Tesla Model 3 SR+ Dyno Test - As Fast As A Long Range?

- We recently purchased a Tesla Model 3 SR+ as a development car and wow, it's pretty quick!
Let's throw it on the dyno and see just how comparable it is to our Long Range RWD Model 3, and speculate about where the differences come from.
Enjoy, and take a moment to watch the Long Range Model 3 dyno video here if you haven't already seen it.

So the SR+ could potentially do faster 0-100 but it's software limited?
Very cool. Would also love to see a retest of the LR after the software power boost.
435whp measured at dyno
So basically 272HP peak
And 307lb-ft
Can you post the graph of hp & torque at 90% SoC ?
I have the same car SR+ so this is obviously very interesting
Which makes it 407Nm for europeans
AFRs look a little lean on the top end. May want to throw some fuel at it.
Matt Caudell hilarious
😂
SR stands for “standard range”, not “short range”. The range on the SR is far from short.
Still too short compared to a gas car..
@@RubberDucky999 What is enough? I can't sit more than two hours.
@@RubberDucky999 depends on the gas car... My Type R would get 210-230 miles per tank and my Model 3 SR+ does about the same...
The SR+ is 243kg lighter than the LR AWD. It is the one I ordered as it is still plenty quick and it is very rare that i will need to Supercharge it and will be the most efficient at most driving except motorway/freeway driving over 120kph.
I ran a 13.5@104 mph in my SR+ a few weeks back at 88% SOC. I think there might be another 1/10th or two in it at a 95% SOC. That's not far off the LR 1/4 mile times.
Thank you for showing real data!
I wonder if increased voltage sag of the smaller capacity battery could account for some of the difference after the max tq limitation is no longer in play?
Yes @Sasha Anis If I had to guess they hit the limit of the battery with the SR+ but they keep it at the limit of the battery for a while where with the LR they are at the limit of the motor or controller and the battery as well. So its likely they have a different curve from that.
Really bad at reading it on my phone, what is the best HP/torque for the sr+?
Nice dyno test!! Can you dyno test q2/21 sr+ LFP 55kwh. It has perf rear motor to compensate the weight. Nice to drive when pack is warm.
Sascha, could you post an update on your electric Evora?
Awesome, thanks for doing this research! Will you guys be offering some performance goodies for the SR+ as well? Like being able to disable the traction and stability control?
Why aren’t they responding? 😑
@@tysonwarms8594 They actually offer their Party Box for the SR+ now, so that's pretty sweet.
@@prerunnerwannabe thanks man, I’ll check it out… still no more power for the 990 motor though ?
@@tysonwarms8594 I'm not sure, but I don't believe so?
how did you dyno the car without traction control complaining..im at a dyno day and would like to dyno but having problems
What's likely happening with the SR+ is that the controller is maxing out the smaller battery's power capability, hence the almost flat power curve.
The very slight drop in power in the flat area is likely the motor becoming slightly less efficient at higher speeds, even though the battery power is constant.
Nope, electric motor torque curves just look like that at 0 RPM. Look it up. This is a normal torque curve for a motor that is not bottlenecking.
@@devinjones9614 nope. The bottleneck is the battery, not the motor.
This dyno test reminds me of need for speed underground 2 dyno test 😂
Long range rear wheel drive has a better acceleration then the standard plus but the standard plus has the top end . Also for you guys wondering what version of the long range they are talking about no it’s not the long range awd is the long range rear wheel drive
Thanks for clarifying that I thought they were talking about the long-range AWD
Is this american horsepower og metric horsepower?
Numbers don't do justice to the experience. We have an expectation of what these numbers feel like when you need to let the engine rev out, but with EVs it's totally different.
Standard Range Plus!
So what exactly is "field weakening" ? I know current drops off and there is "voltage sag" which I assume is what's being described where the knee occurs but if there's a good explanation for what exactly is going on, that'd be great.
Very interesting. Less weight and very similar power above a certain speed might make for a good platform to tune brakes, suspension, tires etc...
I own an SR+ on the MMP sports coilover setup. This thing is a monster in the corners. The lower weight and rear weight bias is really, really good when slinging into corners.
I am replacing the pads and fluid in the next week and going to put on some Federal RS-Rs 255/35/18s tires (square setup).
Just need the MPP "Party Box" to remove the traction control and its track time. I wouldn't be shocked if this car put down faster lap times than my old modified Evo 8.
Can we have clear numbers like SR+ peak hp and peak torque = and LR peak hp and peak torque = someone dish through this data and give me an answer please.
It’s not Short Range Plus, it’s Standard Range Plus. Smh
Can you do a AWD versus P car?
I second this. I have yet to see anyone dyno either model after the 5% performance boost. It'd be interesting if the AWD is now closer to 385hp as might be expected.
I didn't dyno them but I raced them. Check the video out on my channel....it was post 5% update. VERY interesting results. I have MPP coilovers so I don't feel bad for suggesting one of my videos on theirs lol :) The MPP coilovers REALLY make it a different car!
I'd LOVE to see this as well, please!!
Alex Kozubenko If you search there is one video out there of the LR AWD vs the P. It’s almost exactly 100hp 100 ft/lb more at the tires that the P has over the AWD. However as speed increases the P advantage goes away entirely. The P only has an advantage around 55-60mph and below. After that it’s dead even.
@@damiengvideos4337 My god yes! I have the MMP coilovers on my SR+. It really handles like a proper sports car now. I've been finding an excuse to go canyon driving every weekend now. Best mod for a Model 3.
You guys are only comparing uncorrected numbers, right?
Nobody should be adding a CF to an EV....
did elon get a facelift? he looks a decade younger
