Hi Wes, I've been watching all of your videos the past few days. I think this was the prettiest view when opening your tent in the morning! That white noise would be a dream for me too! Thanks for the great content 🙏
In my opinion this is the most underrated channel out there. One of your first subscribers, I can guarantee you will have many more. Keep up the good work Wes.
I’m also one of his first subscribers. What he does on the Bay is extraordinary, yet he explains things in very innocent and simple terms. Now he’s moving out of his normal element. Fun to watch. So young, so honest about everything. Love Wes’s videos. He’s just great.
I love your channel! I'm new to it, so I'm watching all your older videos. You will probably never see this, but your channel is one of the best camping/adventure channels on the Tube. Love It!
just a tip - local rain is only one possible source of flooding in a river - dams can be opened, and a surge of water can travel for days along river networks before it hits your wee island. Rule of thumb: never camp in an area within a flood line (those sticks and grass up that tree above your head was not put there by The Storks mate! #drowningisreal
Your spot you picked reminded me of when we canoed and camped on a seemingly safe, twenty foot high embankment, on the Rivanna River in Charlottesville ,VA .many years ago. As luck would have it, one of my fellow campers woke up about 2 AM to find the river lapping at the edges of out tents. Many miles up stream it had rained during the night and the river rose every bit of the twenty feet. We would have been zipped up in our tents swept downstream very likely had it not been for the 2AM pee break.I'll never forget, come morning, the huge oak trees floating down stream, ripped out by their roots.
Excellent wee adventure, reminded me of the time I was headed towards an island on a river, only to watch it get washed away before my eyes as I approached it. From then on, I'll never camp on an island like it again. No way. The way it folded on itself, tons of rocks and earth sandwiching, tells me you'd not survive it from within a tent and sleeping bag.
So cool that you’re traveling around Wes. Learning as you go. That’s what all of us do on our journey in life. Just try stuff, see if it works. Then try again learning the whole way. There’s no such thing as wasted time. Every moment in life has value. Your Redrock adventures and catching your first Striper (a very nice one), and cooking it on the beach was the best for me man. As you know, that was my island back in the early 80’s. But there’s only so much to do there and it’s cool to watch you venturing out. I believe you got hooked on fishing with that first Striper on Redrock. Now you’re seeing you just got lucky and how involved fishing is. It could be weeks of every day not catching the fish you’re after and what we did is blame it on the time of day, the month, water temperature, lure color, presentation, technique, and every other excuse. There’s a learned skill that catches fish every time but that takes years man and isn’t all that reliable. Pros don’t catch fish on low barometric mornings, but still the water looks really fishy. So you try, because you’re there. It’s about the whole experience. Just being there. Catching a fish is secondary to the beauty around you at any given moment. It’s therapeutic. It’s indescribable. You edit the narrative but nobody knows exactly what you thought about your adventure and it’s really nobody’s business. It’s yours no matter what. Keep doing what you are doing my friend from Redrock. You’re living real man. So cool to see.
So good to hear from you again, Sean! I really agree, every moment is an opportunity to grow and learn. I still have a lot I want to tackle at Red Rock when I'm back, but could not pass up this opportunity for an extended road trip! Definitely learning that catching fish can be very sporadic... I was practicing at a nearby lake recently and caught a smallmouth bass and bluegill. Then the next 3 times at the lake, nothing! Just motivates me to hone in my technique. Definitely relaxing and blissful to be out there giving it a shot and being mindful with the water. Thanks so much for watching again, your words really hit home and I'm happy you can find some enjoyment watching the adventures.
@@WesWherever , Thanks man. Glad you’re traveling around doing different things. I spent my youth and middle age bouncing around between Hawaii, California, and Canada. Camping and fishing. And yep, spent hours and days in what looked like a perfect spot, only to catch absolutely nothing. You’re never sure what’s wrong so you try everything, to no avail. On my last adventure with my dad, we took a trip into the mountains on Vancouver Island to a lake 50 miles from nowhere, only accessible by float plane. Spent a week there. Salmon were jumping in the river and trout jumping everywhere in the lake in front of the cabin. Looked like a no-brainer. Casting from shore with mepps spinners, rooster tails, kastmasters, nothing bit. Unbelievable and insulting that fish were everywhere but nothing would bite any color lure I threw. I tried something I’ve never tried before, or even heard of, and that was to stick a couple salmon eggs on the hook of the lure. Bam! Got bit immediately and landed a nice trout. Okay, that makes sense, it’s a scent trail behind the lure and the salmon are spawning. Perfect timing for salmon eggs on a lure. After catching enough trout for dinner I decided to try casting the same lure without salmon eggs. Just to see. Nope. No takers on the lure without the eggs. I caught a couple chum salmon that way in the river as well. Live and learn and be creative about it. Great last adventure with my dad. Keep doing what you’re doing bro. Have fun, be safe. 🤙🏼
You want to be careful using water filters like the one you have in built up/urban areas as you can find contaminates like oils & chemicals in the water and filters like the one you have only filter out biological contaminates and not man made. The only "portable" water filter I know off that works in both urban & bush environments is the Grayl.
Thanks so much for that advice... I have to say I had no idea about that factor! I will definitely have to look into the Grayl if I plan to filter in an urban environment again
Mate I was gonna hate on you till I looked it up. Grayl states you can use it anywhere on earth. I thought "oh ya? What about heavy metals?". Then bang, I saw it filters heavy metals. My apologies mate 👍
@@TylerKuntz-ww1wn Wrong.......water filters are rated to remove specific things just as CBRN/gas mask filters are rated for specific things. This is due to the components they are made from. I have first hand experience using different types of filtering devices such as the standard dust mask to P2/N95 rated filters and I have a close family member who is a former (30+ years) Combat Engineer in the Australian Army. This job, regardless of country, included water purification as well as working CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear) environments as well as decontamination who I have learnt many things from including the capabilities of filter types.
Yay, your back! And you are almost at 3K subs!! Whoo hoo! 😀 I really enjoyed todays video! It looks like you had perfect weather and a lot of fun 😊 I can't wait until you catch a giant fish, filet it and enjoy it next to your next campfire. Soo looking forward to your next videos!! Stay safe!🙏♥️
Hey Suzanne, glad you enjoyed this one!! Very thankful that the last adventure was so well received and brought some strong growth 😊 I am still committed to make more catch and cooks happen, fresh fish is too good to pass up 😋😋 Thanks again for your support, and I will make sure to be safe! 👍
Awesome content!!! This brings back some memories from kayaking that I used to do in small rivers like this one with my less fancy Sea Eagle 330 in France and Switzerland: rivers such as La Loire, Ain and La Sarine all have a similar vibe like this river. This video makes me want to do it again!
@@WesWherever The trip on La Loire was my favorite one. La Loire is wide and shallow and slowly meanders through a beautiful countryside with pastures and small forests. I also camped on a small island in the river but quite a bit bigger than yours. So relaxing! I started from Roanne and kayaked about 40 miles to Digoin. I would love to explore more of La Loire. In France, they have quite a good railway network so logistics with an inflatable kayak is not so complicated.
You would probably have better luck fishing the calm spots just at the edge of the rapids with a small spinner bait. Might catch a nice rock bass or two.
Somehow I always seem to lose them to snags and they're pretty expensive! They cast so far and smooth though, so fun to fish. I will have to pick another up next time I go fishing
Glad you enjoyed!! Only river in CA I have kayaked so far was the Napa River from Yountville to American Canyon... was really memorable! Definitely wanna paddle more local rivers when I get back to the west coast 🛶 Thanks for watching!
Yes, the phone with the number on the back - it was actually from a homeless resource center and I was able to get in contact with them to return the phone 👍
I am from the area, and I had to laugh about you finding the cell phones. The creek that meets the Lackawanna River at that spot, Roaring Brook, runs through a park in Scranton (Nay Aug). Once my daughter was sitting by the water in the park, and when she stood up, her phone fell out of her pocket and into the fast-moving creek, never to be seen again. Maybe that also happened to other people!
Brooklyn!! What’s good! I was just in Brooklyn over the weekend, stayed around Williamsburg/Greenpoint and recorded a video there. Look out for it in a week and a half 👀 Appreciate you watching, Mauricio, got love for all y’all in NY keeping it real 💯
Trout magnet works great for smallmouth bass. I don’t know if you were working it right. Work it like a jig, let it do the work, don’t reel it in, small movements. If the trout are stocked powerbait is the best.
@@WesWherever trout magnet will catch anything. I’ve caught 3 lb smallmouth and largemouth on it. Even once a 4.5 on pike followed by a 5 lb pike in the same spot on them. Use lightest line you dare, I prefer fluro. It’s a finesse lure. Go somewhere with clear shallow water and watch how it moves. Work it along the bottom bouncing with different rhythms like a crayfish, or slow reel and small movements to mimic a baitfish. Somewhere you can see and practice is helpful. 👍 tight lines.
Fish hooks are not really a problem for inflatables in the way that people think they would be. You need to apply a lot of pressure, even on serious failed hook sets they bounce off lol. MOSTLY. Fun overnighter! PS when you anchor in a river you want to do it from the bow or stern. Never from the side. You may know this already not sure. Not an expert myself but it does pose a possible danger. Use a trolley to run it up front or back.
That's reassuring, I know the Sea Eagle is pretty tough, but was not trying to take any chances with hooking it 😂 It was such a stretch to try and anchor from the stern or bow, but glad you mentioned the trolley! I had no idea those existed, definitely gotta look into that. Thanks for the helpful comment, and thanks for watching bro! Keep up the good work yourself 🎬💪
I am new to the channel, but I recently watched the video where you were on the kayak for 24hrs, and had left over pizza for food... Then you have pizza again this time around. 12/10, I feel like we would be good friends 🤣🤣 What a beautiful spot to sleep for the night!
I saw you are camping your way across the US and on the ohio subreddit someone said they have kayaked down the scioto river from columbus to portsmouth ohio. Might be something to check out for a couple of days.
@F7yingdutchman Thanks so much, really glad that one was received so well and is contributing to some growth of the channel. Would love to do these adventures full time for everyone... have to dream big! 🏕️📺
I have been more or less on my back for a week now recovering from surgery and on Friday UA-cam offered up one of your posts. I really liked it and I suscribed, and have been gobbling up all your work. Then last night I took a serious painkiller and went to sleep. Then I had this dream that you were sitting in your kayak in my living room - resting your enormously long gingery whiite feet on my sofa. I woke up with a start, went for a pee and dumped those pills down the toilet. Then in the morning I knelt down with an effort to feel if the living room rug was damp!
Glad you got to appreciate this as a local!! I am from CA, but born in Philly 🔔 Have some more adventures planned for PA though, hope to have one out next week! 🏕️
It's kind of a random question, but how do you like the seat for your kayak? I just bought a sea eagle kayak and am curious if their stock seat provides good back support
It's a pretty good seat I would say. It's a high back though, so it certain PFD's that are designed for low back seats (like mine) will press on it, and add a bit of discomfort. Butt will probably be hurting after a couple hours, but I've found that to happen with most kayak seats I've tried. What's nice with the Sea Eagle is that you can throw in a camp chair for a higher, comfier seating position if you don't plan on doing a lot of aggressive paddling/distance. I used my Nemo Moonlite chair in it when I stayed on the kayak for 24 hours, and it was super comfy!
It was like a very loud white noise... it did help me get to sleep but was almost on the verge of being too loud. Some people would probably have found it to be too much 🔊
Fishing will be one element to my videos, but never the main focus. I love exploring new & unique places and interacting with each spot in different ways (not to mention the journey to get to said places). Glad you appreciate the vibe of the channel 😉
Your videos bring me so much peace and comfort Wes! I’m so glad I subscribed to your channel! Keep on adventuring 😊

Right!! It's like a little oasis 🏝️
Wow.. When I watched your previous video you had 500 subs. Seems like that one blew up.. Well deserved and congrats on the 2k+ subs!!
I found out about him on reddit, lucky to see a wholesome dude doing what he loves
@F7yingdutchman Thanks so much, really glad that one was received so well and is contributing to some growth of the channel. Would love to do these adventures full time for everyone... have to dream big! 🏕️📺
@BlueyBlueCollar Cool, had no idea the channel was shared on Reddit! May I ask what subreddit/thread?
@@WesWherever Im sorry I can’t remember to be honest mate. I’ll have a look later on tonight.
Hiyaaaa! Love it man 👍🏽
I have been more or less on my back for a week now recovering from surgery and on Friday UA-cam offered up one of your posts.
Good video.
Use cordage to tie down your equipment 😄
Are you from PA? I live in WilkesBarre, not far from where you were.
Glad you got to appreciate this as a local!! I am from CA, but born in Philly 🔔 Have some more adventures planned for PA though, hope to have one out next week! 🏕️
I grew up in the Susquehanna Valley about an hour and a half from Wilkes Barre. Right alongside the Susquehanna river!
@@WesWherever Thank you! Exactly the info I needed. Adding a camp chair is a fantastic idea. 👌
This is going to be cool (edit: it was)
Thanks for watching and being the first to comment!! 😉
I think that stone opening was a culvert running underneath the railroad .
Interesting... thanks for the insight! Would be cool to go back and check it out
So many phones! 😂
What was the thing you dropped in water at about 4 min. 17 sec. mark?
The pump for my kayak 😢
I wish i could buy followers for u !!!🤣 You're video ate top notch.. your channel is gonna explode some day give it work and time.
It's warranty!!😉
Thanks so much Marc, just you coming and enjoying the vids helps a ton! Glad you like the adventures 🏕️
Was the water noisy when you were trying to sleep?
It was like a very loud white noise... it did help me get to sleep but was almost on the verge of being too loud. Some people would probably have found it to be too much 🔊
I love little river islands, did you pick up some of the trash?
I did bring back some, including the phones as electronics can definitely leach into the environment!
Lol. If you cared about that island you wouldn't have camped on it's fragile vegetation that keeps it there.
@@freeheel748 Him spending the night there on a patch of bare ground won’t cause it to erode away.
What happened to the phone? Did you find the owner?
I am working on getting in contact with the owner. 🤞 I will make sure to provide an update though!
Well done
if you ever catch that fish it will be good
I promise I will someday! Thanks again for watching, Share 😊
I have never seen a human being put pizza face down on a pan like that. I’m incapable of expressing my astonishment.
Hahaha it really works to heat it evenly 🙃
Are tadpoles edible? Garlic and lemon?
was the water cold?
It was cool, but not super cold... felt refreshing!!
Your poor pump. Did you ever find it?
I did not 😭 Gonna have to pick another one up from West Marine in NJ, ah well
I guess this can be my new adventure channel since Mav and Destination Adventure have basically turned into fishing channels...
Fishing will be one element to my videos, but never the main focus. I love exploring new & unique places and interacting with each spot in different ways (not to mention the journey to get to said places). Glad you appreciate the vibe of the channel 😉
Wait, you can’t end the video and not tell us if you found out who the phone belongs to, or how it got there! Were you able to get in touch with them?
Were was that at? The island
Where the Roaring Brook meets the Lackawanna
I'm here.
Thanks again for watching Dani, glad you're here!!
I just subscribed
you seem like a really cool guy. i wanna be friends with you in real life
Well, did you get the phone back to whoever?
I can’t believe you’re drinking and wanting to eat fish from that water.
That Japanese knotweed is horrific!
Yeah unfortunately it really does take over everything :\
What happened with the phones?
👍
Did I see Andy Bernard floating by in a sumo outfit?
I must have missed him 😂😂
