- Humidity in Chicago was terrible for the summer. I ended up going to rattle cans and still lost a few weeks because it was so hot. This is a quick vid on what I think was one of the most critical pieces to make sure this looks right.

Yes! I’ve been looking forward to the next video in the 53 LP series. This looks great
It's fun to watch this old bird get a second (or third, or fourth) life. Thanks for bringing us along.

Excellent work.
Speaking of top notch, who else thinks Gibson nailed that graphic art work on their name logo?
You really made the name 'pop' black & gold. Yes.

Scraping that logo was very stressful, and I wasn't even doing it! Good job!
Very nice - i did something similar two years agon using crayons "wax". It worked like a charm.

Bad ass vid!
Cool
Nice job Derek looks original cool trick what colour finish are you doing the body?Cheers
What shade of black is that. I’m trying to paint a small section at the top of the headstock. It looks like a satin black
I am dying to see the finished guitar.
Frisket. Learn something everyday.
yea this was a huge learning for me
The way that guitar was originally constructed, was that the holly headstock veneer was dyed black..not painted. Then it was hit with a nitro clearcoat. You wouldn't need to mask it .
I'm speaking of 50's era les pauls..not the modern ones with the formica veneer.
Hi, not sure why you didn't use the frisket that way and not just have the Gibson logo as the frisket so it covers the logo, it would have made removing the black paint easier by just pulling the vinyl from the logo?
Good stuff Derek. You're working a little too hard with your lacquer. Nitro chemically bonds from coat to coat forming a single layer. Unless you have some sags, massive orange peel, or debris theres no real reason at all to sand between coats. Save your paper for final flat sanding. Outstanding work yet again!
Noice!
YES, 53 LES PAUL VIDEO!! :) One thing I can't figure out is how do you get the logo level with the rest of the headstock, does it just eventually fill with clear?
yes add a bunch of clear and level sand. then buff and done
Big D have you ever built a hollow body? I'd love to see one built from start to finish. A gretsch style with bigsdy. I know I miss spelled that
Go to Jason Beam on you tube he built a 335 Eric Clapton hollow body,Cheers!
I think My eyes gonna give up when clean detail for that logo😵
yea this hurt!!!! I am getting old
@@bigdguitars old but gold👍
I dunno man. Did that actually make things any easier?
Sure is gorgeous though, amazing work man.
That's a lot of wasted frisket material...be easier to cut off the bulk of the unwanted sheet first... be even better if the seller makes the frisket with the logo still intact. Then just peel off and leave the logo frisked, the way it's meant to be used.
So the frisket didnt work
worked great.
First? Thought I'd never do this.
hahaha. I am getting more popular!
@@bigdguitars You should be I love this project.
