I've broken so much Shakespeare gear over the years. Mostly due to the fact that I'm so clumbsy. But ugly stick has never failed me. It's like the ultimate gear for people who accidentally break stuff all the time.
The only ugly stick I ever broke I slammed in a truck door trying to escape ravenous mosquitoes, waiting on my ugly tuff reel as we speak, I hope I’m not disappointed

Many of these new Ugly Tuff spinning reels are hard to click the bail over by cranking the handle. The reason? Shakespeare put a thick rubber gasket between the body and the the rotor. The purpose is for waterproofing the main body/gears etc. Unless you fish where your reel is getting soaked this gasket is not necessary. Remove the rotor, you will see the black gasket on top of the main body .Carefully pry it off and reassemble. Easy bail closing and super smooth cranking and bail closing (If you fish that way.. not manual closing)Built like a tank. Not the lightest reel but highly fishable. Best deal out there for a quality long lasting reel.
who just starts reeling and let the bail flop over . Making an annoying sound. A lot of reels these days will not do that. It's a very easy habit to get into manually flipping the bail.

The pond is overstocked with small bass,, they won't get bigger until you remove a few of those little bass so the others can grow,, keep a few to eat, or put em in another pond, but get some of em out of there, and the others will plump up quickly..dig it

It would be a beast of a pond with bait added. And to save you some $$$. Go to some creeks known to have a ton of Crawfish. Set traps catch some by hand. That will help because you get enough you get them breeding in there.

Ayo!! For a killer catfish bait, take hotdogs n cut them up into half inch pieces and let them sit in red koolaid powder and garlic powder overnight. The red makes it look bloody and the garlic gives it some stank, works wonders! The good eating sized cats love it

What my buddy did with his pond is selective harvest. We kept and ate the small bass to give the rest more to eat amongst them.
Add Gambusia affinis [mosquito fish] they are 1-2 inch live bearers and will breed quickly if there is cover & they wont compete for the bass' food.
I know this video is a year old now but I'm so glad you were helping this place the fish 🐟 needed some love for sure this ecosystem is missing something you should do another video there now a year later

Didn't even know about the Ugly Stick Reel until today. I've always loved their rods. My catfish combo has always been 30lb braid with three 3/4oz bullets, a bullet float wedged onto a steel leader with a 3/0 or 4/0 hook and 4 or 5 dead minnows. Cast it, pull it tight, give an arm full of slack, loosen the drag, then listen for the clicks.
Aeration in the pond will allow your fish to be more active, requiring you to feed them more. To start, we recommend feeding one-half to one pound of pellets per surface acre of water two to three times per day. Google it.
Gotta love the ugly series from shakepear, I've got 2 of them as casting combos one med fast for general stuff and one heavy for my frogging and jigging
we fed fish at a friends pond by taking onion sacks and filling them with meat and hanging them from trees over hanging the pond. flies lay eggs and maggots form and as they feed they drop from the holes in the onion sack into the water. will feed the fish for weeks with pure protein without much work.
Well built reel but a tad heavy. No anti reverse switch. It is on all the time. If you are one who uses the handle to close the bail ...there is a thick rubber gasket between the rotor and the reel for water proofing. Until broken in it will be harder to turn the reel as the bail is closed by turning the handle. Just spinning the reel is not be affected by the gasket.... only when closing the bail. I removed the gasket in all 3 of my reels and all 3 work excellent. If you don't mind a tad extra weight this reel is a steal. Well built. Smooth operation. Strong and smooth drag. Top reel especially for the price.
Caught a 9lb stealhead on a pink ugly stick. Hundreds of Kokanee, rock cod, trout. They're clunky rods/reels but they work pretty darn good. 👍

Working on a pond that is starving as well. You have to do a few things. First you need to take some of the stunted fish out and make sure there isn’t crappie or green sunfish. Then stock with variety of bait. Fathead minnow, golden shiner and bluegill. Get bluegill as large as you can so they can survive and spawn.
Always a interesting day when you catch A fish in you rectal Cavity..

I once worked on this job where the guy had a private pond. He had an automatic feeder that would go off at 5:00 everyday at the same time. All he had in it was pellets that you can get from any feed store cheap. The fish would bubble to the top of the water like crazy. You can save it without a lot of work and cheap is what I’m getting at.

I rocked an ugly stik for YEARS till a rogue wave capsized my yak. The mellow yellow lives with the lingcod now. Probably still shlocking them under the waves

I've got a Shakespeare 7000 spinning reel I use for surf fishing. Got it in the mid 90s and it's still going strong. Spooled with 40 pound monofilament. Couldn't tell you how many tailor, mulloway and other beach monsters it's pulled up.

Bro you may want to put a fish feeder out there. It will be easier on your pocket and give more fish a chance. Maybe two fish feeders. I think you will get fast results too. Also fertilize that pond to grow micro organisms to feed the bait fish.

Went and fished a pond right near my house today its about a 5 minute walk but on the way there I got bit by fire ants and stung by stickers. Got to the pond fished it for over two hours, lost 2 baits, and didn't catch a single fish and I was covered in sweat because it was 100 degrees outside today. I saw bass jumping and got bit 2 times but didn't get any and walked back home and got stung by stickers again. I came home completely tired, sweaty, and dissatisfied and then decided to take a dip in the pool, and that was the best swim I've ever had the water was perfect and warm but also cool and refreshing.A long day of hard work and disappointment was all taken away by that great relaxing time in the pool.
You might want to put a fish feeder put where the old dock was it will help in between with you put live food in the pound

The box stores rod and reels are not what they were when I was a youngster ! The classic yellow ugly stick was standard at every walmart in 6 7 8 and even 9 foot versions ! The quantum reels were everywhere and decent enough ! You could get 3 rods and reels for next to nothing at k mart and go catch fish anywhere !
