Patek was the place to refurbish this watch
Amazing restoration 😮
The watch had a good restoration. It will give its owner many years more use.
That is one beautiful watch. Excellent job.
Beautiful and great restoration
What a beauty. Thank you
Fantastic work...
Came out great.
Mammamia.... that watch is such a damn beauty...
That's a beautiful piece.
Was
Only 8 known, it's going to P&P main factory directly.
Nice, bravo, well done.
Wow. I have one that looks almost identical!!!
Thats amazing! Are you looking to service your watch? Or perhaps you are interested in selling us your Patek Philippe ?
@@GrayAndSonsFLit's in excellent condition. Waiting for archives to be extracted. I'd be interested in selling it but most likely would put it in auction. Unless you have a buyer that was adamant about rare vintage prestine patek. Pretty sure the one I have is from the 30s or maybe late 20s. Won't know until I get the archives. I can send pics if you'd like.
Wow!!!! That is what you call a master watch maker. You can tell that they know how to handle vintage watches. Just amazing craftsmanship.
omg it was soooo ugly until you guys gave it's rebirth back to it. Go on guys rock that!!
I'm impressed! Before and after - what a big difference!
Great video. Very impressive. But please lower the back ground music. It’s distracting from the watchmaker explaining the process. Keep the music! Just lower the volume. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my heart!!!!
3:08 you see how his hands are clean but beaten. That shows how much craftsmanship and work he does with his hands on masterpieces.
The
Good job
What a beautiful watch! I’m sure their family will enjoy this repair for years to come.
I'm astonished how that watch was in México, when there are only 6 in the hole world!
That Patek watch seems like it has the least parts for a Patek
This is an excellent video and very informative!
One of the most valuable brands in the watches scene. A fanatic collector would be happy if he could call such a beautyful watch his own.
bravo
nice
Why not take it to Patek Philipe for restoration instead?
Cause screw you that’s why
@@NTRMAN-bh2bd regular? Or reversed thread?
Looks beautiful I personally would've requested the 4 o'clock position stick to be slightly shaved as not identical in weight and shape to the others but that's just being picky
I agree, it looked very different to the others. But in my opinion noone should have repaired this apart from the actual patek repair/restoration centre because ive seen a video on their repair process and although it may be expensive it completely restores the watch back to original condition even to the point of them having parts that they dont even manufacture anymore refabricated from scratch by hand. They probably wouldve remade all the rusted movement parts aswel.
The marker they replaced on the dial face looks really bad. The owner should have ponied up some cash and sent it back to the factory.
An hours flight to Geneva would have made all the difference, by having the service performed by Patek! Why would anyone consider having this type of work done by someone who does not have original factory parts, restoration skills and know-how? T
Yea I noticed that immediately and had to come see if anyone else thought so
Great Video. I have know Gray and Sons for over 20 years, Great people and superior quality.
😍😍😍
Patek Philippe is one of the best brands of all time. That watch was in bad shape and you guys did a great job of bringing it back to life. I'm sure that brought the value back up a lot.
Is it only me or somebody also noted in 1:01, the parts of dial for 4 o'clock is falling..!! do you miss it so you created a new one?
You should finish watching the video before you comment.
That's a valid point. I am sure they saw it but perhaps it wasn't reusable.
What are you talking about? They never referred to the dial piece being found loose in the watch.
And you can see it near 7 o'clock at 0:23. So yes they lost it and tell that it was't there even if its in the video :(
I spotted this also and went back and forth along the video , why would they make a new part when they could ensure authenticity using this broken part by perhaps repairing a broken lug. For me that makes my mind up , send a PP watch back to Switzerland which also helps with provenance
I have watched so many of your videos and enjoy them immensely.
I would most surely hate to see this repair bill. Heck I know how much it is to just a have a service dome to my Patek.
One thing I must say that surprised me was the handling of the movement with bare fingers? I thought that was an absolute no go?!
But like I said it surprised me a bit. I wouldn't want anyone who serviced my watches to do this.
Last thing, with this one being one of 6 I believe you said ? What would be the value? I know it is a family heirloom and all but rare watches can fetch some pretty crazy prices.
With my knowledge at auction I think it could get between 40K to 75K
Another great watch repaired and another great video to document it!
Vacheron constantin y patex Philippe the best watches the wold
They did a full adjustment job...that's going above and beyond.
That new hour indicator is very rough. I have doubts this was a true Patek refinish. I have a 1930’s Hamilton that keeps much better time. Good to know!
Nice work. The dial markings seemed to be not mirror polished though; was there a decision not to polish them and why?
Lowers the price of the watch, also the collectors prefers natural untouch watches
Ken morán yup.. i do agree with you.. but only if the dial was repainted or replaced.. normally restorations are for longevity of the watch... but in this case, the mexican family was restoring the watch to keep it in the family... so collectors would probably never get their hands on this watch as it'll stay in that family for many years to come...
I bought a Longines watch from eBay a couple of months ago for $54.29 at an Auction. It is a 1970s Olympian Automatic, Date Gents Watch that Longines was unable to fix. It is a very rare watch as it has a blue face, and they were unable to trace the origin. They couldn't find a serial number on it either, but they offered to pay me $630 for it, I refused it. I am waiting for them to ship it back and maybe get Nekkid Watch Maker or Red Dead Restoration from UA-cam to repair it for me. What do you guys think?
Is Gray and Sons a Patek Philippe authorized repair shop?
Very nice video! The difference between the before and after is night and day.
Great video
Gee, good job on that Patek. I was so worried you guys would refinish the dial. Looks like you guys did a super job of restoring and keeping the original finish. Like the way you kept it for a week getting the movement timed just right.
Wow what a piece of Art, and what Artist!
Atatürk ( the founder of modern Turkey) had given this watch brand as a gift for his important visitors.
how much did that cost to repair? ??
Amazing video. I will take my old watch for restoration at Grayandsons.
Wow what a revive!
Very very good, this is exactly what I would love to toil the days away doing.
Is Grey & Sons an Official Watch Repair Shop as part of the Patek Philippe Family of repair facilities ?
Amazing! How long did this repair take to complete?
Beautiful job, sure!!!
What a Beauty - Great work
I don't know if anybody noticed this but why isn't he wearing finger cots to prevent any oils from his skin getting on the movement? That's messed up for him not to do so especially on a very expensive watch such as the one he's working on, that's standard practice for any watch in general
This watch should have been sent to Patek Phillipe, to be serviced in Geneva. I would not trust anyone with such a rare piece. This is restoration has reduced the value significantly.
+AudioVideo Tastic
What makes you think Patek would use genuine parts and not just make new parts?
because if the new parts are made by Patek then it would be the Patek's genuine parts, i suppose..
+Fredy siregar
But the moment it gets parts it is not an original watch.
Patek in Geneve ask you a a kidney to repair it ....
bighand69 that’s exactly what they do, when a part is no longer available they make it. At the PP manufacturer, they have the capability to make parts hundreds of years old. And when made by Patek they are as original and as genuine as they can ever be.
By restoring using some non Patak Philippe parts will drastically affect its value.
It looks new, but I fear that has massively reduced the value! What they would not send a watch of this value to patek is very odd.
I love watches...i have a lot of them...but 60% dont work...but i dont know to repair...🤣🤣..i want to learn...im sure its very hard
My timex weekender needs a service .How much would PP charge me .
Great, but the scripting needs work etc.
How much did the restoration cost?
3.99$
@@reemissa3029 Oh my, even a jar de Grey Poupon is more dear!
Why did you touch the hour work with your bare hands ?
Hour work?
Surely it would be better to have a provenance trail for something so valuable i.e. keep it with Patek and therefore maintain the provenance. If anyone knows what difference it would make in terms of resale value please let me know. I guess this watchmaker would provide documentation so perhaps that would work if they are PP authorised.
Damn! I'll bet that repair was expensive.
ima thinking here, why do the wathc is expensive i have seen better movements,,, with less some zeros...on it
If you are looking for the missing stick, it's on your bench at 1.00 minutes.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: finger cots, for the love of God, finger cots!
Согласен часовой мастер, но ему бы ещё научиться за руками/ногтями ухаживать.
1:02 ,, you can see where the missing baton is ,, its on the cloth , its just fallen out of the watch.
You can also see it at 0:22 where it fell to the 7 position.
like 👍 👍
If only they put 1/10 of the effort of their repairs into their promo videos 😂
Це просто дивовижно.
Back alley chop shop. They took it the equivalent of a Mexican muffler shop.
18k white gold. wooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww^^
woow ???and jewller can make you a watch case of withite gold,, and cost only some 200 bucks...and at least you have the guarantee its real white gold, not white gold mixed with shit, like they do in pateta, patek
Look at how crappy that replaced hour marker looks, duude it was a mistake....
How much is it worth now
The client travelled all the way from Mexico to have the watch repaired...Have they never heard of Fed-Ex?. Great job on the watch though.
People don't trust their $40,000 heirloom in the hands of snot-nosed mail carriers.
Agree! I wouldn't risk a family heirloom even it was 40$ worth in cash. The real deal is heirloom part. And of course; there are only 6 of that model left in the world.
If the owner travelled all the way from Mexico to London, why not take an extra hours' flight to Geneva and have it done from the actual maker of the watch?
I think it is a ref 490 with a calibre 9-90 movement. Sotheby's sold one with a black dial in 1999 for $11,500. Beautiful watch, great restoration.
I guess it would be $2,000-3,000 for Gray's work versus $10,000-12,000 for Patek's
I doubt if Patek would have charged the client that much. The problem is that it has been my experience over decades when a person tries to save money to get something they really want or need, they usually come out second best.
I have some knowledge with Patek Service prices, I would guess it would probably be in the 3-4.5K range at patek
Sir I have a 1940's Buren it's Square 14-karat gold I believe raise glass almost in mint condition brass back like the faces brass with Roman numerals small second hand anyhow anyone anything would help
Top tip: play at x1.25 speed.
"Treasured family heirloom"? Did they dig the family member up to retrieve the watch?
That's dishonorably declasse' of you, you know better and work like that is hard to come by.
@@tomasinacovell4293 Well then maybe "Precious family heirloom" may be a bit kind fot the shape that watch is in. Looks like someone dug it up was my point.
@@DavidBrown-it9ig Well they did go through a lot and after they heard how much from PP they finally round a good place to take it.
What about the 6 number ??
stick? Isn't that called in index or something like that?
Baton .
"With genuine patek philippe parts wherever possible"....
LOL....that grade of rare watch...you would send it to patek philippe wouldnt you??? Any missing parts, they would remake and be genuine!
Should have left case and dial in original condition with patina.
Hell no then it would look ugly
👌👌👌
The watch lost a great amount of its value after beimg reastored
***** a vintage rare piece like that should have a lot of value. The condition hinted that it had not been serviced since being manufactured, which would potentially increase the value quite a lot.
***** when a rare watch is serviced it loses value, because buyers want a watch in original conditions
+no name This is bs. Watches are expected to have been serviced regularly, which may include restoration of parts. This is normal in a watch's lifecycle. Collectors will pay much less to buy in bad condition, because they will need to pay to have the watch restored anyway. A watch that doesn't work and is unsuitable for display holds little value, certainly much less than the same piece restored.
+Efstathios Zavvos The only thing in my opinion that would devalue the watch is probably the case polish.
+no name Non! That's impossible, the screw heads don't become torn without help from a slipshod servicing.
⏰👍
Awesome I like p.p .....@dubai
When you guys commented this watch lost value immeasurably and told the user it’s weight instead of the time
Very interesting this was not submitted to PP. Website link for their service costs... www.patek.com/en/retail-service/services/service-costs and safe to assume G&S charged a significant amount, it would seem cost would not be the primary concern. The backstory would be intriguing.
How much does a service like that cost? I've got a couple of old hand-wind Timexes I need restored. :) Thanks for the video.
I don't know a whole lot about watches, but I can't help but feel this watch lost some of its value by not having Patek Philippe handle this.
Who cares watch lovers don't plan on selling their watches in the first place. Plus the family probably couldn't afford a Patek restoration
@@GODOFLIQUOR I agree I’m a watch lover and I would never sell some of my pieces . Also patek restorations are extremely expensive.
I'm Watch. Mechanics man
What they didn't mention is that the repair cost them 57k.
Patek so rare, literally 1 of 6 pieces in the world, owner sends it in for servicing to a watchmaker other than Patek... 🤦♂️ you do not deserve this “family heirloom”.
A good repair. But Patek has most original dials and could have probably replaced. I personally believe the recent patina love is misplaced.
It's not misplaced when it's a family heirloom..... That's would be a ridiculous statement to make......
Your opinion. Which means nothing.
@@buddyrupp6235 oooooooohhhh!!!!! I get it!!!! So you're saying that your opinion is meaningless too?! That's awesome! Now we both have meaningless opinions!
@@buddyrupp6235 I never once gave my opinion on patina, so how the hell did I state an opinion...... Sorry but no, that's not a fucking opinion.... What I stated is a fact. How could it not be a fact? How could it be an opinion to say that "liking or disliking patina is not misplaced when it's a family heirloom, where things like patina, from where the family members before you carried whatever the object is, is very very important to to the family"..... Now the actual liking or disliking of patina is an opinion, but that's not what I said at all..... I said that it's not misplaced when there are other circumstances where the patina goes way way beyond "how someone thinks it looks versus completely restored"....
Also, you seem to not understand what a family heirloom is, but that's exactly what the guy in the video stated that this watch was.....
@@JasonP6339 there are better ways to honor parents than wearing fine jewelry looking like it came from a pawn shop. Now everyone wears old beat up crap because someone started this. I always took great pride in my work. Looking old and used is lazy and juvenile.
With only six of these rare Pateks left in the world, so sorry Gray & Sons but this watch should have gone back to the original producer who created it in 1947 Patek Philippe, Geneva Switzerland. Even though Gray & Sons performed a general cleaning and replacing parts missing, this Patek is in no way restored to it's factory mint condition, for it is lacking greatly. But as we all know you get what you pay for!
Music what ?
Patex Philippe the best watches the wold more better the Rolex
You mean cartel boss with his body guards...dude from Mexico with his kids 🤣🤣🤣yeah right
Are you mad that a Mexican has more money than you?
