red blinking light on the motherboard (asrock asb350 K4 gaming). No fan no nothing. I replace the cmos battery, tried jumpers, power on with n without ram. Still same blinking light. Took out the gpu also n same result. Now would the motherboard still have light if the psu doesn’t work? I’m thinking it’s either motherboard or cpu. Any suggestions? Like would a bad motherboard make the fans not spin?
It's most likely the PSU because your fans are not spinning. The motherboard light takes so little power and is probably powered by the cmos battery. Replace your power supply. I have a video on a power supply calculator. Watch it so you get the right amount of power for your system. Thank you for watching and keep me posted..

A pc keep giving alarming beeps or siren but still work fine. Usually first thing to do is to replace the PC case and install the RAM in different slots, but some RAM stick are the “leader” stick that must be in the slot 1 to make a pc POST as the other sticks of RAM “follower” sticks that couldn’t POST all by itself.
It may not be the PSU has fault, but replace the PSU may fix it if all the fans works fine when there was no POST. Replace mobo’s battery too. In many cases no PC parts has fault, it just need to replace the PC case, RAM, PSU, battery with another working PC parts, so after doing all that, you ended up with 2 working PC system and not a single faulty PC part.
May need to replace the PC case because some pc case’s back panel is curved outward and need pushed inward to put in the screw to secure the graphic card, so after some years or weeks of use, it pulled things out of place, bow and arrow theory … …
In one of the other cases, each time the power is out in my house, I need to replace the graphic card and installed a graphic card that could POST in the PC, then I install the one that failed to POST back in place and it could POST, so each time the power it’s out I need to repeat that!
Some PC could shut down due to static changes when your hand is only touching the power button to the PC that’s made of plastic.
Some PC couldn’t POST, just wait a 3 days without using it, then it return to life of POST, this could happen once in a few years of use, like seeing a comet going passing by! Unplug the power cord and HDMI cables to the PC and let it sit there for 3 days …
Thank You so much for this video! It saved a lot of time and money across our planet!
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Damn!! U just saved my ass from buying a new mobo 😪 drained cmos battery. Thanks!! 🙌🙌

first-time builder here, I've gone through all these steps and different variations of these steps. I can only get to post with one RAM stick in the manufacturers suggested single stick slot. If I have two in the suggested slots it will not get to post. I think I can count out a short from the case because I can get there with the one stick. You guys definitely thinking bad mobo?
When you say 1 RAM stick gets you to post? You mean you get to the boot screen? BIIOS screen? Windows? Please specify.
Thanks for the advice. Any tips on reapplying thermal tape? Is that going to be a mess? @@Windowlesswhitevan you can just use the same thermal paste it should be enough. You can use rubbing alcohol with a cotton ball to remove the old paste if you want. But you should be ok. Keep me posted and thanks for watching.

Glad it all worked out! Thanks for watching!
Did you put the original PSU back in with the new MB?
Yes I did.

I have a question this morning my pc will not turn on, its not receiving any power lights or case fans wont spin.. i assume its either the psu or case itself... Im waiting on a new psu if thats not it ill bypass power button and check the case function.. is this the correct order for troubleshoot? Could you see anything else causing this issue?

it was my power supply thank you sooo much!!!!!!
That happens quite often. Glad you figured it out! Congratulations! Thanks again for watching!
@@UltimateTechHub no problem! Keep making them 👍🏻
we jus had a couple of power outages today from storms and it looks like I'm in the same boat. Tried all tips and last option is the main board. A replacement is on the way so well see.
Funny thing is same thing is happening to me with the same motherboard 😂
It's a pretty common issue with many boards.
Same here!
Should I reapply thermal paste when swapping the mobo? Since the cooler and CPU get separated.
Yes
Hello, I hope you check this comment. My pc shut down a couple of days ago and im trying to figure out what the problem is. I don't have an extra PSU nor a motherboard.
Whenever I remove the CMOS Battery and put it back, I can go to the same screen at 4:53, I go into BIOS and save then restart - after that it goes back to being black screen.
Is this the motherboard or the power supply? I hope you can help me.
Are your fans turning on? Does your motherboard beep at all when it boots?

Have an issue with my current rig. I think it the motherboard failing cause sometimes my PC won't turn on at all andi have to fill the PSU off and back on sometimes. and in another instance it failed to start CPU fan, also 'fixed' by toggling power switch.
Yes it sounds like a motherboard problem or a PSU problem. Sometimes PSUs can start giving symptoms like not consistently powering the PC or suddenly losing power and then acting normal again. Mine did that a few years ago. So check the PSU first then the mobo. Thank you for watching and keep me posted.
@@UltimateTechHub Issue only seem to happen when turning it on after shut downs but not every time(comes in and out sleep mode without issues). i have an asus strix b550- gamining wifi with the same issue, the rgb turns on when powered passively, but upon trying to start the pc no image, did you resolve this?
Either the PSU or the motherboard. Its hard to say since I can't see whats going on. Is your hard drive plugged in correctly to the SATA connection and power is connected to the hard drive? Does the motherboard make a beeping sound?

Hey. So what's your take on this scenario:
I have a pc, it does not have a power supply.
If you have a power supply from a different PC, then I would try that first. Then remove 1 ram stick and then check the CMOS battery.
@@UltimateTechHub thanks! Already found a burn out mark on the motherboard so I think it's bye bye 😆
@@FS-yq9ef Sounds like it's dead.
@@UltimateTechHub it's dead
Motherboards are the most likely because its a concoction of various chips and parts all sharing the same platforum.
It could also be the cpu, if there's no fan turning on.
True, CPUs can become bad from heat, age, overclocking and power surges. However the 4 solutions I mentioned are usually the culprit but you are correct with checking the CPU. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
my other fan is turning on but only my cpu fan wont work , but the other fan is good do i need to change my cpu or motherboard

update: Yeah my mobo is dead ordered a new one :) Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the video! Im having the same problem with my computer. But how can you tell of its the CPU or MOBO thats bad?
Generally its the MOBO, unless your PC over-heated then it could be the CPU. If your PC did not over-heat then its the MOBO.
I have an issue where I can a black screen most of the time when booting but when it doesn’t black screen, it goes past bios but freezes right after. (Can still get into bios fine)
Things I’ve done:
Replaced motherboard
Tested GPU, RAM, PSU, SSD not an issue with any of that.

Yes you can use the old CPU as long as its compatible with new mobo. So buy a mobo that uses the same chipset.

Thanks for your detailed video, straight to the points :)
Is it a dead giveaway that your mobo is faulty when your PC wont post - and does not recognize your usb devices?
It's the MOBO. CPUs rarely become faulty unless you installed and bent one of the pins.
@@UltimateTechHub yeah thought so, thanks for your reply

Question, what can I check on an older ECS motherboard that I can't get to power up? Thought my power supply was dead so I tried a known good supply and still nothing. I saw that u didn’t do a repaste on the cpu is that ok ? I was always told if u take ur cooler off ur cpu u must reapply paste
ty dude my computer right now is more dead
