Hey ya'll! Here's a video focused on a day in my life as a dermatologist and what derm residency is like. In this video, you'll see how I prepare for my day, how lectures are structured and clinic!
Did you expect for derm residency to have that many hours of studying and lectures?!
I didn't realize there were so many lectures during residency until I started MS3. I'm actually glad there's built in time to study for exams during residency. Great vlog btw!
@@mgmtgirlyeah7493 yep, there’s so much learning in our training. I really appreciate that we get protected learning time! Thanks for watching and commenting 🥰
aspiring derm here! I'm a freshman and highschool and really think that this is the career for me🙂I'm a little intimidated by the journey that I am gonna have to take but I think I can do it. Seeing this was very cool and insightful. Thanks, this is an awesome video!!
So glad that you enjoyed the video! You definitely can become a dermatologist! Be sure to check out my other vids about getting into Med school! It’s awesome that you’re already thinking about this so early, I’m excited for you!

Omg second person to notice it! 🥰Also I just looooove that my vids are being watched in T&T omgggggg! So exciting that you want to be a dermatologist, its definitely an attainable career once you remain passionate about it!
All your videos are excellent, thank you!! Question. Need to make a decision by April 30th. I'm very interested in Derm. School 1 does a lot of research but is almost 2x the cost of school 2 that does very little research. With step 1 now pass/fail my guess in order to be competitive, research is important. Should cost factor into my decision? 57 K vs 32 K. Should I find research outside of school is that considered ok? Would be interested in your opinion
I would prioritize the strength of their derm program (since you are interested in derm) and other residency departments (in case you change your mind) and educational components of the school (mentorship, match success rate, etc) . Although the school may not be heavy in research, the specialty department itself can have a lot of research opportunities. Also yes- it is VERY common for students to work with faculty not at their school when it comes to research projects. I actually think it’s a great way to increase your network! This can be done by joining specialty specific organizations to learn about opportunities, meet professors and doing away rotations. Also, with just being inquisitive, you can create your own research opportunities.
Cost realistically is a factor and affected my decision when choosing Med schools. However, for some people, this isn’t an issue at all.
Hope this was helpful and feel free to ask more questions. Thanks for your compliment on my channel, it means a lot. 😊
Thank you for the super fast reply. I'm certainty blessed to even have a choice. Just scary the cost difference. Best of luck to you!!
Do you have nights in dermatology residency? What are the working hours?
You inspire me so much❤️❤️
Thank you for your kind wordsss!! 🥰🥰
You amaze me, anyone who even got into medical school amazes me, awesome 😎 👏
Awww thank you!
Hi, medical student here - love your videos! Can you elaborate on the overlap you see between psychiatric and dermatologic disorders? What are some examples you might commonly see?
Yes- so psychderm and neuroderm are both aspects of derm. Some symptoms of the skin such as itch have overlap with neuro and psych. (Itch is complex due to signaling pathways and can be difficult to treat for these reasons)
Other common neuropsych examples include but not limited to self inflicted lesions, psych drugs that cause itch or other derm conditions and of course how derm disorders can mentally affect patients (ie depression).
Also Thanks for watching 😊
Hi where did you get the scrubs?
Cherokee infinity scrubs from Amazon. Actually one of my favorites.
Would you say your clinics are essentially always one on one with an attending, i.e. you see a patient first then the attending and you see the patient together?
I’m always supervised by an attending ( I see the patient first and then with the attending) although at times one attending can be supervising multiple residents
@@TheRealSkinImInMD That's an amazing way to learn! Derm really does seem like the best specialty ever!
@@vans4lyf2013 lol, well i def think it is! =)
The chain tho😍🇹🇹
Lol thanks for noticing 😂😂 few people ever get it right it’s often assumed to be Louisiana. 🇹🇹
