That is amazing how fast that happened after purchase. I thought you’d have to wait for an ota, then your typical 25 minute install. Your results are basically exactly they promised. I’m sold. I really wanted a perf stealth which they no longer offer. Like you, I wanted that amazing acceleration. But I don’t want to give up 40 miles of range, ride comfort, and quietness. Oh and I’m in the north so you kind of need to buy an alternate set of tires (summer/winter) and go through that hassle every six months. So my compromise is the AWD with accel boost. Thanks for your demo and perspective.
Well as long as you get one referral you get 10,000 credits and you can buy it for $9,500 credits which comes out to about $5-600 worth of value instead of the whole 2000. I did this for my model Y and it is absolutely the best purchase I've ever done to a vehicle for the money even if it was $2,000
If I weren't going to buy the Model 3 Performance straight off the bat, I'd definitely go this route. I think that's pretty sweet that they offer that 48 hour grace period with it too. You're spot-on when you say that mid-range acceleration is what's most important, as well. That really is where the fun is! I used to have a fully modded Subaru STI, and there was nothing more fun than that mid-range speed. It wasn't very often I launched it, because generally, that's how components break, lol. Also, the way I feel (and probably a lot of others who've had fast cars before) is that to gain a half-second for only $2k is actually pretty good from a "modding" standpoint. That's pretty much right in line, and maybe even a better price nowadays than if you were purchasing a tuner and parts for your internal combustion/forced-induction car. It really is a pretty worthwhile purchase, overall and it definitely makes the Long Range a bit more appealing to gearheads like me.
That initial punch from 0 is not that much, but from 25-60 you can definitely feel it. from 60-90+ with AB you are pretty much neck and neck with M3P. M3P only has the initial punch faster...
*just the video i was looking for. thank you for making this. i didnt even know you have 2 days to try the boost. definitely will test it out when i have extra 2k lying around!*
I can see the difference in acceleration by the blond hair movement 😃! I have heard the biggest noticeable gain is in the first 30ft off the line, however, your take on overall enjoyment really adds to the description. The 48hr trial is no-brainer for everyone. A valuable video for all, kudos!
Going with the satisfaction of increased acceleration at higher speeds, I would like to see what the times to go up 10mph from various speeds woud be: 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 and so on up to 90-100. In passing from 60mph, the boost seems to make quite a difference.
@@slippyg Other family members that drive the car might be intimidated with all of that power. Being able to select the other modes would be more comfortable for them.

@@theblackneural9117 Yeah, feels like an oversight, to be honest. Not everybody other than me driving the car might want the boost, so the only remaining option is chill, which is a huge jump down acceleration wise compared to sport.
for the cost, If I had a Tesla it would be pretty much worth it. just like tuning an ICE for $600-$1000, simply modifications to make the car more fun and more responsive !
Good review. I also purchased the Acceleration Boost for my 2021 M3LR and am enjoying it. Like you, I did before and after 0-60 testing which did confirm the numbers as advertised. I too remember the rush of test driving the Performance version, but In Canada that upgrade, with sales tax, costs $11,300. I figured that the Acceleration Boost was a "relatively inexpensive" compromise. I have watched a comparison video by "Drag Times" channel that showed there really wasn't much difference between the two. I plan on owning the car for a few years, so I might as well enjoy it. A warning though, like any other "drug" (need for speed), you do find yourself getting used to it and wanting more :-). Need I say Plaid?
Thank you! Agreed, I figured it’s as close as you can get to performance M3 without the price point of a performance M3. I hear you on that! Just waiting to win the lotto and I’ll go ahead and order the Plaid, that car is out of this world!
I dunno 11300 for better breaking, handling , faster, carbon lip , coloured breaks, sports peddles, way nicer wheels is actually really good value. If you did all these upgrades later on to the LR it would me way more than that.
@@Mike-wc3jo Hi Mike, yes I know what you are saying. If I were buying again I would still be tempted by the Performance model, but let's look at the differences one by one. Bigger brakes, yes they sure look nice in red, but I rarely touch the brakes in day to day street driving and the stock brakes are adequate for spirited street driving. From what I read, the Tesla Performance brakes are inadequate for serious track driving in such a heavy car and need to be upgraded anyway. I have road raced cars and taught high performance driving for over 30 years so I know about this stuff. The stiffer springs and lowered suspension are again only of value if tracking the car. The lowered car would also be bad for winter driving here in Canada in the deep snow. Faster acceleration is always fun, as I said, but I am now within 1/2 second 0-60 of the Performance model. I believe I could buy a replica rear spoiler for about $100 in the aftermarket. The pedal covers are extremely cheap too. The Performance wheels are really nice but result in a rougher ride, higher risk of rim damage and lower range. One thing nice about the performance model, for playing on the track, is the software that allows you to take more control over what the car is doing. Like I said, it is still tempting :-)
Philip T good rebuttal. I agree with your points minus the lowered car. I am also in Canada and have Subaru wrx on coilovers ( can’t even fit my finger in between the wheel and fender ) and still generally don’t have a problem in snow so I think that ride height of the performance would be pretty good.
@@Mike-wc3jo Yeah, I wasn't actually thinking about the tire to fender clearance, but the ground clearance verses big chunks of ice and snow. Those battery packs are super expensive, should you ever damage one. One poor guy in the states ran over a bolder in a rock slide and it cost over $16,000USD to replace the pack. I like the WRX a lot. I rallied one in the Targa Newfoundland a few years back. Great car. Sounds awesome with a sport exhaust.
on Dec 28 we bought a new T3 dual motor. Nor Cal. They were selling Fast. No inventory by the 28th. I would say just by the performance model you will go even faster. At 73 I can live with 60 in 4 sec. My 59 vette with over 525hp/7800rpm was slow off the line:: 0-40 in 3 sec. And 40-70 in less than 1.5 sec But I would play catch up with Tesla up to around 120 when I would Finally pass it. A small block chevy at 7800 sounds great. But then, Silence is Golden.
I bought this car last year , just did my taxes and got a massive tax return thanks to the Canadian government rewarding self employed individuals who buy an EV. Basically they allow you to roll 7 years of depreciation into one year , up to a 55k write off. I’m going to use part of this refund to buy the acceleration boost. Can’t wait 😍
It would be cool to know what cars people are coming from where they consider the model 3 with acceleration boost "underwhelming" or whatever. You realize a mid-high 11 second car is SERIOUSLY fast, right? You're beating many older exotics in the 1/4 mile and lots of modern fast cars like RS6's, Aston Martins, and bad drivers in Murcielagos.
Yes fair point! I came from a Prius so it’s definitely a world of difference. I had driven around a performance model 3 for a couple weeks and initially comparing the AB to that
No prob! Exactly, the comparisons were same state of charge, same day, and actually only 30 mins or so apart pre AB and post AB. Only difference was to push of a button to buy AB
Got it, loved it! Unfortunately though, in Canada it’s $2700 which comes to $2997 with tax.. so I tried it for 2 days, and loved it but returned it and will probably buy it after winter. But it completely changed how the car drives
@@brettk95 that’s the way to do it! One thing I noticed is that there was no tax on mine (I thought there would be) wonder if it’s just specific to California for that, I’ve seen other states have to pay it, and interesting to hear you did too…
Truth is $2000 in a gas car will rarely get your car to drop 0-60 from 4.2 to 3.7 seconds. Its a decent deal for an EV IMO. Good have way point between the LR and Performance model
For people whom never had to work on their cars, 2k seems like "SooooOoo much", .5 second reduction in 0-60 is worth it...there are exhaust systems for Hellcats and Mustangs that cost over 2500 and don't reduce 0-60 my .5 seconds, maybe .1 seconds lol.
@@theblackneural9117 Long Range. Wanted the Performance and wife said, "No." So then I learned about the acceleration boost and that's how I got to your video :D
Good video! We have a Model Y Performance ordered with expected delivery in August. Main reason for the performance was because my wife likes the looks better and willing to live with the stiffer ride. I wasn’t going to argue for the increased acceleration. BTW - Appears you are in OC and on Santiago Canyon Rd, I’m in Orange.
Congrats, you guys are going to love it! I'm sure august can't come soon enough, love the wheels on that trim. Don't blame you for not arguing! Crazy to think that thing is 0-60 in 3.5! unreal. haha you nailed it! I'm in Tustin. Love going back in the hills a bit in Santiago Canyon when we can!
Kinda surprised that the 60’ times are not sub 2 seconds with the standard long range without the boost. I have a RWD car that can run mid to low 4s in the 0-60 and if I am lucky can get 1.9s. Definitely seems the power hits more from 20-30+. The 60’ is only marginally quicker
Damn I thought you would get. Chill standard and sport. That’s a bit ridiculous. What if I don’t wanna go the speed of light. Just the speed of sound ?
I bought the acceleration boost and while although it is faster and I do love the experience, for me it actually did not meet the advertised acceleration claims. It was at least 0.3 seconds off every time. This was quite disappointing, I even had Tesla service team look into it. However according to them the engine was outputting sufficient power. There's no slippage and I've even changed the tires but I've never been able to achieve the claimed speeds. Still to me the difference of speed was sufficient to justify the cost. I do sometimes I wish I had just bought the performance model instead. Still love the car
@@thang1742 I did get new tyres, got MPS4S, while it did improved handling and in rain, the acceleration still remained the same. I plan to change to performance later next year anyway, I take it to the track and definitely need bigger brakes
What would it cost to modify a BMW 3 series to get a half-second faster 0-60? An air intake and a cat-back exhaust plus a tune would easily add up to $2K.
Ya, from my limited understanding there’s really not any way to get that much of an improvement for that price with any other cars. I’ve seen some other comments mentioning 4-5k minimum
What kind of stock BMW can go 0-60 in 4.2 sec? M3? If you try to tune up M3 half second, it will cost you a lot more than 2k I believe. even 335i only can run 0-60 like 5 sec. Also even with additional 2k, the price for Tesla M3LR (56k as of now) is a bargain to me. 0-60, 3.7 sec is phenamenally fast. As a compare, BMW M3 competition with xdrive can run 0-60, 3.4sec but it will cost you 80k at least with mere 15 mpg lol. Lets just not take about ICE cars anymore, they are DEAD.
$2,000 is stupid cheap to gain a .5 second 0-60. For example, a stock STI, I’ve done it in 4.7 seconds. With $14,000 put into my car, the fastest I’ve done is 3.5-3.6 seconds. So that is a steal. With most ICE vehicles, by the time you buy a few bolt ons and a tune, you are over the 2,000 mark and you have picked up maybe 30-50whp unless you run different fuels etc…
Great real world example of how hard this actually is to achieve. I had a gut feeling with other cars this would be the case, but no real examples to confirm. Crazy!
@@ms3ben Void the warranty on an ICE car yes, as I had a completely built car. However, the Boost with Tesla does not void warranty as it’s purchased through Tesla.
If you’re worried about 2k in a mid level luxury vehicle…. Probably in the wrong vehicle, that being said, it would have only cost another 5k at time of purchase to get the Performance, so I’m not sure why people buy the LR….
@@theblackneural9117 to be fair I believe the extra ranges comes from the slightly smaller tires and the tweaked power curve, I think you can get that down to ~20 mile difference with 18’ and Chill mode. Understandable the 6k is over 10% more, so that’s a justifiable argument. The 20’ inch wheels are not a nice ride.

Interesting comments because carwow drag raced the LR M3P and the LR had faster acceleration top end than the M3P. Interesting the accel boost is faster again. I think keep the upgrade.
I saw that video too which was the deciding factor to buy the LR, it makes more sense. More range and faster on the rolling. You just add acceleration boost and you're beating the M3P easy
Great vid. I’m looking at buying a 3 or Y long range or performance and salesman told me about that 2k$ power boost. Now I’m thinking of buying the LR and getting the boost and still be less expensive than a performance.
Really great to see the test. What app did you use to give your voice readout of the miles per hour. In Uk it will cost 1500, the problem in the uk with so many speed cameras that extra speed might get you a ticket. Great to see your wife was taking part, the slow motion of hair taking off. Magic
That would be dangerous with all the speed cameras no doubt! Definitely east to find yourself going faster than expected. Haha ya I figured the slo mo would be fun to capture. The app (and tool) I used for the 0-60 time is dragy
I’m leaning towards a LR rather than a performance because I want the 3.1 0-60 however I want the 19” sport wheels. I like the look of the 20’s on the M3P but i don’t wanna deal with the replacement costs with all the potholes where i live and i’m not a fan of the staggered setup. I also like the bit of extra range with the LR but I don’t want to be left unsatisfied that I didn’t get the Performance. Maybe this upgrade will be a bit of a help with it although i’m skeptical as well since it’s a relatively minor difference😂.
Yes definitely a tough call, I struggled with the same thinking and ended up choosing the added range (and some savings) with the LR. Definitely like the look of the M3P wheels though…
@@itzjdub282 Thankfully California doesn’t know what winter is 😂. But yeah thankyou. After test drives of the performance and Rwd i decided to go with the lfp rwd model 3. It’s still fast enough for me and it’s the cheapest. Enough range for me as well too.

Great video! :) Was looking for this kind of info, still hovering over the buy button, will probably wait a few months since its still not spring over here in sweden. :)
I appreciate that you returned it to think more about it over a period longer than just 48hrs. Tesla fanboys act like children. The way I see this is it's very deceptive psychological manipulation. The crowd who willingly parts with $2,000 for such an upgrade (compared to my opinion that if it's really "capable" of that extra performance, it should be a free upgrade) will not pester them when components die prematurely. The $2,000 is a test of consumer behaviour. Because there is no way 2 cars one with the paid update and one without, will age the same. That defies physics, and is impossible. So, the psychology of someone who pays $2,000 for it is very different from a "I got something for nothing" type of ape. Tesla is lying to both but the former won't cause trouble. If they do, the $2,000 is a good insurance policy. 🤣 You can be sure they put the actuaries to work on that. In business you don't shy from high ticket offers alongside budget ones, because there's no need to deny those able to comfortably afford the high ticket offer that privilege. The actuarial team probably figured out those who abuse it are going to be a minority. One's prematurely worn tires are going to see the immediate effect, so maybe that will dampen the eagerness to overaccelerate within months. I don't know, but Tesla does. Tesla has EVERY possible DATA it could dream of on usage patterns. So it figured out an extra revenue stream 🤣
I wonder why they don’t offer a subscription for this? What would you pay per month? If they followed the same pricing ratio as full self driving (10k full purchase vs 200 per mo), accel boost should cost $40 per month. Would that be worth it to you?
Can’t go wrong either way, the performance is definitely the most fun! My biggest deciding factor was wanting the longest range possible (and the cost savings)
Thanks for the review. I tend to view the question of the cost of the upgrade in terms of the price difference between LR and performance (in the UK this is £10K) and I appreciate that includes wheels, brakes, suspension etc. So in my mind the cost seems very reasonable. But like the poster below take a look at the Carwow drag comparison.
Did you get it after all? I purchased it and got a refund within 20 minutes. I too expected a little more kick but I'm reconsidering it again.....I continue to watch videos on A.B. Thanks

Agreed, the 48 hour trial is a smart move on Tesla’s side. Thanks for the support!
What a brilliant review! Extremely informative, clear, concise and coherent! Keep up the good work dude! 👍
Your wife is a sweetheart.
The video is very informative.
Going with the satisfaction of increased acceleration at higher speeds, I would like to see what the times to go up 10mph from various speeds woud be: 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 and so on up to 90-100. In passing from 60mph, the boost seems to make quite a difference.
Hey there, twin.
I wish after upgrade the acceleration modes were CHILL/STANDARD/SPORT
Totally agreed. Odd that’s not the case right?
I disagree. Because I feel I would drive around in Standard rendering the 2k pointless.
@@slippyg Other family members that drive the car might be intimidated with all of that power. Being able to select the other modes would be more comfortable for them.
@@slippyg But you have the option. If you do that, or know you'll do that, why buy it in the first place, right? That's pretty much what's being said in the Video. Buy it, test it, refund it and then sleep on it if you really want it. If you do, you wouldn't mind the Option (you don't have to take) of there being Chill, Standard and Sport. I personally wish they gave us the option.
A 1.94 60’ is actually slower than I expected.
All black Model 3 looks super cool
I agree!!
Watching this again. I’m so close to doing this
If you have money, and you like a faster car. Buy it! Its a big difference! If u first use it and then go back to standard u will regret it
Exactly what happened to me!!
That’s awesome, nice little incentive with the tax return there!!
Best video I've seen on the matter. Nice job.
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed!
There is only one answer to that question. YES
Agreed!!!
Thank you giving important tips which no one mentioned. 48hrs 😜. I will try that as well now 48hrs. 😎
I had driven around a performance model 3 for a couple weeks and initially comparing the AB to that
I had no idea it was refundable. That is huge and makes me want to go purchase it right now. Thanks for the vid.
Sure thing! Thanks for the kind words!!
Have more fun with your favorite car by upgrading your accessories.
Dope video bro, patiently awaiting my m3L
Thanks! Congrats, you’re going to love it!
Thanks for the vid, appreciate how you did this on stock tyres/wheels, so it literally is down to the Acceleration Boost and nothing else.
No prob! Exactly, the comparisons were same state of charge, same day, and actually only 30 mins or so apart pre AB and post AB. Only difference was to push of a button to buy AB
Great News! We recently produced a new product for Tesla Accessories. If you are free you can check our fantastic deals on our ebay listing
Awesome video! Now I’m going to be buying the acceleration boost for my model 3
Awesome! You can always return so it’s a no brainer to try out! Let me know what you think!
Completely agreed!
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve had my 2021 Model 3 now for just a little over seven weeks.:)
Of course! Congrats! How are you liking it so far? Did you get the LR as well??
Nice video. Great quality and really appreciate the details. By the way, your wife is a keeper!

Good to know I just bought a model 3 today
Your wife was the driver… boost is not needed, less weight! Nice car… still waiting for mine!
What did you end up ordering?

Awesome. My wife wants the Y now, you’ll have to let me know how you like it. Congrats!
I bought it before I left the lot during pickup! Great video.
Hahaha awesome!!! Thank you!!
Mullman, you sound like a good guy ! Well done !
Tesla said you can take the Hubcaps off and it will look more sporty.
Yup, I thought about it but decided to leave as is, I believe the hubcaps give just a little more range
Dude, just ordered a model y using your link. Enjoy the miles and I will too.
Much appreciated, thank you! And congrats! You’ll have to let me know once you get it how you like it? Which trim did you get??
@@theblackneural9117 Long Range. Wanted the Performance and wife said, "No." So then I learned about the acceleration boost and that's how I got to your video :D
@@scottford89 hahaha love it. I think you made a great choice! Way to compromise
Half a second on a Gen3 or other ICE engine in another vehicle already doing 4.4s would cost a lot more than $2k I would think🤔
I did end up getting it after all! Haha
Bummer!! I wonder what it is causing that? I’m still getting the consistent 3.7 0-60
get better tires and an alignment
@@thang1742 I did get new tyres, got MPS4S, while it did improved handling and in rain, the acceleration still remained the same. I plan to change to performance later next year anyway, I take it to the track and definitely need bigger brakes

Oh dang you are! How cool is that! Thanks for the love!
This is like the Download more RAM for PC but for real
What would it cost to modify a BMW 3 series to get a half-second faster 0-60? An air intake and a cat-back exhaust plus a tune would easily add up to $2K.
Ya, from my limited understanding there’s really not any way to get that much of an improvement for that price with any other cars. I’ve seen some other comments mentioning 4-5k minimum
A tune on most modern bmw's is less than 800 bucks and gets you half a second easy. Around 50-100 whp.
@@macddslmao, a ton of bimmers can do 0-60 that fast
Crazy!
And bye bye warranty
@@ms3ben Void the warranty on an ICE car yes, as I had a completely built car. However, the Boost with Tesla does not void warranty as it’s purchased through Tesla.
@@MeatloafMelvin Yes I know, was talking about the modded "ICE" cars regarding warranty
If you’re worried about 2k in a mid level luxury vehicle…. Probably in the wrong vehicle, that being said, it would have only cost another 5k at time of purchase to get the Performance, so I’m not sure why people buy the LR….
For me It was the extra 38 miles of range LR gets over performance in addition to being 6k cheaper with AB
I SO wanted the M3P! so much so as I put a deposit on one even after a Tesla branch mgr warned me he had gotten 7 flats driving in the NE on his M3P ! I just switched to the LR now w/ plans to save a lil 🤑 to spend on all the cool accessories I’ve been seeing on YT. I rented one for a week prior to getting mind and it was an absolute blast!!!
Good to know!
Worth it!
I had it since day one now two years later . ..I want it even more ...maybe boost 2 for another 1000$...lol
Right! I like your thinking!
Great vid. I’m looking at buying a 3 or Y long range or performance and salesman told me about that 2k$ power boost. Now I’m thinking of buying the LR and getting the boost and still be less expensive than a performance.

@@theblackneural9117 I ordered a LR3 but wife cancelled and got something else.
Really great to see the test. What app did you use to give your voice readout of the miles per hour. In Uk it will cost 1500, the problem in the uk with so many speed cameras that extra speed might get you a ticket. Great to see your wife was taking part, the slow motion of hair taking off. Magic

Great video brother! I think I will probably try it out for my model Y and see how much I like it during the 48 hour period.

Thanks!!! No harm in taking it for a spin!
Great way.of thinking. If you live in a place that has winter, the performance tires don't work well.
@@itzjdub282 Thankfully California doesn’t know what winter is 😂. But yeah thankyou. After test drives of the performance and Rwd i decided to go with the lfp rwd model 3. It’s still fast enough for me and it’s the cheapest. Enough range for me as well too.

To get a Dodge Challenger or Hellcat to drop 1/2 second would cost you $10,000 in parts and labor.
That’s wild!!!
Keep in mind guys.. 2k is not all that expensive if you really think about it. You are talking a faster 0-60 than an hellcat! That's crazy!
Completely agreed!

@@theblackneural9117 question, can you purchase your car after the lease is done?
@@blakeogeris2494 good question, I’d assume so, I ended up purchasing mine
I wonder why they don’t offer a subscription for this? What would you pay per month? If they followed the same pricing ratio as full self driving (10k full purchase vs 200 per mo), accel boost should cost $40 per month. Would that be worth it to you?
@@blakeogeris2494 it's decided at the time of lease. I dont have an option to purchase.

Can’t go wrong either way, the performance is definitely the most fun! My biggest deciding factor was wanting the longest range possible (and the cost savings)
I think you made a mistake on your description. It says "This is a $2,00 Software upgrade."

Same motors same battery - theres nothing stopping tesla making it the same as the Performance model. I wish they would because i don't want lowered and bandaid tyres
