    Thanks for the video. I have a 08 Mazda 3 hatchback. I'm assuming the dipstick will be in the same location as I can't find the dam thing in this car🤦 alot you have to do just to get to it🙄😂

      @@DIYNorth Nope. Drain and fill only. Mister Transmission quoted a higher price than that.

      @@deshanchathura what I have found to be universally true is the engine oil changes are kept at a lower price, but other things like transmission, differential, etc are very much inflated.
      Even though they are just as easy or easier, and the fluid costs less.

    Just did the same with my 13', changes are way smoother right now! The blue color will change to redish/yellow in like 30k km so not bieng blue is not a big conceirn. Mine was very dark at 120k km

      Yes i think that the job is worth doing even though Mazda indicates it is a life time fluid. I think when a car maker says "life time" it means that it will last until the warranty period is over.

    • @jabiracar
      @jabiracar 3 місяці тому +1

      @@DIYNorth if the fluid last all the transmission life it was "lifetime" lol. I believe they do that do drag down the "maintenance costs" for people who are buying them brand new and probably will never face a transmission failure. Great video!

    How about the filter?

    • @DIYNorth

      I will never remove the drain pan.
      Those bolts are really rusty and I've snapped transmission pan bolts on two different vehicles.
      I dont think it's worth it for me.

      @DIYNorth I watched a video where recommended not necessary to replace ATF filter because of where it is located and function

    • @DIYNorth
      @DIYNorth  2 місяці тому +2

      @@cafemolido5459 The fluid itself is supposed to be life time fluid, so there is no real schedule to replace the filter. For me it is really high risk and little to no reward.

    Awesome maintenance procedure to extend the life of your transmission! Good design on Mazda! I did this on my 06 CRV at 80k miles (that video got 80k views in 2 years!). Unfortunately, most modern cars no longer have transmission fluid dipsticks, making the fluid replacement more challenging. I need to do this on my GX470 with 130k miles (210,000km). Perhaps this summer is a good time to do this.
    Great video!!!

    Aisin Atf-mfz is $9 for cheaper transmission fluid. They are the company that makes transmission fluid for Toyotas.

      @DIYNorth I just go on rock auto for parts and check with the owners manual for what fluids the car takes. Like fl 22 coolant is just a slightly more concentrated Asian green pout coolant. They make it more concentrated so they don't need as much changing as water gets into their system.

    Great video, thanks for uploading.
    Can you share which dealership had the fluid for $14/L and which had it for $24/L?
    I am not mechanically inclined like you and I am getting this job done at the dealership in Orleans.
    I am wondering which dealership has the best service, rates, prices, etc. from your experience.

    • @DIYNorth
      @DIYNorth  4 місяці тому +1

      Bank Street Mazda had the cheaper price on fluids. Its not the first time that I have noticed that they are less expensive. I'm closer to the one in Orleans so I'd rather go there.
      I would recommend calling the three in town for anything that you want done. There is always one that is less than the other two for some reason, but it isn't always consistent.
      I haven't really compared their labour rates though, only parts.

    • @DIYNorth

      it's not very convenient to get at. To be fair the airbox does come out fairly easy though.

    • @marklast4668
      @marklast4668 2 місяці тому +1

      Their dipstick is a joke and ridiculous! To check fluid level, my 2016 Mazda3 requires that I remove the airbox and release the tiny screw bolting down the plastic dipstick? They should have stayed with the old models where the dipstick is 2+ feet long, and the dipstick tube, the dipstick rests in, extends above or even to the airbox. No need to remove anything, and I can check fluid level at the gas station, with the engine hot, if I want to within a minute.
      Another engineering marvel of the modern age. I swear, the latest copies of people (we're all just copies of copies) are getting ever dumber. Lol! Something is lost along the way.

      When car is on ramps you can access from underneath and use a hose on a funnel to fill new fluid.
