- How to build a dog Crate / Kennel / Cage that will go well with any indoor home furniture ideas. I used poplar and walnut as my preferred wood costing around $400 just for the wood, but you can switch it out for pine from the big box stored, If you want something on the cheaper side for your Dog Kennel. all the black hardware i got from Lowe's and the rebar i got from Home Depot. All my wood pieces are cut to 3 in wide and the rebar is 3/8 of an inch thick. with everything said and done this was around $500-$600 for all the materials

May I ask what kind of wood is the back and floor made of as well as width and length please.
I just love when a pro uses tools that a lot of us have, like you’re not showing off very expensive equipment. Thank you so much!!!!!
Your welcome 🙂
Lol. Who has these tools?!
But Milwaukee is still better
Go to Home Depot they can cut it for you and it’s still way cheaper just find your measurements 🤷🏼♀️
I will be trying to make this with a sliding door and more closed for my dog soon, he gets really anxious and scared from thunderstorms and needs a place to hide. This helps a lot and makes it seem a lot easier than what i thought. Thanks for the tips and ideas!!
This is incredible. I need to make one
This was a great video. I've been looking for a piece that is exactly like what you made! Quality and craftsmanship are beautiful!
Tip for anyone watching, drill fully through the top piece of wood and only 1/2 into the bottom, get front square and then drop the rebar in through the top holes. This will
Be covered by the top of the kennel
That's a great tip! Thank you!
If you have OCD like me… use dowels to cover them (top holes) up afterwards. That way, you’ll sleep better knowing they’re covered even though nobody will ever see them.
@@jswoodcodesign I like your thinking. Instead of grinding down each piece, drill slightly over. Drop in from the top and drive a dowel in with wood glue so they don't rattle. You could also put some other glue in the bottom hole if the bottom was moving that extra 1/16 of an inch or so.
Thank you for sharing your process! It looks great! I love the hardware you used for your hinges and that you painted then black. Looks very classy!😊
Amazing craftsmanship...keep up the great work 👊
Magnifique travail tre estetique j'adore bravo 👏
Nice vid, Imma try this.Keep up the good work
sana all!! my ganyang gamit pang karpentero.
WOW ! BEAUTIFUL !
Thank you!
This video is awesome!! your work is beautiful, very talented!! keep up the good work!!!
Thank you!
Real nice job, contemplating making my own now 👏
I'm in the middle of making a 7ft by 2.5 ft by 4 ft dog crate for 2 massive pitbulls. This is quite beautiful bud. Nice video and awesome crate. Keep up the good work sir.
Hi nice build.
Thank you for sharing
If you like the video, hit the like button. If you didn't like the video, hit that like button. Lmao
Gave me a great idea I may build it out of cedar 2x6s and put a fish tank on top of the cage. This will save me space but also can provide a beautiful spot for my dog. Thanks for the idea
Great idea, I would like to see it when you get it done ✔️
Nice work!
Great video! Soo good
Great build
Thank you!!!
Keep it up my friend!
Will do, Thank you!
Great job homie
Gonna make something like this to store firewood outside next to my smoker 😎
Love This!
Thank you!
Great Work !!
Thank you
What was used for the flooring. I didn’t see him put anything in. Then when it was moved into the house there was something on the bottom. But it looks great and excellent job.
Love it! Now to make it for our dogs. Definitely subbed as a fellow Arizonan!
Any suggestions for doing this with out a table saw and biscuit jointer
Biscuit jointer definitely not needed. And probably just buy them to the correct size to avoid needing a table saw. Also don't build in the summer haha 😆 its to hot!
Literally looked this up for our dog Bella too 😅
Very Nice
Nice video. The edges on the rebar after a cut would be called burrs. When you grind it clean you would say deburr Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the tip
Bro 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This so nice do u think a wood countertop would also work for the top?
Awesome job ! but please can we put the link blueprints?
Isa kang alamat
Excellent work. Really Nice look.. How can you get the plans if available ?
Unfortunately I do not have plans 😕
nice work, great finish. What did you do for the floor and back of the kennel?
3/4 in plywood
@@JARMade did you do anything special to it in case of accidents?
No I did not lol
So if I liked it thumbs up and if I didn't like it thumbs up I like that
How did you fasten the bottom to the frame? Is the frame on top of the plywood?
How did you attach the bottom of the crate
Awesome. Can you build me one?
Could you possibly share some plans for it?
I don't have plans unfortunately
Where did you source your hardwood? Also, what did you use for the back panel and for the bottom?
Local lumber supply store and i used plywood for back and bottom. Just painted.
What saw was that you used to cut the wood? Also what do you recommend if they have an accident in it to clean it since there is no tray?
i used a miter saw table saw. and you would have to go inside to clean it.
Hey, I went back through and checked over every thing. And rewatched the video several times, what did you use for the bottom? And just wondering how you got it to fit? Just measured what you had after you got all the sides/from/back together? Or did you already have the bottom measured and cut?
Hey yeah sorry I forgot to put it in the video but I just cut 2 pieces of plywood to fit the opening and used pocket holes to attach it
What's the actual size of this crate including height please?
Damn!! I’m feeling that build. Do you have the cut list to send me?
Unfortunately this was before I started making plans
What table saw is that? Why not use plywood or a cheaper wood if material cost was 600? Im guessing it was the solid walnut top? Nice work. I make amd sell these as well.
Its the delta table saw 36-725 and idk I just wanted to work with solid wood and walnut instead of staining this time. Plus it was a gift for my sister
What did you use to attach the top?
Hey I’m just now seeing this 😅 but I have a suggestion if you sell these. Maybe include a gap between the dogs. Example instead of one row of rebar separating them. But have 2 rows but with a gap big enough to allow something to be lowered and raised between the 2 rows by a knob of some sort. Something durable enough to withstand a curious dog trying to get it but flexible enough to be able to be rolled up for easy concealment. This would be so the dogs can’t see each other if they are being aggressive in the cage with the other dog. The human has the ability to cut off them Being Able to see each other preventing aggressive behavior and constant barking
That's a Great suggestion!
How did you join the frame together? I didn’t see it in the video. Did you use glue or screws?
Glue and pocket holes screws
What size wood did you use? 2x4 or 1x4?
what is the tool you use to drill your holes in the wood before you instal your screws. It's a small blue wood holder type looking tool. I want one!
That is a kreg pocket hole jig. I have a link in the description for you to find it easily
Really nice I've watched a few times and started building one myself based off of yours. I noticed you cut out a slot for those pieces you used to connect the top you did not show that what were they thanks?
They are biscuits but honestly is not needed.
@@JARMade Not the biscuits the metal pieces you used to hold the top down they were recessed in the wood, thanks
Oh sorry, they are figure 8 clips
Did you coat the bottom with anything to make it easier to clean up accidents?
I did not. I just painted the plywood
One medium dog and one normal size person😮🤣😘
Where can I find plans for this?
What are the dimensions of the kennel?
What did you use as the bottoms? I would need this water proof and possibly removable or removable trays to clean. I have a lab that can’t control her pee at night? Great job!
I just used plywood. You might need to use a removal tray
Do the doors go all the way back when opened?
Yes they do. 🙂
What did you use and how did you make the base?
I just used 3/4 in plywood
It’s a beautiful kennel, but I did not see how the back or the floor were made or, put together with the rest of the frame. Also, it felt like there could’ve been a little bit more explanation, and less B-roll. Normally leave the b-roll for the end
What type of flooring is inside the crate for the dogs? Is it just plywood painted black?
Yes just plywood painted black
can someone explain what he put in the biscuit joiner holes besides glue? its hard to tell. All I see is him putting glue there. Surely he put something in the holes right? Im a newbie.
Yes I added biscuits in between the top planks
hello, do you take orders to custom build kennels (I have a 110lb German shepherd and would like a furniture dog crate like this one for him). thanks
Where are you located?
What did you use for the bottom?
I just used plywood and painted it black
How much it cost you to make it? I love it
It was around $600 worth of materials
@@JARMade Most of that would be the poplar and the walnut. You could use pine or spruce for about 1/3 the cost.
Pine is definitely a cheaper alternative for the top
Wish you would have mentioned measurements
What did you use for the floor
Just plywood painted black
Where do I buy that pocket hole blue thing?! Help
Oh Amazon. There is a link that will take you directly to it in the description :)
Hey bro I live in Az as well, we gotta connect!
I would be down some time !
I live here to lol 😂 I have none of said equipment
How did you install the top?
8 shape fasteners
Hi, The wide frame is 3 in, how thick the timber for frame u use ? Sorry maybe I missed something on the vid
Yes it's slightly thicker than 3/4 in
@@JARMade thanks 👍
@@JARMade what is the minimum wide you think is possible to use ? Do u think 2 in wide ( tasmania oak ) is ok ? Thanks :))
2 in wide should be ok as long as you have enough of the rebar going into the wood. I personally have not tired 2in wide
@@JARMade thanks bro
How much of a gap do you have between the doors and their frame?
Around 1/8 if I remember correctly lol 😆
@@JARMade okay thank you! I’m looking at building one myself and wanted to make sure I sized that properly.
Hey, could you tell me the dimensions you used? Also what material did you decide on for the bottom? I usually go for plastics in case they get wet for whatever reason. Thanks!
It is 5'6" long 2' wide and 33" tall i believe , I just used plywood for the bottom.
What is the paint that you used for this ?
Honestly it's been so long that I don't remember
what did you use for the bottom and the back?
Just plywood
@@JARMade awesome. Thanks. That piece looks nice.
Thank you!
I know I’m a year late but what did you put on the bottom
Just plywood
Quick qustion where do YOU get the wood
I get my wood from a local wood distributor, Peterman lumber
@@JARMade thx gunna try this for my dogs
Good luck, you got this!
@@JARMade thx brother ill update you
is there a materials list available.
Unfortunately not. I can come up with one
you used 2x10s? and cut yo 3"?
I used 3/4 in poplar from the lumber yard an they come in all sorts of different sizes
What are the floors made of?
I just used plywood
@@JARMade painted black?
Oh yes I painted the plywood on the bottom black
Okay. How much sir?
Do you have cut list
I do not unfortunately
Do you sell kits? I am interested.
I do not sorry
Who was the first human you held in there?...hopefully against their will. Jk😂😂
My dogs would chew all the wood up
How do I find someone to make this for me?
You can always try looking on Facebook market place
what if the dog likes chewing? i know a dog who legit chewed an entire deck down to lil chunks
Yeah not for a dog that likes wood lol
Buy ur dog chew toys so it could Chew dat
How big is your dog
Hmm not to big lol idk normal size dog
How cheap did you actually build this for? Since wood has been expensive and hard to find for the last 12 months
$600. Considering it has a walnut top
My dog would chew through the wood
If I were to buy one from you???? How much???
I sell them locally for $1400
You should sell them online you can make tons of money
I do have them up for sale in my local area but no one wants to pay for hand crafted when they can get it cheaper at the big box store. And I can't do Shipping either it would cost way to much
@@JARMade Where do you have them on sale? I am in Arizona as well
Facebook marketplace under "dog kennel's furniture"
I built one for my dog and my son, but now my son just cries because he can't get out.
How do you introduce a child to a kennel? It was a lot easier with my dog.
Eventually they will understand 😌
I like how you take care of your dog, but treat the fish like it’s nothing but a decoration
its pretty but my old dog woulda destroyed it. she even broke metal padlocks
