The Monte Carlo has always been a favorite of mine, the fact that you could have swivel bucket seats, from 73-77, that made entry & exit nice, too bad that the days of personal luxury cars & that niche market no longer exists, that long hood short deck styling just looked so appealing, the fact that you could custom order a new car was more fun because it represents your sense of taste in color keyed trim instead of the boring trend today, but that was then this is now!!!
The body style was so beautiful then and now. This was a great car if you lived in a potholed city and wanted a comfortable ride. Its pluses outweighed the negatives (lack of road feel, gas hog) and reliability was reasonable. I think the price however was exhorbitant. Anyone know how much they were in the marketplace? I would love to hear about this. Did a ton of the msrp go to fancy bodywork, scores of color and trim combinations?
@@theemulsionalchemist5688 You can’t overlook the effect of the myriad of federal mandates on Detroit at the time. The bumpers affected the looks and added weight. The safety crash standards as well… these meant less sport and gas mileage. GM did the best they could to mitigate these demands, and this era of Monte looked incredible. Look at that folded glass backlight!
I've owned the same 77 Monte for 30 years now. Can't believe it's that long! Only use it in nice weather. Its not stock anymore. Little more HP. Love driving that car.
The “Colonnade” style Monte’s were the most attractive of all. The were very popular and sold like crazy. I do recall seeing more ‘76 models than any of the other years in the Toronto area. That was the first year of the stacked mini square headlamps, guess that new feature was really appealing. Cars looked good going around a NASCAR track as well.
I have a ‘76 model that I bought a few years ago to use as a winter car.. needless to say it saw only one winter before I began to restore it. It runs like a dream with a 400 small block, bench seats, and power windows/locks. It was the last year an engine that big made it into a Chevy. In 2022 I drove it 350 miles to NYC and back to pick up a stranded friend. It ran all day and didn’t burn any oil. What a gal.
My dad had a 75 dark burgundy monte carlo with the 454 center console bucket seats very similar to these ones in the your video traded it for an 83 pontiac Parisienne in about 1987 or 88 definitely wouldn't mind owning a monte carlo of this generation mid 70s mid size from GM were really something special...and super popular for a lot of years after
This guy is a cross between Clint Eastwood and Lyle Waggoner. I miss my 1970 Monte Carlo. In 1996 I got an apartment and the landlord had his departed wife's '74 Monte in the garage. Pristine condition with only 34,000 miles on it. He wouldn't sell it to me. He died a year later and his family junked the Monte, his '71 Caddy and his '58 Caddy.
The junkyard will do what makes them the most money. If the car was pristine they would have sold it to someone else and not scrapped it. It would have been nicer if he sold it to you though.
I ordered a 74 Monte Carlo S with a 454 CI 4BBL and 4 Speed Turbo Hydramatic Trans with 273 Posi Trac Rear ratio and console shift,it was a Golden Brown Acrylic paint but no vinyl Landau on roof,it arrived in April 74 and I wish I could buy the identical one to it now.
I wish I still had my '75 Monte Carlo Landau. That one had bucket seats with A/C, power windows and power locks. Seems silly to tout such features today, but most 70's cars did not have these options.
Yeah, they don't make 'em like they used to! Imagine driving around in one of these when it was new, that would be totally boss! This generation of Monte Carlo looks classy, sporty and badass all at the same time.
Excellent restoration work on the film! My neighbor had a new '73 Monte Carlo - fully loaded, triple white, 454, swivel buckets and console. What a magnificent automobile. I drove it once and rode in it many times (I was too young for even a learner's permit then). The 454 still had decent power in '73. Thanks for the memories.
hi yes I owned a 1974 Monte Carlo with a 454 electric sun roof door locks windows etc air conditioning swivel bucket seats etc yes it came load with all the options it was a great car well goodnight :-)
@@theemulsionalchemist5688 hi the Emulsion Alchemist and thank you for you're reply and yes I did have lot of great memories with my Monte Carlo stuff like going out to dinner on Friday and Saturday night and going to a drive in movie's or out cruising or going out for drive yes I love to drive and i still do or I would go out to the drag strip to watch the drag racing and sometimes racing one of my other car's I had lot of fun with a lot of my car's well you have very good night and week and coming weekend the Emulsion Alchemist and thank again :-)
From ‘94 - ‘99, I had a triple black ‘74 Landau. 400/400, full gauge package with tach, ac, power windows, locks and sun roof, rally wheels and tilt. Best running car I ever had. Idiot for selling her.
6:40 "The Landau roof gives Monte Carlo the expensive unique look of a European luxury vehicle". What European luxury vehicle used that kind of roof???
Funny you say that. I'm watching the video and where he is point to is the upper part of the door panel and clearly there is NO map pocket there that i can see. It has to be there.
DALE EARHARDT SR. (MR. CHEVY AKA THE INTIMIDATOR) HE WAS THE REASON WHY I BOUGHT BACK IN 1999 THE BRAND NEW REDESIGN 2000 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO SUPER SPORT I WILL NEVER FORGET DRIVING BACK FROM BOB BAKER CHEVROLET IN SAN DIEGO TO FULLERTON CALIFORNIA I GOT 2 SPEEDING TICKETS
I used to work for chevy and when the really hot stuff hit the dealership the only mechanic who was allowed to do the delivery inspection was the shop foreman, every car had to be test driven 2 miles
These transfers are very well done. Which makes the contrast with the "Emulsion Alchemist" watermark in the bottom right corner all the more noticeable. Why is it so pixelated and blurry?
Funny how the landau top is sold as being European when the Europeans basically did no such thing unless he is implying it's supposed to make it look like the center roof comes off a la Porsche 914.
My '77 Green MC was a total looker-but the biggest pig on the road-bad gas mileage, poor steering, fishtail in rain & snow-no traction, valve tapping, went through 3-alternators--uggh

70-72 Monte is far more superior in looks & performance.
back then it was all about personality

I still have my '76 after almost 22 years. She's a little worse for wear, but I still love her.
take good care of her.
I had a '74 in high school back in the early 80s. Loved it!

Thanks for making this copy for us! The colors are bright and beautiful.
You are so welcome! Doing my best to restore these films before the fade away to nothing
My late grandparents had one new it was maroon color and had an 8-track stereo. I remember sitting in the back as a kid going out for dinner.
That was a good looking car and enjoyed driving the one I used.
Yes it was! they had style
I'd love to travel in time and visit a 74 dealership with 2022 money
I think I would go a little farther back. I will take that hemi Cuda for a daily driver, and the AC cobra for Sunday to drive to church.
Had 76 Landau, with every factory option
Sunroof , split seats,custom interior.
Black with white vinyl interior
i wonder how many survived
My first car ran like a champ for yrs
the 73-75 design was the sexiest

The '73 was the best of this body style. Why they had to get rid of that rear end is just sad. Awesome car from Delorean.
I miss my 77 Monte it had silver gray paint with the landau roof same color and had the swivel bucket seats red wine interior 350 4bbl
BEST CAR EVER!! 74 MC

I know the feeling
Love the 73-77 A bodies. I own a 73 Monte 454 w/swivel seats. Well the 454 has a blower on there now as the malaise 454 didn't have enough muscle.
I can remember finding cars with the swivel seats in the junk yards. they didn't last long before someone would swipe them
Nice 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the visit, glad you are enjoying
I’m sold! Take my money!!
The swivel seat Monte Carlo is the best generation.
you won't find any of those laying around anymore. cool option
My Daddy had a 74-75 Monte Carlo landau sweet personal luxury
nice, glad you enjoyed the film.
they always looked best with the double stacked square headlights.
The salesman resembles a cross between Clint Eastwood & Jack Lord.
😍!
6:40 "The Landau roof gives Monte Carlo the expensive unique look of a European luxury vehicle". What European luxury vehicle used that kind of roof???
I don't know. Vinal tops are an American thing. Great sales pitch
Off the top of by head, Ford Granada, Chrysler 180, BL Princess etc had vinyl roofs. I'm fairly sure they were just aping US designs.
and headliners that didn’t fall
yes, no glue to hold them in
My favorite is the '75 version.
Catalytic converter has joined the chat. 😡

the best Montecarlo to my liking, was the one from 1981
Dreamy
When will they be at the Dealers
Can't wait
I was ten and at that time I didn't know in the future i would drive gm
Beautiful elegant cars, can't believe Americans took suvs instead of these beauties.🙂
I had a 76 Monte, nice ride but gas mileage was really bad.
No recalls back then.
Same steering were use on our impala 77 .

Are you asking about the film or the water mark?
I prefer the 70-72 Monte Carlos.
My Dad like this car, but balked when he learned he had to pay $210.00 for an automatic transmission! He said it should be standard on a luxury car...
Wow a manual transmission was standard on this car??? 3 on the tree? or 4 speed on the floor?
Where can I order one of these?
Killer pork chops
1970's style
Great video. Is it known who the presenter is?
Not that I know of. if I can find out for sure who it is I will add it to the description
Not enough headroom so I went with Dodge Coronet ... Chrysler cars just had more headroom..

it's not the only reference like this. many times, in these films they call the designs and features European. good for a laugh

glad you are better
Stay strong don’t fall off the wagon homie
Government mandated COW CATCHER.
Those 74 bumpers ruined everything in my opinion. looks were less than secondary on the list of importance.
