Maxlife work good, BUT the COF is not correct. I used maxlife for about 50k. It worked nice, But it didn't have the exact firmness of shifting and usually as I was coming to a stop light and the light would change just b4 I stopped, there was this slight hesitation as it would shift down. I would find myself hesitating a second b4 I hit the gas, always hoping the person behind me didn't hit me. I purchase IDEMITSU Type M (made specifically for my mazda 5 (m5, mv and m3 trans). Now mazda shifts PERFECTLY, it now has solid shifts and always downs shift Correctly when I have to slow down for stop lights or anything. MAXLIFE is probably ok and I use to swear by it, but the more research I did, I learned the the mazda trans needs the exact formulated fluid. The friction modifiers in the Maxlife IS NOT completely correct. It will work and may or may not harm the trans, but I know from experience that the trans works better and just feels more solid with the IDEMITSU Type M, which is the manufacture for Asian auto companies. I argued a long time with a guy over this and He turned out to be correct. Do yourself a favor and get the Correct Fluid. You will be happy! IDEMITSU TYPE M is the best or one of the best. I first serviced my trans @53k, dropped pan (very dirty inside), installed new strainer, then did several drain n refills within the next week or two. Did more drain n refills about 25-30k later, just did it again a few weeks ago to flush out the Maxlife ATF and She is PERFECTO Now! With the maxlife the shifts were almost very smooth n almost seemless , but that was b/c the Friction modifiers are NOT exactly as Mazda intended. She just plan works better with the IDEMITSU Type M factory fluid. End of story n no more Maxlife or any other brand for that matter..
Correct. He used LV , low viscosity, This is the wrong fluid. Also mercon V is NOT the same as M-V Mazda 5 fluid. Idemitsu makes the fluid for Mazda. Do it right guys or you will have problems
Saw this exact debate on the forums. about the COF. I’m still super hesitant however I’m more than confident that the OEM is better I just really want somebody to convince me that the cheaper valvoline max life is better 😂😂😂
@@RuciosDubstepMixs it is made specifically for the mazda 5. As good or better than oem. i believe they make the oem. the maxlife is ok, but as stated in my post it is not EXACT. the maxlife worked perfect in my first gen xterra, but in the mazda it worked well, but i noticed sometimes it didn't shift down quite as quick as it should sometimes. been awhile but so i can't remember all the specifics, but i do remember when i switched to the idemitsu, it just performed perfectly. hope that helps. here is a link www.idemitsulubricants.com/product/atf-type-m
I did a bg transmission service at 50k and drain and fills every 15k. I'm at 100k now. My question is what media is in the filter? The foam or a screen? Thanks
Mazda uses a screen type filter on the Skyactiv models. Transmission is sealed and no maintenance is required. The fluid is suppose to be good for the life of the car.
Thank you for the video! Best one out there - you describe everything in full and when you need to show what needs to be done all details are there. Have a nice day!
Fyi mazda manual specifically says to only use Mazda transmission Fluid. I have a mazda 6 and it requires M5 (Mazda 5 )fluid which is not the same viscosity as MV (merchon V). I buy my Trans fluid from mazda parts department.
Good video except way overdone on the silicone. You only need a tiny bit to hold the gasket in place on the pan side only (grease would work too) You did not state the pan bolt torque specs (very important) I found for a Toyota yaris the torque is 6 ft lb. I think this would be the same since they are both aluminum body.
I know it's been awhile but do you remember how much fluid was left in the pan after draining? Just wondering how much of a mess to expect to clean up after removing the pan. :) Looks like you didn't have a bunch. Thanks for the video.
What a great video you did here. Thank you so much. I just wanted to ask you.. have you ever felt the transmission kind of jerk a little when you are coming to a stop, as it goes down the gears? This happens to my 2011 Mazda 3. I had the transmission fully flushed at a shop at 46K (now 68k) and I can't remember if it did that before. They changed the filter as well all both filter and oil Mazda parts.
This is a great video but you should really work on your editing and try to talk less, there's so much of the video that you have to skip. But other then that great work.

Hello just want it to give a heads up. I found out that jiffy lube can do the flush for your vehicle. I would definitely would do it with them. But if your a handy I'm sure you can do it also. Many 🙏 Thanks for watching.
@@Rtario Yeah, I will definitely do it myself, I never have and never will trust Jiffy Lube or any other "quick lube" establishment to do any type of service on my vehicles.
Hello Aarion. My vehicle is 2011 Mazda 3 automatic. The filter u can get from Mazda delearship or any auto parts. And the Vin number are all different from each vehicle.
Can I drain out 2.5quarts like you did, refill is, run it through some gears while the front is on jack stands, drain it again and then refill it to pretty much flush it?
Hello Michael. I think it was about 4 quarts and usually it's about 7 to 9 quarts. Just drain as much as u can and should be good. Just remember take your time and and refill what u took out. But if there a jiffy lube where u leave its best because they flush more out. Good luck many blessings 🙏
Hello febri, Usually it would be what came out of the transmission. I would measure it with other empty bottles so you'll know exactly how much to put back.. I would buy around 5 bottles of new transmissions fluid. Start with 3 in it slowly and then u can use the those to measure it. And you go from there. Remember let it warm up and then measure it and drive around close by and stop and measure it again. And just refill what it needs. And then check the next day also to make sure if it needs more. Good buddy! Happy Holidays!
This was really good! Thank you for the video! Got mine at advance auto parts for $50 you have to order it in store. With filter was $85. Can’t find any other type of automatic transmission fluid other than Valvoline though :( idk if I can trust Castrol.
I thought the Mazda 3 transmission takes atf-mv type 5 fluid? The fluid you used is mercon LV, which is a totally different fluid than what the manual calls for. I realize that Google and even Auto zone or O'Reilly's will tell you that Mercon LV can be used, but if you look at the differences I think that it would be safer to use atf mv type 5 or a universal fluid that can safely be used as a substitute.
Hi mate I check the manual for Mazda 3 2011 and said that transmission oil capacity is 7.8 liter for full drain. However in this video only 3 liters used. Can you please clarify thanks
Good morning Nae. Well yes it about 7.8 liters on manual. But u wont be able to drain everything out. It's impossible to do that. You would have remove everything on the transmission. So I only replace back what it needed. The only way to get the whole thing out and doing at a location in Jiffy Lube. They have a machine that flushes everything out and replace the new tranny fluid in. I hope this answer your question.
Hello Stelio. To be honest no problem at all car runs strong. Just make sure it has exact Tranny fluid check it for the next 2 days. After u warm it up. Still have the car and using it everyday.
Hello Holger, sorry for the delay, I end up changing the transmission fluid around 70,000 miles. Buy normally its every 50,000. The reason why I end up changing the trans fluid is because I don't want any bad to happen the valves inside for the gears. Thank u! And many 🙏
Hi! Would it be possible to share where can you get the Transmission Fluid Filter and Transmission Fluid for this Mazda? (Not sure if it's the 2013 Skyactive version of if it's different)

I was told that 2007 Mazda 3 2.3l have a lifetime transmission filter by a Mazda dealership in my city. Can someone confirm this? Cause this sounds fishy. I was looking to get the filter changed
"lifetime" meaning the lifetime of your transmission. So once the transmission fails, then the "lifetime" fluid and "lifetime" filter has done it's job.... Stupid really
I was told the same for my '14 3. Lifetime apparently means 60k miles (warranty).... Literally every other car recommends replacing transmission fluid (not flushing) every 60k miles.
"Lifetime" basically means the manufactures warranty period. i. e 100,000 km. They only care about it lasting that long. The manufacturer isn't going to waste money servicing the trans so it can last 200,000km or more. If you leave it alone it will last at least 100,000km. But if you service it and change the fluid and filter you will get 200,000+ out of it.
Really nice job. Good explanation without a lot of excess info. I am spending the extra money on the Mazda spec fluid. Personal experience with Honda and Mazda = they are picky about their automatic transmission and their power steering fluids. You can save some money on engine oils (provided they are the correct viscosity), but if you try to substitute ATF or power steering fluid they start acting up. Lessons learned, and now I jus suck it up and buy the OEM for those systems.
My 2005 Honda Accord loved the Maxlife ATF fluid. Had it for 160,000 miles before I traded it in and the used car manager said it drove like new! Did a Drain and Fill once a year with Maxlife ATF...far superior product than the Honda Z1 ATF.
Hello ! I have a 2007 Mazda 3 GX Sedan, I just want to do the fluid change. Not sure if you know, but would you suggest I just drain the fluid, put back the plug, and refill with the right amount ? Thanks.
Yes u can do that! Just make sure u add the fluid then start the car and add the rest of it and on park put it in 1-2-3-4 Drive and reverse without moving the car..
R Tario so put most of the fluid in and then start it switching the gears, after top it up ? I'm not sure how to go about the process specifally with that. :/
Well technically it would be a good idea so u can keep it clean and all. If u don't the new tranny fluis will darker soon. And next time u should change.
Not sure what viscosity that mazda requires but be warned, its not the same Maxlife as it was 10 years ago. Its thin. Real thin. Maybe the thinnest ATF there is. Thinner than Dex vi. ATF viscosity has to be perfect, otherwise the hydraulic pressure wont be right, which will wear out the torque converter and clutch plates prematurely. Why universal fluids scare me.
I've never been a "car guy", but now that I'm looking for a new vehicle I've just fallen in love with the Mazda 3's. I was afraid that being 6'5" would make the car undriveable for me (comfortably), but I actually fit great after lowering the seat... feels a lot like my 02 Cavalier. I've looked at several models and test drove a 2012. Only thing that concerned me was it seemed to delay shifting from 1st to 2nd (auto transmission). Could be something simple (like old oil), or something more complicated. The car should still have quite a bit of life left in it (100k miles on it now) and I'm hoping the transmission can be squared away so I can bring it home, lol. Thanks for the upload... I'd be 100% confident performing this maintenance on my vehicle in the future.
I ended up buying an 08 Accord instead. I really liked the Mazda 3's but something about them was making me car sick. The floaty transmission would be an easy area to blame, but I actually think it was the angle of the windshield. The Accord doesn't shift as tight as my old Cavalier either, but it doesn't make me car sick. Either way... happy with my purchase, and hopefully you don't have any issues with the transmission in your Mazda.

Thanks a lot for trying to help me. My car year is 2011. It looks the same as your Mazda 3, but it's just that it is a 1.5L gasoline engine. The gearbox is both automatic and manual. I am located in Mauritius, it's an island in the indian ocean. Do I need to send you pictures of the engine and if yes how do I send same. We have a lot of spare part companies here in my country and the dealership for Mazda cars, but they don't seem to know exactly what transmission fluid I can use. I don't want to take a risk. Thanks again for your help.
Imrul Kayes That’s really annoying, because I don’t wanna take any risk. An automatic transmission can cost a lot and it’s better to get the right trans oil.
Great video, i viewed the dipstick and it looked nice and red .. but when i did a flush the fluid colour was actually pretty black .... glad I did one with your video.
There is a difference between a flush and a change. This is a change, a flush would involve moving fresh fluid through the system with a machine. You're conflating the two interchangeably in your video but they mean two different things. Anyway, thanks for showing us how, this was very helpful.
Thanks for the info. Is it even possible for a regular person to do a flush on their own? Without some huge piece of equipment/pump to cycle fluid through?
@@GMoney-B you can just do an oil change, let it run for about 2-3 weeks, in that while the new oil will cycle through the whole system cleaning it of any debris then do another oil change with filter change as well, currently doing that right now with the same brand he's using, after 3 weeks of running it i will dump it out and put the manufacturers oil, will probably get it at the dealer, and change the filter as well.
I have changed my transmission gasket several times and never had a problem with the gasket by itself. I would worry about making sure it was cured enough before adding new fluid and having it circulate past the fresh sealant that will be squeezed inside the pan when you bolt it on...
I've changed my pan gasket twice without using rtv and I've had no leaks. If you don't need it, why use it and have to clean it up every time you change the filter.
Hello Karim, Thank you I end up putting in 5 quarts of tranny fluid. But keep.an eye on it ok. As for my mazda is still running strong with no problem.

@@mac4boys541 thank you guys for the heads up.

Hi. Did it actually drained out 3.5 quarts of fluid? At Mazda dealership I was told that only about 1quart will drain out.
Hello approximately about 4 qts. Remember you won’t be able to flush it all out.
R Tario thank you. 3.5 is good enough. The tranny capacity is around 3.7 .
That dealership lied as we all know now. I got just under 4 quarts out too.
Fyi mazda manual specifically says to only use Mazda transmission Fluid. I have a mazda 6 and it requires M5 (Mazda 5 )fluid which is not the same viscosity as MV (merchon V). I buy my Trans fluid from mazda parts department.
Thank you romans. Just FYI the Mazda is still running strong No issue at all. Yes Mazda Tran fluid is better.
Mazda ATF M-V is M5. M-V is not Mercon V and is not compatible. I use Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle ATF in my 09 Mazda 3 2.0
Mazda recommend not changing the transmission fluid. So what is your advice?
Good video except way overdone on the silicone. You only need a tiny bit to hold the gasket in place on the pan side only (grease would work too) You did not state the pan bolt torque specs (very important) I found for a Toyota yaris the torque is 6 ft lb. I think this would be the same since they are both aluminum body.
I know it's been awhile but do you remember how much fluid was left in the pan after draining? Just wondering how much of a mess to expect to clean up after removing the pan. :) Looks like you didn't have a bunch. Thanks for the video.
Hey bro great video where is the fill hole located for new fluid?
Left of battery red cap
Where did you get a gasket? I called mazda they said there is no gasket for 2013 mazda 3
Thank you! I really appreciate your feedback. I'll be posting new videos soon. 🙏

Is this the CVT transmission?. What's the VIN on the vehicle and do you have the part number for the filter?
My pan was stuck just like yours and I'm afraid to whack it haha
how much transmission oil for Mazda 2 cars in 2010?
thanks..
It's never to late. I would wait till it hit's 100k though.
I've always used the m5 fluid
Same cant go wrong with the dealership oil

Thank you! I'm glad you found my video.

Yes make sure it warms up and check the level. With the car been on.. You'll be ok
Change the fluid once, then drive 2000 miles so the transmission retrains itself, then change again.
Hey do I need to replace the filter or can I just drain and replace the fluid ?
Well technically it would be a good idea so u can keep it clean and all. If u don't the new tranny fluis will darker soon. And next time u should change.
Not sure what viscosity that mazda requires but be warned, its not the same Maxlife as it was 10 years ago. Its thin. Real thin. Maybe the thinnest ATF there is. Thinner than Dex vi. ATF viscosity has to be perfect, otherwise the hydraulic pressure wont be right, which will wear out the torque converter and clutch plates prematurely. Why universal fluids scare me.
what brands do you use? Mazda or Idemetsu?
Exactly , I used Maxlife n maybe ok, But I now use Idemitsu and it is the way to go.

Hello Andreas. It’s a 2011 Mazda 3 2.0l
Im glad you liked my video.. And Thank you!
Actually that’s the same thing for me i have about 103k miles and there is a small delay for me too also got automatic
