I have an A7IV and i am struggling because i want a second body, main for photos. I already have a body main for videos (fx3). But now i want that second body for photos. Would you recommend the Riii instead of the higher R series?
If a photographer cannot capture amazing photos with the a7RIII, it's the photographer's problems. It is not bad for videos. More than enough for casual videos for most users.
Amazing photos are about the subject not the camera. Most photographers don't (or rarely) take amazing photos, they mostly take mediocre photos and for that purpose camera matters.
@@drpolishmatt couple of things. The size of the files, I’m a professional and a lot of the work I do requires a quick turn around, often the same day. I always found I had to up the shutter speed to get sharp images with the A7Riv compared to my other Sony bodies. So in low light I may need to be at iso 3200 when I’m at 1600 on other bodies. I found the RIII to be better in low light than the RIV and having to up the iso made things worse. In the right situation the Riv is amazing but not for the kind of work I do
I'm always a few generations behind lol. I used a Canon 5dii and 5diii up until 3 years ago. Switched to a7rii and shortly after Riii. Got a good deal on an Riv but ended up selling it and just keeping the Riii. No reason to upgrade for my needs. Anyone saying the AF sucks isn't a real person lol. I shoot birds in my spare time with it and it works fantastic. Im old though and used to shoot sports with a manual film camera so i went through that learning curve 30 years ago
I still recommend the Riii to my friends that strictly do photography that have ancient cameras. I've had a ton of thanks from people leaping to the Riii just from my recommendation

@@DavidTwomey3 like I said I returned the Riv. Riii has way better noise control and the AF is pretty much the same. The 200-600 on the Riii is actually more reliable than on the Riv somehow and I'm not the only one to notice it. Something about the Riii sensor is magical. I will use it until it's dead. I have the Rv as well but my Riii is the camera that is always with me. The Riv has more AF coverage on the edge of the sensor but that really doesn't concern me at all. I really disliked it because it was so noisy. 1600 iso side by side is a pretty dramatic difference.

I was an early adoptier of the RIII and I still love it. I havez been looking the 7IV or the RV, but they never fully convinced me to buy one of them. (Price VS what I really gain) I have instead went a totally a different route and I got a Sony RX100 VII for sport photography (trail running and road cycling). It is light, powerfull and transportable and complement perfectly the big R3
great review. I picked up an a7Riii just over a week ago as a back up body to my a7iii. Im thrilled with the extra megapixels. At some point Im sure I'll upgrade both bodies as and when my needs change but for now it serves them perfectly. For pure a photography camera (and decent enough video-even though better options exists in that area) you cannot go wrong with the A7Riii, especially if you're coming from one of the earlier models like an A7,A7R or Rii
With the way technology moves it is definitely considered an older camera. They are already have 2 models after this. That doesn’t not take away from it still being an amazing photography camera.
Damn my RIII is old now. Great video. All points are solid. I have been using my A7SIII for almost all of my photography projects and gigs. It’s definitely such a better photography experience over my RIII and nobody has once said anything about the 12mp being a problem. I also think most people dont care and don’t even know anything about the MP anyways.
I also use the Siii for photography, I bought it for some video projects and I found that it takes very good photos, I even use it now with a Godox V1 flash and the quality is amazing, I rarely reframe in post so I have never had no problem for the 12 mp.
I don't chase every new model like many do. I care about the overall result and find it amusing when an older model that was labelled as a professional camera three years ago is now labelled as semi-pro or amateur (something just doesn't add up here 🙂 ). So don't be swayed by such talk. Better pay more for a better lens and get a lower version of the camera. The chip has been almost the same for several generations. A7riii is a beast and with my blackmagic camera are perfect couple. Only if I shoot sport, birds, then I would buy A9
It's worth mentioning that this camera has ISO-Invariance, so when it's bright you set ISO 100, and when it's darker 640 - other ISO settings are irrelevant.

Therefore, I recommend using ISO 100 in bright conditions and 640 in darker ones to avoid loss of detail. In this camera, using a higher ISO only brightens the image, just as it does in post.

Still a good camera in 2024. I have one and it does everything I ned it to do. I don't need a higher burst rate. Don't do sports and my kids are grown and gone and my old dog only moves so fast. Don't need better focus tracking for the same reasons and my photography is landscape, macro and travel. So I don't need an R5 or anything else that comes down the road. Love this camera.
Agreed! Sensor is fantastic. If I was doing a ton of stills work (I do mostly video), I think the low res viewfinder would bother me but it’s still a beast.

Appreciate it! For Photo only, I’d go with the a7r iii. If you want something hybrid with better video then I would probably get an a7iii. Also consider the higher resolution files with the a7r iii will be larger. Whichever camera you will go with will be great since you’re entering the full frame world.

I hear that all the time that Sony cameras get dust on their sensors. Don't know about the newer cameras. But its weird because Sony makes almost all the sensors for all the other brans also. I never get dust on my Olympus or Panasonic or my Fuji camera. I only once got dust on my Panasonic Lumix GH4 and used a blower to get some dust out. Maybe there is dust on my sensors but I would have to take photos at f22 to even see it.

There is a downside of this camera and all Sony sensors. There is a striping problem. If you Google Sony A7iii striping issue or problem you will see some info. DPreview on the forums the title says Sony A7ii but the writer meant A7iii. The stripping issue is also with the Sony A7Riii. Some people may never see the striping issue but the stripping issue was also found on the newest Sony A7RV. Only cameras that I know off that don't have this issue are contrast detect auto focus cameras and Canon cameras. Canon uses dual auto focus. I think its phase detection on a split pixel that avoids the problem Sony has. There are some work arounds for photo for the striping issue but I don't believe there is for video.
I almost never have dust on my Sony cameras‘ sensors. Maybe it‘s because I only shoot with manual focus lenses, which don’t produce dust by moving autofocus parts.
i can do all the photography staff with a Canon 5D Mark II, a Canon 6D and a Sony A7Rii. Why should we asking our selves if a camera which is only couple of years old can do the job?

I swapped out a Z6ii for one of these and so far I’m enjoying it. It’s pretty close in file quality to my workhorse D850’s. I’m finding some of the button placements a little awkward but that’s about all.
I can't think of a better photography camera than the A7R3. It has done me well, capturing images of humming birds flying to macro photography looking to the flowers of life. Even bugs looks very good, I mean, excellent. My praying mantis buddies love to pose.
The 'drive mode' on my A7riii is stuck in the '10 second timer mode'. It won't change back to either burst mode or single shot mode. Every shot I take, requires I deal with the 10 second time. Do you know if there is a software upgrade, or a reflash I can do? Just curious.

I have three presets-action, portrait and landscape. If I turn it to those memorized settings, then the camera let's me adjust the drive mode. But if I'm just trying to shoot aperture or shutter priority, the 10 second timer kicks in.

If you're looking for hybrid camera and it has to be Sony fullframe range, then a7III would be a better choice. Or, if you consider portability and are generally fine with APS-C sensor, then the Sony A6400 could be your choice.

I use the a7riii at work and honestly am not a big fan. I find the sensor is just too noisy . Unless I'm in bright daylight I see way more noise then I like. The video on it is so bad 😂

The new denoise in Lightroom is ridiculously good. I can now shoot 6400 iso with no problem on the R. I love shooting hummingbirds in my free time and have to shoot 1/3200 or faster. Before this ai noise reduction it was hard controlling noise. Not anymore
Why? They don't change their mount every 5 minutes so the lens selection is huge. And feature wise, you get much more for your money than other brands. There is a reason Sony is so popular.

I thought absolutely the same. This sensor is and was the sweetspot between noise and resolution.
I'm so impressed with Sony A7R III got it used but man the images I got so far are just so crisp in detail.

That would work. I would not recommend a fish eye but if you’re on a budget, check out the Rokinon 14mm. Or a used 16-35 f4 Sony Zeiss.

Listed my Nikon z5 and Z6 for sale so I can get this camera

The A7iii is the best Sony camera that I have owned for low light. It was better than my A9 which has the same MP
@@nickwilliams7867 A7iii in testing is still considered the best sensor Sony has ever made for this reason. Its really low noise.
