Korn is probably one of the best bands you will ever hear in the nu-metal style. They have deep lyrics and a absolute insane sound. They gave so many kids in the late 90's early 2000's a place we called home and a voice we didn't have. Jon Davis is a lyrical mad man who just absolutely spoke for a generation of broken people who were afraid to speak about abuse they suffered and how much they had to hold in to be accepted by the "normal" people. This band for a lot of people is their therapy.
You should also listen to Y’all Want A Single. They wrote it because the music executives wanted a single on the new album. It’s a diss towards the music industry.
I grew up with Jonathan Davis. Saw Korn live multiple times. His lyrics and subjects for his lyrics are dark but I can say his music saved my ass a few times while growing up. He used to work in a mortuarium :)
If u watch the music video for KoRn's 'Twisted transistor'... it's a funny clip from 2005. The band opted to replace the 4 band members (at the time) in the video w/ major rappers of the day - Snoop Dogg played Munky (guitar), Lil' Jon played Jonathan Davis (vocals), David Banner as David Silveria (drums) and Xzibit as Fieldy (bass) 🤣 'Coming undone' by KoRn was another great single from this 2005 album 'See you on the other side' 🤘🔥 Another one I recommend is - "Y'all want a single" by KoRn.
While spoiler warning needed, and daddy being top of the list for reactors discovering korn yall want a single is a great off the worn out path song... and korn has an amazing amount of those
Brother, I just got to the point where you talked about waiting to watch Daddy. That’s a good call. Jonathan Davis had a terrifying childhood. He was s&xtually abused by a trusted male in the household and his mother didn’t do anything. The song is absolutely gutting in how raw the pain is. He sings from the perspective of that male as well as from the perspective of himself as a young child. I hope it was cathartic for Jonathan, and I hope it reached other people who were victims of SA and maybe helped them feel not alone. I enjoy your reactions my guy. Thanks for keeping it up
@@zackkullis5555 not wrong. Jonathan has talked about this quite a few times. Neither of his parents were involved with the abuse, they just didn't believe him about it. It was his babysitter/family friend. The male or female question was at one point answered as female, though I don't remember where, only that it was an interview with Jonathan and his dad. Now it's just stated as a family friend everywhere you look. Their identity has never fully been revealed and they have since died. People keep taking this whole twisted take and running with it instead of listening to Jonathan's own words. smh His parents both regret not believing him, but Jonathan hates that his dad gets this blame when he never touched him this way. Regardless, they have a much better relationship, now.
The video for Freak on a Leash goes into the video for Falling Away From Me ... Freak on a Leash was the introduction to KoЯn for a LOT of people Anesthetize - When they put you to sleep, usually for surgery.
Been listening to Korn for ~24yrs, this song is still at the top for me from their discography. Saw them live at Rocklahoma & it was an experience I will never forget. Music is life! Many many metal groups are exceptionally talented lyricists & some are dabbling into rap/hip-hop/EDM/all the above. I appreciate all music as a musician, but will forever be a metal head. Spotify even told me so. 🤣
I feel like this song is a love letter to music - even though you go through hardships in life and sometimes feel like shit, music is always there to help you feel better and to help you cope through life 😊
Yeah, Daddy is a lot. It's not for the faint of heart, it's triggering (not the current definition, like actual panic inducing) and while it does give a lot of context to Jon Davis' life and music, for me, as a parent, its .. i equate it to eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. There's no going back.
Daddy isn't your typical song. It's an experience. One where you are being allowed to feel someone expose their most vulnerable and pained experience themselves. Listening to it is like a lifetime friend trusting you with their pain. It's written around true events, and its impossible not to hurt when you here it. I always recommend that you don't listen to it alone the first time so that you have emotional support.
Twisted Transister is certainly one of their more straightforward tracks, it's easier to catch the groove for sure. But melodically it's a bit static. There's not a lot of movement. Would deffo suggest checking out Korn's track "Got the Life" for a fun track with a good groove, and a bit more of movement in the melody. It's good fun :).
Daddy is a hard one to get through. I cried the first time I heard it. You would probably like their unplugged stuff. It's amazing. The Cure plays on it and so does Amy Lee . I really love this band . He does a live cover of One by Metallica. He does a cover of Would be Alice in Chains. Jonathan Davis also has his own side project. What it is , is one of my favorite songs on his solo stuff. Jonathan writes music for other bands as well. He has done movie soundtracks . He is so talented.
Oh if you want lyrics you need a dictionary, thesaurus and possibly even an encyclopedia for check out Cradle of Filth. Extreme Black Metal from the UK. Maybe start with the song "From the Cradle to Enslave" go with a lyric video because the official is sexually explicit, or "Cruelty Brought the Orchids"? or maybe some "Bathory in Aria"? Dani Filth (vocalist) is a Nietzsche and Lord Byron (18th century poet) scholar, with a penchant for sexual innuendo, double meaning, and wordplay. Single lines of his lyrics have been called literary masterpieces. All about dark, gothic (Goth as in the germanic people of ancient rome) romance and eternal suffering. Plus his high pitch screams will blow your mind.
I think you like this better bc this is a bit later in KoRns career when they were leaning more heavily on poppy beats (I.e. the sell out period; BUT I LOVE THEM) They did a song Coming Undone that’s good too (off this same album) and then they remixed it with Dem Franchize BoyZ Lean wit it. It’s frickin fiiiiiiire
So many prefer freak on a leash and it was never something I liked much. This album is what sold me honestly. This song specifically is what captured me.
They have a REMIX version of this song also. I like it better than the original. But, I recommend checking out them live, maybe something from Woodstock ‘99, BLIND is good.
Love seeing you enjoy this journey into the rock and metal worlds BP! Would love to see you react to a band called Sleep Token and their song Take me Back to Eden. Amazing vocals, incredible instrumentals, and very deep lyrical concepts in the lyrics.
So I agree that some of their stuff borders on maybe too dark subject matter and they can be rather weird sometimes. However, I do recommend going down the rabbit hole! They have a unique and very interesting artistry to they’re songs and performances. You kinda have to listen and watch several songs before they hook you. But they are a very good band and I really like them!
I wished you reacted this along with the video especially the long version. But, anyway, hope you'll try it. I find it funny/quirky with a bit of sarcasm.😅😅✌️
They released two new albums since 2019 I think The nothing, which is the lead singers darkest music after the loss of his wife & mother Their fan base. Their latest is also pretty good. “COLD” is my favorite there are a lot of other bangers this album I think was there re-insurgence of their popularity.
You should do Korn's cover of Cameo's "Word Up" and check out the KornDogs. If you liked this song then you should really like their song "Start the Healing" too. It's one of their more radio friendly songs.
When this CD dropped they also dropped a 3 disc companion set called 'Chopped, Screwed, Live and Unglued' . The first disc was chopped and screwed by Michael 5000 Watts and had a collaboration with Dem Franchise Boys that mixed Coming Undone with Lean With It. The second disc had a lot of unplugged stuff and the 3rd was music videos. Also you gotta at least watch the music video to this track and give your opinion on it on another Korn track even if it does not get it's own review. You should check out the mix with Dem Franchise Boys.
Also, the timing of this release was right after Brian "Head" Welch left the band because he found Christianity and got clean, he has since returned to the band.
You’re right, you probably aren’t ready for Daddy. It’s an extremely difficult listen, but a very important piece of art. Don’t listen alone. Make sure you have Don or Joee with you. That said, Jon Davis is a fantastic vocalist with a very distinct voice and unique skill set in the sphere. Please keep doing Korn.
You're pretty spot on it's about the intimate relationship between the artist and their audience carried through the music. For a lot of music especially metal the artist is expressing their own darker more destructive emotions as a way to exorcise their daemons often giving their fans the comfort and freedom to safely confront their own struggles in a constructive private way.
If you enjoyed this song you need to check out Korn Freak on a Leash and A.D.I.D.A.S. both are classic korn. Freak on a leash will even have a surprise for you that you will not expect.
More Korn or Slipknot is always appriciated brother. I would suggest dead memories from slipknot and rotting in vain by Kron besides daddy. I do have to warn you daddy is a really heavy song to listen to as you correctly guessed. Proceed at your own pace but thinking of really beautoful art thats hard to listen to in the hipphopp world i suggest you react to immortal technique : dancing with the devil. It is one of the best storytelling in hipphopp i have seen but its a gut wrenching song aswell. Looking forward to your new reactions❤
This is my favorite Korn song! I like it better than Freak on a Leash too. This was the first cd of theirs that I bought even though I was very familiar with their music. Freak on a Leash was one of the first songs that my autistic son was able to listen to. Before that song, he didn't like music at all. I'm not sure what it was about that song that unlocked music for my son. He is a huge music fan now. ❤️ Korn has a lot of songs about mental health. You should dive in. 😁
haven't heard korn in so long. brought back memories. if you like this kind of music you should check out CKY escape from hellview or 96 quiet bitter beings
I graduated high school in 94 ive been a huge fan of korn since the beginning and I totally agree freak on a leash is not their best i prefer here to stay coming undone shoots and ladders and I also agree you have to be ready for daddy
I appreciate your honesty, and your quest. I would recommend the MTV Unplugged version of Freak on a Leash by Korn & Amy Lee (from Evanescence). It's a nicer recording than the music video, and composed a bit better (although the style is a little off-brand). KoRn got me through some angsty times. Their style is a bit all over the place, anywhere from cool to downright creepy, but I hope you can find something in their catalogue you resonate with.
It's about a girl, who isn't perfect, definitely not a saint, that realises the world ain't fair and no one understands and she is lonely and depressed. She basically is a representation of people suffering from loneliness and depression and no one understands besides the music.
Modern day Korn is banging! People lost interest in Korn in the mid 2000's because they experimented too much with sounds, starting with this album. But 2016 and beyond they came back with a vengeance!
Korn is one of my favorite bands so I would love to see you react to more! I recommend the song Blind next or maybe Got the Life. And stay away from Daddy for now lol. People like to recommend it to reactors because its shocking or whatever but you should get into Korn more before you listen to it its really heavy.
Ayeeeee Korn!! 🖤 Nearly everyone I know still blasts this track lol 🤟 also.. BP don't sleep on linkin park. I bet there's some dope ones u ain't heard.. Mike shinoda got barz too.. There is so much dope Korn to discover! If you are familiar with Limp Bizkit, then I would say check out Say What. Also their cover of Word Up is sick! Correction:Name of the song is All in the Family, not Say What. My bad.
yeah Daddy is a hard one to get through, their early stuff is a heavier sound and what made me love them, been listening to them since 92/93. you should listen to twist lol possibly in your own time though
If you like this song there is a great chance you will definitely like most of their catalog if not pretty much all. Korn is definitely a nostalgic band for me. To say the least. Definitely on my mount Rushmore of bands.
I’ve suggested to you 21 Pilots and LP. 2 bands I’m going to recommend. Alabama Shakes Hold On and Avenged Sevenfold Cosmic. Both amazing songs to listen to and for reactors.
Twisted Transistor is one of my favorites by them. Probably because I have a screwy brain 🤣🤔. Coming Undone, Falling Away From Me, Alone I Break and Get Up! follow closely. It's *very important* to hear all of it, but it's a *heavy* song and not a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd reaction type song. The song Daddy makes me hurt. ....as a mom and well other stuff..... it was/is a VERY needed song unfortunately, especially for people that needed a cathartic song and Jonathan Davis (lead singer) got catharsis. I understand they've only performed it live a limited number of times, I am grateful it wasn't played the night I saw them, and yt won't or shouldn't bite. Jonathan released a song for Type 1 Diabetes awareness after his young son had a medical emergency related to his diagnosis.
You need to react to the video as well. It's a great song but the video is gold. I don't want to spoil why, I hope nobody else does but it's great
Agreed
agree
Most definitely
💯 his mind will be blown 😂

well said, powerful meaning in their songs and the lyrics Korn much like Static X was underrated back then.
well said.
If you want to hear how much Korn has evolved in their sound, check out "Blind" or "Shoots and Ladders" from their 1995 debut album.
You should also listen to Y’all Want A Single. They wrote it because the music executives wanted a single on the new album. It’s a diss towards the music industry.
100% yes, I always say to anyone who want to hear from a band on the inside trying to expose the industry to listen to this song.
Korn - Blind Live @ woodstock 99
I grew up with Jonathan Davis. Saw Korn live multiple times. His lyrics and subjects for his lyrics are dark but I can say his music saved my ass a few times while growing up. He used to work in a mortuarium :)
Korn is just one of those iconic bands that you know after a few chords. They are amazing in concert also.

Thank you so much for your comment! You suggested the 2 songs I thought he would dig! 🤘🏻
While spoiler warning needed, and daddy being top of the list for reactors discovering korn yall want a single is a great off the worn out path song... and korn has an amazing amount of those
Korn helped get Limp Bizkit a record deal. They did several songs together. I'd like to see you react to "Blind", "Clown", "Somebody Someone"
Korn was the gateway drug into metal for me as a kid.😊
The Official Music Video has rappers playing the band members, its really funny
Daddy is one of the bravest pieces of music ever written.
Daddy is DARK and painful, I can't listen to it and not cry knowing the story behind the song

I really recommend OLDER Korn . the first album was great... it is pretty raw and i think you will dig it.

If you like this song there is a great chance you will definitely like most of their catalog if not pretty much all. Korn is definitely a nostalgic band for me. To say the least. Definitely on my mount Rushmore of bands.
nah bruh you gotta watch the video too!! It makes the song
You gotta check out the music video for this song tho. Your mind will be blown 💯
You should see the actual video where they were portrayed by Famous Rappers including Xzibit and Snoop
Korn is one of the best rock bands ever. up there next to system of a down for me. please react to more
I’ve suggested to you 21 Pilots and LP. 2 bands I’m going to recommend. Alabama Shakes Hold On and Avenged Sevenfold Cosmic. Both amazing songs to listen to and for reactors.
you really should have watched the video for this one. Its funny as hell and has a lot of artist that Im sure you know in it!
Try Korn's version of Cameo's "Word Up". And "Coming Undone" is good too.
My comment was the most liked on the pink floyd video. Hope ur not holding out on us 🍻
I like this more than Freak on a Leash too.
I understand they've only performed it live a limited number of times, I am grateful it wasn't played the night I saw them,
and yt won't or shouldn't bite.
Jonathan released a song for Type 1 Diabetes awareness after his young son had a medical emergency related to his diagnosis.
I think you'd love the music video as well
