Recently - well, 2 months ago now - I revisited this video because I was getting a neck and shoulder pain from computer work. Wow! I forgot how wonderful this little sequence is! Every morning before work I do it now. I haven't had neck pain or headaches at all since I started back up. Thank you for this video. I need to open up my shoulders. I just started today, but will keep it for 3 weeks, as you recommend. I have a question, though. I am a bit overweight, so the seated posture you take is somewhat painful, I ended up seating cross-legged, with knees down. Is that ok? Or should I sit with you throughout the whole sequence? Thank you again!- Michelle.

Thank you so much! I am a 68 year old male thats been lifting weights and working manual labor jobs sine I was a teen. Years of the weight bearing and gravity has caused me shoulder problems mostly impingement in both. Also been suffering from bursitis and tendonitis. I have been hanging from a pullup bar to open them up and create more room. I still was feeling a forward pull of tightness and pain in the front of my left shoulder. I did just 2 of these stretches that you illustrated and within 5 minutes tightness and pain was relieved. I woke up today with some soreness from the stretching but that is diminishing. The overhead movements with the band is what helped me. I will now work on the other ones you illustrated.

I love this video! I know that this was posted almost 10 years ago and I discovered it a few years ago. I'm a kayak guide, so shoulder stretching is very important for me. I still do this video a few times each week, along with Esther's more recent one to stretch shoulders (this one from 2010 has a few more stretches that I really like), and find these stretches so beneficial. Also, Esther is one of my favorite yoga instructors. Her voice is so lovely and instruction so simple and easy-to-follow. What she does is always genuine and from the heart. She has helped so many people towards being the best versions of themselves. I can't thank the Ekhart Yoga community enough!

I just found this video a couple of weeks ago and I've managed to do it about every other day. I'm extremely tight and sore. I dream of being able to touch my hands together behind my back. I think it will take me a year of stretching to get there. I've noticed small improvements already and a slight decrease in pain and stiffness. I'm going to continue because it feels good to be looser. I want to add that this is in no way easy or painless. Even the smallest movement is terribly painful but the pain is worth it to me because I feel a little better. I'm excited to see how far I get in a month.
I've done the video off and on for 4 months now and I'm about half way to getting into the last pose. Before just putting my arms behind my back hurt a LOT. Now it hurts a lot to put it halfway there. :)
It's 2020 and I still return to this video for a great stretch. I'm about halfway there now but before I could barely put my hand behind my back and I was in extreme pain. About half the pain and about half where I need to be. I'll continue to use this as part of my self care. 👍
