    Borax is a laundry additive and cleaner that can be purchased in the cleaning/laundry detergent aisle of your grocery store or maybe at your local hardware store.
    How to make a borax solution:
    Bring a quantity of water to a boil. For every cup of boiling water add 3 heaping tablespoons of borax powder. Stir the borax powder into the water and keep stirring until the powder is dissolved (it may not all dissolve, the water will be cloudy and there still may be a bit of powder in the bottom of your container)
    Transfer the solution into a suitable container large enough to hold the objects you are going to crystalize.
    Tie a piece of fishing line or string to the object you want to crystalize and hang it in the solution making sure it does not touch the sides or bottom.
    Allow to sit in a quiet location. You should see crystals forming after about an hour of cooling. I found that the maximum crystallization happened in the first 4-5 hours.
    Pipe cleaners are perfect for this because they are fuzzy and have lots of places for the crystals to start growing on. The smoother the surface of the object the harder it will be for the crystals to start growing.
    These can be used year after year as long as you store them in a dry place.
    Borax is listed as a skin and eye irritant and is NOT edible.
    Here is an excellent blog about borax information and safety:
    www.crunchybetty.com/getting-t...
    If you are using a coffee filter, place it in the bottom of a shallow dish and pour enough of the solution over the top until it is completely covered. Allow to sit for 3-4 hours. Crystals will have grown over the filter and it will be stuck to the dish. Gently pry up an edge and it should come loose fairly easily. Transfer to a piece of paper towel and allow to dry.

    • @yoyomax12
      @yoyomax12  Місяць тому +1

      I don't think you have to use glass, but glass is easier to clean and it doesn't absorb the chemicals like plastic might (you probably shouldn't use a plastic container for anything else after using it for this purpose).
