To 100% the game twice back-to-back seems so impossibly insane that I find I don't feel a sense of accomplishment anymore as I finish chapters after dying like 250 times. I can't even fathom how good Rick is at this game
Hey, Rick here. Big accomplishments like this really aren't worth as much as some people think. Sure we might get some attention and recognition for a short period of time, but that's it. There is a lot more to life than that, and nobody has the time for balancing all the intricacies of life and doing something that only one person can do. By learning to value your own achievements, you get the satisfaction of doing something all on your own, while also not risking your mental and physical health over it. I hope just finishing the game for what it is, for the mechanics it provides, and for the beautiful story it has, is enough for whoever watches this. You can do it. Take care. 💚
@@Rickfernello Thanks for the words of encouragement. After about a month of playing when I have free time I'm thru all the A&B sides and half-way thru Farewell. Celeste is a great game and the sense of accomplishment when you beat a hard level is satisfying even if I die 1000+ times. Celeste is the hardest game I think I've ever played (to get all the achievements) and while you may not have gotten tons of fame and notoriety from what you accomplished, I still believe it's one of the most incredible feats I've ever seen in gaming.
A cool video to highlight an amazing achievement! Although I don't think it's fair to compare speedrunning and deathless runs and call the latter "a far greater challenge" than the former (0:19). They're both very impressive and difficult disciplines to master, just in different ways.
Hi, thanks for making this video, it's really great to see Rick's accomplishment being celebrated, it truly is one of the most insane achievements this game has ever seen. That being said I do have some criticism that I think is important to mention: The beginning of the video where you compared Rick's run to speedruns had some points in there that I think are unhealthy. Calling Rick's run "a far greater challenge", or saying that "speed is only the first stage of mastery in a game" both feel like very misleading statements. They are different playstyles, completely incomparible to each other in terms of difficulty. Using speedruns which were played with the sole intention of going fast, risking death with difficult tricks to save fractions of a second, just as a way to build up to saying that a completely incomparible achievement is "a far greater challenge" felt pretty disingenuous. I'm sorry to be a little negative and I am not trying to take anything away from Rick's achievement or the rest of the video that is focused on Rick's journey. I just don't like the precedent that if a run is deathless it is better than a top level speedrun that has a few deaths in it, that is simply not true.
Hey Isaac! Thanks for the comment, your runs inspired me to make a video about Celeste, and I appreciate that. I'm sorry about diminishing you and other's speedruns, and I would quickly like to explain my thought process, bc I don't really think either is harder or a much greater challenge. When most people think about speedruns, they usually assume that it means "perfect" play or in this case, deathless. I wanted viewers unfamiliar with the game and the run to care about Rick's achievement early in the video without dismissing it as "isn't beating a game without dying pretty normal?" So I was trying to add to the dramatics a bit early on, even though it was, admittedly, a little disingenuous. Again, I'm sorry for the comparison there, and I'll definitely be more careful with stuff like that in the future. Thanks for the comment!
