I upgraded to the Clara color from a first gen Kindle Oasis. I contemplated a Kindle Paperwhite and a Libra but I liked the size of the Clara. Loving it so far. The color screen looks great imo when looking at book covers.
Same. I had the paperwhite. It lasted 11 months before the battery failed. Also the length of the warranty. I missed the 1st gen Oasis so much. It lasted right up until this year. Glad you like the Clara color. Guess I'm headed to the store :)
@@santios87 Maybe because I upgraded from a first gen Oasis, but I'm finding it to be incredibly fast! I've never used any other eReader so I have nothing else to compare it to.
@@vr121 thank you! Looks like the issue is only annoying in one book that is like 800 pages, so maybe it can’t handle smoothly large books or it is a single book issue
Help please. Husband is buying a kobo for me….anyone I want…spinning as can’t decide . What would you get your wife. Clara b&w, Clara colour. Or Libra colour. Please help I can’t make decisions
I just got my Clara colour and while initially skeptical I’m really enjoying having colours even if reading most b and w text. I haven’t done a side by wide comparison with my Forma but so far the text looks great
Be careful to look at the bottom right. Kobo has moved the charging port ever so slightly to the right. It temans not all covers allow access to the port.
It's the page buttons that make all the difference between the two models IMO. It can be quite annoying(and almost impossible one-handed) trying to go back and forth between pages because of how often it misinterprets input; and as someone who enjoys reading on my deck, it can be awkward figuring out how to stay warm in cooler months while still keeping a finger available for frequent page turns. And it's one of those issues you don't realize is a persistent annoyance until you've had a touch-only ereader for a while.
I bought the Clara Colour and returned it today after one day of use. Colours are totally washed out and it has some weird ghosting....like when I typed into the search and then deleted what I typed I could see ghosting from what I previously typed...like it's not refreshing quick enough. I also saw previous pages I was on ghosting onto the next pages. Really weird. I am reading a lot of photography magazines and was really looking forward reading these on the Kobo Clara colour because of the pictures but it looked horrible. I also had to bump the back light to almost 80% because the screen was so dark. I'll stick to my trusted b/w for now.
I've been using a 6inch reader for years. The size is cute and very portable. I mainly use it for reading epubs though because pdf texts are too small on the screen. I got the Libra Colour so I can read pdfs, graphic novels, and colored illustrated books. Those are perfectly readable on the Libra Colour, but I would say the texts would be too small for a 6 inch. If you're gonna mainly read epub novels sticking with a bw reader would be preferable imo, unless you really like the idea of colored book covers and highlighting in colors. Yeah at 7% brightness, it's about the same look with my Kobo Touch's screen so reading on it is still a great experience.
I just got a Kobo Clara Colour. I thought about it a lot, considering all the options out there. I felt that color wasn't essential, but I often read books with images and illustrations, and I'd like to have my art and anatomy books in color. I also have many PDFs that I'd like to convert to EPUB and be able to read them on the Kobo. Thank you for your reviews.
Another great video. Have you had a chance to look at the new Clara BW at all? Wanted to know if the text sharpness and white backing is the same as a kindle as obviously its not on the colour models 😊
The comments at 5:16 are the reason to go with the Libra over the Clara - you dont need colour unless you're rrading comics and if you're reading comics the extra inch and storage space makes a difference.
To answer the question. I think so, mainly for the fact that you can put clara colour in the pocket. The libra is too big for my pants. Portability and weight is top priority for ebooks in my opinion
I just got the B&W today so I look forward to trying it and making a video about it soon. In general, though, I prefer black and white because I rarely read anything that involves color. The extra clarity and crispiness is worth it for me over color.
The Clara BW outshines both unless you need the larger size . The 1300 display simply is great if you want portability get the Clara BW since it fits in my varsity jacket inside pocket perfectly. For home use alone i might get a larger one
Hi, Mannetpaul; just a small question, it wasn't clear: when Kobo sleeps, it shows the cover, like Kindle, and in color? Thanks in advance, and congrats to the channel.
Yes, there is a setting to show the book cover while sleeping. However, if you turn that setting off, it will show this new screensaver that you can see in the video when I put in the Libra Color and Clara Color side by side. This seems to be a new update for the color e-readers. Before, it would just show a simple white screen with “Sleeping” written on the bottom.
Thank you for your honest review. Being honest I am kindle user, I have the paper white and the previos generation When I want to see magazines or some color I turn to the kindle fire, I also use for Libby or hoopla searches. I am guessing kindle eventually will put out a color kindle, we will sit and wait.
The thing that excites me about color ebooks is that I'm very light sensitive, and reading for long periods on a screen bothers my eyes. It'd be great to have something that's easy on my eyes and that I can read comics on properly(even if the color is obviously limited).
Hi Maneet Paul! I bought Kobo Clara 2E about 4 months ago after watching your helpful reviews. Now I can't seem to find Kobo Clara 2E, Kobo Nia or Kobo Libra 2 in the market. I'm in India and would like to know if Kobo has discontinued these relatively new products in every market including Canada or there is a supply chain disruption?
Great review I’m looking at this e-reader. I have been using the kindle 4th Gen since it can out 12 years ago and it’s still going strong. Only issue is no back light. I bet the screen quality is outstanding compared to what I’m currently looking at.
I just returned the Kobo Libra Colour. I really wanted to like it, but the washed out colors and screen door effect were a no-go for me. I was aware of the limitations of the current technology, but It really makes you have to keep the backlight on to get any semblance of normal reading. The black and white is just not as strong. I'm a dedicated and enthusiastic reader of ebooks and own a Kindle Paperwhite, Boox Page, and a Kindle Scribe. To me there was no comparison and no advantage over the regular black and white. If I want a great colour experience, I'll just use my Amazon fire tablet.
Unless mine was defective, all you can expect is some washed out colors. I tried some comics and some images + just regular reading and it was very underwhelming. Your mileage may vary@@crvenom

I'm still using a kobo glo from 1012 and i want to update to the clara. I'm still debating between the bw and the colour since I'm hearing a lot of bad reviews about the reading book experience on the clara colour. I mainly read books but the price difference is 15€ (10$) between the two device. I have to admit that having it with color just gives that touch to the experience. Need some help :(
Hello there, thanks for your comparison, I just picked up a Clara Colour and I was wondering if you've encountered on comics when you page turn it does this rainbowing/colour blending effect which is really annoying. I tried to turn off rainbow effect as I believe that to be the issue but it still happens..any suggestion appreciated. I wanted to get the colour just for coloured highlights and bit more longevity than just muted colours.
I got a Clara color to replace my Clara HD. I'm kind of disappointed by it to be honest. The color screen is very washed out and the image isn't as sharp as my old HD. I was hoping to use it for graphic novels and pdf ttrpg books. It does not handle pdfs well, and the fuzzy images make graphic novels worse on the Clara Color than just my phone or tablet. It does turn pages in normal ebooks faster, but that's a small benefit. It is not the upgrade that I was hoping it would be.
The silicone case for the 2E that I own doesn't fit on the Colour. The charging port has been slightly moved. So I could keep the case, but I would have to get the ereader out each time I want ti charge it. It's a bother to me.
Thank you for a decent review, so much hype and snooby attitude towards the Clara. It's far better one handed as you said. I read comics also and such snooby towards the Clara and false info cannot read comics. Rubbish. The Libra is not much better and the price difference between the Libra and Clara is not worth it. If the screen was glass, flush and stronger material could see a justification on price difference but it's still all plastic and the same type of plastic. The stylus is 1/2 the price of the Libra again, not worth it. Not getting that much extra to justify the much higher price, which maybe why the Libra is getting more reviews and hype, because kobo makes more money from the Libra
