If you are desparate so you start throwing trout magnets on 2# line it will take so much time for that 1/64th jig to hit the bottom it won't be and issue, however. If you don't have an ultralight with light line you may not be able to cast the tiny lures to the fish. I'd rather go ultralight than get skunked.

I did build a 10' crappie rod and it's nice for that.

Agreed by the way, no one will be selling my fishing equipment haha That's pretty awesome you were able to rebuild some gear you bought from a $1 dollar garage sale haha. Thanks so much for the comment and for tuning... I really appreciate it.
Hey @timg185... I agree with you on the fiberglass ugly stiks, but the ultra light composite rods are actually really good in my opinion. I also think these rods are really awesome money for value if you are bait fishing and you don't necessarily need super sensitive rods (like my catfishing videos). To your point though, no doubt the graphite rods are WAY more sensitive... I agree... Thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in. Sorry for such a long delay in my response.
@@Johnnyfishalot I get it . I think everyone should get what their budget allows and those ugly sticks do work great for cat fish. Just pointing out there are benefits to higher end rods . Depending on what kind of fishing you do.

If own 1 rod? I own over a 100 rods, vintage Garcia's, All Star & Castaway's made in Houston, Surf, Catfish, Standup Boat, Deep Sea Roller Guide Rods! But the ones I use the most! Are my Ultralight Rods, some are inexpensive and a couple custom built 4'6" spinning rods! A couple of Great Built Youth Casting Rods by Gander Mountain that I don't believe are made any longer? But fishing with the Mitchell/Garcia 3800's, Penn SS 4200, Shimano Calcutta 51's. Are still my favorite way to fish these Houston Bayous and are easy to hump up & down the banks and a breeze to cast on tree lined and Hawthorne Shoulder high grass banks! With line no heavier than 10 lb, or spinning reels with 4-8 lb nano thread, it looks like sewing tread but is strong as steel wire! With 6' 15 lb shock leaders. And fishing small baits, 1/4 oz spinnerbaits and jig & pigs are deadly on fish up to 10 lb Bayou Muskies (Alligator Gar), and Bass, Crappie and Catfish believe it or not? And the ultralight Pop-R's are the real killer baits! Fishing ultralight makes catching 1-3 lb fish like catching World Record Fish! But at almost 70! The knot tying on those small lures a real task in patients and getting the line through the lure eye! Need to teach my grandsons how to make a loop knot! CMTFU
Hey Michael... So sorry for the delayed response, work has been nuts lately... what a great comment and post!! Thanks so much. I couldn't agree more with you... ultralight fishing is so soooooo underrated and I don't think enough people understand how many more bites you trigger using ultralight gear... Plus, to your point is a blast catching any size of fish with it. I love it. Thanks again for watching and the comment.
Hey @okish02... Thanks so much for watching and the comment.... It is an ultralight power rod meaning it doesn't take much to bend it, it is definitely a slow to moderate slow action rod... but.... I think there is too much on youtube out there on fast action rods and non "noodly" rods... you actually want significant bend in these rods because you are going to be jigging extremely light jigs and ultralight gear (i think your going ultralight fishing right?? haha)... you don't want super fast action because you'll end up not giving those baits the necessary subtle action to trigger bites. Also, the bend in the rod is also great for allowing the fish to get those ultralight lures in there mouths and not ripping lures out of the fishes mouths on hook sets... Give it a whirl... I know so many people I put onto ultralight fishing who now fish with super light power rods for bigger bass and saltwater fish as well.... Thanks so much!! I hope that helped!!
Just my 2-cents, I use an OTX brand from Wally world, the Grit Stick, 4'-6" UL. Strong & light and sensitive, the sensitivity comes from using braid as your main line.
Thanks GNAFishing... appreciate the comment and you tuning into the channel. I find the problem with braid and ultralight fishing is that it is not abbrasion resistant at all and often times you can catch some really nice fish on ultralight line. Having a very sensitive rod will allow you to use mono which has a lot of shock absorption and stretch to allow you a lot of flexibility in your fishing. Additionally, the mono wants to float, which allows all your ultralight presentations to sink just that much slower triggering more bites. The line diameter of 2lb or 4 lb mono is also very thin, which also triggers more bites bc the fish don't detect your line as much (similar to braid). I'm glad your having success with your rods though!! Good luck out there and tight lines... I hope this post helps clarify the advantage of some rods over another.
Yeah, Ive definitely seen those, but I never have fished with a collapsable rod... how do you like it? I imagine the sensitivity is affected because of the moving parts of the rod design?? Honestly my favorite combo is the okuma ceymar paired with the St Croix panfish series rod, with 2lb SOS trout line, just like I discussed in the video... Let me know if you have any questions... Thanks so much for tuning in and the comment.
Honestly I went back to carrying an ultra light setup with me. Sometimes targeting bass and larger fish in my area is tough. Nothing like hooking up some crappie and blue gill back to back. I shelled up money for a decent ultralight setup to enjoy. Will try that st croix pan fish rod one of these days!
Hey @tgsn_ sorry for the delay... that's awesome news... I'm just like you. I carry my ultralight gear with me everywhere now a days. I use it to catch my bait, I use it on big fish, I use it for small fish. It literally catches everything!! That st croix panfish series rod is just incredible definitely work the extra money, and the sensitivity of the rod is just phenominal... let me know if you ever take the plunge and pick one up. you won't be disappointed I'm sure ;)
I've just received a 12ft carbon fibre.hunter pro.sea venom 36. It has rubber stopper at the end of the middle and top sections. Which makes it difficult to insert into the ferals. Do they stay in or should the be removed first
Hey Michael... Thanks so much for the question and for tuning in... I'm assuming you are saying there is a stopper in the middle and top of the rod itself?? for any rubber stoppers on the rod at the base were the handle is I will leave those... I don't own any rods with stoppers on the base of the rod/blank itself, but I would remove those.... Hope this helps. THanks again.
Yeahhhh those fenwicks are pretty good. I've used those a bunch in the past... I think you'll like the uglystik... light weight, durable, affordable, all the things people look for in rods. They get a little bit of a bad rap from largemouth fishlaots for their lack of super sensitivity, but they are great rods. Have you fished with it yet? how are you liking it?
Hey I agree with your the first one cuz I have a rod ugly stik was a ultralight and I hooked up a northern pike and I managed to land it and it was 4’8 ultralight
Hey @herbie-outdoor-fishing NICEEEE!!!! Glad to hear! yeah I think Ugly sticks get a bad rap because of so many largemouth bass fish a lots out there who don't really understand what the rod was meant for. I love my ugly sticks!!! Thanks for the great comment. Glad you enjoyed the video!!

Ive had a Celio now for about 5 years have caught tons of fish on it. Recently a 10lb Channel cat on it. However, it doesnt throw anything under 1/16th oz ( its sweet spot it seems) that great. I have a TFO Panfish/Trout that can. Yet its strong enough to land that 10lb catfish i mentioned earlier if the need arises. However, that cost 5 times what the Celio retails for. II did manage to get the outgoing model on sale. I hated the split handle but got use to it. I just wish the rod was cheaper..
Niceeeee Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and have some experience with the gear!! I love hearing feedback like this. What size line are you using on the celilo? Just curious, I use 2lb mono and i am able to cast 1/64 and 1/32 ounce jig heads pretty well... I'm just wondering if you have heavier line on (like 4 or 6 pound mono) if that is making a big difference in the distance casting. I do love the celilo, no doubt, and yeah it can handle some big fish, but my favorite is definitely that st croix panfish series rod. Your 100% correct, costs 5x the amount though. Pros and cons to everything haha. So what is your favorite panfish rod? the TFO or the Celilo or something else? Great comment... your spot on!! Thanks for tuning in and participating in the conversation.
@@Johnnyfishalot Ive mostly used 6lb but occasionally have used 4lb. Ive never tried 2lb test. I think the TFO Trout/Panfish is better its a bit more flexible. It can cast 1/32oz pretty effectively. However, for years i used the Celio and it wasnt utnil i got the TFO rod last year did it make a difference. I did want to get the St Croix just didnt want to spend that $ for a UL rod. I had got a god deal on the TFO-Panfish/Trout so i splurged. I also liked the Cadence essence the action is great. However, the rod proved to brittle. It broke 2 mos before the warranty they replaced it and that one broke again...Unfortunately right after the warranty...I may splurge and get that St Croix Panfish rod lol..
I have to say I still got my Shakespeare ugly stik gx2 after 5 years and it's still going strong I live in the UK so I mainly use it for trout and parrot fishing
Hey @leegrant1800 yeah I 100% agree... those ugly sticks are amazing little rods... here in the USA they get a bad rap from all the largemouth fisherman, bc they say they are not sensitive enough, but used right and these things are worth their weight in gold... Thanks so much for watching and the comment... always great to hear from the folks in the UK!! Hope all is well
I can't seem to find the Okuma in anything but a two-piece rod. Is that what you are using? I don't see a product link for these rods. Loved the video and I appreciate the differing perspectives. I am a novice but super fast does not seem to be the best tool for a "paper mouth" fish!
Hey @rickr9055... my apologies for not including the links... I will definitely work to update the rest of my videos. Thanks for tuning in and leaving your comment. I love hearing from you guys!! Yes, I do use the two piece. I'm normally not a fan of the two piece rods, but with the Celilo I haven't noticed a difference in 1 piece vs 2 piece, the graphite is still very sensitive. The link you are looking for is right here (sorry about that): amzn.to/3wKyjVh This will bring you to an amazon page with multiple length rods. For bank fishing I'd recommend the 5'6" or 6'6" (depending on the overhangs, and coverage your fishing under) for kids I'd recommend the 5' rod, its easier for them to handle. I've always loved my Finwicks. I have the Finwick Eagle and HMG. From what I hear of the HMX , it will take a chunk out of St Croix sells. Fuji guides and seat .....I gotta get it for trout. I recently broke my Finwick Eagle after 7 years. Someone stepped on it. I replaced it with a Favorite Brush Dobber. Nice rod for $40 one piece. Spur of the moment buy. A light medium. That's what I have been using instead of ultralight lately. I'm gonna be ready for the big one and not gonna have a story about the one that got away. 😅
They don't make the HMX anymore or the elite tech river runner , Fenwick really shrunk their trout/panfish lines to only the Eagle which is now basically the HMX and the HMG .
Hey David... Good to hear from you... Yes, I've also used Fenwicks as well. They are little more expensive these days than some of the other rod selections though... I do like Fenwicks... Do you plan to purchase the Eagle again? Those are great rods. if your looking for a less expensive ultralight option though, try out that shakespeare ugly stick. My opinion of course.

Six foot rod was perfect for Yak fishing. Caught everything from crappie to 25-30 pound shark while surf fishing Canaveral National Seashore. Star uses what they call E-Glass ---- regardless killer spinning rod. Oklahoma Striper Guide i came across a couple months ago uses BPS Fish Eagle. $80 Bucks currently ---- i'll be buying one for 2025 fishing season !
Hey Hunter!! Great comment / post... I don't disagree with you, I think you can do some good damage fishing with less expensive rods for sure! Good video, living over in europe i must say I do wish we had bass here, they arent the biggest or hardest fighting fish in the world but they seem to want to take just about anything and they would for sure be a fun fight on an UL
Hey @kodiwtf thanks so much for watching, the kind words, and the comment. Sorry for the delay in response, been a busy few weeks over here. Yeah I have to say, largemouth are a lot of fun and for the exact reason you just mentioned they are the most popular fish in the USA... I have to say though, you guys in europe have some pretty amazing carp fishing!!! The grass is always greener... right? hahaha I do a lot of fishing for different fish, but yeah largemouth fishing is always a lot of fun and you can absolutely catch them anywhere here in the USA. Thanks again!
@@Johnnyfishalot No worries at all! And unfortunately where i'm from carp are not native, however I am a member of a fishery so I do have the option to catch carp around 10-20lb, but over in france or spain you could get carp up to 100lb. I'm big into preadator fishing personally, I mainly target pike, perch , brown and rainbow trout. Next year i'm hoping to hook into a salmon and maybe even a ferox (which are native to ireland)
Thanks so much for tuning in and for the comment Rich!! Really appreciate it. Yeah I 100% agree with you. Better to fish within your price range than out of your price range. Hopefully this video showed that you can catch a lot of fish the 50 and 20 dollar fishing rod options!! Thanks again for the comment. Really appreciate it.
I have tried a bunch of different ultralight rods the past 4 years, some I still have, and some went into the trash. The worst so far was the berkley lightning rod. The best so far, ugly stik elite ultralight in 5'. Why? Because it never broke. I'll admit I can be clumsy with my rods, but I'm always fishing in places where my rod can get damaged and ugly stik hasn't let me down in that department. The elite series are graphite, so they're not too bad for sensitivity. But I value durability more than anything else, nothing worse than spending $150+ on a rod only to have to deal with a warranty or waste money buying another one.
HEy there @pray4mojo1 That is a great shout... I get a lot of folks bad mouthing ugly stick because they don't really know the advantages of the rod... Correct... I was talking about ugly stik more generally and then showed that marketing piece... the ugly stik ultralight version is much lighter... as I showed in the pop up, sorry if that was confusing... I actually have 4 different ugly stik rods from ultralight all the way up to offshore and they're all great for what I bought them to do! Thanks for tuning in and the comment. Sorry for any confusion there...
You think an ugly stick is easy to break??? They are moderate action rods that literally bend to the handle... I've fished with them for many years and never broke one... curious how you broke yours?? Thanks for the comment. I have never used an indonesian relix rod before, so I can't compare the two... Sounds good though!
I own a capung and an ugly stik as well amongst other rods. I rarely use the stik since I bought the capung. Quite surprised you managed to break a stik. My capung broke though. just like that second cast. Still doesn't know how it happened. But I have to say it's my favourite rod and the best rod I've ever used. I do not have any sponsors on this channel... and not sure what you mean about a strong rod in the sea? We catch Marlin, tuna, sharks all sorts of huge fish with rods that withstand a lot of abuse.
Thanks for watching DAvesubers3415... The ulgy stick can be on sale for $20 bucks like it was when I made the video, but in the video I said you can get it for under 50 bucks... The rod is usually around the 50 dollar range... The celilo is normally around 40- 60 without a sale going on and the St Croix panfish series rod is usually about $120.00... No $200 dollar rod mentioned in the video... also I think this is a good spread of rods for value... 1 composite that doesn't break the bank, 1 graphite that is affordable to most, and 1 graphite that is an upgrade, but still doesn't break the bank. Hope this helps!! Thanks for watching!!
@rogerfranz1152 I just broke my 6'6" fenwick hmg on a tiny smallmouth bass. 2nd fenwick down in the last 2 years. I don't really recommend them to be honest.
Thanks for watching Wolverinex... yeah I've heard that before... typically comes from largemouth bass fisherman who turn their nose up to the value that ugly stick does have for most people... truth is ugly sticks are good rods for all sorts of fishing that is not super sensitive finesse fishing... An ultralight ugly stick is perfectly fine for just about any ultralight fishing application and the best part for most folks out there is it doesn't break the bank. Of course this was my first recommendation and since you tuned out of the video early I move the recommendations up from there. Thanks again for watching, hope this helps.

Great vidieo. I just ordered the 5’6 celilo. Is it fast action or too noodly ? I’ll be using for jigs .
@ Thanks for info . I fish for bass both smallmouth and large mouth with ultra light and light action . No panfish lol .
Is there collapsable rod & reel for backpacking. I have a TenKara Rod. I would like a ultralight combo.
I just picked up a 6'-6" ultralight UglyStik. Still have my Fenwick ultralight rod, too. Pricey, but I got it 20+ years ago.
Could you please tell me which reel would be best to pair with a okuma celilo 6’6 rod.
Hey @Alenmathew9383 thanks so much for watching and the question!!! I'd highly recommend the Okuma Ceymar C10:
okuma Ceymar Spinning Reel Size 10 - 5Lb Max Drag Pressure: amzn.to/3LOH0Qk
Let me know if you have any questions... thanks again!
The link you are looking for is right here (sorry about that):

This will bring you to an amazon page with multiple length rods.

Yes exactly correct @rosariocannistraro3561 Fenwick only runs their four lines of reels now... Still good though, but definitely limited.
@@rosariocannistraro3561 I got a nice one a month ago for 50% off . Guns and Ammo store did not want to deal with fishing gear anymore. I also got much more than that.
Ugly stik really does make some great rods under 50 bucks! I will say that I do enjoy rods in the $150 range for a variety of different fish, like blackfish, black drum, different wreck fish!!
Best equipment for you is the equipment you can afford . ( especially in recent year's tough times ) IMO
I can't agree with you more, especially if you are fishing with bite indication like a bobber or something. Ugly stick def has a place in my fishing rod arsenal!! Thanks again for the great comment.
You need to find you an aluminum rod sounds like
Hey man, thanks for the insight! Florida bass angler here, and I’ve been itching to feel the fights a bit more! (usually catching 1-7 pounders) you’ve got me interested in the last rod you featured! Love the video. Thanks again
Hey @thepigglywigglyshow Great to hear from you! Thanks for tuning in and watching the video... I have to say for some reason ultralight fishing for largemouth is largely ignored, but its such a great way to trigger bites when the fish are really being finicky... Yeah 1-7 lb bass would be awesome on ultralight and that St Croix Panfish rod is really awesome!! If your interested, check this video out where I use exactly this rod and okuma ceymar to catch some really big bass in NJ (not 7lbs big, but really nice fish)... Thanks for watching Thomas... my link contains all the sizes of the Okuma Fishing reel... you have to click on the correct size of the reel. The Okuma Ceymar 10 (ultralight) in my link is currently 48 dollars... If you click on the larger reels they will be more money... I recommend the ultralight. Also, this video was made a little while ago and prices are subject to change. 48 bucks for a great ultralight reel is still a great deal!! I'd recommend this reel. Thanks again.

Correct... I do not have any sponsors on this channel... and not sure what you mean about a strong rod in the sea? We catch Marlin, tuna, sharks all sorts of huge fish with rods that withstand a lot of abuse.
$20 to $200 nothing in between
Thanks for watching DAvesubers3415...
Found a Fenwick 6.6 rod its sorta in the mid point
@rogerfranz1152 I just broke my 6'6" fenwick hmg on a tiny smallmouth bass. 2nd fenwick down in the last 2 years. I don't really recommend them to be honest.
Cross my fingers mine no snap
If you recommend an Ugly Stix, you're not liable. I'm out before this video gets to half point.
