The depth of knowledge you have on many different machines is impressive!
Thank you 🙏
Is feeder house chain on backwards or just the camera reversing the image?
I learned quite a lot. Thank you for your time and ability to explain. Nice video.
I'm glad you got something out of it! I appreciate it!
Start this Monday as an apprentice at one of the TriGreen dealerships in Alabama. Your videos are very informative and much appreciated to this new rookie!! I will continue to watch all the content!! Blessings!!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing Zeth. Keep up the great content
Come on guys this guy needs a done more subscriber's, his content is excellent and his knowledge is priceless.
Wish all techs at john deere would be like you.
Ah thanks man!
This inspection reminded me of the minor and major inspection we did on aircraft based on days or flight hours. Good job.
Excellent walk through of the inspection on the S-Series Zeth. Got to say things have changed a lot. Last time I worked on a combine was 1979 and old Clayton 135 (Pre New Holland Days) with a massive 10' header lol.
I'd like to watch each of your videos especially this one multiple times.
Definitely a very helpful video. Glad I found your videos. We are getting an s680 and we are inspecting it our selves so any learning material I can find is helping me. Thank you
Another great video. I'll never need to inspect anything agricultural, but that doesn't stop me being curious.
Take note the upper cleaning fan sheaves as the outer slides in and out the 3 drive lugs usually batter the holes out of the inner sheave , then what happens is the speed will slow down ok but not increase due to the steps created in the inner sheave.
I am also seeing a lot of upper rear tail boards that bolt to the chaffer frame that hold the loss sensors starting to crack and fall off.
Great work keep the vids coming.
Very thorough how to, thanks for sharing
Thanks man!
True master of his craft
This is second time im watching this... Thanks for the information that you show since Im a non farmer!!
Thanks so much Col for putting that together
It’s really super cool
Happy New Year
Thank you very much for these valuable information
That was great tutorial I learned a lot thank you for doing what you do
Excellent. Just updating. Steve. Otago, New Zealand wheat farmer. Thankyou Zeth.
Amazing , you’re amazing! Best wish for you, farmer from Canada
Thanks 🙏
I like this guy; great info!!!
Thanks for watching!
Well done
💯🏋️EXCELLENT🏋️💯
Beautiful JOB 👈👏👏👏👏
I just recently started about 5 months ago as an apprentice Ag tech at a John Deere dealer. We have a combine doctor at the dealership. He knows them inside and out. They give us 16hrs to do a full inspection. He pulls the sieves and Chaffer to check the frame and he pulls concaves as well. Very awesome video though!
We only get 9 hrs to inspect the combine including drive time so there's not enough time to pull all that. I can use my bore scope or crawl up in the chaffer to check the common areas where they crack.
@@ZKMasterTech ahhh makes sense now. Hey what was that 70mm custom socket you made used for?
For the nut on the reverser to take the lower sheaves off.
Very good video Zeth! Woodpecker lips 😂😂 First time I head that! Very informative video 👍 Keep the videos coming, super interesting!
Love your style and how thorough you are. Can you do an inspection on a 735 f hyderaflex draper.
Nice video! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I’ve got a 2011 9670 to look over. This is a great value to me! Farmer from NE Nebraska
You are very welcome sir! Thanks for watching!
This is just great, you doing videos like this. Guys at your shop can tell you what to look for but their method isn’t always right. Skip over shit or assume things. The whole point of inspections is to find and fix things before they do more damage. If your not looking and miss something, you just cost the customer more money fixing it out in the field when it was just in the shop. Appreciate you making this video.
Thank you!
Great video, very educational and interesting. i am amazed at how complex a combine is,it seems like there many machines in one.You are a very good mechanic, very good observational skills i learned a lot about farm machinery watching your videos.
Never seen the shoe auger bull head crack like that definitely something to look out for. Things I’ve seen are the primary countershaft gear case bushings worn. Main engine gear case mounting brackets cracked out. And on class 8 and 9 machines the front engine bracket cracked.
I've seen a few front bulkheads cracked. It's an ugly job. Another thing known for cracking is the engine accessory bracket. They're gusseted but the crack anyway and the updated version doesnt have a gusset.
Yes people say
Fond memories of grandpa working the grease gun all over the combine...too many grease points. LOL
You forgot to check the center differential bobbing pin.
Wow, I Didn't know that a Combine 🚜 Has that many of moving Parts
i think the farmer iss better of if he buys a brand new one. Great video like always very informative
очень поучительное видео продолжай в том же духе
Great video! I sure hope you are on the upper end of the pay scale. And I sure enjoyed the wood pecker lips comment
So beautiful video very very nice beautiful
I hate to point it out, but right at the start of the video where ZK says the combine has no problems, it's dripping fluid from under the front ! Ha! Ha!
! Love the videos, ZK Good work . Glen In England
That’s just water from the ac drain…
@@ZKMasterTech Thanks ZK, just pulling your leg. Love your videos.
Stay safe and look forward to your next download.
Thanks for your videos Zeth, they are great. Do you check the top pivot for the auger swing?
Yeah but your going to notice something wrong if the top pivot is bad when you swing the auger.
Seems like you have to do loads of inspections..I know how important they are but man are they monotonous.. helps to have a good program step by step like you have come up with… I don’t work for JD but another big manufacturer and I see many things in your videos I really like what they do those extra shear pins very nice touch seems like a lot of thought goes into every detail .. accept like all companies they never keep the tech in mind when they put these things together always gotta move 10 things to get to the one you need I see you have this issue often as well
Pull them concaves out and really look at the z bar, rh side rail, front transition cone.
Your videos have all been awesome. I have a 2015 S670 with the 5 speed feeder house, there appears to be a leak on the big gearbox right behind the cab, and I can not seem to find where it is coming from. Is there something common that could be leaking?
It’s usually the input or output shaft seal. There are also hoses that can leak as well.
Zeth, are cracks in the shoe auger bulk heads pretty common in all STS combines? I have a new to me 9670 bullet rotor and I haven't dug into it yet. Again, thanks for the great videos. Anybody with farm equipment and especially green power should be watching. Edit: I laughed at the woodpecker lips comment too. LOL
Yeah bulkhead cracks are common from 60 series to newer s-series.
@@ZKMasterTech Thanks
The root cause is the run out on the driveshaft causes the bearing mounting plate to flex back and forth until it cracks along the weld.
It's mind-boggling how many belts and chains the engineers fit into a single combine! And somehow it all works together, haha. What would be a typical annual investment for maintenance and parts to keep a combine in good condition? Of course as a rough average, since things naturally wear more in later years than in the first few.
I would say $3k-$10k if you had it inspected every year.
@@ZKMasterTech That's not bad at all, especially considering what gets fed through them and how much value it helps preserve in the machine! Thank you :)
I am curious about what major repairs the estimate included and the total cost for those repairs. Also which repairs and services the owner decided to have done and which he declined to have done. Many thanks for a great video!
I can’t talk about cost and it’s been too long ago since I did the repairs. I don’t remember what all I did. When you work on 100’s of different combines, they all kinda run together. Thanks for watching!

More to a combine than just check fluid levels
How hard is it to grease variable speed fan and where is the grease zerk located??
Great video! How many separator hours has that combine run? Thanks
I think it's got over 2000.
videolarınız çok güzel ve ayrıntılı. sizi bu yuzden takip ediyorum. Sadece jhon deere videolerı çekiyorsunuz. başka makina videolarıda çekebilirsiniz case newholland claass massey ferguson vb.
The springs on the sieve and clean grain sieve what are the springs supposed to be compressed and tightened down to?
75 ft. Lbs
I just bought a new clean grain elevator. Is there supposed to be one intentional large gap between paddles? S550
Yes there's always one.
I pay $500 for a combine inspection and they spend less than a hour doing it. Would you please come to Montana and do my next inspection for me, and maybe show these amateurs how it’s done.
@ZK MasterTech I’m wondering if you’ve ever had a problem with the contour master binding when tilting the header side to side. I’ve checked the pressures ,changed the seals in the ram, I’ve had the head of off the feeder house I can’t find anything. Just curious if you’ve ever come across this problem
Ive had to add two suitcase weights on the left side or I can’t get it over center
Where did you get your roll boxes in your truck that slid open and close
It came in the truck from readings they are ctech manufacturing.
Have had alot of upper variable sheave on feederhouse have the lugs worn out inside. Have also found when taking upper apart that the speed adjust piston is leaking internal and filling upper cavity with oil.
Yeah that's pretty common.
aussie here ,just had a thought . have you ever thought about being a roving mechanic where you go to different places in the world for periods of time where you play a role of "mentor mechanic"/ambassador to bring the rest of the JD mechanics up to speed . we'd love to have you visit aus for a while . i'm sure with your teaching ability you'd really inspire younger mechanics .you'd be JD's secret weapon .whatever deere paid you to do it i believe they'd come out in front just in winning good will.
no doubt you'd also pick up a few clues from us as well to broaden your knowledge base . make sure you bring your broad brimmed hat because it can get bloody hot out here ,at harvest time .we'd get you a decent hat like "the bush tucker man" .ua-cam.com/video/JAyqeaeHYSw/v-deo.html
i'm sure some big & little aussie farmers with JD's would love to meet you and swap a few ideas and yarns .
How many separator hours on the S670 you filmed Zeth?
Around 1700
Would it be worth trading it off with all this wearing? I know they cost a fortune.

HEY ZK you want to come to Nebraska and be our John Deere tech ,
I don’t know what’s in it for me?
Harder than wood pecker lips 😂
You need to check your blood pressure, ill bet that is why your hands are so shakey.
I was recovering from two back surgeries and spinal meningitis in that video and I could barely crawl around the machine. Shaky hands was the least of my worries.
My hands are steady as a rock now. BP is fine BTW.
