I am a new subscriber to the channel and have viewed a few of your videos. I really like your work ethic, attention to detail and client focus. You are truly a craftsman, professional and role model to your trade...thank you for the opportunity to watch you at work!
Thanks ZK for another great video. Was most interesting and enjoyable. Combine maintenance now days is so demanding in terms of looking at the high wear items. Your combine work today was great attention to detail work and client focused items. Learned a lot. The tractor transmission-wow. Seeing one pulled was great. Hat off to the young man that got it ready to pull. Lots of do’s and don’t there. That thing is huge and heavy. ZK appreciate your focus on repair or go remann. Never seen one apart. You attention to detail on the gear and shaft damage made most interesting decision point. Fully understand you going with a remann transmission instead of repairing with a big bill in the end. Huge piece to work on. About it for now. Your patience with these repairs is great. My compliments to you. Step at a time and easy does it always wins the repair. Enjoy your channel very much. You take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
Really enjoyed the video. Your knowledge of and skill to work on these complicated monster machines is fantastic. Would love to have a small percentage of your ability. Looking forward to your next video.
I watched Warren over at "Western Truck and Tractor Repair" rebuild one of these 3500 pound beasts about a year ago. Every bearing is pressed on making it very labor intensive. He did a great job and taught us everything about the 18-Speed Funk Powershift Transmission. Thanks for another great video Zeth!!! Take care, God bless!
Those magnetic trays are so nice. I have half a dozen different sizes stuck on the side of my toolbox. Hell, you can mount them upside down and all your bolts will still stay put. And for a few dollars each, money well spent. I don't wrench on farm equipment but basically mechanics are mechanics the world over. Your techniques and processes are world class. You young up and coming motorheads can learn a lot from a guy like this. I been doing it 40 years and I do!
Just subscribed i like the way you explain the process of repairing things. It really helps when I have a repair to make. Your attention to detail is great.
I certainly don’t wish bad luck on anyone, but I really enjoy the field service calls and the field rescues. Hope to see some this spring, you make them super interesting!
From the UK. Replacing tin work, fuel tanks, castings etc probably makes economic sense in labour terms, but component repair if possible - welding at the least, seems much less wasteful. Cracks can be stopped with welding expertise, though wear cannot be. Tractors seem to be integrated with so much “nice to have” crap that maintaining them has become a hugely expensive nightmare. Bet half of it could be dispensed with.
Never heard of a high speed planter, Absolutely amazing , this isn’t your granddads farm , bit of advice, start getting all the old mechanical stuff you can , this new stuff won’t last, no one can work on it and it’s too expensive, that being said , you are an excellent technician
This combines maintenance list reminds me of the maintenance on the helicopter I fly…they’re both maintenance hogs..so many moving parts leads to so many life limited parts..great video.
OMG I have so much respect for you guys. You ever get tired of having to pull 100 things off just to get to the one part that failed? That would make me run off into the sunset kicking & screaming. My luck would be I'd forget how to put it back together after waiting for parts. Hat off to ya!
Zeth great content as always. Enjoy you sharing your knowledge. Looks like things went pretty well. Keep the action coming, definitely look you up at the next one. Stay safe!!
Greetings to you and everyone, a very wonderful and amazing job. Can you send files for the maintenance of this type of tractors, maintenance files, spare parts and manual service
Another great teaching video! I for one really appreciate your thorough approach to your repairs. For instance, on the clean grain elevator, not everyone would've taken the time to remove that half link. I've seen technicians who would've been quite ok with letting that adjustment slide because it was "within spec" even though it could've been better. Great job! Your approach is very similar to how I do things. Very refreshing!
I admire, look up to you, am in awe of you and Love your videos. All of that to say… STOP THAT ANOINTING MUSIC. That is just me, others may love it. Either way it won’t stop me from watching and learning from you.
Somebody was actually thinking when they put that slot in the side of the machine for the auger flighting to come through. That looked like a bird nest sitting on that transmission when you pulled it out. How many hours on that tractor? What kind of warranty does a re manufactured trans carry?
As always it was educational but also intriguing to see how John Deere builds their equipment and what you as a technician must know. I can see why you are a master technician. How expensive is a remanned transmission in that tractor without labor costs?
Those valve posts for the feeder house are 2 parts (you can just pull the lower half off beneath the threads) and have internal seals that with age turn to brittle plastics which crumble and crack so the valve leaks. I have had some experience with those same valves and Hydra Force magnets on the hydraulic leveling system on older Ecolog 560D forestry harvesters.. Also, how often do rodent passengers come along with the machines in to have work done?
Hay Zeth buddy! I never tire of watching you get the green stuff fixed up. I loved the Ray Charles gag, it's one I use myself too. Ouch on the tranny eh? that's gonna hurt someone's pocket big style. Why would teeth fail like that? Dave.
How do you determine lock collar installation direction? I noticed on the CG auger the boot end was opposite of shaft rotation, and on the sensor end it was with rotation. Thanks.
Rule of thumb is opposite of shaft rotation but i don’t think it really matters that much on a low rpm shaft. I’ve done it both ways and I’ve never had a lock collar come off. I’ve put on thousands. As long as you have a good lock onto the cam of the bearing and the set screw is tight, it won’t come off unless the inner race of the bearing breaks.
Hi ZK master tech, we had similar noise coming from transmission on my 9560R but oil is very clean and no metal at all. What could it be? Maybe scavenger pump? Cheers for the good videos you posting 👌
The metal is fatigued. A weld increases stress. Know when to repair, know when to replace. 9/10 times a guy never finds the true end of the crack because they don't utilize proper inspection techniques.
Great awesome video zeth , was great videos with millennial farmer , I learned lots about the planter , how was vacation? Hope it was great , lots of fun back to work , very sick 9530 that needs a dentist 🦷, that s680 is a never ending money pit , a lot of things wrong with it
Excellent video as ever Zeth, I'm starting to wonder if everything on that S680 was knackered? (This is a British technical term meaning worn out, broken etc.)
Haven't seen if you have any previous videos of that 9530, but was there a reason why all the gears got damaged in that transmission? Or is it a design defect?
Hello! Just a curious question. What is the difference between a remanufactured and a rebuilt transmission? I understand that you have to replace all the damaged stuff in the transmission you are working on but what have been done to the reman transmission? Is that a part from a tractor that had some other issues? Thanks for a great show! It is always fun to look at professionals greetings from sweden!
Why does my 7R 350 in Farming Simulator 22 pull left? Also, how can I juice up my XUV865M to go faster than 31 MPH? PS if that divider on the auger frequently breaks off, why replace it with another divider? Why not just break that bottom of the divider off and mail it back to JD engineers, along with an evaluation of their job performance? Feedback is key, how will they get better not knowing of their failures? Now the customer has to pay for a new boot that, per your assessment, has a divider that will probably fail....again. Looks like a manufacturing warranty item. nothing the operator or owner could have done to prevent the designed to fail part.
Zeth, Love the videos!! Isnt this the same machine with the blow up hydro? Will you be able to give us the overall cost of this complete job when you are done?
Master Tech, maybe I missed this, but if I haven't can you write on the video why you4 fixing this machine. For instance, is it a trade in your working on, a customer's, this does several things. It's a selling tool for the Company you work for. People are more apt to buy a machine if they know it's been fixed. If it's not a trade in it helps me understand wear and tear on the equipment, and knowing when it goes back to the customer, it'll be ready for harvest!
Well if you go back to the first video i made on this combine, I rescued it from the customers field and brought it back to the shop and it’s all customer repairs. Combine is going back to the customer.
The transmission had a bad day! Did one tooth somewhere come off by chance and the rest of the damage was caused by it and then other parts feeding through the other gears?
Hi Sir ZK can you help me please on my JD 9620R as it always comeout the ECM 001.101.02 "Crankcase pressure sensor fault" warning and its already replace the crankcase airfilter and sensor. What is other possible causes.thank you and more power
Wow that's very interesting Zeth. We just got done with rebuilding a tranny on a 360 timber jack and we're starting on a tranny on a 540G fun Fun right
Why wouldn't you just weld a new plate in the boot rather then just bolting a new part ont there? Seems a bit like John Deere expensive part change policy rather then fixing something.
Do you work for Deere on paycheck or do you work for your own. Somebody with your experience should work for his own as mechanic. But what i have understood is that it is not allowed to work on a Deere if you want to maintain your garantee. Some farmers had brought it to the court they wanted the right to fix their own tractors
Ray Charles Welded that with his feet. I nearly choked on my coffee. Mick, Northern Ireland 🤣🤣🤣👍🍻

Another excellent video. You should give Kroil penetrating oil a try. Best stuff around. I am an aircraft mechanic and that is the king in my shop. :)
Viewed 3-26-22 from down state Illinois Trans is toast, cost to rebuild out of site vs installing a reman which is same as like new.

Fun fact about cracks if you drill the end out it stops the crack from continuing its done often on small aircrafts
