Mazda 3 Brake System Fluid Test & Flush - Two Person Method

- Here's how to test and flush your brake fluid. This happens to be my daily driver (Mazda 3 2010), but the procedure is similar on any car. One thing to consider is where the ABS controller is. If it's in the back of the car, then you want to flush from the longest distance from the ABS as possible.
The brake fluid reservoir on my car is obstructed which makes extracting or testing the fluid harder.
A power bleeder would be helpful here to quickly pull that old fluid out, but we used the two person method instead. I don't have a power bleeder. The small handheld pump doesn't really work any faster so I'd recommend an air or battery powered vacuum bleeder.

You can flip that full pint fluid can upside down in the reservoir filler hole. It will fill the reservoir as you pump it, until the air into the fluid can is blocked by the fluid level. Just be quick or the insertion and removal. A quart can also works if there is enough clearance above the master cylinder reservoir. Pint can on the older 356 since the master cylinder hard to reach and to pour into.
I see what you are saying, but you can't access the fluid level on this Mazda reservoir
I’m a long time Mazda wonder
Mazda3 mazdaspeed3 mazdaspeed protege. And currently two Miata’s. I would love you thoughts on the Mazda Zoom Zoom handling. Yes even on that maxda3
My Mazda 3 handles and drives great! I'm not the best driver to evaluate all the details, but I hope that changes soon!
How high and drunk were you when you typed this? Goddamn.
Can you explain when you say up and down etc what that means and when you’re supposed to open the line etc?
Open the bleeder when the pedal is down. Wait for the bubbles to leave. Close the bleeder then pedal up. Repeat.
Hi Tom, why not add a known 1 % water to the old fluid and see if your meter reacts🙄
That's a good idea, or put the meter in water😃
Tom the motor's in the wrong end of the car!
Exactly! Good point.
Tester is absolutely not needed.
Silly to change the fluid every two years.
