    About this video:
    This build is a custom piece of fine furniture that is designed for two large dogs. It has two drawers on the outside and the two inside compartments are shelves for electronics with fold down doors.
    I didn't realize finely crafted dog kennels existed. I was shown a picture of a beautifully built kennel and asked if I could create something similar.
    Usually, larger projects - and this one is HUGE - are less complicated than smaller, intricate builds. But, a combination of making it up as I went along and all the parts that went into this thing - made this a months-long build.
    I'm happy with the way it turned out and the client is too. I don't think I would ever build another, but it's one of those projects that taught me a lot about solving problems.

    Damn, you do some amazing work. I want to get into wood working. We remodeled our kitchen last year and I built a pantry with a barn door, I’d never done anything like it. I wish I would have had some of your tools it would have saved me a lot of time!

      Thanks! Slowly over time you acquire the tools needed to complete certain projects and then tools that make it faster and more accurate. You don't need all of them to create great projects, tho!

      Do not discount yard sales and flea markets. Do your research so you are familar with brands and what they "should" look like. Sometimes you can score a really good deal and all it requires is a little cleaning and lubrication.

    Great video. I'm planning to build one in a couple weeks. How thick is your face frame. Also, are you using rebars? How thick are they. Thanks again.

      This project is more advanced and required more tools, but you obviously don't need all of those to start woodworking. Depending on where you are it costs less than $750 US to set up a new shop that will keep you busy for years. If you're interested, check out the guide in the description. Good luck!

    I was planning to use 3/4 pine for my face frame. 3/8 rebar. Not to sure if 3/4 pine will hold?

    • @OutoftheWoodwork
      @OutoftheWoodwork  5 років тому +2

      Thanks! After milling, my face frame pieces ended up being about 13/16" thick and about 1 7/8" wide. It is plenty strong enough once it's assembled especially with mortise and tenon joinery. I also used 7/16" smooth rolled steel bars from Metal Supermarket. Good luck!

    Is he using a metal disc sander to sand the rebar or is it a wood one with a metal sanding disc? I have a benchtop belt and disc sander that I use for wood. If I put a metal sanding disc on it, will it cause problems to the machine?

    • @OutoftheWoodwork
      @OutoftheWoodwork  5 років тому

      Thanks for the comment. It's a bench top sander just like yours. Sandpaper can be used for wood or metal. I'm just cleaning up the edges here and 120 grit sandpaper works fine.

    can you please give a list of all of the wood you used

    • @OutoftheWoodwork
      @OutoftheWoodwork  4 роки тому

      Hey Tyler, I don't have a cut list, but I used poplar from a mill for the frames and milled it down to about 13/16" thick and about 1 7/8" wide. The trim and panels are also poplar. The top is walnut, the bottom is 3/4" plywood, and the ship lap back is construction grade 1x6s, but I would recommend doing that in poplar or some other denser wood, if you can. Hope that helps!

    Now that's proper carpentry! Could I ask how many hours went in to making this? The end result looks fantastic.

    • @OutoftheWoodwork
      @OutoftheWoodwork  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I would say it took about 100 hours with applying the finish...mainly because I was figuring it out as I went along. It would take about 60-70 if you had a plan

    Obviously you have great woodworking and cabinetry skills, but this seems over-engineered. Maybe, maybe not, but it does look nice.

    • @OutoftheWoodwork
      @OutoftheWoodwork  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment, Robby. When I'm making a piece like this for someone else, I always lean toward over-engineering.

    Hi, this wasn't very informative. Very nice kennel. Perhaps next version you might want to state the next step you are about to do, show it, and then periodically say how it fits into the overall project...? Beautiful camera work.
