      Right? As a programmer and CPU/assembly language optimization expert, just /facepalm and shaking my head.
      float for a timer? And one that the game checks for divisibility by 3 or something? n % 3 == 0 is vastly more efficient for integer than FP. (Well hopefully they just add something to calculate the next deadline so it's still just adding and comparing, not a modulo every frame.)
      What kind of language was this written in? Presumably not Javascript; JS numbers are double-precision floating point that can represent every integer up to 2^53
      vs. single-precision being able to represent every integer up to 2^24 (with larger numbers rounded to nearest multiple of 2, then multiple of 4, etc.)
      So 1 ulp (unit in the last place of the mantissa) becomes larger than 1 at that point, and is where adding 1 with round-to-nearest will stop changing the value.
      IDK where the 2^19 comes from; perhaps it adds something larger than 1 every frame, like maybe it counts in milliseconds and it adds 30 ms or whatever.
      Wikipedia's article on single-precision floating-point is very good.

      Decimals first off, and what practically is there to coding for a 100+ hour play session? Besides it being bad for your device's performance, basically nobody plays in a single session for that long. Allocating resources, and money, to fixing the float problem when it won't show up in normal play is the wrong move.

    • @Imaginary_One
      @Imaginary_One 3 місяці тому

      @@Harrs2 You wouldn’t have to allocate money and resources lol it’s just using an int instead of a float. And if it’s performance you care about, operations on integers are way faster than floating point values.

    • @LeMustache
      @LeMustache Місяць тому

      @@Imaginary_One1. They'd have to put resources into this now to fix it, that's what they meant.
      2. On modern x86 float operations are not slower than operations on integers. They're often faster because there are special versions of many instructions that let you perform operations on entire vectors and matrices at once. Floats being slow is a thing of the distant past on PCs.

    low% always makes the funniest discoveries. Love the twist they bring to speed running. I wonder if these games should consider using a cheat or smth to skip time (and add it retroactively to the final time) so that the runs can be submitted more realistically (472 hours is daunting and gates the run off from ppl, i think the 17hr rupee isnt so bad as you can realistically do it in weekend but how many people are willing to wait 3 weeks?)

      In context, the minimum grabs RTA run does not count grabs for any non-completion of a room. So if you have to grab in the start of a room, then die near the end of the room, as long as you dont 'save' the grab by room transitioning, it doesnt count. This ruleset comes from a similar challenge run that does have a leaderboard
      Edit: if you somehow room transition and mess up with a grab, rip run
