Another excellent review. I compliment you on your review style and content. Always a treat to watch...and I can trust that what you say about a product is spot on!
I feel like the edge retention is aomething people need to start getting over bc if you are planning to use any knife as a long term survival or heavy use tool, a sharpener or knowledge of how to use a rock should be part of your skills. Even the best steel dulls with heavy use and if you are out for several days even the super steels will start to dull after a day or two of heavy use and frankly having one that is easy to sharpen is just as good as one that may last longer but is very difficult to sharpen without tools
My thoughts exactly. You can put a 90 degree spine on any of the Mora models yourself fairly easily, but if you can get it already done for the same price why bother. Just an FYI to anyone interested in the Mora bushcraft black, wait until woot.com runs a special on it. They do every couple weeks and you can get it for 30-40 bucks (sometimes with a ferro rod).
Thank you for this review. I like how you pointed out the differences pro/con. Very informative. Additionally, I do appreciate the budget reviewing of knives. I'm awaiting a couple of Ganzo knives in a few weeks.
I have the Finn Hawk and the Finn Wolf. They both come scary sharp out of the box. Well worth the price for both! I like the Finn wolf a little better because it folds and is a little sharper.
I've heard a lot of people put crap on the 4116 Krupp steel, especially in the knife forums. But for what you're getting, and what you're paying for, it's a great steel. It might need sharpening a bit more often than a mora, but I'm betting that this steel, and the blade as a whole can take at least as much abuse/hard use as any mora blade.
The sheaths are lightweight don’t hold water you can wash them out easily, impervious to conditions, can take it off without removing your belt and can clip it reverse concealing it inside your pants, you can also clip it to gym shorts or a button that’s a lot to say about a sheath that keeps the cost way down
The finn hawks I bought didnt have a true 90 degree spin. I had tonuse a side grinder to get a nice burr on the spin. Very easy fix and it really shoots the sparks off a ferro rod. For the price you cant go wrong with a cold steel finn hawk. If you made me choose between a mora and cold steel finn hawk....i would choose the Mora only because they are made in Sweden and not taiwan like the cold steels. With that said, I own several finn hawks and love them for skinning deer. The blade shape on the finn hawk for my taste does better for skinning tasks.
That is a really nice knife. I like the texturing on the grip, I also noticed at the end of the grip it looks like it is cradled in to rest your thumb, if I am not mistaken. Your other knives are really nice also, I love the other green handled knife, green is my favorite color. For $20 that is a really good deal, and the fact that it has a German forged blade.
Not as good as a mora but it beats a mora when skinning a deer. The blade shape make it a outstanding skinning knife. I prefer mora's over the cold steel finn hawk except when it comes to skinning. I have many mora's but I have 3 finn hawks. The handle on the finn hawk really shines when it is covered in blood....really fantastic rubber textured handle on the finn hawk.
+Glenn056 There's no mystery about it whatsoever. It's Sandvik 20C Shock Absorber, which is pretty much identical to 1095, but a cleaner alloy and therefore possibly even better.
Titvs Vespasianvs Sorry but I've been using mine for a couple months and its holding up just fine. I love Mora's but I have to say that compared to my companion this one has won me over. Don't judge it less you try it, the thing only cost me $18 shipped, I gave it a slight scandivex like all my knives and it is amazing. Their sheath is also better, he didn't show that in this video maybe he didn't push hard enough cause it actually snaps in very tight and has a solid SNAP when it does. I hope Cold Steel keeps making more of these in different designs, cause the handles are freaking awesome and become so comfortable after using them for awhile.
I have been subscribing to bushcraft channels trying to learn something to start in bushcraft because I think that that are important skills for survival but living in brasil it's just easier for me to get a tramontina or a custom knife with 5160 steel. 5160 steel is very common among brazilian custom knife makers. You can get a bushcraft knife with 5160 for around $50 here but If decide I want a mora type knife to start in bushcraft I think I would get the Mora because it is around $5 cheaper and I think the steel might be better.
The big question is "How long is the tang"??? e.g. the Finn Bear has a quarter tang!! ...no competition to any Mora. I'd baton with any Mora but not with a quarter tang knife.
i think i would still rather have the bowie spike knife, for a basic utility and food prep type of knife i think that would be better, plus i like the sheath on that better than the mora type sheath on this one, plus i think the bowie spike is made of the same steel too
Hey I have a question on a victorinox. I am getting a normal explorer for 40 dollar but I am also getting an explorer plus for 50 dollar. Which should I buy. thanks in advance to anyone who answers
That one was called Mora Bushcraft Series Force. I'm not sure if they still make that one, but they have 4 or 5 models in their Bushcraft series now that are very similar to it.
aw man i like cold steel but geez they must really be running out of ideas i mean ive herd of a competitor or a knock off but come on they could of done a little better i mean i am sure its a excellent knife but just seems like a little to much of a rip off
DragoChronicSmoker42 Every knife is a copy, how many wheels can one make, Mora has had almost zero competition so I say GREAT ABOUT FREAKING TIME! and I hope Cold Steel makes more. I love Mora but they could really use some good healthy competition cause other than the Eldris and Garberg their line has been boring. This Finn Hawk is actually very different than the Mora's, the blade shape and handle is a totally different style of knife esp for those who carve a lot. I think Cold Steel could really make a great line up with these knives.
It's great for butchering, not something to cut the woods. Six of those seven knives are great for that, except the one with the wooden grip which could become very slippy when it's covered with blood.
first they blatantly copied the F1 from Fallkniven and now the companion of Mora, does Cold Steel have any ideas they came up with themselves? Let Cold steel focus on the "tactical" tomahawks and leave the practical knives with real use to real knife companies.
I own a carbon steel Master Hunter that's twenty five years old and it's nothing like my F1. The handle is different, the blade shape is different, the MH is flat ground, the F1 concave. The MH is primarily a slicer/ skinner, the F1 a compact survival knife. Having said all that this CS Finnish style knife does look tacky as a tacky thing. Struggling to think why anyone would choose it over a Mora.
Premiumtap you got that backwards jack. falkniven copied cold steel and the srk came out first. falkniven was a cold steel distributor before they even produced knives. they are the design ripoff, you sir should do more research.
I am loving that army green. I like this type of sheath, mostly because I don't have to take off my belt. I'm ordering this ASAP!
Excellent, let me know how you like it when it arrives.
I just got it earlier this morning in the mailbox. I liked it so much I ordered a second one.
PerceptionVsReality
Great! I'm glad it's working out for you!
I like that one much better than the finn wolf.

I like Cold Steel knives and I have not had any problems at all with the steel or any of the other steels they use. Thanks for your reviews. - Marco
Showing the new Cold Steel Finn Hawk, the fixed blade counterpart to the Finn Wolf. Based on a Finnish Puuko, $20-25.
My thoughts exactly. You can put a 90 degree spine on any of the Mora models yourself fairly easily, but if you can get it already done for the same price why bother. Welcome! I'll keep on looking for good values for you!
My problem with it is the color--"lose me green."
really! Never buy a drop and loose color.
why? the red ones cheaper.
Just put on a short orange paracord lanyard. Color isn't a make or break deal.
I have the Finn Hawk and the Finn Wolf. They both come scary sharp out of the box. Well worth the price for both! I like the Finn wolf a little better because it folds and is a little sharper.

4116 steel is real rust resistance. It sharpens easy but doesn't keep an edge for very long.
nice blade but will never replace the mora
Nice video. Great collection of fixed blades in the same category.
Thanks, bro! There are so many options for the Scandi-minded these days.
Without the name stamped on the blade, I would have sworn this is a Mora.

If Cold Steel can make a superior Mora-type knife for < $20, I'm wondering what the price would be for a Ganzo clone of this knife .... $3.75 ?
carpathiancossack the cost of Swedish jobs going to sweat shops.
I want a mini version of this with a 3" blade that can be carried as a neck knife. I hope Cold Steel makes it one day.
Thanks, nice over view. I am liking this knife more and more.

Yes, you get a lot for the price with this.
I may have to pick one up for myself, not because I need it, just because I like it:)
Like I always say, everyone can use an extra camp knife, and this would also be useful just in a utility drawer around kitchen.
Absolutely!!! That was a Good Video as always, My Friend!!! Take Care!!!
For real Finnish style knives: Marttiini
They are good, I have some.
Very cool knife, I know that this knife has a 4inch blade but how would this knife hold up if you battoned with it?
Not as good as a mora but it beats a mora when skinning a deer. The blade shape make it a outstanding skinning knife. I prefer mora's over the cold steel finn hawk except when it comes to skinning. I have many mora's but I have 3 finn hawks. The handle on the finn hawk really shines when it is covered in blood....really fantastic rubber textured handle on the finn hawk.
4116 is cheap kitchen knives steel. Mora steel is way better
this is way more rust resistant. and mora doesn't even state the name of their mystery carbon steel
It's supposed to be simmilar to 1095 so very decent carbon steel plus it works well so who cares what the steel is called as long as it works well.
+Glenn056 There's no mystery about it whatsoever. It's Sandvik 20C Shock Absorber, which is pretty much identical to 1095, but a cleaner alloy and therefore possibly even better.

This is a stainless steel blade so it should be compared to Mora's Sandvik stainless steel which is excellent.
2:45 what does he mean >_>
I just meant that if the edge is done right, you just have to hone it and touch it up, so it's a lot faster than if you had to re-profile a bad edge.

It's messed up how expensive that new Ontario 5160 machete is
Would rather have a carbon steel blade like my Mora 510 and Companion! Why can't knife companies figure out how to make a "left-handed" sheath!!!
The big question is "How long is the tang"??? e.g. the Finn Bear has a quarter tang!! ...no competition to any Mora. I'd baton with any Mora but not with a quarter tang knife.
That's a good question. I did an image search, looks like no one has dissected one yet. Now I do wonder.
i think i would still rather have the bowie spike knife, for a basic utility and food prep type of knife i think that would be better, plus i like the sheath on that better than the mora type sheath on this one, plus i think the bowie spike is made of the same steel too
Love my Bowie Spike and older Scottish Spike.
so its a mora copy
should I get this or the bushcraft forest? gravitating towards the finn hawk because of the more conventional grind
Get the Finn Hawk, or a different Mora with their regular grind.
Rst blade plastic handle mora is Finland 2,5€
Good review brother! Love me some cold steel! :)
Thanks, bro!
Hey I have a question on a victorinox. I am getting a normal explorer for 40 dollar
but I am also getting an explorer plus for 50 dollar. Which should I buy.
thanks in advance to anyone who answers
Both? Niether?
The Plus, because the pen is often useful.
is it a full tang?
?why to have this knife when you have some excellent options of more knife ? what new in this knife if you compare it to the mora economic line.
That's kind of like saying if one Swedish company made a great hammer, no other company in any other nation should make a competing hammer.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives You held back on saying 'moron?' 🤣
Me wanty! Thank you, WAJK!
Welcome, bro! Thanks for watching!
Is it full tang
any idea if it's full tang or has a shorter one like a mora?
I think it's 3/4th tang like a Mora
I thought so. cheers
Its a Finnbear with a handle upgrade. this is not a bad thing.
I'm waiting for a Finn Shark, Finn Platyplus, Finn Human, and Finn Elephant.
Finn Human would be cool. Finns were some bad ass mo fo's historically. Haake Palle
?Do you know what kind of tang does it have
I think it has a 70-80% tang like a Mora.
whats that mora model dead centre?
That one was called Mora Bushcraft Series Force. I'm not sure if they still make that one, but they have 4 or 5 models in their Bushcraft series now that are very similar to it.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives thanks bud!
yeah but mora's so cheap already
I just got one for $21. I like it better than my Mora.
it costs 50 euro in germany....
Well, the Finn is full tang which is what sells it for me
Guess again
cold steel all the way.
Based on Mora Companion you should say
Cold steel is a good brand, but I would never buy this over a mora, also, would you please consider doing a EDC video ? :)
I might buy this instead of that $80 full tang Mora ...
+WeAllJuggleKnives I can agree with that
Awesome
Thanks for watching!
+WeAllJuggleKnives No problem. I love Scandi knives, keep up the good work!
Looks like a mora knife, i would buy Rather a mora as a cold steel.
I hear ya. But I think everyone already has a Mora or three, so if they buy this it's just in addition to what they already have.
competition is good for the consumer.
This is true and I think a lot of people didn't get the memo on this.
Marttiini Timberjack
Timberjack is awesome
aw man i like cold steel but geez they must really be running out of ideas i mean ive herd of a competitor or a knock off but come on they could of done a little better i mean i am sure its a excellent knife but just seems like a little to much of a rip off
See that, Cold Steel, you have killed a little piece of Drago's soul with this knife.
ikr well i better use my mora and end it all
you had a good run :]
thank you XD
