Not so simple, you still need to be either over the age of 65 for pensioner visa or have citizenship, which can cost hundreds of thousands or take years or both.
I am on disability. How does that work?? Getting monthly amounts deposited directly onto a debit card. But, is it legal to live in Bali and collect U.S. disability??
WTF.... is wrong with this man? Calm, happy, caring, and able to share his thoughts freely without fear of being jailed, bullied, or ostracized. Give your head a shake, mate, grow up! ...lol........Grateful, finally selling my home and removing the toxic energy. Thank you for sharing, stay safe, much love
@Pam Spencer Pam....have been staying in Mazatlan, Sayulita, Bucerias, PV, even Venezuela over the last forty years. The changes I have seen are more gringos like me, ridiculous developments with outrageous pricing along with media highlighting drug cartels and travel advisories, some improvements in the standard of living. In my city in Canada, the changes I have seen. Ridiculous rise in my property taxes, home prices, water/ garbage bills etc. Homelessness is considered the worst in the Western world. Police in what seems to be killing it's citizen's for sport, because their feeling are hurt, governments imposing their singular agenda, punishing their own people for respecting our forefathers' efforts and sacrifices. Our educational system so dumbed down that we rank in the lower percentile of industrialized nations. A health care system that is again one of the most expensive and inefficient in the Western world. Mexico and Sweden demonstrated courage during the pandemic, and their leadership made the intelligent and caring decision. So Pam, I have never experienced what you have highlighted to the degree it would deter me. Other than drinking water, no biggie. Here is what I have experienced and encountered. The cartels and police corruption always have a twenty dollar bill at the ready. Always be aware and remove yourself the FEW times this happens. My city, police far more intrusive with law-abiding citizens. The weather just comes with the territory. My ability to see a doctor or dentist far easier access and WAY less expensive in South and Central America. I know the government of Mexico and understand corruption it is on a SMALL SCALE compared to the US/Canada, we just have lobbing groups. My country is everything politicized, and corruption cost it's citizens billions of dollars. So in the end, would I rather live in a country where it's citizens fight every day to better their lives, are kind, generally happy, and I am not reprimanded for saying Mr, Mrs and Ms? Would I continue to give my money to a government that squanders it like there is no tomorrow? I do respect your writing but simply disagree. The world is changing, and the good changes are not in the USA/Canada. Are you not glad you commented.....lol.... Pam more than 70% of the world's population is simply tired of the Western's worlds bulling agendas. Born, raised, and educated in the US/Canada. Cannot understand how we are spitting out degrees right, left and centre and yet our population is unconscious and dare I say uneducated. Do I feel better? Thanks for highlighting the real world Pam....stay safe and have a giggle-:)
That is what I spent living in Laos '$500.00" a month for three years 2019-2022, except my rent was $120.00 month for a very nice one-bedroom apartment 11km outside of Vientiane. I wish I could post photos of my apartment. I saved $1,150 a month from my SS. When I left Laos after three years to go to the Philippines, I had over $34,000 US saved from those three years.

When I add the numbers, his costs that are on the list come out to $705.10 a month, which is still ridiculously cheap. The bulk of his spending is on food (groceries + restaurants = $410). He's living quite well for such a small amount.
Took early Social Security at 62 and a half and never looked back! Just know the rules and abide by them. When you reach FRA (Full retirement age) the restrictions drop. I did a ton of research, listened to all of the doom and gloomers and did it. Can't wait for future phases of my life and am thrilled about living my life my way. Thank you for this video...I subscribed and can't wait to learn more!!
@@knowledgeberakah1728 No idea because I am not. I would research the heck out of it on youtube, do google searches and talk with the Social Security Administration. I have a feeling that disability comes out of the same thing so it would be one or the other, but not sure. Good luck!!
There are so many opportunities for a comfortable retirement once you leave the US. Low cost of living, excellent medical care for a reasonable cost and a relaxing lifestyle. My wife and I built a cottage-style house in Thailand for a fraction of the cost the same house in the US would be. $1,000 a month is about all we can spend for groceries, restaurants, utilities and diesel. Wonderful video. This fellow is the real deal.

@@Vera-dg3hf Hi Vera! It’s not a dream. Everything I’ve said, and everything on the video to which my comment was posted, is true. Most people just don’t do it for one reason or another. Some really good reasons and others not so good in my opinion only. But it’s not a dream. Look into it, do some research, respond here to me or the video creator if you have any questions.
Crazy how affordable it is once you get away from the tourist traps. I'd hate to share how much we are spending for our family of 5 for 7 days in Bali in June!
Well, he may be very smart and he may not be but we cannot really say for sure from the video. All we really know from the video - besides the fact that he cannot pronounce "miscellaneous" properly - is that he seems like a fairly nice guy who loves to travel and that he is pretty frugal. Well, actually maybe not so frugal because, even though his overall expenses are about the same as mine, he actually spends quite a bit more for food each month than I do here in Phuket, Thailand. Furthermore (and I hate to say this) he does not seem to know how to add, because the itemized expense list he showed adds up to a subtotal of $705 not $490. As for Bali, I have always loved it there myself but I do not like the fact that to retire there you are required to hire domestic help even if you do not need it. I like to do things myself and I do not want to be required to pay for services that I do not need. And of course, since I always need to live near the beach I could never find any place to rent that is even remotely as cheap as the place this guy is staying in.
Bobby is the epitome of down-to-earth cool! After living abroad for over 30 years, I've come across my fair share of expats with some wacky ideas about how to survive in foreign lands. They think it's all sunshine and rainbows, with roast chickens flying through the air and honey running through the streams! But Bobby? He's got his feet planted firmly on the ground, and his calm and confident demeanor is totally captivating. He's the real deal, and I can't get enough of his practical approach to life. 👍🏼😉
I worked with Bobby in Las Vegas and so glad to see him involved in the slow travel lifestyle Dan. Great video once again. Please pass along my well wishes to Bobby. Jay
Don't forget, it's not just visualizing, you want to experience the feelings associated with these visual manifestations. Both the emotional and the physical as though you were actually having the experience in the present moment. Then afterwards, demonstrating gratitude to the creator for the experience as though it has already manifested. Great video! I moved to Ecuador. But after watching this, I think I'm going to pack up and move to Bali.
So a video is changing your move how stupid can you be, let me say this, come to the Philippines rent a house for $100 dollars you get a beautiful young maid, you get all meals cooked, you get a message at will, get your feet washed, everywhere you go you have a pretty escort, do you believe this?????
All the senses. The sounds, smells, physically touching, seeing and oh course the tastes😊. Fake it till you make it, but Know it's coming into being. 😊
I have rewatched your playa del carmen apartment video of his apartment maybe a dozen times since posted primarily due to his positivity and the simplicity of that lifestyle. Great video.
Its nice to see that there are other places cheap to live. Im currently in a 2 bedroom place on an island in Philippines for about $45 a month close to beach , (5 minute walk, ) raising 3 pigs, 6 chickens, 6 ducks , 2 dogs , a rabbit, and a new baby kitten just orphaned that showed up in a wood pile out back in the forest. Its not a heavily touristed spot so its pretty quiet but the island does have a shopping mall, big market and nice yoga center high up over looking the sea. My girlfriend knows the locals so we got a really good deal. Hoping to lease for the next few years as I develop my online business.

You have to go in and out of the country every three months, the visa is hard in Indonesia. You need to be married there just to get a one year at a time visa.
The B211A is valid for 60 days but can be extended twice (each time for another 60 days). This means you could stay in Bali for up to 180 days (6 months). Please note: To extend, you'll need to attend an appointment at your closest immigration office for a photo and fingerprints.Jan 30, 2023 Moreover, I’ve never heard about renting for $600 for a YEAR! I’ve been several times in there and have a few friends living in there now. The rest of the video is a true. Bali is amazing!

You can live a great life away from the west if you are prepared to become a little "local" and integrate a little with local people. That does not mean you need to become fully local, give up your home country ways, or change your personal values. I live in NE Thailand in a rural village; we have fiber internet (very fast), online shopping where you can buy anything and it turns up in a couple of days (or 5-14 days if ordered from China), we are about an hour from the local airport and can fly to Bangkok and then on to wherever we want if we want a break. Weather is wonderful, local family are great. Internet is 640 baht a month, water 300 baht, electricity 1000 baht, no rent as we built our own place 15 years back. Life is good! Not sure I could keep travelling like Dan and his partner, but respect their choice and enjoy their videos.

I live in Cambodia and I spend $600/ month. I eat 25% of my meals at a western restaurant and cook at home for the rest. If I wanted to 50% of my meals at a western restaurant it would be $750/ month. That includes sending laundry out, cellphone, high speed internet and everything. Another great video! Couple of other items I am curious about are what is spent on health insurance and visas and what visa he has? I will be living in Bali 4-5 months year since I work in a business that is fun, I am still needed and can work remote quite a bit. Been a few times and love Bali. I was so happy to ss you do this video....Besides being relatively inexpensive, the sense of community is amazing. Great festival life and as I write this I am missing it so badly....Hope I see you all soon....Looks like July now....

But the quality of foods there is terrible, in the Philippines the food is bad I occasionally contract diarrhea because of bad or outdated food they sell you, nothing goes to waste the old food is mixed with the fresh food. The USA Is better even though its expensive you're comparing a 1st world country to a 3rd world country where power outages are very common.
probably not home, but kos-kosan, only small room and bathroom, $600 usd is like 9 million rupiah, even as local my rent little is higher, my rent for 2 bed 2 bathroom house is $3898 for a year, or 60 million rupiah.

Indonesia taxes worldwide income once you become a resident (stay more than 183 in Indonesia in a year). This means any income earned abroad becomes taxable in Indonesia. In the case of US citizens who may be retired and receiving SS (or dividends etc), the resultant tax in US can be zero or very minimal because of the way SS is taxed, standard deductions etc. Though US has a tax treaty with Indonesia, since taxes are not paid (or little is paid) in the US, it will end up with a high taxable income in Indonesia, if you are even a normal income earner in the US. Any thoughts on this aspect and how people manage the taxation in Indonesia being a foreign resident?
I suggest they talk to their accountant. There are more ways to skin a cat (tax man) in most countries that will surprise you. But I was told by a guy in a diner (Internet) that he was not taxed on his first 4 years of foreign-generated income. I listen to the internet and I do my own research on the internet, but I make decisions based upon my accountant's advice after hearing all of the conspiracy theories I read online. Thanks for raising the red flag so people know what questions to get answered. :-)
@@VagabondAwake Thanks Dan. I saw that part too earlier. From a website - "As an exception to this general rule, tax residents who meet specific skill requirements will be taxed in Indonesia only on their Indonesian-sourced income. These skill requirements include particular expertise in science, technology, and/or mathematics (which can be proven by having a certificate of expertise from a government-appointed institution, a certificate of education, and/or at least five years of work experience). This exception will only be available for the first four years after becoming a tax resident of Indonesia."
But in my research I found once that honeymoon is over, I couldn't find any exceptions :) But worth further research or discussion with accountants as you said - one area of exploration would be, once that 4 years is over, can you get out of Indonesia for a year or so, so you are no longer a resident and then go back in - do we get another fresh set of 4 years or it can be used only once in a lifetime. Also how do we prove that stem requirements etc..
I spent the last five months in SE Asia [currently in Singapore] and “YES” you can find accommodations that cheap. However, I’m telling you firsthand that most Westerners can’t live that way.
If you are from the West, you take your standard of living for granted until you visit the Philippines. They don’t have a good credit system. That means you will always need cash, the lines are long, and service is very slow. It’s an adjustment. Some people can and do adjust, but most will not.

You will have to come put your feet on the ground here and see what your cost of living estimate will be. All of us live different lives so what we would spend may have no relationship at all to what you will spend per month. Also, make sure you add anything you need in your estimate that is not specifically mentioned in our estimated expenses. And make sure to have significant emergency money set aside in case something happens. What a great interview. I had the miss conception that Bali had become to expensive. Will you be updating your Bali report to include the area he is in and how we as visitors to such a great country can build more bonds with the locals? I feel many times expats tend to be timid or reserved in forming local friendships and gravitate toward fellow expats.
First and foremost thanks for the awesome chat. Where you guys are looks amazing with culture, nature, the ocean, and peace. Love the calm satisfied attitude you guys shared. Now, I have a zillion questions because my mantra is to retire on a beach in Asia in the next 3-5 years. I don’t use Facebook, so is there another way to connect with you guys or others who actually live there and get some info on more particulars? Thanks in advance.
@blakenelson4045, There is no set cost of living for everyone. The fact that one person can live on a certain amount does not mean that another person can live on that amount. The only way to know what your expenses would be is to go there and pick where you are going to live, eat, drink, and entertain yourself and add it all up. You must do an exploratory visit with your feet on the ground before you will know your cost of living. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. Dan
Dan, will be very interested in your retirement visa costing, esp the annual fee, whether the my pension would be taxed, whether health insurance is compulsory (eg over 75), and whether domestic help is compulsory. Thanks!
A extra, what you are saying....., not only see your vision, much more feel it as its done. Or work with a inner screen. There are different forms. But feeling as its done is key.
Great interview. I would suggest to cut back a little on the editing: natural pauses during speech make it feel more relaxed and give the viewer time to process the information at a normal pace. If the interview is too long for a single video, then perhaps splitting it in two videos would be preferable to editing out every single silence and pause.

Something I noticed about Central and South America, no mass shooting by its citizens, interesting factoid......curious why this is......-:)

No doubt what Bobby lives on in a year
one of the smartest gentlemen that has passed through your channel so far, congratulations to all of you for staying in good physical condition!!🤝🤝🤝
Are you a subscriber of Vagabond awake?
Bobby is the epitome of down-to-earth cool! After living abroad for over 30 years, I've come across my fair share of expats with some wacky ideas about how to survive in foreign lands. They think it's all sunshine and rainbows, with roast chickens flying through the air and honey running through the streams! But Bobby? He's got his feet planted firmly on the ground, and his calm and confident demeanor is totally captivating. He's the real deal, and I can't get enough of his practical approach to life. 👍🏼😉
Thought it was supposed to be elephants, flying thru the air ? Maybe just in Thailand? 😁😎🥳

Also another aspect would be, is that 4 year stem exception applicable for retirees - since it appears to be unrelated to retirement..
THANK YOU
I spent the last five months in SE Asia [currently in Singapore] and “YES” you can find accommodations that cheap.
However, I’m telling you firsthand that most Westerners can’t live that way.
Not at first. But my monthly apartment rate is now only about 25% of what it was when I first moved out of the USA.
Why ?
If you are from the West, you take your standard of living for granted until you visit the Philippines. They don’t have a good credit system. That means you will always need cash, the lines are long, and service is very slow.
It’s an adjustment. Some people can and do adjust, but most will not.

Hey, Im strongly considering doing this. My GF of 2 years lives there. I would love to chat sometime if youd be open to that!
Great guest, great interview!
good one -if i had it to do all over again i'd go to bali first
Wonderful information and so perfect that Bali offers so much and seems like the best for retirees now like me, Thank you ☮
Great interview. Neville is Fantastic !!!🎉❤
I am a perpetual traveler with a 20 liter backpack and just sleep on beaches and under my military poncho shelter.
I get bored easily in one place and prefer not to stay in hotels, airbnb etc.
Is it possible to camp on beaches in Bali or set up a jungle hammock and travel Bali in this fashion???
Greetings from Bodrum, Turkey
I haven't tried.
This sounds like a cool way to live, what's your age?
Down to earth, honest and authentic. Appreciate it. Can you get Malaria in Bali? And what area / City etc. are you currently living? Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the best! 🙏🏻👍
The idea of a karma based culture is so attractive. Do the Balinese respect the earth/environment in a similar manner?
What a great interview. I had the miss conception that Bali had become to expensive.
Will you be updating your Bali report to include the area he is in and how we as visitors to such a great country can build more bonds with the locals?
I feel many times expats tend to be timid or reserved in forming local friendships and gravitate toward fellow expats.
It has in places from what I have heard. Apparently, there are masses of Russians buying into the place (and Thailand).
He is back ! I still remember on the first interview..you guys forget the add the visa expenses.
Looks like we did it again? I will do more on that ion another video. Thanks for noticing.
@@VagabondAwake also no phone bill ?
@@kleerogers 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Another great episode!!! Keep up the great content!!!
Great interview, thanks!
Wonderful interview!
That's amazing good for him and for you living this style of life enjoy my dream will happen in do time
Great man Robert Meade!
I liked him from Mexico... your first interview with him...
This is truly inspiring
Man you guys this is doable for me I'm 54 I now have a new goal to work for thank you very much I'm gonna sell everything and do this at 62
@blakenelson4045, There is no set cost of living for everyone. Dan
I like this! Now I want to come to Bali! Please let me know how to find a cheap decent small place there to live. Cheers!🍻🍻
Loved this video and was very inspired by the story. Would love to hear more
Can you please tell us what town or village this man lives in Bali? We would like to know the best place to live here. Great video, love it.
Was this location revealed??
He said at the beginning.
He lives in west of Bali near Singaraja area, thats what I Heard in the beginning of the video
The top link in the description is a web page. Look for this videoon that webpage. The link with his data is next to that video.
Thank you for the encouragement. I want to go to Bali. Going to start my plan to get there!
Dan, will be very interested in your retirement visa costing, esp the annual fee, whether the my pension would be taxed, whether health insurance is compulsory (eg over 75), and whether domestic help is compulsory. Thanks!
Thanks for te qquestions. Maybe I will interview a visa agent and ask her.
A extra, what you are saying....., not only see your vision, much more feel it as its done. Or work with a inner screen. There are different forms. But feeling as its done is key.
Two more years in Tampa. Ready for a trip to check out Indonesia AKA Bali. Hook me up with Bobby
Contact him at the link on the webpage given in the notes below this video.
Tampa is Bali to some of us...😎
Great interview. I would suggest to cut back a little on the editing: natural pauses during speech make it feel more relaxed and give the viewer time to process the information at a normal pace. If the interview is too long for a single video, then perhaps splitting it in two videos would be preferable to editing out every single silence and pause.
Ok thanks!
Another great interview Dan, wow what a great cost of living there
I'm Irish I have a varied set of skills I will find you and when I find you I will shake your hand this is how people in there 50s and so on should live
Related to Liam Neeson 😂👌
Is Bobby a permanent resident of Indonesia? Said another way: how does he stay there long term?
Retirement visa. More later.
Thank you. I’ve been researching the visa. 30 days on arrival and can be extended another 30 days. Does he do a visa run every 60 days?
Halfway through I already know this is the best video I've ever seen on moving to Asia and I've seen thousands.
Thank you! Maybe that is why it has so many views! :-)
Bali is more tolerant to foreigner than other part of indonesia
Going to Aisa this year. Taiwan, china, Thailand, Bali, Laos, Malaysia.
All I can say WOW!! Thought I was doing good at $500usd in a city In the Philippines I do not like!! Man what a beautiful place.Absolutely fabulous, Great place dude. I like Thailand one day for myself one day after my military( Navy/Army man) disability benefits finally come through. All, Be blessed, safe, healthy, happy, prosperous and great. Nuff Said!!
Where in the Philippines are you able to live for $500 USD/month?
Don’t forget in the $500 is not included healthcare phone and visa expenses.
@@kleerogers The commentor stating this is not the one who posted the video.
I live in a midsized city too in the Philippines for less than $500 a month, has an airport, SM and Ayala, good hospitals, I can save more living in a town but prefer the convenience of a city.
@@markledesma2396 @kleerogers states it is literally impossible, so I will assume he would call you a liar. lol. BTW, what province do you live in? I am planning to be in Eastern Samar by June.
Hey Bobby,.. I'm smiling now watching this video. Lovina isn't my favorite place to live, but where we met in Sanur is totally awesome.
This man is indeed a great JEDI.
I enjoy your videos but this one really resonated with me so very much and exactly what I needed to hear today... thank you!🙏
I lived in Bali in the early 80s. A close friend and workmate was murdered for dating a balineese princess. Do not mess with locals. It can and most likely will cost you your life.
He got warning? Name details he should have moved
Most of my life I lived in Germany… never got robed on the street. In Jakarta I was robed in my first week. In Vietnam two times. I think the guys on the motorbikes ( which we almost don‘t have in Germany ) take their chances in South East Asia.
I have never been to Jakarta.
Gee, what a deal🎉🎉🎉🎉
Eye opening....
I love this video. So much great information. Thank you to both for doing this !!!
Great video! I may actually consider Indnoesia. Are there any good sites or resources to start searching for apartments that are these prices before going to Indonesia?
Not that I know of. These are feet on the ground prices.
