4:00 When I was hanging out in Ubud in 1980/81 there were, wait for it, just 2 places to stay...two losmens...no resorts, no spas, no banks, no electricity, no high end restaurants...it was pretty nice.
The apartment is an incredibly beautiful place. You have a little piece of paradise that is so secluded and in the native style. Great for taking in the culture, and for relaxing and doing some meditation and yoga. You hit the jackpot! You guys are really living your best life!! me: just finished my processed TV dinner full of chemicals, looking out at the gloomy, wet winter weather here in the good ol' USA. ☹️ Although we have only had two shootings today for our small city which is an improvement. I can't wait to get out of this place.
Don't wait. I left the US 33 years ago. First in Guam & just had my 30-year anniversary in Japan. Life is so much better in Asia. If you approach life with a smile here, you'll be the most popular person on the street. Life is a new challenge, usually in a good way here. Just be ready for some culture shock & language challenges that will get to you at times but I don't have to worry about being shot or hearing all the negative hatred that Americans spew.
A perfect place to spend 3 to 6 months Geographically spectacular Best to cook for yourself I could easily split time between Vietnam, Thailand, the Phillipines and Bali and live extremely well on $1500 a month. International food can quickly raise your cost of living.

If one just watches those Nomad living type channels, Bali comes across as a mini California with expensive apartments, restaurants, gyms, etc. I saw a new hotel review/ tour of a Palm Beach style villa hotel that was beautiful but was $700 a night in Bali 😮 So once again thanks for showing us how slow travel works and with some effort we can travel or retire to these places on a low budget. 👍

At one time I worked in Jakarta, and I have visited Bali at least 5 times. This was over 25 years ago and as a relatively young dude I spent a lot of time at the two popular night clubs located on Kuda Beach. The most popular was Double Sixes which opened at 6.00 pm and closed at 6:00 am (hence the name) and I believe that this is the place were Mick Jager got married. I can't remember the name of the other club that was just next door, but it was a lot of fun as well. At the time the old Bali hands at the end of the bar kept telling me that Bali is ruined and that I should have been here 20 years ago. I wasn't quite sure what they were talking about because at the time I didn't think that Bali could ever have been much better, and if it was really better 20 years ago, then it must truly have been the promised land. Now that I am retired, (I think) and living in the USA, I would really like to revisit Bali and spend some serious time there. I hope that I will not take over the role of the old Bali hands and bore all the tourists by telling them that they should have been here 20 years ago. I have heard that the Russians have taken over Indonesia and really changed the vibe. I only got this from one person but they lived in the area off and on for 4 years. they moved back recently and it was supposed to be permanent but they only stayed two months. Can anyone provide more insight?
There are more Russians around the world right now than usual, everywhere. The smart ones have left Russia for the time being because they don't want to be sent to Ukraine to kill their brothers.

How can expats retire in Bali, i.e. retirement visa? Been there years ago and I think it was visa on entry for 30 days? Went to Ubud for a day, wish we would have stayed up there longer. So much nicer than by the beach resorts.
My experience exactly. Stayed in Nusa Dua and spent a grand total of 1 day in Ubud visiting the monkey forest. Having watched tons of UA-cam on Bali I wish I’d spent longer in Ubud. Oh well, one day maybe…
Just spent a week in Ubud, the pace is hectic around monkey forest but 5-10k out still very peaceful. In a $50 hotel in Candidasa atm, snorkeling and fishing this am. Off to Amed soon, the beachside resorts off the beaten track are well worth a visit and cheap too.😊
It always surprises me how in all this videos about retirees - abroad ect …very few people mentions about the costs of medicines , hospitals , doctors , ect …and what about the costs of say you fall from a bike and broke your leg ??? any idea of the costs of that ?? . Sorry, I have not been to the hospital in Bali. Plus, we do not have free healthcare in the USA. Outside the USA, things seem to be 60 to 80% off. But not free like Europe.
This is a great point. The medical provision in Indonesia is especially bad. For anything serious, medi-vac to Singapore is the usual option. Monthly Health insurance premiums will eat up a lot of the figure suggested I'm this Video

I never thought of Bali being one of my options. I find its form of Hinduism very interesting. Seems to be a mix with Buddhism and the indigenous religion. That 'Truth is one, paths are many' resonates with me. Also, the beauty of Bali and its location a little further away from mainland China. It's going on my exploratory list for sure now. Namesta

Great point. Never go to another country without checking their drug laws. Some countries still have the death penalty, which seems silly in this day and age. So take it seriously and do your research. :-)
A lot of my friends are young women and Bali is not the place with attractive men...its mostly for old men ;( so not for us !! ;) Now Ireland, or any Scandinavian country, are much better, with healthy, but especially smart, younger men ! YES ! But thanks for sharing !😊
Going for young men ! Scandinavian countries maybe but what about the weather? Stay there for a year and you will realize what it’s like. A lot of Europe is emptying bcoz of the weather. Good luck with the young men and not all are smart, remember this 😜

Have the Russians invaded Bali like they have done in Thailand? Thailand is so crowded with Russians, Chinese and Indian tourists that lots of other travel vloggers are miserable with all the crowds everywhere.
There are only 6 units there. So we made an exception this time. We are sharing that only with paid members this time so it is there when they want to go.
All good info. What about marijuana. I prefer to smoke versus drink. It’s still expensive here , but is it cheap there. Can you grow your own ?? I’m definitely ready to leave the states and looking. Thanks

Vaqar Hussain, My recommendation is that nobody move anywhere without buying a round trip ticket, putting their feet on the ground, surveying the lifestyle available at their cost of living and making up their own mind. That may sound like I am trying to avoid you being angry at me, but it is really what I believe every single person needs to do before they decide for themselves what to do with their lives. Some people will love it here. Some will hate it. That is my honest recommendation. The problem is that you probably can't afford to visit every country I love before you decide which ones to visit. For that I recommend watching my playlists by country and reading my reports by country to narrow the scope of your foreign research. UA-cam Playlist By Country: www.youtube.com/@VagabondAwake/playlists Location Reports by Country: vagabondbuddha.com/ Make sure to also watch this video that explains the two biggest risks of retiring overseas. vagabondbuddha.com/two-biggest-risks-of-retiring-early-overseas/ Sincerely, Dan
Not really. Things will escalate if the do more gradually. I don't think China will drop the bomb on Bali without warning. And low probability since Bali is not a military target.

That apartment is perfect
I have a $3700 per month pension so this sounds good to me.
With that amount of money per month, people say you can live like a king in Bali.
40 USD for a scooter...you cannot commute a lot the rent alone is usually higher...
Impatience is very expensive
How long can you live here as a US citizen? Do they do credit checks & based on income?????
You can stay a month and get a few one month extensions as a tourist, but to stay long term you will need another visa such as a retirement visa.
How is it with no fan and air conditioning in the apartment? And bugs?
Has fan. Slept like baby.
I was waiting for bug comment. I guess you have to live with the bugs.
Beautiful place up there, how long was your lease for and how did you get on with your visa or rather what sort of visa did you manage to get.
We rented for 1 month. Visa 1 month too.
Thanks for sharing. How to get retirement visa from Bali being non EU citizen
Contact visa agent for long stay options
@VagabondAwake thanks how much they charge ? Any recommendations please ?
good video. well done
What about air pollution? It seems very bad in most places in South Asia no? It is nice to retire cheap but if you get sick from the air….
Bali is a beautiful tropical island.
Ubud is in mountains.
There is a lot of air pollution in Bali: traffic, plastic burning everywhere and any time, and of course the rice paddys.
one day i'll retire to SE asia. maybe 10-15 more years of work and i can retire with passive income. as long as WW3 doesnt pop off or inflation kills us all. every extra $ i have goes into fidelity index funds.
Qiang still looking wonderful in this video.
She is a beautiful woman for sure.
Please try the Lotte Mart out regarding prices (beer also please)
NICE COUPLE!!would love to enjoy a weekend with you.. but im a stoner..... i like to smoke in the evening for my rest...ptds... and then in azia its everywhere dangerous ? i beter go to thailand now?
great content .thx👍👍
Great point. Never go to another country without checking their drug laws. Some countries still have the death penalty, which seems silly in this day and age. So take it seriously and do your research. :-)
How about the Nepal ..? Do you visit Nepal. If yes please make a video with best place to live.
I loved Nepal. When I go back, I will make a video. My first visit was before I had this channel.
Good luck with the young men and not all are smart, remember this 😜
You are welcome sunflower. Your comment grows our channel. :-) Dan
Have you seen our UA-cam playlist for each country? ua-cam.com/users/VagabondAwakeplaylists
Your shaming attempt is ignorant. Google Kuta cowboys.
@@TimJBenham I watched " Kuta cowboys" .Thanks 🌻
Good stuff.
Has the cost of living increased a lot in 2024 in Ubob, Bali?
We were last there in 2023.
Tks. much.
How are the insects/ mosquitoes there?
We had a lot in Jambarin, used a mosquito net at night. Ubud been better, got a few bites
Very few mosquitos where we lived in Bali.
It is generally relates to the two seasons. Wet season sees mosquitoes numbers jump along side, sadly, dengue
Have the Russians invaded Bali like they have done in Thailand?
Thailand is so crowded with Russians, Chinese and Indian tourists that lots of other travel vloggers are miserable with all the crowds everywhere.
Yes
Better than egocentric Americans for us locals
The smart Russians are all over the world now.
What about food allergies which a lot of people have
Local food is best, but I did find a couple of good Italian run Italian restaurants. Splurge 😂 Ciao & aloha
Very cool video, thank you! Nice apartment!!!
What happens when you get sick? Medical insurance applicable from home?
Not usually. Check with your carrier.
Dan I love this place. What about bugs and mosquitoes. Lastly can I have the information to this place
There are only 6 units there. So we made an exception this time. We are sharing that only with paid members this time so it is there when they want to go.
@@VagabondAwake Ok that’s fine 👍
@@VagabondAwake How do I pay
All good info. What about marijuana. I prefer to smoke versus drink. It’s still expensive here , but is it cheap there. Can you grow your own ?? I’m definitely ready to leave the states and looking. Thanks
You should do Thailand then. It is legal there.
@@VagabondAwake so not legal in Mexico , seriously. If not , that’s stupid , and probably promotes illegal activities and crime and violence. Not going to Thailand , place looks like a zoo from every video I’ve seen. I wanna chill and be quiet and enjoy life , peacefully.
I had written Bali off until now. Wow when you leave Bali please give me the information to your villa
I am trying to be a paying member. Great information. How do I sign up
I was planning to go to Bali it could help me a lot. Would you plz give info for living with 500 dollars any where you traveled in the world. Was this estimate for 2 persons or one?

@@VagabondAwake I agreed I will visit first then decide. Thanks for the tips.
Visa costs and health insurance, why are these not included?
Thank you. Do you have some more information about Malaria?
Check out the CDC webpage. :-)
@@VagabondAwake Link?
Indonesia is the Best Country , Modern and Rich with Oil and Gold. No more Malaria . I Love My Country. ❤️🇲🇨.
Can u do vid on Lombok ?
My only question is do you worry what will happen there if China decides to become more aggressive with their Asian country neighbors?
Not really. Things will escalate if the do more gradually. I don't think China will drop the bomb on Bali without warning. And low probability since Bali is not a military target.
@@VagabondAwake awesome! Thank you for the reply, and keep up the great work!
How do you get a long term visa? What is it called and for how long is it valid?
The agent in the notes below this video can give you the latest terms of the retiree visa: ua-cam.com/video/wloppncNezc/v-deo.html
@@VagabondAwake Thank you
That budget account for non married people?
What about health insurance
