I'm not a professional woodworker, I just enjoy watching you make things. Alot of people seem to have opinions on how they would do things differently. I think it'd be really cool if you could do maybe a 6 month and a year "check in/ update" to see how your work has held up to weather and heavy use.

tip- bring your first pocket hole screws in far enough so you don't cut them off in the process of squaring up the material and when cut to final length. you glued it up and then sandwiched it in the legs and all that jazz just something I noticed. good work
My only concern with this build is the future horizontal movement of those benches and tables. People sitting on those benches will constantly shift side to side. And with only screws holding them down, they will losen over a short period of time. Your hands are obviously clean now the transaction is complete. But possible future references might be needed to obtain future large jobs
He super doesn't care or doesn't know. Those table legs and bench legs are super unstable. It won't last.

I love the idea but some major flaws with this method. 1. Pocket holes are great don’t get me wrong but I’ve done a few myself on tables and I would rather put in the extra time and go with dowels, biscuit, or domino (if your willing to drop the $1000 festool), if you do go with pocket hole, be sure to get lots and lots of 48in/+ clamps then having something like a router sled to plane it after 2. I’d be worried about getting a call in 12 months of some unhappy customers because of those boards will be moving. 3. All those boards looked like the were milled down pervious to the video starting, meaning it was ran through a planer/joiner to get rid of any bows or warps with the boards. Never have I been able to find more than a dozen perfectly straight boards that aren’t flawed somewhere and needs milling.
Biscuits are only good for alignment and add zero support or strength. Dowels and domino's are better, but honestly not sure if I'd call them better than pocket holes either. And I prefer dowels/dominos

Whack 6” off those benches so they can slide under the tables and that is a perfect project. Good job.
Did this guy really try to glue a board to the benches he just applied 4 coats of waterproofing sealer too? Uh.... yah that's not gonna work.
Not sure Im a fan of these but you got paid, you got views, you win. Where I live anyone and their mom could make these with zero effort so your sell price would be wayyyyy less.

Defo worth adding self levelling feet. Always understand the space the piece will reside in.
I am a carpenter by trade and never seen pocket screws use as a support for a glue ups of the table. I use Domino for that purpose. Anyway nice build.
that's because it's not the best idea, it seems like this was a rushed 24h job or something, there was so much potential to do it right.
They look good now but they’ll warp with weather/temp change. You can use z clips to allow the boards to move. Pocket holes are great but not in this application. Also understanding the grain and how wood moves will help you become a better carpenter.
I agree pocket holes aren't very good for thick material. I prefer spline but if it's dry they won't move much.
The glue is doing most of the work anyway though.
Notices at around @5:00 you were picking up lint from the roller. Next time try taping the roller up with painters tape, squeeze it on good and then peel. This removes all lint from the roller.
Or he could buy quality finishing product and quality rollers
Nice work, those tables look great. The fact that they're so massively large - I think I would totally underestimate the logistics of building, maneuvering, and delivering pieces so big.
Cross bracing is a must on those types of legs. Commercial use of these tables and benches will eventually destroy them from side to side movement with no support.
Cedar has a natural oil that can interfere with glue joints. A little glue squeeze out is desirable to prevent a glue starved joint.

the thing(s) I dislike about the tables/benches are the screws. Aren't they countersunk? it seems it would feel pretty weird if you grab the edge of the table to get up and feel those screw heads. But they do look nice
By far, the best pieces of furniture in the restaurant. Great job mate!!!!!
Looks great and efficient. But that's not really steady when you shake it sidewards.
as I was watching I couldn't help but wonder if the table legs would look better the other way around so that the arched section was facing out and you wouldn't be able to see the screw heads. Not sure if that is possible or the way the manufacturer suggested.
Those pocket holes are going across the grain. Did you take them out after the glue dried? You'll run into wood movement issues if those stay in place.
I probably would've added some clearcoat if the stain doesn't include the clearcoat in it.
You said cedar is a soft wood and some people aren't exactly the best at using coasters.
There’s some things I would’ve done differently all your bracing under I would’ve cut it at a 45° that way it’s just not a flat board sticking out and it was a lip on the stand I would’ve cut the 40° to that little lip but it look good also I would’ve put maybe one more for the legs in the middle it’ll give him more character and definitely more support Just more in material

Man - those tables are beautiful. Though, I'd be a little nervous about the pocket holes as the joinery method. With the being so long, wood movement will actually matter - are you worried at all about them pulling or cracking down the road? I'd be sweating an unhappy phone call from the customer by next fall lol.
I think you're 100% right on this. Not only do the pocket holes not allow for movement, but those legs also restrict natural width-wise movement. They look fantastic now but who knows in a year from now :(
Typical wood joinery purist, lol. Nothing wrong with pocket holes for a project like this, looks great and it will last.
@@JohnnyGarton haha definitely wouldn’t consider myself a “wood joinery purist”. Not even sure that’s a thing 😅.
Do whatever works best for the project is my usual approach.
However, I have seen pocket hole screws fail in that kind of application on more than one occasion. They’re best suited for plywood and cabinet construction. Nothing to do with being a purist lol
Edge to edge with tight fitting joints and modern wood glue there’s no need for hardware of any kind. In fact, if these tops ever become damaged they can’t be flipped over for a fresh surface. I like the look of the finished tables and benches, though. Scott
Is there a lot of humidity change in the desert? Probably wouldn’t be too concerned about seasonal movement.
I am in Joshua Tree frequently, I need to go by and see if that Behr stain failed as badly as it did for me on decks. They have greatly improved their paints hope this is the same.
I like that this was built with minimal tools... there are so many videos teaching how to do something but include unrealistic tool selection...

The support underneath will not last, not with glue alone.
I hated having to go to “29 Stumps” for desert training in the Marines.
Pro tip don’t you pocket holes and framing material to build furniture!

Yo Yo Yo Big Mike!!! Vey cool video Bud. All the projects came out Dope Bud. Here's a thought if you needed to make them that large again how about moving the legs in about 1.5' shortening the span. Maybe no need for bracing underneath. Again, just brainstorming as I was watching. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!!
I think the legs you put on are suppose to face the other way and I think panhead fasteners would sit more flush. I think they look nice either way.

Great video. I would bump your price up cause 30% of that is taxed. While 130k salary is good for a person for a business it is not that great. Thank you for mentioning the crown in the boards I feel this if over looked in alot of videos. Also with cedar you want to use stainless steel hardware as anything else will leech out black residue over time outside.

Daaaang that restaurant got those for a steal! I legit thought they’d be $2000 minimum each. Especially for that leg hardware and cedar in that length

No lateral bracing though. Best stretcher looks silly just square hanging underneath the benches. Four or five months tops.
Why not a domino or biscuit jointer? Could you have tapered the ends on the under support boards for the benches? Would there have been loss of strength?
29 Palms is close to where I live. I’m in the Coachella valley! I’ve been wanting to get into wood working, but I’m afraid that there’s no much business here in the valley.
God damn, after time and materials, I doubt you are cutting minimum wage. I wish wood working could be profitable while having a life, but it is 100% a labor of love. You make just enough to pay for a house and food but are working every hour of every day.
Nice work man. Only thing I would've done different was make the benches so I could tuck them under the table but that is more of a preference thing I guess. Plus I have a small space so I instinctually think of how to save the most space and that restaurant doesn't seem to have that problem.
I like the overall product and it was smart to put the spiines in but you missed an oppurtunity to paint the spines black or even just put 45 degree bevels at the ends.

Just curious about weather or not the stain will hold up in the heat ? I tried a similar stain and the majority of it peeled of by the next summer , wonder why ?
Why did you drill pocket holes at the ends of each tabletop when they were eventually cut off? Lol

Built poorly. That racking is an embarrassment. Wobble legs even without a load. I see gaps between the joints already showing.
Man, it doesn’t cost more to do it right the first time.
Those huge table tops came out great! Using pocket screws is a good shout with limited clamps - how was the finished product compared to a classic glue up?
Wow, $1000 for the legs for one dinning table and two benches. Plus wood. One would have to charge $3000 to make a profit (at least)

Yikes. These things will start falling apart within a year. So much wiggling side to side on that table. Think about the 100s of people a day that are going to be resting their elbows on it, bumping into it, using it to brace themselves as they stand, etc. This is a horrible job.

2x6x8 Cedar boards are $33.90 ea. 14 x $33.90 = $474.60. Plus tax, screws, and the $618 per set (leg hardware) = we would lose money.

If he would've sold the tables for 500$... Watching the video till the end helps ;) He charged 2550$ for labor + materials separately for 4 days of work and even subtracted his hired labor...

using countersunk screws on your flat metal hardware didn’t look great. Since the metal brackets wrapped around the tabletop, a more robust solution would have been hammering in some captive nuts to the tabletop, connecting with bolts and washers from the bottom
