      while the korlok is an ammo sink, i think bet-c is definitely the most threatening mini-boss. her 2 attacks are very hard to dodge and since she moves it can be hard to LOS her like the korlok. You also have to move around her to get at the charge suckers so it can be quite tough depending on your setup. She's also never worth the reward. korloks, prospectors and corruptors all give rewards and the nemesis is a pushover.

    • @richardbudge9416
      @richardbudge9416 Рік тому +19

      Omen towers aren't actually too hard if you prep correctly. Always use your pointer to check each section before you open the omen, and plan accordingly. If there are drones, scout should shoot the drones, so the people on the buttons don't have to worry about them.
      However, all bosses can become easy if you know how to deal with them.
      If you struggle with omens, look up a guide, and it will give you what you need to know
      Korloks only open once a certain number of sprouts have been killed, so if no healing pods are up you can revive your team without too much issue

    Driller is your friend on this one. Both flamethrower and frost cannon work good, but driller's main feature here is trenches.
    Korlok not only is stationary, its spitting weeds also have fixed spawning points. Meaning that, ideally, before triggering it you should dig a few holes (like foxholes mentioned by other people) to hide from blasts. Also, driller can dig to fallen teammates and revive them if he stays alive (which wasn't the case for your team). Throwing axes are good at melee range if there's a need for quick damage burst (for the occasional healing pod or Korlok itself when it opens).
    Overall, it's somewhat akin to the Caretaker or OMEN - preparation and coordination are almost half the work.
    Of course, a cursed cave generation can wreck even the stongest team. Good luck!

    i agree with all your points however personally in my solo missions when i find this, i don't usually have a bad time with it. i think that might be down to the difficulty scaling with player count and that i'm on haz 4, not 5. also might be that gunner has a better time with his shield able to give me breathing room, and of course being gunner to do big dps on damage phases. would be interesting to see how i find it with a squad though, maybe there's more shooters and healers and stuff. great video!

    I find it depends on two factors: How long you've been in the mission (wave size and frequency) and also terrain generation. I can think of at least two occasions where i've lost a mission two a combination of these factors and advising against doing the korlock but the team want to go for it regardless. I'll always go with the team decision because it's more fun but for 1500 xp and 1050 creds it's hard to walk away from.

    as someone who just got the 'legendary miner' achievement, I'd have to agree. Encountering a korlok tyrant in a bad cave can be a run ender. Especially on haz 5 when the moment you loose concentration 3 stray shots put you on the ground. A well built gunner or cryo driller makes life significantly easier, but sometimes you just arent built to deal with one, or your driller goes down in a bad spot, and its all over.

In the end I have to waddle with my gunner legs all the way over to the other side of the map, get nitra for a resupply, revive scout, we go back and kill the (now fully healed) tyrant, revive engineer, revive driller, clean the corruption and crawl back to the drop pod

    I think one supply in cover is always great, let everyone locate the core and look where all the arms are and prepare a bit if needed. Burst heads down, attack core, and burst the heads down before they get a chance to attack, shield if needed, kill healing pots, easy win very often I´d say. Still an unprepared Korlok is just so much worse then every other miniboss and it´s just importatn that you prepare and dont just go shooty shooty on it without the team beeing ready. Ping it, let them know per chat and get everyone ready and the fight will be alot more chill

    Korlok Tyrant Weed is generally the worst but I had one encounter with a Lithophage Corrupter that was worse. Firstly it was in Hollow Bough which is never good. Secondly the cavern me and online randoms fought it in was basically vase shapped (very steep cliffs with little area to stand on but lots of space at the very bottom). Because of how the corrupter basically can hurt you via its lithification trail, that meant being above this thing was a no go because the small spaces would be dangerous. However I did not forsee this and placed down the rock pox tools asap on one of the higher platforms. About 15 collective deaths later and the thing was finally down but it was a pain for me an my team. Also I believe as we were depositing core samples in Molly we got a swarm alert on Haz 4/5.

    You can platform wall off the section with the tyrant weed's line of sight. That way you can safely ignore it if you want. But a well built team can shred Korloks easily. That should be one of your criteria in considering any build: can I kill a Korlok quickly using this build with or without help from teammates?

    Just yesterday, I was doing an escort mission where we broke down in a room right next to a Korlok. I was terrified that I would accidentally proc it and it would kill the Drilldozer. Anyway, a meteor shower started that killed one of its appendages and woke it up. I was freaking out until the meteors kept hitting its pieces and one-shot the core as soon as it opened. Free money.

    For me its the corruptor, not due to the boss itself but the roxpox it leaves behind, if your in a swarm your forced to either leave the damn fave entirely because if you stay your getting stuck, which means more is going to spread. If you clean on a higher hazzard say, my usual, 4, you get ganged in and just die, and between this more roxpox infection is being made and the boss isnt being killed and people are dying further diminishing your qbility to deal with all this stuff at once.

    Oh the Tyrant Weed itself… I still remember the longest and most difficult encounter I’ve had with one.
    The mission: Haz 5 max length & complexity mining, Lithophage with three spikes in Fungus Bogs
    The team: Myself as gunner and my friend as engi, would consider us salt-and-pepper beards at the time
    How it went: Fine for the start, knew it would be long by mission type, first lithophage done earlyish and moving towards the second after a lithophage swarm (neither of us had good weapons for this and burned through a lot). Next room SH*T HIT THE FAN as a swarm spawned right as we broke in, left with a giant fall in front of us and a sharp bend in the tunnel behind, panic drop a resupply on our ledge before a shield and leaving us with barely not enough nitra for another.
    Look over at the far end of the room and the second lithophage is there with a (currently undetected) Korlok behind the meteor. We split up to go looking for materials and to start the lithophage when the Korlok pops, room is mostly open and it’s up on a slight ridge so we have basically no cover. One Iron Will gets used as both of us are sniped while trying to figure out if we should fight it now or leave it. The path forward is also behind the Korlok but we both know we need to get more nitra beforehand so we dig a tunnel around the side. A meteor drops in the last room and we do it getting out okayish for the most part, complete the rest of the objectives besides the last lithophage & Korlok.
    Coming back we know we have to clear it first and now we have a resupply we can drop and about half ammo, we dig through the intended path and find the heart was somehow in a WORSE spot than the other side. Second Iron will gets used as a swarm hits us mid phase two and we back off, call our resupply in, and go back in. Healing pods seem to always drop away from us in the worst spots possible as we duck in and out of our tunnels to try and get this mission done, eventually pop it and clutch with a last-second shield on the resupply after my friend had gone down on it. Eventually we finish it off and clear out the lithophage with ~10% ammo and low health, a SECOND meteor dropping right after which we say f*ck that and finally get out with a long sprint to the drop pod.
    All in all it took us an hour and twenty minutes to complete that mission and that encounter has now made us always chuckle whenever we hear MC say it’s just a ‘Simple Mining Mission’, because we know it never really is. Rock and Stone, miners!

    • @nameisnttaylor
      @nameisnttaylor  Рік тому

    As a flamethrower Driller player, I find it to be pretty ok, but that's just cause I can easily kill a number of spitters at once, and drills are a good source of damage for ammo conservation if need be. Plus I run the Exploding reload OC on the subata which is a lot of damage for the damage phase. Since I am always in the middle of the Korok I tend to use the Super Melee attack (I genuinely just brainfarted on the name right now lol) which also chunks it for a lot.

    I agree with all of your points made about the tyrant weed, but one thing that is nice about it is that it's stationary. Sure you got a bad spawn point here but most of the time you can just ignore it and carry on with your mission. That's the one thing I find annoying about the prospector and corrupter is that they constantly move. The prospector isn't as bad but I play solo a lot and especially when I was playing driller it was impossible to keep track of the prospector from the ground. The corrupter I find even more annoying because you can't ignore it or you'll just get pestered by rockpox larva the whole time during the mission.

    Now its 2 players down and suddenly its a lot less firepower and you get another rush of enemies. One of the last 2 gets downed because he forgot to heal and the last ine standing is just a matter of time till he goes down
    Iron will will lead to a few futile attempts to revive gunner, but he went down either far away or hard to reach. Reviving any other player leads to again, a down

    there are problems in your approach, lightly speaking
    Lok-1 is largely a single-target weapon without Explosive Rounds OC, and you're using it for crowd clear
    Shard Diffractor is alright, it can work with Lok-1, but it leaves you really defenseless to pushes. Should've taken mines or plasma nades with this setup.
    But those swarmers that gave you trouble? Diffractor can easily wipe them, just beam all over the place and they'll be gone.
    You brought the right tools for the job, and just didn't really use them well.
    Good luck on your next trip, miner! Good vid!
    I am also really biased because I use ECR Lok-1 and Hyperprop, and Korlok is a joke for that engie setup. I personally think it's good. Nemesis is worse, much worse, just don't think it's fun to fight.

    I would argue that the OMEN is actually harder.
    The difficult part of a Korlok is that it requires coordinated fire, otherwise it will regenerate. However, with a little prep, the stationary shooters and large hitbox can be eliminated very quickly, with little mechanical effort.
    On the other hand, an OMEN requires both coordinated fire and positioning, as well as decent prep and mechanical skill. The wide variety of attacks, which can come from different angles and sometimes through walls, means cheese is much more difficult and there will still need to be a lot of mechanical skill to dodge while firing. Add to the fact that one of the modules explicitly makes reviving much more difficult, and the possibility of a team wipe is much higher.
    Also, you ran this without a gunner and without too much single-target damage, and that makes any miniboss much harder.

    • @nameisnttaylor
      @nameisnttaylor  Рік тому

      very true, and yeah, OMEN is certainly a rough one no doubt. i find that i’m typically able to solo the OMEN in group lobbies even on the harder difficulties, but the korlok feels more like it NEEDS to be a team effort, hence putting it in first place on my list. OMEN is certainly second for me though
