Cool to work on a Patek Phillippe, this movement is simple, but working on finishing details is the best part !! Thanks again for sharing, it’s interesting to see and to listen history of this legendary watch !!
This is one of your very best videos. You have inspired me so much that I bought a Seiko Presage even though I have very little money as a Social Security pensioner. You once mentioned admiring Seiko, but I’m sure you were referring to the Grand Seiko and not the modest Presage, but I even so, I’m very proud of my mechanical watch. I loved your history of Patek Philipe!
Seikos are very well respected and amazing watches. That goes to all their Seiko brands. Sure, the Grand Seiko belong to their most exclusive watches but the Presage you should wear with pride. Many presages also seem to increase in value very fast. You made a good purchase! If i had a very limited budget and wanted to get a good watch, id get a presage too. I actually own 4 presages and I admire all of them very much.
Thanks so much, Diane, that's very nice to hear 😊 And yes, I like Seiko overall, even the Presage. Seiko prices have gone up a lot in recent years, but I still think they offer some of the greatest watches in terms of value 👍
I have 20 old watches in my collection mostly purchaed from junk shops or flea markets though prices have risen for these sources in the last few years. 5 of my watches are seikos and I think they are the most important watch brand so I think you chose well!
Seiko Presage is by no means a modest watch, but a gorgeous respected well-built watch from a respected manufacturer with more than a century of experience. I hope that wearing it will make you happy every single time
That is a beautiful watch. High on my wishlist😀 Good choice👍🏼
Another great video Theo. Glad to hear you are taking your health seriously. We are a similar age. I find your videos and dry sense of humour very entertaining and relaxing. Please keep on filming. All the best.
Nice work. You are brave to work on this piece of art. To your issue with weight and health, I too found my rotundity unacceptable when I visited my doctor and weighed in at 210 lbs. My doctor spoke about the wear this extra weight would put on my joints. I felt helpless to the tide of aging. Then, in September 2021, I started the Noom app. Walking a lot each day, drinking more water, and balancing the calorie density of the foods I ate shed 40 lbs in 6 months. All that is to say, losing weight and getting your body back into shape is totally possible. It is within your power to change your relationship with food. Looks like you figured that out without an app. Congratulations! And long life to you.
The combination of finishes in this watch is beautiful! Truly an art piece
Theo, I must say that I truly appreciate the quality of your photography. People have no clue how hard it is to get focus and lighting correct at such close quarters. That awesome photography really makes your videos so enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing your multiple talents!!! ⌚
Welcome back, Stian, and thanks for showing us yoyr mastery.
Thank you kindly!
Greetings! Amid the sea of watches with predominantly circular / round cases, it is always a welcome respite to see something as majestically elegant and pedigreed a timepiece as the Patek housed in a rectangular case. Incidentally, and admittedly, I am rather partial to rectangular watches. Also, I must make it a point to mention the dedication to your craft, and the quality of your superb workmanship with a touch of delicate humour. Thank you, for sharing your joy and passion with the rest of us.
As someone who just turned 56 and could be drawn as an ever increasing circle myself. I appreciate your pursuit for a healthier lifestyle and am now in the process of doing the same. It’s amazing what just a few diet/exercises can do to make you feel better. GL in your continued journey.
It is an incredible gift of education to me! A true master at his craft. Expertise and capability became rare these days (where a lot is remix, reuse, react!)
Freaking amazing to what rediculous detail Patek and the other holy two push the craftsmenship limits!
Lets act more!
Thank you Mister Vintage Watch Service guy aka The “O” … the future “I”
Wow, thank you, Jupp!
I commend you. Watching you work is secondary to listening to your calming voice. Please share more of your personal story. (You are a good man.)
Thank you so much, Tim! 😊
I love you. I only say that to remind you that we’re watching and learning, laughing and valuing your work!
😘 I love you too, Corky. Just don't tell your wife.
@@VintageWatchServices Ha ha ha! Well, nevertheless, observing your very logical approach with humor thrown in is very entertaining!
@@corkymiller 😁👍
Excellent work as usual, sir. I'm also glad to hear you will be taking better care of yourself. That's at least one of us. It would be nice to see you doing the same work into your 80's or 90's.
Right on! 💪
It’s amazing the detail they have, especially when you think most people will never see the undersides of parts let alone the inside of these watches. Also it looks like there are very few, if any, stamped parts where many watch makers clearly stamp parts. I also appreciate your history comments.
Another entertaining video Theo - and good for you on jumping back onto the stay fit and well path. Let us know your progress and successes....
Thank you! Will do! Stian 😉
Bravo on the lifestyle changes. Also the macro footage in your videos has improved so much too. Wow that ancre and its rubies, immaculate !
Thanks a lot, Cormac!
Beautiful work and great commentary as always😊 A joy to watch.
Enjoy watching you demonstrate your skill as well as your sense of humor. Good luck in your lifestyle change. You didn’t mention exercise as a necessary component but I expect it goes without saying.
Thank you so much, Robert! And yes, exercise is certainly part of it 💪
It cleaned up beautifully. Nice work as usual 😊
And yes, getting past 40, a proper well controlled diet and frequent consistent physical activity become absolute requirements for men. Fresh unprocessed food, preferably organic, is the best investment one can make. Junk food is cheap in the moment but it comes with very expensive ancillary bills, down the road.
Thanks! And spot on, Francois, eating proper food is a game changer.
what a joy it is to work on such magnificent movements. Thank you for sharing this!
Excellent videography, commentry, and closeup shots.
Very interesting video. Your voice and watch expertise are great. Not to mention your audio snippets peppered through the video!
I enjoy everything you post. It's great commentary, often hilarious, and his precision is undoubtable. Totally great.
Thanks a lot, Alexander :)
Excellent !! One of your best, and on a beautiful watch as well. Loved your narrative, as always! 👍
Thank you kindly!
Really great to see start to finish
Loved this one. One of your best yet. Loved the History lesson. Thanks!
Stian, your dad jokes are getting really good ! I look forward to them very much. I am 68 yrs old and have enough tools gathered to occupy myself with not running Seiko 5 movements.
As I play around with the movements I hear your narration until a screw fly's off to a different dimension then I crawl around on the floor with the magnet for my implanted
defibulator. LOL My accountant thinks I have a loose screw in the head! but she loves me!!
😂
Great watch, great video - welcome back Stian and thank you so much. The only bummer is that unlike in your 1961 Vacheron & Constantin ref 6456 Caliber K1001 service video, the spring barrel here is not decorated at all. Way to go Patek Philippe!
Loverly video Theo. I for one very much enjoy watching you wonderful videos. Looking forward to the next one.
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to record and edit this job.
Fantastic video and talk through. Love watching a craftsman at work.
thank you for the horological history....including queen victoria's patek phillippe watches....reached here from mark lovick's page....
Very cool to hear!
Fast becoming my favourite youtube channel. Funny, well photographed, entertaining and relaxing at the same time. Kudos and thank you very much!
Thanks a lot!
Thank you for sharing your new approach. It was a very human story.
Congrats on your life style change...obviously it's working. What a beautiful watch and restoration to that Patek. Simply elegant. Kudos to you and all you're doing..
Thanks a lot, Thomas, much appreciated :)
Congrats on the start of your journey. I hope its the start of a journey that it leads you to places that you've never dreamed possible.
Thank you so much!!
Congratulations on the lifestyle changes. Well worth doing!
Thanks for working on an old Patek, I have one from the 1940's from my father who wore it every day for decades. Same snap back (pre-dust resistant).
Oh my...a circle. That must have been an eye-opening experience. Congrats on the lifestyle change!! And I offer my heartfelt gratitude for sharing such a terrific video. And WHAT A WATCH!!!
Thanks a lot, Milan!
Amazing work ! Thank you for the great video .
I love the scratch clip. Replayed it three times it was so funny!
😂👍
Beautiful watch and another great video, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching, Ben!
The 18K gold really shines beautifully. Thanks for showing it off to us.
Congrats on your new lifestyle. You'll be ready for the next James Bond installment when they come to call!
Fingers crossed! 😂
Now that is an object of great beauty.
Drunk people, kids... and yoga pants!! Never a lie. Beautiful watch, great work.
😂
Congrats on the lifestyle change! Happy for you! Thanks again for another great video!
Thanks so much!!
Great video. Congrats on your new life path.
Brilliant video & an absolute pleasure to admire your skills.
All the luck in the world to you Theo with you life changes .
Take care & Stay safe sir
👍🇬🇧🍀
What a beautiful watch , despite the mystery detritus in the crown!! Another great job 👏🏻.. thanks for sharing 😎👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
As usual, fantastic commentary and beautifully filmed. Thank you.
Hi Tiaan, welcome back from your vacation. Good luck with your new lifestyle diet. Good to see you back. Lovely watch with great finishes, which we have come to expect from Patek. It is a pity though that they are so expensive especially here in South Africa. I look forward to your very good videos this next year. Best wishes Mark Maddison
Great video as always. Beautiful movement. With you on the lifestyle change. I've just retired and come to the exact same conclusions.
You can do it, Dave!
I am very proud of you for the start of your diet. We are getting older , better think in advance for our health . Beautiful watch.
Once again, I must compliment you on your fabulous watch cleaning machine. Love he history lesson on PP.
Thank you kindly!
What an absolute beauty Stian.
Hello, Lovely bit of history as well as a very interesting video. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Wonderful to see great quality video on such a movement Stian. I too am early 50s and really need to think about a change in lifestyle. Well done on your progress so far! Cheers, Howard
Great video, as always! Congratulations on your new lifestyle change! Best decision!
Beautiful watch! Great job!
Incredible filming of oiling the palletstones. The oiling itself is perfectly executed. You should go and teach watchmaking! Very well done!
I observe a keto/low carb/good fat diet now, since 2015. Lost 90#. Good luck in your journey!
You got that right about me and kids telling the truth! Fabulous Patek!
😂
Theo... well done to change your habits before something went wrong.... I was not so wise and had a heart attack at 59. I got through it and am just a few weeks short of 80 now and in good shape. Better to prevent these things and your change of diet etc. will do that. We want you around to fascinate us with your skills and knowledge far into the future.
Be well my friend...... Oh, and what a beautiful movement that is...the finishing is exquisite..... 🙂
Thanks a lot, Kathryn! A friend of mine had a heart attack at 36, and that changed his life completely. I started feeling like I was slowly killing myself, and wanted to do something about it. My daughter's circle drawings was the final straw :) Stian 😉
Wow such a beautiful movement, with all the finishing work and gorgeous bridge design is a real shame that it's hidden! I wish more watches had clear case backs so we could see the movements. 👍👍
Patek Philippes history department can research this watch and provide a certificate of authenticity to this day. Always a plus for the brand.
Yes, the owner has requested one 👍
@@VintageWatchServices cool beans. ^~^
What a beauty !
Thanks for history or Patek - Czapek brand.
Czapek still makes watches btw.
realy nice to se so beautyfull watch 👍 awesome done 👌
Wonderful timepiece
Excellent video, thanks once again. Very interesting to see the quality hidden in an otherwise simple looking watch.
Congratulations, Stian, on your weight loss and lifestyle change! That's great news!! I'm really happy for you and your family. Any particular reason you placed the centerwheel first followed by the third and fourth? Thanks for making and sharing another fantastic video!!!
Thanks, Woody! No real reason, just a bad habit 😂
What a joy it must have been to work on one of these. A vintage Tiffany & Co. pocket watch with a Patek movement that had the "wolf's teeth" wheels just sold on eBay. It was incredible!. It went for ~$1300.
Wow, that sounds like a steal 😳
@@VintageWatchServices Yes....I thought so. I am kicking myself for not taking a stab at bidding on it. It would have been pushing the envelope financially, but is was an incredible piece. There have been others. A Tiffany watch made in the 30s with an IWC movement sold as well. It, too, had the wolf teeth wheels. Stian, was their an advantage to those sharp "wolf's teeth" wheels?. They seem to be quite rare and only appear on the highest quality movements. Is there a reason for that?. I presume it is expensive to make?
@@wildernessofzinn17 There wasn't really much of an advantage, no, it was more a way of showcasing the skills of the manufacturer. Wolf teeth wheels are more difficult to make and they do slightly better as ratchets, but not enough to justify them for that reason alone.
Turning 50yo myself this year, health is now my major concern. Rest, good food, exercise, Healthcare, low stress are pivotal in my life.
Wish you Godspeed in your journey.
Sounds very good, Duncan 👍 Godspeed to you also!
Hermoso reloj y como siempre un excelente trabajo, me imagino tu cara cuando viste el dibujo de tu hija! Suele pasar ja. Saludos desde Argentina
Now that's CLASS 😃 good job😀
When I looked at the Vintage 1946 Bulova on my wrist, I truly felt akin to your work!
Very cool, Dan :)
what a beautifully finished movement, though you wouldn't expect any less for a patek, i think i'd be afraid to work on something like this tbh!
Me too! You might have seen I take extra care and worked a bit slower than normal :)
Beautiful watch. 👍😁
Awesome news on getting into shape remember it’s all about discipline that is the most important detail
Absolutely! It's all about resolve and discipline 👍
Nice job. Thank you. 🙏
I enjoy your history lessons 👍
Glad you like them!
diet coc is the best in summer ✌️happy you are back stian✌️
Good for you BTW. I lost 85 lbs 10 years ago at 53 and am darn glad I did now at 63 and retired. :)
The palette fork looks beautiful ! In contrast, the escape wheel looks as if it has come from a lesser watch... 😱
What a lovely watch. As I will not be able to afford something like that I want to thank you for showing us the views that only a fine watchmaker like yourself would see. PPs marketing slogan is a strong one. Napoleon BBQs also had a fine marketing slogan, "Buy your last BBQ first". From experience they are well made and a quality product.
Thanks also for sharing your lifestyle changes. I too am north of 50 and in need of a tune up like that. Perhaps you could share some of your tips for your change or books/websites that have helped.
Hello Clay, I've never heard of Napoleon BBQs, but that indeed sounds like a great slogan :) For the lifestyle change; I used to be in very good shape but never really bothered about eating healthy. When you're young and work out at least once per day you can get away with a lot, but not when you cross into half a century of age and sit still most of the day... For the eating and fasting topic I have been very motivated by Sten Ekberg: ua-cam.com/users/drekberg
Love the circle
It is very funny and cute :)
Congrats on taking charge of your health and yes, it actually is inspiring. I’m in the same boat and every nudge v pudge helps.
Another watch question: If a watch is adjusted to X positions plus temp, does servicing it knock those out of whack? And if not, why not?
Thanks Angelino! Servicing won't knock adjustments out of whack, no, but lack of servicing will :) If a watch hasn't been serviced for a really long time, it might develop wear that will permanently impact the adjustments and then it will have to be re-adjusted.
Worship, my heart ended in my throat when you did that scratch sound.
😂👍
Good for you. 👍🏼
Gorgeous Stian! Lovey job! So glad about your lifestyle change. I’m 53 and I need you around for my entertainment and learnings, watchmaking, philosophy, Nordic humour etc? So many questions again, what fluids for lightly polishing the gold and the dial did you use? Which curved brass tweezers do you use? Is the dial gold, is that why it’s so thin?
Thanks, Boyd! I use Silvo for polishing the gold, the tweezers are 7A-BRA from Regine Horology and you can contact them directly at info@regine.ch. And yes, I think the dial is solid gold.
Thanks Stian!
Really enjoyed this video. Beautiful watch and wonderful commentary. I apoligize, I had to laugh when you said your daughter drawn you as a circle. So true about getting older. I need to eat healthier as well. Bless you on your healthy journey. I'm a new subscriber.
My cousin's mom is 92. She is quite round as she likes to eat :) She is clear-headed and witty, thanking her good health to a fact she didn't drink water without alchoholic disinfectant in the form of wine since 1943. She also prefers her brandy clear instead of girly drinks like Jeger ;)
😂💪
Congratulations on the decision to get healthier. Much like anything worth doing, all it takes is consistency until it becomes a habit. Being around as long as possible is as good a reason as any to want to get in shape. Well done on the lifestyle change and the weight loss!
Stian, I came to the same conclusion, and have so far lost 42 kg. Good luck in your quest. That picture is of me 20 years ago!! Great watch repair work as usual. Stick to 2000 kcals a day and you'll be in good shape if you eat proper food.
Wow, that is very impressive, Luke 💪
@@VintageWatchServices just try not to rush it. Took me 18 months.
Went from 136.5 to 94.5
Something hilarious and deliciously ironic happened just now while watching this video. At 19:45, there was an ad break for nothing other than Loctite instant grab construction adhesive.
That pallet fork bridge alone is a small little masterpiece. Also the gold also came up really nice with a mild polish; the soleil finish on the dial survived as well. The owner should get another 60-70 years out of it ;)
Yes, it's a wonderfully made movement :)
Nice relaxing to watch you work and listen to your calm explanations. Good luck with the 'Kovid Kilos' I have the same problem. 😉
Oh, these kilos predate covid by a few years 😂
That’s such a beautiful 😍 watch. Just by the name, it probably was built in the Philippines 🇵🇭. And it’s one ☝️ amongst the champagne 🍾 dial collection. No day/date feature, but it probably actually looks better without one ☝️. One ☝️ thing that makes this watch look 👀 even better, is that it is spring wound. Just be careful not to get any spring wound watches by a magnet 🧲. Your friend, Jeff.
I congratulate you on your weight loss. I am prone to it also, and it bugs me...but anyway. I suspect the dial was re-finished at some point as "swiss made" is missing from the dial at 6 o'clock. The burst pattern style also seems incongruous to a Patek. A lovely, classic traditional gents' watch!
It might indeed be re-finished, but the lack of Swiss or Swiss made isn't necessarily significant. I've seen PP dials without it. And just from a logical standpoint, if someone had their PP dial refinished, I'm sure they would have had it refinished really well. So I'm really not sure about this one. It immediately struck me as off first time I saw it, but it might actually be original. I hope the extract request will shed some light on it.
Good health and long life to you!
Thanks! 😊
Fabulous watch 👍
