OMG SAMEEE. I’m a poc sophomore in high school as well that is aspiring to be a dermatologist but heard it’s really hard to match into derm which is why I’m watch all of these videos to prepare myself.

Girl I’m only an incoming freshman at college and I’m already thinking about what specialty i want to have in the future. Dermatology really has been something on my mind for a while and hopefully I can stick with that because its a specialty that stays on my mind 24/7.

I am a final year pre-med student that is interested in attending med school. I have always been intrigued with knowing more about skin and hair so I am thinking about specializing in dermatology. I watched your video with a couple doubts but now I believe this is the path I want to go along. Thank you!

Wanted to do dental 🦷 cause I just love the whole aesthetic and manual job for me are pretty soothing for the soul lol...But Dermatology was what got me in med school so I don’t know
I admire people who want to do dental! For me I couldn't imagine just focusing on the mouth but I totally get the aesthetic part. I always appreciate seeing beautiful teeth lol! So wait, are you in med school?
so you are talking a lot about variety, for you does that mean you will specialize further once u are past residency or stick to general dermatology? would that allow u to see that variety, or would that be a time where you just don’t specialize any further? thank u so much for making this video, i’m trying to figure out what i want to study in college and videos like this are helping me a lot! sorry if my question doesn’t make much sense, i’m definitely a newbie in the speciality arena.
The amazing thing about dermatology is that I can structure my clinic to focus on what I'm most interested in. I love gen derm because theres so much variety in that! As of now, I have a special interest in hair, so I hope to have a clinic with gen derm but with a little more focus on hair disorders than other conditions seen in gen derm.
Hii! wow, I love you charisma and the reasons why you chose dermatology and a future dermatology that is a black female. My dream is to go to medical school, I study Biology now and I am looking for a female mentor in the field. If we could exchange emails or if you created a video in the life of a derm resident it would be amazing. There are so many routes I've heard people take to match into derm, so thats awesome! It's really a great field. =)
I was wondering if you were ever “squimish” and if so did it go away?
Definitely! It most commonly occurred in Med school when lesions had an odor and when doing a procedure on that lesion, the odor can get to ya! Just knowing what to expect in those circumstances and seeing it repetitively def helps with that. Also in general I don’t work on an empty stomach, especially for procedures/surgeries, to prevent from feeling faint.

Do dermatologists do surgery?
yep! Outpatient surgery though. Theres also a special type called Mohs surgery.
How many years to become a dermatologist?
4years of undergrad , 4years of Med school, 4 years of residency training. As a resident, you’re a physician but training under board certified dermatologist. Once you complete residency, you take boards to become board certified.
