It's easy to dismiss this as a Mora clone, but I use Moras every day and I can see the difference here. I especially like the changes to the handle and I've had good experiences with Cold Steel's 4116 steel. Definitely want to pick up a few of these for various things
I own one. Had it for around six months. It's a very good knife that doesn't get the love it deserves. I'm a big Mora fan, been using them for decades but this is better than a Companion and from me that is very high praise indeed.
Just received mine in the mail, I have many knives for various tasks and years of using them frequently. This is an instant favorite. Cold Steel means quality. They have a great reputation. Its not a copy of another manufacturer its a knife that deserves its due and stands on its own.
Just bought one at a store in Sweden and it is lovely to use. A own perhaps 30 knives of various bushcraft or universal or survival or hunting sort. This knife feels great bite and feels great in the hand. At prolonged use it is likely to feel good at most woodcraft and general purpose tasks (design is always trade offs). It will be excellent in the woods as companion. It also feels like at least three quarters tang. Great! Really Happy with the spine and the edge! Really Happy about the cryo, which lifts the steel a great deal I imagine. The quality control seems to be excellent. Really nothing bad about the quality. Fit and finish is great! Thank you! I must add I love the blade geometry, shape, thickness, bevel, everything. Also they way the sheath locks the knife is great!
I’ve used the folding version, the Finn Wolf, for the past 3 years for field dressing whitetails...works great, keeps its edge and super easy to re-sharpen!
Lynn you are the best no matter what anyone says. I bought this knife recently and I love it, but my favorite knife I have bought from cold steel so far is the double safe hunter I use it for heavy use and everything In between, unfortunately I messed up the blade pretty bad trying to sharpen it with a automatic sharpener, but still keep up the good work love cold steel!!
Make these with red poly handles and red sheath (perhaps with black over-molded grip). Blue would be nice as well. And offer the FW in Japanese SK-5 carbon steel as an option.
Puukkos have been around for so long that it's hard to even call Moras a copy; It's just a modern take on a puukko, much like this one. Not to mention that both of them tend to be excellent tools regardless lol.
@@wea69420 Mora copied the norwegian telemark factory knives originally i think. Its bit silly to make big thing about "puukko" style knives. They are just generic nordic knives. Many finnish companies sort of copied the modern mora knives because they are cheap to produce. The vintage finnish produced knives tend to have higher edge bevels, and different blade profiles
Hello! I had a problem with the knife Cold Steel Recon Tanto 3V - broken Kraton handle. It happened back in August. I contacted Cold Steel and distributors in Russia - they can not replace the knife and say that it can only be done by the manufacturer. It's been 5 months and I haven't received a refund or replacement or even an answer. Сold Steel sent only a regular letter with the address of the company, ignores e-mail messages and messages, comments on Instagram. Whether someone faced similar. Always heard about their warranty service is only good. Need your help. I sent them the hilt, but I don't know if it came to them or not. Best wishes, Kirill. Don't ignore, please.
Also people saying Mora kniv are junk... have you used one because I doubt it. They work great and for the money can’t ask for more. If you camp and bushcraft it’s just fine. If your making knives to do destruction tests it will break.
Very sharp and cool knife. I put mine in my tacklebox. It really is easy to sharpen to a razors edge. And holds that edge good. I cut up bate or clean big fish with it. Or should i just say fish lol. But it really is worth every cent.
Mr. Leen, please make same rubber grip with Pendleton lite hunter and increase knife blade length to 4.3 inch and the wold receive perfection of budget knife. I swear, it will. :) p.s. if you need some details I will sand prepared drawing. :)
I have to say that I was so very exited about this knife when I first saw it. Then I crashed my head into my keyboard when I saw the sheath. I have three Morakniv kinves that I have had to cut the clip section off, because I am left handed. There is no left handed version of this knife, anywhere. I just have to stuff them into my pants or pocket. The knives themselves are the best and most comfortable blades ever made. Hands down, but the sheath is severely lacking in flexibility for various tasks. PLEASE REDESIGN A BETTER, universal, SHEATH FOR THIS KNIFE! It WILL sell! Be better than Morakniv! Godspeed!
Great work, Lynn! What is the best Mora knife? The Finn Hawk by Cold Steel! I will buy one for myself and one for my wife! Special "like" for the color.
I will be honest,,I like my Mora Companion but FinnHawk is a step above,,however sheath retention is a bit tooooo much for my taste but overall it's Great 👍...
lol mora's are $15 pieces of junk metal ... heaven forbid a reputable knife company steps to the table to meet the demand that is clearly there for this kind of knife
@@TheJerry834 have you ever heard the phrase you get what you pay for? ... oh yeah i forgot, with Mora you have the choice of paying double in order to get them to paint it black for you 🤣🤣🤣
@@jhanks2012 Yeah.. It's not paint. Mora uses DLC coating. Regardless, I thought we were talking about the "15$ pieces of junk metal" which obviously aren't the black versions. Even if we were, they're still not too expensive. It's on you if you made an uneducated purchase, they're not forcing it down your throat. I personally don't want a black knife, and CS has a habit of covering their low end knives in black epoxy paint which needs to be removed by most people who aren't the tacticool type. You may think it's great, I see it as a shortcut. BTW, you reeeeally don't want to compare Mora and CS in the "overpricing the shit out of their products" category.
@@jhanks2012 You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Or what steel Mora uses. They use 12C27 and 14C28N as well as Uddeholm UHB 20C, which is basically 1095 steel. Krupp 4116 used by Cold Steel is inferior to all those steels.

finn bear have same steel
People say it’s a copy. For Those of us that know. It’s an improvement.
Its just a bushcraft blade style why is alot people making a big deal about it
Really hard to improve on a mora companion. Especially when this is made in Taiwan and the Mora is made by Swedes.
A small diamond stone right where he was showing how to sharpen and a fire rod loop on the spine of the sheath would be amazing upgrades.
Strong work on doing the Cryo Lynn. People appreciate it.

Definitely a knife I’ll be buying ASAP. The Scandi grind, and being a cold steel product are the best reasons to buy a knife

Thanks for this knife!
One of the best all-rounder knife I own.
It's great steel. Awesome performance at a nice price

It is...my favorite fixed blade knife. It's perfect for me.
Looks like the Mora robust
for sure designed after a Mora knife

"Mora copy". Yeah sure, you just forget that Mora company just copycatted Finnish Puukko (ancient design).

скатились до моры. Красавчики. )))
Have 1 for almost 3years n it's 1 tough knife, used for bushcraft n hunting n camping, it's like a Timex watch, takes a licking n keeps on ticking.
I do not have a Finn Hawk. I did like the Roach Belly though and this seems similar, so maybe I should pick one up.
If I may ask, what's the tang situation? How far does it go into the handle?
1095 or SK-5 Carbon steel version, please.
The sheath does not have a thumb ramp making withdrawal easier (unlike a Mora sheath).

Cold steel is becoming united cutlery.
The knife is good, but steel 4116 is bad, it was necessary to put steel Aus 8, with it the knife would be much more interesting. And so mora no more.
When I saw “finn hawk” I thought cold steel had came out with a new tomahawk!! Would love to see more axes from them
Do this in 3V I’ll pay $200

Finnish spetsnaz
