Love my Ugly Stik GX2’s! 9 feet long, medium with a fast action tip. Caught a 15 pound flathead catfish with it. Rod bent double, but had plenty of leverage and control. I was able to move the fish to where I wanted him but at the same time got the feel of fighting a monster. It wasn’t a monster but what a fight. GX2’s are light but strong. Fished Ugly Stik all my life, never broke one yet. I’m 64 years old. I have Ugly Stick Rods that I have owned for over 20 years. One of the biggest knocks I have heard against the GX2’s is they aren’t sensitive. I say bullshit! I fish with my GX2’s for bluegill and crappie. I am able to feel the most subtle bites. A small tap and fish on! Ugly Stik rods are the most versatile value for the money. Sure you can spend a lot more for specialty rods. But why, when you can do the same thing with an Ugly Stik for a whole lot cheaper price!
Thanks for sharing this video. Just invested in an entry level ugly stik combo. It feels great in the hand. Reeling is very smooth. Plan to try it out this weekend.
The tiger 20 to 50 pound my new favorite it's like the improved gx2 more top grip above the reel. I have been using it for striper catfish, blue fish so far. If you like the gx2 you will love this ugly stick. I own and use gx2 and tiger only .i skipped the inshore the tiger better. All the inshore weight ratings less for same sensitivity being same. I'm a waiting to see if Jc tries this one. His area to fish was mine a long time ago. Nothing like hitting a tarpon on a ugly stick and making it work. It's when you find out how good your gear is. Loads of fun.
Ugly Stiks will take some abuse. Maybe not as suited for finesse fishing but they can get the job done. If I have guests that need to use my gear, I will take one of my reels and put it on a Stik. I've learned the hard way not to hand one of my more delicate rods to someone who doesn't appreciate what they're fishing with. Hey JC, this is some great info you are offering on Ugly Stik rods. Those were the only rods I used growing up. 100% most bang for your buck on the market. If you're looking to gear up and get out fishing without breaking the bank, Ugly's are the way to go. Personally, I like a rod with the longer handle and butt section, definitely a leverage thing. I love putting my light gear through a good beating with fish that more than likely outclass the hardware. So, I'm partial to the foam handles and that Gx2 where the entire top part spin is some innovative product. Thank you for taking time to create content and put together the episodes that are informing and educational. I know it's more than hitting record and upload. I am just watching your video for the first time, too late to use your links. The point I am going to make is about your ugly stick elite. I am happy to report, the ugly stick elite handle is much improved in the year since you made this video. The upper part of the handle which you show, is very small. On the model I just received today, is about 4 X longer than the one you have. Therefore, it is obvious Shakespeare saw there was a serious issue with that small top handle and have more than tripled its length. Mine is an 8' 6" heavy with fast action rod. I am not sure if that is the reason why the top handle is so much longer than the one you demonstrated. Maybe they felt a longer top handle was over kill on your shorter medium weight rod. The top size lure I can handle is 1 3/4 ounce lure on 12 to 25 pound line.
I have a 2 piece 8’6” Elite casting rod, it has the inshore handle and reel seat. I only fish ugly stick. I have ugly sticks that are 20-25 years old that I still use almost daily, and I have some newer gx2 rods that I love as well. Ugly stick is my go to brand for fishing rods, but I’m not so picky with reels, I get cheap stuff from walmart and lately amazon, I have a couple piscifuns and I love them, but we’ll see how they hold up long term...

One for sure unless you need to break it down for storing. I have the GX2 in a two piece and it's actually my favorite of the three, Elite, GX2 and Inshore Select.
Thank you!
What’s the reel on the inshore? Have that rod, looking to get a decent reel
Thanks for asking. That reel broke after three months of use. I have Penn Pursuit 4000 reels that are reasonably prices and very durable. Penn Pursuit 2 Reel amzn.to/2yxwfju
I go with Intercoastal, all around rod for every situation. Ugly Stik- because pretty don't catch fish! ; ) ~ keep Chasing Wild!
Thanks for sharing. I'll check that one out.
Just got a 7ft intercoastal 1 piece to punch heavy cover on a local lake. i paired it with abu garcia black max spin reel realy smooth and the rod performed flawlessly.
I am about to go get the intercoastal casting rod to pair with the black max 3 bait caster i broke a berkley clean in half i will never buy another.
Hi , which of these rods do you recommend for spinning fishing from shore or surfspinning?
What are you fishing for?
@@RadReelingFishing Hi, well in spanish: róbalos, cortinas, lenguados, lisas. Nothing too big. Máx 4-5 kg
The longer the rod the further you will be able to cast. I like the GX2 Ugly Stik the best for the size fish you are targeting. I use the medium sized one. The Snook in this video was caught on the GX2: ua-cam.com/video/_uj3-b1eAKc/v-deo.html
Have you tried the Ugly Stik Carbon?
No I have not. Is that the lightweight rod?
@@RadReelingFishing Yes. I have read reviews were people say it preforms great for saltwater fishing as well. Maybe that could be a new content video for you.
Good idea! Thanks for sharing.
What reel (all black) is on the inshore select?
That reel went bad in three months. It's a piscifun, not recommended.
Is the Elite you have the Handle style A?
Which ever one is in the video.
Would you recommend the elite over the gx2 ?
I like the GX2 the best.
What reel do you have on the inshore select
Junk reel...It broke after three months of use. Piscifun.
What type of reel you have on the inshore select?
Thanks for asking. Junk reel, bad experience with that brand.
I bought the gx2 4pcs construction spin rod but the issue is the tip is not straight im disappoint 😞
Sounds like a little time will be spent exchanging it. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Nice review
Thanks for watching and commenting.
What reel is on the inshore?
I don't promote that brand anymore. I've owned two of their reels and both broke with in a few months.
How much does the inshore weigh?
I don't know, but it's very light because it's all graphite.
Nice comparision video. Which reel is attached with ugly stik elite rod?
Penn Pursuit 2 4000 Reel
amzn.to/2yxwfju
is the inshore select med or med/hev?
It's medium heavy.
@@RadReelingFishing thx
I think the elite is meant more for bass or smaller fish. I just ordered one (ultra light 6’6) for pan fishing.
I’d get the inshore, if I was going for bigger fish.
Yeah, I agree, the elite is a little less stout. I have the 7' 6" Inshore Select and find it's really good for making long casts. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Rad Reeling Fishing awesome, so would you say the inshore would be good for fishing from the beach, in the gulf?
Yes for sure.
Is the inshore rod 2 piece
no
Great video JC, I like the length of the butt on my rod to be the same length as my forearm or else it hits my chest while setting the hook. Keep it the good work
Thanks for sharing. What's your favorite rod?
What it kind of reel is the all black one on the big rod
Ha ha ha... Piscifun Carbon X 4000

Thanks you saved me $..
Awesome! I'm glad you found value in the video.
@@RadReelingFishing I have a ? ,is the BG 4000 paired up with a GX2 good for surff Snook fishing..
The tiny top handles are silly trendy and useless , i have 4 Ugly sticks but not small handle models.
Thanks now go fishing
Ha ha...I'm researching a new area. I might make the trip tomorrow. Thanks for the encouraging words.
Rad Reeling Fishing that marina close by looked awful good
It’s where the fish are, it’s not the rod and reel
I’m new to angling and I wanted tog TE a good rod to start my hobby off with. If I went for an ugly stik elite medium 7 foot would it pair well with a 4000 bail reel? Would it still be as balanced as a 2500-3000 series reel?
I use a 2500 and 4000 sized reels on my Uglystik Elite. The key is to get a big fish so it isn't balanced, ha ha...Seriously, I haven't felt that either reel made the rod feel awkward.
