Hey thanks Z yeah I have rebuild a few of those on a skidder but I have never seen or tried that pretzel bend on that inner seal that was pretty cool I will remember that trick 👍
You make it look so easy
Ah, a clean cylinder. I love when the inner bushing on the rod guide is rusted underneath and it takes an act of god to make the rod move. Have to go in with a grinding stone or small flap disk on a die grinder and get it all clean. I use the piston ring compressors that snap on to their own special pliers to seat the guide, or hose clamps which was the way I was taught. My favorite are the guides with wires and the tang is broke on them.
Well learnt something there! I have stripped down and resealed many rams on the farm but have never seen one of those with an internal locking ring. I wouldn’t have had a clue how to get that apart. I does seam unnecessarily complicated and impossible to get apart in 20 years when it’s all rust and no paint. Thanks for the video
They are a bitch to get apart when they get old and rusty ,the reason is it's faster and cheaper to groove the tube than cut a thread in it (I've been in hydraulics for 35 years)

You can also soak your seal kit parts in warm water to help with installation

I'd recommend a brass drift and hammer for the gland removal/installation it's easy to ding the ram shaft with steel tools.

Use a hose clamp to compress the big snap ring (C clip) for easy install. Also, a brass punch to drive the guide back into the housing for removal and install to prevent damage.
I’ve done that before and the clamp got into my outer o ring when it went in.
And I didn’t damage anything. You act like this is my first rodeo..

You used an orange fill piece to let the snap ring come out on disassemblely, does it stay for reassembly? If not, is there a chance of damage to the piston seals on assembly? Great video.
No you always remove that or the snap ring will not seat.
Getting the hidden snap ring back in by yourself can be a right bugger some times. I haven't watched anyone just shove on that piston seal either. The usual practice is to warm it up around here.

That orange seal you installed to fill the gap to release the inside unit to pull out and rebuild… does that come in the seal kit from John Deere of is that a special seal for disassemble?

My 780 feeder housing keeps leaking down overnight. Could that be my problem? Great channel.
It’s probably your header lowering valve leaking.
How did you or, how do you bleed the air that was trapped i the cylinder? Or, does the system take care of that when you raise and lower the unit?
It bleeds itself when i cycle the feeder house up and down
I just did this on a Ford POS.

Just unhook both lines that go to cylinder to drain fluid??
Unhooking that top line oil just keeps flowing. Does it stop eventually?? I see the hose in video just unhooked laying there with no oil flowing out of it.
And ORFS connections should have the O-Rings replaced EVERY time they are removed

Badly designed cylinder ,in fact a very old desine that was mainly done away with mostly years ago.
