I actually couldn't agree more. I have a carbon Eagle claw that I've had since 80's. That's my prize possession until I bought the GX2 . The GX2 is one of the most balanced poles for all around fishing up to 20# fish. Obviously I use my catfish and catfish special ugly sticks for typical catfishing and carp. But I've used the GX2 enough to know it's a smooth outfit. It's a winner for the money. I like them so much I bought 2.
My wife hooked a sea turtle probably #150 with my 4.5 foot ugly stick gx2 ultra light lol I cut the line once we realized what it was but it had the rod bent over and was pulling line! No damage! I've landed 24 inch catfish on that same rod.
I love Ugly Stik Elite 7' med heavy Spinning Rod. I live on the Texas Coast & caught many bull reds, trout, founder, huge black drum, you name in during my 40yrs of fishing. Never had a single Ugly Snap on me. I've even caught a 50" bull red on a 7' med heavy & 2 large Wahoo offshore & many Kingfish. Love these rods. Great review
Real good comparison video -- thank you very much. Sorry I'm seeing this video after I went ahead and bought the GX2 combo at my local Bass Pro Shop. But, your feedback definitely reinforced my purchase. I still fish with my vintage Shimano Fighting Rods, but I was also always curious about the Ugly Stick GX2, which I plan to try out this weekend. Thanks again -- liked and subscribed.
I'm new to fishing and purchased the Elite in Medium-Heavy but it's tip bend was definitely more like a a medium rating (I was disappointed). so I'm returning for the lite pro cause I prefer the cork grip. Thanks for the video, it's given me confidence in my decision to exchange for the right ugly stik
I bought a fishing rod about a year ago and still haven't used it. I went to go look at what kind it is and it just happens to be a GX2 Ugly Stick. After watching this I'm glad I bought it. Had no idea it was so good. I bought it because it was cheap. Lol
Ive used ugly stiks for muskie, pike, walleye, perch, smallmouth, largemouth, bullhead, crappie, bluegill and never had an issue. I tried the graphite rods and they all broke. In my opinion ugly stik is where its at, unless you are a pro angler and sponsored you do not need anything else
I don’t use spinning rods but for comparable spec casting Lite Pro and GX2 the Lite Pro definitely feels lighter to me. I remember they used to advertise them as having 35% more graphite than a gx2. They feel very similar to the Elite I have of the same specs and virtually the same as my Intercoastal UglyStik.
This was a good video, I like the comparison. I think we have all found how we like to use these rods. The Ugly Stik is my go to for catfish (carp if I ever went carp fishing), gar, redfish, or frog bodies for bass. When I want to do other types of bass fishing, and when going for panfish, I like to use a lightweight setup.
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
I would love to see a more in depth look at the ugly stik lite pro, Ive been seeing them pop up at walmart lately and ive been considering it as a second rod.
I've had my Gx2 for alot of years now and love it. It has been through alot and I'll need to replace my reel this coming summer. The original reel has just become too bent and beat up. It still works, but I want to get something new as far as the reel goes. It has been a good set-up.
The light pro doubles back as a catfishing rod. Ive caught several 20lb catfish on mine with no issues. Can't just drag them in like an ugly stik catfish rod but they will handle some big ones!
I got the gx2 6’6 custom medium mod fast basically like the one you have i wanna pair it with a stratus VI svi45 I don’t know if it’s a 3000 or 4000 reel but if their a good size for it what size of braid would you recommend
I have the GX2 and the Lite Pro the Lite Pro I use for Carp fishing the GX2 I use for Bass fishing stiff back but it’s nothing to look at I personally like the cork better than the foam I also don’t like the reel seat on the GX2 mine makes a cracking noise every time I hook up I want to get the Elite for bass fishing and try it out
So I bought one from Walmart a month ago very cheap, this is 2022 now so I’m not sure what they call my model but it seems cool. I’m fishing Trout and Bass mainly but all the other fish in between so I’m gonna make this pole my main large mouth bass pole or whatever other large fish is out there. I wish they made a 7.5’ ultra lite rod for trout but that doesn’t seem to be the case, what is the absolute best trout rod and reel out there regardless of the brand? Thank you in advance
To answer your question and this is going to be just my opinion and keep in mind I’m not a huge trout fisherman, and I don’t spend a lot of time looking at ultralight rods. With that being said I have used very nice rods from Pflueger and st croix that were great feeling combos and some bass pro shops house branded ultra lite combos that did as well. There are many others out there by shimano, 13 fishing, and just about every other brand out there that feel good and do the job well, it ultimately comes down to how it feels to you at that point. I would say start looking at Pflueger though. I hope this helps!
Why not go with any type Ugly Stik rated Ultra Lite? I have 2, an old one and a pro elite. Both same action and are excellent. $43 for the Pro Elite...
I own the Elite in ultra light. It's a 5 foot rod though. At the Cabelas I bought it from all the 6'6" Elites were only available in medium. I love it. It feels like a rubber band in my hand. Unbelievably soft fishin rod. Runnin 4lb Berkley Trilene for mainline, cause it casts the farthest and use 3lb fluorocarbon leader. I use it exclusively for small (under 1.5lb) fish. There's 2 lakes near me. One has stocked rainbow trout, never bigger than 400 grams. The other has largemouth bass, but they're all small. Never caught one over 2lbs. It's so sensitive I can feel the rattle from Rapalas in my hand when I reel and when I hook one, it feels like I've hooked a small salmon on my heavy Shimano rod lol. Great fun, exactly what I wanted. But I wouldn't think of trying to catch anything large with it.
I have the 1 piece gx2 spinning rod in medium and it’s a beast of a rod but the handle is too heavy and makes the setup feel a bit unbalanced.. I should have bought the next model down ..
It’s about a 6 I bought the medium also expecting to be medium action I would say it’s more medium light honestly if you want a try medium I would try medium heavy I have one of those now as well and like it much better than the medium
I've got lite pros and a gx's The lite pro far out performs the gx by a mile And when the lite pro was discontinued Then the elite appeared for $25 more Both have 35% more graphite And feel the same to me Nice try ugly stik 🤔
Thanks for the idea, yea the carbon would win hands down, very light, sensitive, durable, and all around comfortable to fish with. The GX2 mainly shines in the area of being indestructible.
@@bluecollaroutdoors5556 👍👍👍 Some say casting distance is shorter for "carbon rod" because of stiffer rod. (By how much margin GX2 will win in terms of indestructible?) Will carbon rod break into two easily?
The only thing i don't like is the reel seat (the plastic) That's a no go for me fishing in salt water and in kayak. And medium action/sensitivity better for crankbait or spoons but not great for soft baits. The reel seat suck period. It need to be changed. I won't fish pike and largemouth bass with the elite....
The 2 piece medium elite sucks ass, it's way too flexible. Compare it to a 1 piece medium and it's super skinny. It's more like a lite or ultra lite rod. Only get a 1 piece medium if you actually want medium
They ruined the ugly stick with the junk guides and flex and performance! It was a great fast moving bait rod and no longer is and is not a bottom contact bait rod like Texas rig i had to switch to a different rod brand!
@@Therealtrollking if you make a comment like that at least try to know what you are talking about these use to have aluminum oxide guides full stainless reel seats and no carbon but the best flexible fiberglass rod ever made! Man. You really hit the mark on this review, the gx2 is better overall. I’m loving the carbon ugly though. A good mix of both

I did hook a 16 lb carp with the Gx2 , no sweat. These rods can handle pretty much any fish you throw at them.
I used to use Ugly Stik bass rods for catfishing and carp fishing. It was a lot of fun.
Well get on back out there; they waitin!

I just love UGLY STIKS PERIOD!!!
Hey! i'm planning to get the Ugly Stick Elite 702UL or 702M for saltwater fishing on kayak & boat... do you recommend it?
Would you recommend these rods for UK pike fishing
Ugly Stick Elite 2 piece
Medium power with
Pflueger president 30 or
Okuma Stratus 30
I’ve never fished the Okuma, but I do like the Pflueger and it works great!
Just got an Ugly Stik Elite Graphite for 35.00 on Ebay new!! Had to get it due to the deal and price. Less than a GX2 for the Elite, sold.

Do some videos for kast king rods
From what I've seen, for bass fishing you want the 7' medium heavy, fast action one piece rod.
Nice nice
Does your rod have a little weight mechanism in the bottom of the cork? The elite?
Like a rattle?
Is gx2 okay with live bait
Oh yea, would work great
Thank you for your service 👍
No problem, thanks for your support!!!
The GX2 looks much better presented and clean no threads showing.
DId he completely glance over the cost of the Elite, or did I miss it . . .
